Bought this for use with an xbox 360 slim, cost $50 instead of $120 for the official one. Have to run a program to make it compatible. Amazon shipped it in a static bag, inside of a smallbox. Drive was secured using spacers. Not sure fastest drive out there but certainly adequate, reliable so far.

Update: 16 months and the disk is still OK.No complaints. Came very well packaged, no issues with instalation and runs a tiny, tiny bit less hot than the 320GB I had before.No complaints about the speed either. It replaced a 320 which was almost full and Windows NT/w7/etc slow down with full hard drives. So, being a 5,200 rpm only still sped my system up.Good purchase and reasonable price.

Just received it today = thank you amazon prime!I ended up putting it into a hard drive enclosure and cloned my laptop's hard drive using EaseUs Todo backup free.After that was done, I unplugged everything and took out the old hard drive, replaced it with this new Western Digital one and hoped for the best.The result was great, I had cloned my exact hard drive including all files and programs installed etc without losing anything.Great thing about this hard drive1) 465 GB of available space....After doing a clean install of windows 7, i had 450 GB Free2) Runs really quiet... i could feel my old samsung drive spinning if i put my hand on the laptop3) so far it hasn't gotten hotPlus the packaging was easy to open : )

This HD disk works so well in my PS3. I've had it about 8 months or so now and it works like a dream. It's quiet and I have not even used up half of the space yet! I'm so happy with this purchase and would highly recommend this particular hard drive disk to any gamer running out of space on their current hard drive for their PS3.

So i was getting ready to order this last night but wanted to wait until my deposit was confirmed. Sure enough this morning deposit is there and came on to order this. The price went up more than double over night. Awesome, thanks for treating your customer so right.I get WD has a mess over in Thailand because one of the factories is under water but holy crap. Way to let that craproll down hill to your customers.

My 3 1/2-year-old Dell notebook computer was running out of space on the 120GB Toshiba hard drive that came installed on it. There were fewer than 5GB remaining. After contacting Dell's technical support team to determine if my computer's BIOS would recognize the capacity of a larger drive, I learned that 500GB was the largest that my notebook computer would accommodate. That narrowed down my choices considerably. Amazon's price for this WD drive was the best I could find. Most of the reviews for this drive were positive, both on Amazon and on other Websites, so I ordered one along with an external USB SATA hard-drive enclosure.When this WD drive arrived, I mounted it in the enclosure, plugged it into a USB port on my notebook computer and used Acronis True Image Home to clone the data from my existing hard drive to my new drive. Once the cloning job was complete, I removed the old hard drive from my notebook computer and replaced it with this new one. I was delighted that my computer instantly recognized the new drive and booted normally. There were three differences that I immediately noticed:1. Instead of less than 5GB of free hard-drive space, I now have more than 344GB of free space.2. My computer now opens and saves files noticably faster.3. Projected battery life has been extended about 15 minutes from 4:30 to 4:45.In summary, for a much smaller investment than replacing my notebook computer, I was able to considerably extend its useful life and improve its performance too. After mounting my old Toshiba 120GB hard drive in my external USB enclosure and formatting it, I now have a handy backup drive as well. My new Western Digital 500GB 2.5" hard drive has not only met but exceeded my expectations both with its performance and its price. Unfortunately the price of this hard drive has approximately doubled since I bought mine.

purchased this for the sole purpose of installing it into my 60GB PS3 and couldn't of been happier. took out my old HDD took me about 5 mins then took this one and installed it into the HDD bay turned on my PS3 and i was up and running in all of 20 mins. (note if you don't want to download all your stuff again onto to your PS3 use an external HDD and backup your stuff with the backup utility on the PS3 if not then make sure to use an USB drive to back up your saves then just redownload all your stuff on the PS Store)

