Love this hard drive! I bought it for my ps3 which had 60gb in it. I'm using this drive as an external drive and now I have 465gb to use. The only catch was getting it formatted to FAT32 which cost about 30$. Now the ps3 recognizes it and runs fast and quiet.

Read previous reviews about this hard-drive and decided to purchase it. I purhcased it to upgrade my PS3 (60gb first generation system) and it was completed in 5minutes. It has been working great thus far and I have more than enough space to download movies and play games!

bought this for a PS3 HDD upgrade. works great instlation was a little harder than expected but still not bad. If you need a bigger HDD for your PS3 then this is a great one.

I got the Hard Drive so I could upgrade my ancient 20GB PS3. Installation is so easy a 10 year old could do it, and the drive works perfectly. Awesome product if you are looking to upgrade PS3 or other computer space, and the price is fantastic.

This is a great idea, to take my PS3 from 80 Gigs to 500. Now I can load all my songs, videos on to my PS3 and view them on my HDTV. I love it. BUT- as I said the installation was very easy(see U-tube). But the loading was a night mare. You will read on U-tube how east it it to use, and for 95% of the time that is correct. BUT for the few of us that it does not work easy, it can take hours of frustration. This is not the fault of the hard drive, so I still gave it a 3 to 4 star. If it loads correctly GREAT. I would definitely recommend this.

I installed this on my MacBook Pro IntelCore Duo (first generation macbook pro with the intel chip), 2 GB of RAM, 15.4 inch screen, 2.16 ghzPros:1. Size - although advertised as 500GB, it is really more like 465 out of the box. Regardless, it's a decent amount of memory.2. Reliability - every WD HD I've owned (this is my third) has been excellent, no problems as of yet3. Speed - movies, documents, music, pictures, all load quicklyCons:1. Noise - This is why there are 3 stars instead of 5. There is a subtle, high pitched whirring noise that is noticable only when there are no other sounds in the room. Although it is faint, it is high pitched enough to be quite annoying and bothersome. It's been enough of a problem that I've considered getting a quieter HD and returning this one, but I still haven't decided. What makes the noise even more bothersome is that it isn't constant - for example, if I scroll up and down on a website, the noise stops, but resumes immediately after I stop scrolling. This on and off high pitched whirring sound puts a damper on an otherwise great harddrive.

If your looking for more memory for the ps3 this is the perfect solution.Super simple to install and if you have any problems there's many youtube videos on how to change it out.This is a simple solution to upgrade an older ps3 rather than going and spending the money for a new console.

Bought It on November 2009 died in April 2010. Contacted costumer service and they told me that I have to send the Hard Drive in order to receive the New One. The problem is that i have to pay for the delivery of the bad Hard Drive and since I live in Nicaragua that is a problem because I have to pay almost $50 to send it.

I bougt this hd on Dec 16, 2008 as a replacement for the 60GB fujitsu on my PS3, upgrade processn and backup/restore went smooth, i didn't find any trouble. Drive worked very well, fast, low noise level, etc... then, on Dec 19, 2009 the disk suddenly died, without any warning the PS3 just froze on the XMB and shut itself down, when i turned it on again the HD wasn't recognized anymore and just keep making a clicking noise. At first i thougt about claiming the WD warranty, but this is the second WD drive that fails on me in less than a year so i decided to buy a 320GB Seagate Momentus to try my luck, i hope this one performs better.

Based on recommendations from friends as well as the overall positive reviews on various websites, I decided to order this HD to upgrade my PS3. It works great! Installation was a breeze! It took me less than 10 minutes to remove the stock HD and install this new HD. Just make sure you have the right size phillips screwdriver before you attempt to remove any of the screws or else you can easily strip them!Regarding the HD itself, it was formatted by the PS3 and restored my backup without any problems. With my backup restored, I still had over 400 GBs of free space! Amazon did a great job packaging the HD. It came inside a sealed anti-static bag supported inside a small box by styrofoam packaging material. The small box was then placed into a larger box surrounded by air-filled plastic packaging bags.Great price. Great packaging. Perfect if you're considering upgrading your PS3 HD!

