i will make this short as possible. i own a macbook that i bought in 06' that i used heavily during college. it was the first ones with an intel processor and last summer the hard drive crashed. well i finally got around to fixing it and i searched amazon for a decently priced hard drive and came across this one. received it and popped it in and it works great now. for people looking to fix an old mac laying around and you want to do a fresh install of mac os x then hopefully you read this. since i got a new hard drive and already have another mac that is my main computer hence why i did a new install of the os. to do this you will need a screw driver size 000 and a torx wrench size t8.1. take the battery out.2. unscrew the three screws that hold the L shaped metal retainer. behind that retainer is where you can pop the ram out and on the left side of that is where you can pull the hard drive out.3. pull the white tab and the hard drive comes comes out.4. unscrew the metal casing that houses the hard drive with the torx wrench and put it on the new hard drive.5. put the new hard drive in.6. boot up your macbook and either a) put in the mac os x install cd or b) hold the option key if booting the os from a external hard drive/flash drive.7. the install will start and you have to go up top to Disk Utility.8. disk utility will find your new drive and will be listed on the panel to the left.9. select the hard drive and you have to ERASE it. doing so will format the drive.10. go back to the install setup screen and it will ask you to to select the drive that you want to put the os on.11. it'll display your drive. select it and you're done.

A very nice hard drive if you are looking to expand your space on your laptop or replace a corrupt hard disk. I currently have a Thinkpad T 400 and used a cloning software to copy and paste all the drives and application files. No issues. Worked like a charm... Though its been hardly a month since I started using it.. Haven't noticed any temperature or noise issue so far.. Fingers crossed !

I purchased this item so I could create my own 320GB Xbox 360 HDD using HDDHACKR. This worked perfectly, and I saved myself a lot of money! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who's trying to upgrade their Xbox 360 Console without wanting to buy an official HDD from Microsoft.

The hard drive on my MacBook Pro 13-in died. I purchased the Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue 5400RPM, got two-day delivery. It arrived on time, in a secure, easy to open package. Within 15 minutes (I'm guessing) I had the drive installed. My MacBook is now running again, quieter than ever (can't even feel it vibrating at all) and, I believe, a bit quicker than the original hard drive. I recommend this drive!

This drive doesn't make huge demands on my battery, and it's lots quieter than the original drive. I've only had it for a few months, but it seems quite stable, and I love the bigger capacity. It was a breeze to install. I put it in a five-year-old MacBook, and later, I transplanted it into a three-year-old MacBook. This drive works very well with both computers. The drive arrived safe and sound within the time stated, and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. I am very satisfied with this product.

This hard drive is exactly as described and fairly easy to install, just open up the laptop, remove the old drive and install the new one. I do not anticipate having any problems with this one. I replaced a different brand of hard drive with the Western Digital brand.

After purchasing Vantec NexStar TX 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosureto recover data from a crashed laptop drive, I purchased this OEM boxed drive for a bigger external backup. It is now the same size as my replaced internal (also a Scorpio blue). It seems to work ok as a drive in my computer. The external enclosure may be having problems with large data transfer as when I tried to transfer over a large number of file backups it did not complete. I have not tried again. Remember 500 GB really equals about 465 GB of actual storage due to the way manufacturers rate storage and how a computer calculates it. Setup through an external enclosure required me to go into drive management on Windows 7, partition the drive and allow windows to assign a drive letter, then format the drive. As a bulk/OEM HDD you won't have any instructions on how to do this, so depending on your system your actual procedure may vary.UPDATE:A few months after I purchased this HDD, it failed. The return process to WD was very easy and turn around was quick. Good support!

The hard drive in my Toshiba laptop failed and I was told by Toshiba that only its drives would work and that, due to short supply, they would be over $200. After checking at several local computer stores, I found that any SATA 2.5" drive would work fine.I ordered the WD 320GB and it was a piece of cake to install. 6 screws to remove and reinstall, the drive slid into place perfectly.I restored my system and it has been performing perfectly, and silently, ever since.I endorse this product without the slightest hesitation.

I bought one of these hard drives to replace my failed hard drive in my old MacBook last May, just over 6 months ago. I was optimistic that it would last longer than any from Apple had lasted, and so had my friend install it for me since he had repaired Macs in the past and knew what he was doing. After just a couple of months it started to make a horrendous scraping noise, indicating that something inside was not as it should have been, and then just kept layering noises on until it failed just a few days ago. This was a bigger let-down than any previous hard drives from Apple. All of this was after much lighter use than any other hard drive had undergone.I'm never buying Western Digital again.