This WD Scorpio is such a great product at a reasonable price. For less than the amount of a new game you could get 500 GB of storage to use on your PS3 or Laptop. I bought this specifically for my PS3 because I needed more storage after 3 yrs of constant use. Installing the hard drive was almost as simple as pulling out a plug. All you have to do is backup your saved data on a separate hard drive, take out the original old hard drive, insert the new WD scorpio, turn on the PS3 and format your new hard drive when prompt by the screen, and then reinstall your backup data. It was as simple as that. I thought I might had to format the WD drive to fat32 before inserting it into the PS3 but the PS3 recognized it the minute I turned it on making this procedure so simple and easy. Keep in mind though that like all Hard drives you won't actually have the full amount of space the drive indicates. I actually only have about 476 Gbs after formatting because of the partitions, but this is not big deal for me.I've been using the drive for a while now and it's working just as well as the first day I received the item. This is a great choice if anyone wants to upgrade their old hard drive. A definite recommendation to all.

HP DV2000 Series; Dv2740se with Vista Home Premium, AMD 64x2 2.1ghz Processors and 3GB RAM.Relatively easy to install. Had to download Acronis WD Imaging software from the WD website before cloning. Used external drive case to transfer data before installing in computer. Partition was automatically set to 441GB on the C drive and 23.8GB on the D drive. After installation and upgrading to Windows 7 OS, I had 404gb out of 441 free. I re-installed all my files and documents and was left with 346GB of free space. For some unknown reason after an initial defragmentation and restart, I ended up with only 317GB of free space. Not sure where the space went. Conducted an inventory of program files, documents, etc... and only came up with 55GB of data and another 40GB of program and setup files to include OS usage. I should have 346GB free but I have 29GB of space unaccounted for. What happened to it? So this is why it's not 5 Stars.Other than that, runs quieter than the stock HP/Hitachi unit it replaced and just as fast. Also noticed that battery life is a little longer now, not sure if the W7 OS has something to do with it as well.Also of note, this ships without any instructions. You'll have to go to the WD website to get that.

Extremely easy to swap this with old hard drive after a little DIY googling on subject. This Western Digital 250GB hard drive was just what this 3-year-old MacBook needed for additional large-sized software programs. It was easy to partition (single partition and naming) then bought Snow Leopard OS to get the operating system running again. It took my back-up apps/programs that I had on an external drive via Time Machine. There is absolutely no fan noise as with the annoyingly loud fan constantly running with the original 80GB hard drive. This WD HDD also eases the heat that the MacBook was emitting with the original smaller HDD. Great value at Amazon.

I had to replace the hard drive in my black, first-generation Macbook this summer that I've had for three or four years. I'd never gotten a non-Apple replacement part, but things are working just fine so far and I've had it in for 5 months. :)

HARD DRIVE CRASHED on my 2008 Mac Book 13in after 12 months of normal use. Also noticed decreased battery performance shortly after installing it. For the amount of money spent on this hard drive that only lasted a year I highly recommend NOT buying this item!

I bought this hard drive product to upgrade my original 160GB in my Apple MBP 13 " (mid 2009). Got the hard drive in May 2010 and did a self-install. However, I just ran a hard drive test and the hard drive has failed. I started noticing "bouncing beach balls" a while back (say about 3-4 months ago) I upgraded my RAM from 2GB to 4GB, it helped a little but the beach balls returned shortly after. I never thought the hard drive could have failed and I had been pondering what the problem could be - until I read an article on hard drive failures and did a test to confirm. Fortunately, it did not (or has not) crash on me. So I'm in the market for a new laptop hard drive.The WD HD served me well - quiet, good performance, I think it heated up a bit more than before. I would recommend it.