I bought the new MacBook when it first arrived, usually I'll wait for the first generation to pass for any bugs to work out but with the solid construction and the death of an older laptop, I jumped in. I opted to max the ram (4gb at the time) but go for the basic (160gb) hard drive. I've upgraded many components on varying machines but was able to do the manual, physical swap in a couple of minutes. I got an Acomadata Tango external enclosure, popped this drive in, used Apple's disk utility to do an exact copy, less than two hours to transfer the 130gb I had stuffed on the old drive, chose this as the start up drive, popped open the macbook unplugged the old one and put this one in it's place. It's a really nice feeling to see 335 GB available at the bottom of each Finder window that pops up. In addition, I've got a back up (albeit a mere 160gb one) drive that's bootable. For $90 bucks and two hours, that's a lot of real estate. I wish more decisions were as simple and had as much bang for the buck as this one. Highly recommended! Now if I could just get the 2nd gen MacBook Pro screen replaced for less than $100 . . .

I bought this to replace my 40GB HD in my PS3, and it works fine. Once you install it, you must have a flash drive or some type of external media to download the latest PS3 update (3.10 at the time) to the flash drive, then to your PS3. Until you do that, you won't be able to start up your PS3. But after that, it worked great. Some people complain that the HD is only 465GB, but that's how the space is measured. They count a gig as smaller than it actually is to round off a number. (1215 is a lot less pretty number than simply dumbing it down to 1000.)Overall, great product, I'll never run out of space on this hard drive!If you need help replace an HD, contact me somehow!

Most reviews tend to be from people that just bought the drive.I purchased my drive in September.Started clicking in January.Died in February.I do not believe WD has perfected these compact large capacity drives. I believe this because the USB WD 500 GB Passport that I purchased along with my internal drive ALSO DIED THREE DAYS LATER.Two WD 500GB 2.5: drives died in the same week, both less than a year old.BE CAREFUL. Back up your S@*!$

I purchased this item to upgrade the storage capacity of my '08 Macbook. After reviewing this product on several retail sites, as well as visiting the kind employees at staples and best buy, I was sure this would be the perfect investment to spruce up my laptop. Also, western digitial advertises that this product is compatible with both Windows PC units and Apple units. Long story short, this product has not worked at all with my Macbook. For PC use, Western Digital all the way, but for Apple products, keep looking my friends....

Ordered as a PS3 replacement and it's been perfect all around. Installation is very easy, with the hardest part being removing the screws from the PS3 HD cage!! Other than that there have been no problems.

I bought this drive for my PS3. I got it on sale an NewEgg. Installation was smooth, and the drive has been working fine. However, it is quite loud. Much louder than the stock HDD. I'd go with a different one.

I bought this drive a few a days ago to install in my new unibody macbook. 500gb is just what I need to for all the music and vids. I am very impressed both with the ease of installation (apple) and the performance of the drive (WD). Installation was a snap, just followed the apple instructions making sure to back up my data to time machine first of course then one screw on the macbook (#0 Philips) and 4 on the drive (T6 torx) and plug in the eSATA and done! (wish someone had told me the sizes of the screws as my 250pc tool set did not have anything this small, but ACE hardware did for about 8 bucks for both.There was one little hiccup when I installed the drive and went to install Leopard it could not find the new drive to mount to. Luckily there is a limited tool bar at this stage and I selected "Disk Utility" from it. On a guess I erased the drive and formated it MAC-OS (Journaled) when that was done (about 30 seconds) drive was recognized and I was off to the install!Installed OS-X and let it do it's thing for about 30-45 minutes, it asked me if I wanted to restore from time machine selected the drive and DONE! (Note when you startup from the new HD you get a folder with a question mark, insert the Leopard install disc and it work from there (takes about 2-3 minutes to read disk and boot)Drive: Drive is super quite and does not get hot, I would say performs the same if not better than the OEM drive (250gb). Hope this was helpful and enjoy!

I would have installed it my self but I didn't have the tools. But it is soo fast! and quiet. My mac booted in less than 25seconds and applications started in one bounce. Really worth it.

I bought this hdd to upgrade my 40gb PS3 which was running out of space. All I have to say is this hdd works like a champ. I had to watch a go by youtube video to help me through the installation process but other than that it was a breeze.

Initially, seemed slow, maybe because the computer was reindexing everything copied over (using superduper) from the original hard drive. Now, works just as well as the hitachi drive, just a little bit louder as other commenters have mentioned. The hitachi was almost always silent, which was really amazing, but the space upgrade was worth the extra noise.. I think. It's definitely much much quieter than my old dell laptop, but I was getting spoiled by the silent operation of the MBP.

This 320gb hard drive works very quiet in this notebook at this time there are no issues, This hard drive is a product of western digital, so i dont expect any issues with this new hard drive.