I purchased this HD because my 2003 1.66 GHz Mac mini HD took a poop. I looked up this hard drive and found mixed reviews. i decided to take a chance and order it. I received it promptly, and had it installed soon after. It works great, glad to have my Mac back up. Highly Recommend for Mac Mini, also if replacing HD might as well get more RAM.

I bought this hard drive to replace the OEM hard drive in my 2010 13" Macbook Pro to increase my storage capacity from 250GB to 500GB. The product appeared to well-protected in it's packaging and arrived in a timely fashion. The hard drive was easy to install with the only caveat being it did not come with its own mounting screws, so I had to remove the ones from my old drive for this one (something rendered rather difficult by Apple over-tightening of the mounting screws in their manufacturing process). I did a clean install of Mac OS X Lion and reinstalled all my software and so far the product has been working with no issues over the past few days. The hard drive appears to be a great value for the price.The only reason this product does not get a full five stars is that it is significantly noisier than my old hard drive. Both hard drives are 5400RPM so I would expect them to have the same noise levels. The noise level for the product is not unbearable, but its not perfect either. I hardly even noticed my old drive whereas I certainly notice this one.

Took apart my Xbox 360 HDD case and replaced the 20GB HDD with this WD 250GB HDD. Plugged it in and all I had to do was hit "Y" to format the drive from the dashboard and now I have a working 250GB HDD on my 360.Xbox 360 250GB Hard Drive's are currently going for $117 on amazon at the time of this review 10/20/11. So I saved a lot of money doing it this way.The process took me less than 5 minutes. You will need a special Torx #5 and Torx #10 screwdriver to remove the screws from the HDD case. You can search on YouTube for a video showing how to do it.If you don't have a old Xbox 360 HDD to upgrade I've heard of people buying just the Xbox HDD shell by itself on eBay for cheap.This Western Digital 250GB works flawlessly. Just plug and play. 5/5.

I bought this hard drive because my 40gb ps3 was already full. It was a very simple process to switch the hard drives i saw a youtube video on how to switch the hard drives and I was able to do so on my first try! Now I have a huge amount of memory space.

This is a reasonably nice SATA drive but it is just too noisy for my X60 tablet. I had hoped this would be a nice replacement for the original 60GB drive. Drive has a pretty constant noise level that is a lot louder than the OEM fujitsu drive. Sounds like a fan running. I need to use the tablet in low volume environments so I had to return the drive unfortunately. After the return I did some research on this drive and other 320gb drives and found that the WD is not the quietest or most power efficient. Comparing drive specs, the DBA rating of WD drives are 25-26DBA while many comparable drives are much lower like the toshiba which is 19 - 20 DBA or about 20% less noise. Power consumption for the Toshibas is also significantly lower in all modes than the WD drive which should provide better battery life. I ended up buying a Toshiba MK3276GSX 320gb which is about the same price online as the WD. This drive is super quiet, runs cool and scored a 5.7 on the windows experience summary compared to a 5.6 for the WD drive. The reduced noise and vibration reduction are significant and battery life is noticeably better. If you like a quiet laptop or tablet, with longer battery life then I urge you to do some research before you buy the WD drive. For a desktop or game console, noise and power are not issues so the WD should be fine.

After growing tired of constantly removing data from my MacBook's 80G hard drive, I finally decided that it was time to change out the drive and save myself some time. The Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 2.5 Inch, 8 MB Cache, 5400 RPM SATA II WD5000BEVT was rated highly and reasonably priced, so I ordered it from Amazon. That night, I backed up my drive using Time Machine, re-read online instructions for replacing the drive, gathered my Torx T8 and little screwdriver, then waited for the new drive to arrive the next day. I prepared for the installation by starting from a laptop which was turned off, and a couple hours after the new drive was removed from it's box, proceeded with the quick replacement. Once I formatted and set up the new drive, I was amazed at the speed (no longer working with tiny amount of available memory), the silence, and the reduced heat. I've since ordered a casing for the removed 80G drive and will have that one as an external source for storage and operation if necessary. I love my Western Digital external drive and now I'm very pleased with this internal one as well!

device was fine...it worked with no problems..... but there was no warranty info with the order I don't know if it is covered or not if it fails....plus it took forever to get the order (10 days) .....the pony express could have gotten it here quicker.