I purchased both a WD500BEKT and a WD5000BEVT (aka "Black" and "Blue" models). I ended up trying both in a new Macbook Pro 15" i5 (early 2011).I first used the Black model as it rated at a faster spin rate - 7200 RPM vs Blue's 5200 RPM. I did notice an improvement in boot speed and application launch over the machines factory installed Seagate Momentus 320GB 5400.6 model. This was great until I noticed a disturbing vibration within the machine. Although it was not overwhelming or all that loud, it was definitely noticeable throughout the entire computer, even on the screen, and especially under the right palm rest where the hard drive is mounted. It vibrated enough to feel it through the hardwood table the computer was resting on.I decided to swap the Black model with the 500GB Blue model I had purchased for an older MacBook that recently died. This decreased and almost completely eliminated the vibration. There may be a slight decrease in performance versus the black, but not enough for me to notice or care. I do a lot of photo manipulation on large (500MB) images in Photoshop and can't say the Blue has slowed me down any.It may be that the particular Black drive I received is a little out of balance, but, for me, the Blue definitely wins for its lack of vibration and whisper quiet performance.

I bought this for installation into my PS3 slim. I had a slight hiccup with it not seating properly during installation, but after doing some research, this is not part specific...just something that happens. I have had no problems with the hard drive and am loving the extra space!

I had originally bought a seagate 250 GB hard drive to replace my ps3s full 60 GB one and it didnt go to well. It sat at 1% for a good 12 hours and I realized that the person I bought it from had sent it to me DOA so I sent it back and ordered this one. I installed it and within minutes (Apx. 10) I was already reinstalling saved files and within 30 minutes I was already playing games. This product is pretty awesome except for how much heat it lets out, my ps3 would never get that hot but then again it is a bigger HD and since it gets so hot the fans are blowing out the hot air a lot louder than before.

I bought this to replace my old 60gb hard drive in my old fat-model PS3. I didn't have to do any formatting or any of that jazz. I plugged in a 2gb flash drive and copied all my game saves/profiles to it then spent less than 5 minutes removing the old 60gb hard drive and putting in the new 500gb one. It started right up and the Playstation automatically asked if I wanted to format it, which took all of one minute. Then I copied my game saves back over to the new hard drive from my flash drive. Entire process took about 15 minutes.5 stars across the board!

Got this drive as an upgrade for my PS3. Installation was a breeze. For those who have a newer model there is a firmware you have to have downloaded on a usb drive in order to get formatting to work. An added step Sony added after the network hack. Would have been nice for me to know that bit of information befor I started the upgrade so I figured I would let others know. Can not believe this died after 6 months on a laptop that is moderately used for school work. No games on the laptop and is pretty light weight in-terms of no of programs loaded.Thinking it might have a warranty on it and I may send it back.

I opted for the 5400 rpm drive after seeing a few adverse comments about the perceived noise level from the 7200 rpm drive. I could not be any happier with my selection. I went from having it delivered to having it installed in an internal enclosure in a few minutes including the time I spent gawking at it (I never had seen a hard drive before in person). Many of the pictures you see show the internal view, which looks intimidatingly like a fragile record player, rather than the external view, which looks invitingly like the sealed unit that it is. Don't tell your geeky friends that it's so easy to install one.Jim

Great Hard Drive for the price. I had to replace one that died (too many bad allocated sectors), and normally, I would go with a different product since I don't want to see the exact same failure down the line. (I'm pretty sure it was heat related, not specifically due to the HD itself.) However, for the price and storage, it just couldn't be beat, especially when taking into consideration the lifespan of a laptop, which has integrated parts that can't be replaced, even though they are out of date.

I bought this drive to use in a PS3. The drive works great, however, there are some steps you need to go through in order to get it to work in the system. After starting the system in "safe mode" and reinstalling the OS the PS3 works great. I have had no problems with the drive and I am thinking about replacing my laptop drive with one.

I needed a drive to store rather large logs from my time machine. The information on this drive really helped me out back in that little disagreement with Genghis Khan. It's a good drive. Would purchase again in the future/past.