I had the 40GB hard drive and with all of the potential that ps3 has it just wasn't enough. I did research and read reviews and decided to try the scorpio. It worked out great. It was very easy to install and I have a lot more space. I rated it neutral on speed only because I didn't notice it being any faster or slower than my old one.Highly recommend this product

Installed this drive in a macbook pro. performed a timemachine restore. Drive made it through the restore but died the following day. system failed to boot if the HDD was installed, would boot from DVD if the drive was removed, and of course would boot to the oem HDD.Amazon promptly cross-shipped a replacement. Hope this one fares better.

Great! I bought this Western Digital 500 GB 2 1/2" SATA Internal Hard Drive to upgrade the Drive on my 80 GB PS3. It was very easy to upgrade the hard drive. Instructions are on Playstation Network (on the internet) and in your PS3 manual. CNET has also publish instructions and there are some decent videos on You Tube just so you feel more comfort.The drive runs great. The drive was only $90 with free shipping from Amazon. A great deal.The drive runs great. I'm glad I upgraded my PS3.Bottom line, the drive works great and it was a very easy to upgrade. I chose this 5400 rpm 2 1/2" SATA drive because it is most compatible with the PS3 plus it will not generate more heat like a faster rpm drive may do.

No matter what version of the PS3 you buy, none of them offers the whooping 500 gb of space, and for the price of this HDD is a win win situation. Why upgrade to 500 GB and not for one smaller? That depends on your needs, but do realize that each day the digital content is expanding fast, and gaming digital content is no exception, and Sony's games because they take advantage of BluRay the demos can be quiet huge from the PSN store.You know that with 500 Gb of space you wont have to worry for space on you PS3 for a really long time (unless you download a lot of videos, that is another story). Easy to install, smooth performance, all in all a great product for any PS3 owner

I bought this drive as a upgrade to my mid-2009 MacBook Pro. I did much research as the new MBP is said to suffer compatibility issues with third party upgrades. After doing much reasearch it seems this model would be the right balance between compatibility (with the MBP), performance (ranked #3 topped only by the Seagate Momentus and WD Scorpio Black), and power utilization (consumes 1 watt vs the stock .8 watt compared to the rest ranging from 1.2 watts up).Installation required a "torx #6" tool to remove the MBP mounting screws from the stock hard drive which was reused on the WD. Installation was a breeze and the drive works great. I have not experienced any issues with beeping and pausing that many have reported with the Seagate Momentus (possibly MBP specific) nor did I notice any increase in noise over the stock drive. I did not measure battery life but it does consume an extra .2 watts. I recommend this drive to anyone intrested in upgrading their mid-2009 MacBook Pro.

Itz too good to get one under 70 bucks and itz doing the work what it supposed to doNo hassles and no pain in installation of new OS good for any Laptop which supports SATA HDDI read so many reviews on speed but for me 5400 rpm speed is good because it is not taking too much of my battery power like 7200 rpm discs.I really recommend this product to a friend.

I bought this as an internal storage for my RCA L10T media player. Use this player almost daily and sometimes leaving it on for days (forgot to turn it off). It is quiet in the environment it is in (next to TV, DVD players, DVRs, etc) even when everything else is turned off. It does heat up a little, but that's probably because the media player doesn't have internal cooling fans. The drive has been quite reliable for the last 3 months I've been using it. It has been great so far.

As someone before me has stated, it's possible to use this as a PS3 upgrade. And that's sure what I did.I do, unlike previous reviewer, use it for a movie collection. And BOY, it doesn't disappoint. With as much information stored on there, and all the space used up, it would seem like the PS3 or the hard drive would slow down, but I can assure everyone it runs at the same exact speed, and takes the same amount of time, as my 80 gb (factory installed) hard drive took to run. It works for all my uses.Since this is more of a review over the hard drive I will stick with that. Currently been using for over a few months, and it hasn't had one single error thrown out of it, or one problem. Perhaps it's the reason I'm using it for that has left this working well, since I can't give expert advice on how it would react on a laptop or desktop. But it works fine.Worth definitely the look into if it fits your needs, as I'm happy with it.

Blue Scorpio drives might serve ok as back-up or external drives, but don't use them for intensive day to day use. Specifically, don't install one as your boot drive. I tried replacing my stock Hitachi 320 which has the same spin rate and same cache size, but the Blue Scorpio was really laggy causing very noticeable and annoying pauses every few seconds as the OS had to wait for it to access. I replaced it with a Seagate Momentus -- a little less roomy, but much faster and easier on the wallet, too.