Wow, the prices went up on these... but when they were $55, I bought two, one for a MacBook White, the other for a MacBook Pro. No more carrying around external USB drives, they seem to be as fast/quiet as the drives they replaced. Popped the old drives into $10 external USB cases, and all was well.

Worked perfectly right out of the box. Compact powerful storage solution that requires no external power source (USB powers the drive). Ideal for travelers who need quick data access or want a backup for important documents, music, movies or other media. The price has recently skyrocketed on these drives because of supply shortages due to flooding in Thailand. Expect prices to fall by 50% or more as supply normalizes near the holidays.

I bought this hard-drive 3 months ago to install onto my 60GB Playstation 3 and it works great. Did my research on which HDD would be best and it came down to this and the Seagate top contender, but after trusting my initial instinct, went ahead and chose WD. I've had no issues and would greatly recommend this for an upgrade to an older model PS3. Installation was incredibly easy and I was back up and running in 30 minutes.

I got this drive to upgrade the HDD in my early 2009 Mac mini. I chose this drive after seeing several posts online about people having good results with it in the Mac mini. It certainly works great in my Mac! It is really quiet; much quieter than the original Apple-supplied drive.There is a newer model of the drive available (WD5000BPVT) but it seems to get mixed reviews on Amazon and other online merchants, so I stuck with the tried and true older version.I also purchased a Vantec NexStar TX 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure. I put the new drive in the enclosure and used SuperDuper! to clone the original drive to the new one. This allowed my Mac to boot right up with the new drive installed. Then, after the upgrade was done, I put the old drive in the enclosure and use it as a portable drive.I couldn't be happer with this drive!

This is a standard 320 GB 2.5" SATA-2 hard-disk drive. I've had good luck with most of the major manufacturers, this was a good purchase for the price.It was used to repair / upgrade a small netbook that had a 160GB disk in.It works like a charm.It arrived on time and in good shape.Nothing stellar, nothing negative either.

I shopped around on Amazon for several days before deciding on this HD, and I can't say enough about how fantastic this product is.The price: phenominal. The speed: competative. The storage capacity: delightful.I upgraded my 2007 MacBook RAM and HD to support future editing projects with Adobe CS5 and everything has run incredibly smooth.Installation was a snap. After receiving my order my computer was up and running - including a new OS install - in less than an hour (visit youtube to find a number of step-by-step videos on how to install RAM and HD).Read several reviews complaining of noise issues, but I haven't noted any difference from the stock HD.I say this is a must buy for anyone looking to upgrade.

Great drive! Works perfect in my PS3 and now I never have to worry about running out of space. My old drive was a 40 gb and it seemed the system took up most of that. Now I have about thirty games installed with all the internet add ons and still have about 400 gb of free space. I can now add all my music and several movies if I want...love it!But don't let the install guides fool you, it is still a bit of an effort to get the drive formatted correctly. I had to have a computer service do it, either that or buy an external hard drive which I didn't need. Then I had to use a separate set of instructions to set up the drive. Not as cut and dry as all the online instructions indicated. If you are not good at computer tech stuff like me, then you will need help for sure!But bottom line, the drive is great! 500 gb is the max that the PS3 will recognize and it works perfect, I couldn't ask for better. For performance and functionality, I give it 5 stars.

Just got this in mail, and loaded into my Macbook. First impression on the drive: fast, and very quiet comparing to my old 160GB OEM drive that came with the Macbook. I was actually able to finish installing LightRoom 3 in 10 seconds, it took 20 or so on the old drive. Well let's see what the longevity is , I will report back later

I used this drive to replace the (constantly full 20 gig) drive in my xbox 360. I won't detail that process other than to say that the software tools and instructions widely available on the web are thorough, accurate, and easy to use. I had to use an older computer as my newer ones were incompatible with the software. This drive has been my primary storage device for over six months and has shown no signs of malfunctioning. I can now install as many game discs as will fit on the drive where the 20 gig was limited to a single installed disc and constantly in need of shuffling DLC packs and electronically distributed games to fit what I was playing. With this 250 in there, I have only uninstalled the games I have little to no intention of playing again. In 6 months of use, I have it maybe 30% full. The little bit of fiddling that had to be done was completely worth the $80+ I saved by avoiding the official drive upgrade.