Double your hard drive capacity (or more in most lower priced laptops) by installing this highly compatible, great quality internal drive. It is a straightforward fit, enough so that when I couldn't achieve success trading out the hard drive as a means to resurrect my less than one year old Acer laptop after it got hacked (the malicious worm/virus/Trojan managed to fry the circuitry of somewhere on the motherboard too, not just the drive), I swapped out the drive in a nine year old Toshiba laptop instead, with this same drive. Took right off when I formatted it and loaded Windows 7 operating system. The drive has zero software on it upon arrival, and that is up to you after physical installation. I was impressed with the smooth cooperation of this component. Upgrading your laptop has no easier piece of that puzzle. Keep in mind that anything in this style of hard drive over 600 GB capacity is thicker (and may not fit in laptop installation). If you're upgrading your laptop like I did, you can replace a 60 GB ancient drive with this new replacement 500 GB and nearly gain ten times the storage capacity. You will have to format and install all new software, but I was going to anyway.

was skeptical at first when i purchased this HD to upgrade my 80GB fat ps3 because I've previously tried upgrading with the 500GB Seagate Momentus 7200rpm SATAII HDD and my games were all skipping across the board and would often get stuck at certain points. SO I reverted back to my 80GB drive to save the headache however, I was starting to run out of rooms and I really hate to delete game data. SO i bit the bullet and went out and bought the other option of HD guys were using in their ps3 and I am so glad I did!INstallation was quick and easy, backing up took the longest at 4hrs however restoring was a breeze and only took 2hrs whereas the seagate took nearly 8hrs to restore the same amount of data.great buy and works wonders in ps3!

This is a great hard drive. I bought it to replace the 64 GB SSD that came with my Dell XPS M1530 laptop because while SSD's are great and super fast, 64 GB is just not enough space to have as a main drive. I was worried about the performance decrease in going from an SSD back to an HDD, but so far I don't notice any difference in computer operation. File I/O speeds are still great. I backed up my external drive contents to a partition on this new drive, about 20 GB of data, and it finished in a reasonable amount of time. I would definitely recommend this drive to others. It's a great value for the price.

Here's the deal if you're looking to upgrade your PS3's Hard Drive, buy this!! The swap out is easy enough, just google how to upgrade your PS3's hard drive, and you'll find enough info. to get through it with no problems. Definately, the best choice for upgrades available.....

I bought this drive thinking I could simply swap it with my 80gb original PS3 drive. Not a chance.There is much additional work if you want to change hard drives for a PS3 and, frankly, I don't think it's worth the trouble. I can buy a brand new PS3 with warranty for $299 and likely get a gift-card when the big box stores are having them on sale/special. If my time in tinkering with this replacement hard drive is worth anything, it's simply not worth the trouble of formatting a backup USB drive, backing up all my data from the original PS3 drive, finding a suitable laptop, formatting this replacement drive, physically installing it, installing the PS3 operating system and all updates, and then transferring all the backup data from the USB drive to the new drive.I originally thought the PS3 had some sort of basic operating system or BIOS in RAM. It's all apparently on the hard drive. So-- unlike most laptop of desktop computers-- if you just try to install this drive and make a clean start, you can't. The PS3 has no idea what to do with this drive, will not format it, and will not even allow you to play DVDs or Blu-Ray disks with this drive installed.

I purchased the WD Scorpio HD because of all the great reviews I had read about it. It was purchased to replace the current 40GB HD in my Playstation 3. It arrived, and I installed it in less than 15 minutes. Followed Sony's instructions for copying over my data, and I was up and running in no time. I've had the drive installed for a couple months now, and have had no troubles at all. I've already installed over 120GBs of data and still have over 340GB free. Great purchase!

I dont have too much to say other than it was a great price, took 2 seconds to install in my Playstation 3 and formatted fairly quick. Games install fast and playing off the hard drive seems fine. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to upgrade their hard drive in their Playstation 3. 500gb is more than enough space for anyone that constantly downloads games off the Playstation Network. Can even store full length movies and tons and tons of music! Great price, Great speeds, Great performance!