Actually, I bought this drive a few months ago and it's still a very worthwhile upgrade today. I run YDL 6.1 Linux as well on my PS3 on a 10GB partition and the balance (remember, you lose on average of 7% of usable space due to formatting) goes to the console for all the PSN downloads (DLC, wallpapers, and themes in addition to whatever ever music and photo files you may wish to store on it as well)... and still have room for much, much more!The PS3's latest 2.60 firmware has a slick photo gallery application that could chew up disk space, obviously depending on the amount of photos you have. I store quite a bit of digital media on USB external HDDs in addition to a network attached server however with this drive, you're pretty much assured that it stays "future-proof" for as long as possible... until the PS4 arrives.Finally, it doesn't make much more sense to pay the extra $100 for the available 160GB PS3 when you could grab this drive and double that capacity for less and not void any warranties. Again, a very worthwhile and simple upgrade if you're thinking of doing this to your PS3. You really won't benefit very much with a 7,200 RPM with the PS3 either, so save your cash especially since this drive is whisper quiet as compared to a 7,200 drive. Also, you don't need the retail package version that you would find in let's say a Best Buy because if you're intending to use this with a PS3, all you need is the drive itself so the retail package with cables, instructions, etc. is not needed at all so you may as well pocket the savings and sell your old drive on eBay or craigslist.

I was looking for a hard drive to replace the 160gb one in my laptop that died from the heat.The Western Digital Scorpio Blue met my requirements:1) Price - the 320gb was within a few bucks of the 160gb. No brainer to get the bigger one.2) SATA II/3.0gb - even though my older drive was only SATA I, the Scorpio is backwards compatible.3) Less heat - the lower power consumption of the newer hard drives like this one means less heat which killed the old one.4) Warranty - Western Digital (WD) has an easy RMA process. If this hard drive craps out in the next 3 years I can get another one from WD no problem.The Scorpio Blue installed without a hitch has been running happily in my laptop since I got it. When the hard drive died in my sister's laptop a few weeks later I knew what to buy again !!

As you can see from the title, this hard drive totally beats the crap out of my stock OEM hard drive in my laptop! Coincidentally, the hard drive that got installed in my laptop was also a Western Digital Scorpio, but it was of really bad quality. I got this hard drive because my old hard drive got some bad sectors on it after a while, it was just too loud, and I wanted more capacity. I remember that with my old hard drive in my laptop, I could totally hear it turn on any time I turn my laptop on or wake it from hibernation or sleep. With this one, it's really quiet when I do any of those things! Installation of this hard drive was really simple! It was my first time replacing a hard drive in a laptop, and I did it easily! This is a great hard drive for the money! It's nice and quiet, and it has a great 400 GB capacity! I totally recommend this hard drive if you're replacing your current one, or just want a new one! Great job, Western Digital!

I bought the new MacBook Aluminum (13" - Late 2008), with the 160GB hard drive, which quickly fell short to my storage demands. While on the market for an upgrade hard drive, I came across the WD 500GB Scorpio Blue and hesitant at first (I could not find anywhere a post which would guarantee that it would work with my MB), I decided to go for it. Upon receiving my hard drive, I ran the Time Machine on my MB, switched the OEM hard drive for this beauty (it took about 15 mins.), installed Leopard from the DVD that came with my MB, and then restored from the most recent TM backup (installing the OS took about 10 mins, and restoring the backup took about 2 hrs - it was a 140GB backup!). So far, I've had no problems whatsoever using the drive. It is very quiet, does not heat up excesively (comparable actually to the original hard drive), and now I have a MB with a 500GB drive!!!I am extremely satisfied with this drive, and would definitely recomend it to any MB/MBPro owner who wants to upgrade the hard drive.------------Update: July 19th, 2010I've been using this hard drive for over a year and a half now, without any problems whatsoever. Quite drive, no difference in power consumption, performs great! Actually, I am thinking about replacing it with the new 1TB Scorpio, especially because my digital movie collection is growing really fast (I'm ripping my own DVD's so I can view them in my LCD TV, my iPhone, my iPod or my MBP). Great drives, and to be honest, I've never heard of any freezing, beach balls, or any other problems before or after I bought my drive. Great product...still give it 5 stars!

I purchased this HDD as a replacement to my 120GB original which was installed in my Dell Vostro 1500, which was a Fujitsu. Great price @ $55.00; however I just saw it cheaper for $5 less. Amazon is just great!

I bought this to replace my 40 GIG hard drive in my PS3. With all the games on the PS3 we began getting the message that we were running low on space. My son is the one who suggested this HD. To think I was actually considering buying a new PS3 for more space. Very well priced and easy to install! It fits very well into the HD bay on the PS3. Highly recommended for those that are going to upgrade their PS3.