Broght this to replace the boot drive on my son's Dell Inspiron 1720 Laptop, the one that failed was a Toshiba 500gb 7200rpm notebook hard drive that had burned out after only 9 months of use. I would have gotten one smaller but did not want to have to reload from scratch, I wanted to be able to use the Windows Home Server Image I had made with it to restore So I did not have to reactivate my copies of Windows 7 and Office 2010.This drive fit the bill perfectly. Very easy to install, The only 2 extra steps I had to do was in the Windows Home Server Recovery CD was inilize and format the New Hard drive to match the previous partitions and restored perfectly with no issues with the hard drive itself. The first one I got failed after I formatted, partitioned and put some back up files from the hard drive (HD) it suppose to replaced. I have attached this HD in a dock connected via usb. Afterwards, it won't show up among the devices under My Computer. I requested Amazon for the same kind replacement and I am very satisfied with the ease of exchange. So far it's now on my laptop working like magic. All I hear is a quiet blower/fan like sound. I am not sure if this is coming from the hard drive or the laptop fan. My laptop came (original) with a dual 120 GB HD. This is my second 500 GB Scorpio Blue hard drive upgrade, the other is more than a year old now, so far so good. I keep all my OS on the master (new) hard drive (Win7-64; Win7-32; Vista-32) and something else. The second hard drive is partitioned to contains all my files, photo, music, etc. I keep all else on my external 1 TB HD. It's less painful if it fails. I highly recommend this HD.

Drive arrived on time as predicted. tested and installed the drive in my daughters laptop after copying the system to it. It is working fine as of this date (installed about a week ). as it's a WD, I know if I do have a problem, WD will handle it quickly as I have dealt with them before on such matters.

I am pleased with my Western Digital 250 GB Scorpio Blue Sata Notebook Hard Drive that I ordered. It worked perfectly when I installed it into my laptop. My laptop was damaged a while back and has been sitting, but once I put this in with a new installation disc it came back to life. The seller shipped the item promptly and showed up in good condition.

I purchased this HDD to replace the original HDD of my PS3. I use my PS3 occasionally, and one day, while playing, the PS3 went blank (no power surge, it didn't fell off, and nothing happened out of the ordinary)..... I formatted the HDD several times, but it got stuck at 99%... After checking several forums, I found out that when this happens (format process stuck at 99%), the HDD is broken. Now I got a Samsung HDD, hopefully will work better than the WD....

I bought this hard drive to upgrade my fat PS3 with only 40gb's of space. It was very easy, you don't need any special tools, only a screwdriver. I backed up my old hard drive, uninstalled it, installed this one, and loaded everything back up. Now I have space to download full games and even put full blu-ray films(7GB) onto the hard drive.If you need any help with swapping out hard drives on the PS3, look it up on youtube, there are good quality videos up that helped me through the process.It arrived very fast since I ordered it through Amazon's prime. It was very well packaged, and the hard drive itself, was far away from any of the edges of the packaging, if it is dropped, it won't take a good hit.

I got one of these (500GB). It was easy to install, worked great. After burn-in, passed diagnostics. No complaints.It's great value in storage space for the money spent. I would highly recommend this as a laptop hard drive.I want to explain however two reasons why people may want to choose the 500 GB model above the larger capacity ones.First, the drive is slightly shorter meaning it is compatible with a larger number of systems. If you get a higher capacity one, you need to check with your laptop manufacturer about the maximum height allowed first. But 500GB is still a lot of storage for a laptop.Secondly, the larger height suggests more platters, and there is general consensus that the additional platters mean more heat would be produced. Laptops are environments where heat management is carefully done but where it is difficult. Heat can damage a circuit board over time and may affect other components as well, and so it is likely (as most hardware consultants I have read note) that there is a reliability cost in the added capacity as well, although I don't know of extensive studies on this hypothesis.

I bought this hard drive specifically to upgrade the capacity of my Sony PS3. The 2.5" SATA II drives are the only ones that will fit in the drive bay of the console. Knowing right off I was only going to buy a Western Digital drive, this was the biggest size available to me. What an excellent drive! Not only does it have tons of room for storage of all my game files and PlayStation Network dowloads but this thing is quick. I never did any speed tests, but I'd say it's half again as fast as the stock PS3 drive.