I bought this to replace the 250gb hard drive in my Macbook Pro 13". The installation was quite easy. However, the noise was unbearable and quite loud. Not close to apple quality or oem. I returned it and purchased a oem drive off ebay which was cheaper.If you can stand the loud noise, this is the drive for you.

I installed this hard drive in my netbook to replace my old one that died. I have had it in for about 2 months now, with no problems. My only complaint is the clicking sound it makes while it runs. It worried me at first because it is the same noise my old one made before it died, but it seems to just be how it runs, it's not too loud though. It is mainly just something I hear when it is quiet.

Recently the hard drive in my laptop 'burned up' so of course being the internet addict that I am; I immediately began searching for a replacement for the (less than satisfactory OEM) Hitachi drive. Western Digital has always been good to me so I started there. The drive installed easy like you would expect and within five minutes I was installing Windows 7. I hope to continue using this drive into the distant future, or however long it takes 350gb to becomes infinitesimal.P.S. You simply cannot beat the price on Amazon

Haven't had this item for too long, only a few weeks, but so far I haven't had any problems with it. I gave it 4 stars because it comes with Western Digital's IntelliPark software preinstalled, which sucks and ultimately wears out the park head faster than any other HDD. However, considering you can just go to WD's website and download an application named "wdidle3.exe", which can modify the IntelliPark feature, this is not such a big problem, just really bothersome. If anyone is going to use this program, just make sure to set it to the maximum time (300 seconds) and not turn off the feature, as I've read that turning it off will render the HDD really slow on the long run.

I bought this harddrive after my blankety-blank blank Hitachi 2.5" harddrive installed in my Dell Vostro 1510 died, RIGHT AFTER the warranty expired. A coincidence? I'll let you decide. :PPROS --1. Quiet - I didn't get the 10000 RPM just for this reason: I wanted my laptop to be QUIET. I don't want my neighbor banging on the wall thinking that I'm having a loud raucous party going on in the computer chassis, no. I wanted it Q-U-I-E-T. And that's what this harddrive brings to the table. Silence.2. Windows 7 Installation - A+. Windows 7 detected this harddrive and within seconds I was cursing Windows 7 instead of Windows Vista. Ah, the joys.3. Installation - Easy enough, snap out my old harddrive, and snap in this new one. Only, with more care, and less cursing than I was doing to the dead harddrive, the Hitachi 2.5" 250GB. This thing now has more space than I could possibly use up. Okay, maybe not, but give me at least a year before I'll have to reformat.4. Packaging - Amazon blew me away with the packaging. Everything was tightly wrapped and stuffed in appropriately. The harddrive itself was in the usual anti-static bag, and then it was in a small box suspended perfectly so that it wouldn't jostle that much, and then it was encased in a larger box (because I ordered other items), and packaged appropriately near the center so that it would be the one to get jostled the least. Thumbs up, Amazon.CONS --1. Bare drive - As always, I always want more, WHY Amazon don't you package your harddrives with something, ANYTHING other than just the harddrive? It needs a friend, like a few tiny screws for my laptop to hold it in place.2. Shipping - Although free, shipping this time around took FOREVER for this laptop harddrive. No idea why.Overall, you should buy this drive, but don't buy it if you need a replacement drive now NOW NOWWWWW, just buy this if you need a backup or whatnot. All in all, I would definitely buy this from Amazon again if I needed another one.

Bought this as a replacement for a faulty laptop hard drive. It was cheaper and with more capacity than the options I could have got at a store. Big plus for me.So far, I've not had any issues with it.

I've had this for a while now, and I like it so far. It's quiet, seems to heat up normally like any other hard drive, and the speed is as expected.I like it. :)The only real noise issue I have is when I start up my computer... it makes a "ee-er" sound, once, right upon starting. But it's not a big deal, and not enough to deter me from buying another one of these.I'm using this hard drive in a Macbook Pro, and I like it.
