Wow! I just inserted the disc in my computer, followed instructions and was online in under a minute. Its really simple and the best part is the unmatched performance. I had a Netgear N300 while I was waiting for this one and signal was pretty bad the second you got away from the router and response times were laggy too, but not with this one!Here is some advice from another reviewer that helped me:- If you are using WPA2, don`t use TKIP encription because will affect your speed with 30 to 50 %. Always use WPA2 with AES encryption (for any wireless router)- If possible, DON`T use mixed mode. If you want maximum speed, enable wireless N only, with 40MHz channel bandwidth. With mixed mode b,g,n and mixed clients you will never get maximum speed with a single-band router.Purchased on March 30th, 2012Review Edit on Feb 20th, 2013 below:Router needs to be reset multiple times a month, I don't know why.

Got this router to improve coverage through out our house. Replaced an older Linksys router. This one works great. We have it in the basement and it covers all the way up to the 2nd floor bedrooms with no issues. Pretty happy with it so far.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. THIS IS A PIECE OF SHIT FROM THE GET-GO. SINCE DAY ONE, THIS ROUTER DROPS THE SIGNAL AND NOT ONLY THE WIRELESS SIGNAL, BUT ALSO WIRED CONNECTION DROPS. THOUGHT IT WAS ME, REPLACED MY CARD AND IT STILL DROPS. CANNOT GET MFG TO ASSIST OTHER THAN TELL ME IT IS MY FAULT OR MY CONNECTION IS BAD. DUH!!!!!Seller will not contact me, after 2 request to replace this unit no one as of this review has ever contacted me. I wanted this unit because of the signal strength it advertised... DUH!!! no such a thing.Final words, buy something else

I originally gave 5 start to this product but I was soo wrong. Sorry if my review influenced some customer to get this terrible router. Read the other reviews, this router slows the bandwidth to frustrating speed. Don't call the cable company for slow internet until you try another router. I had an old WRT54GSv7 (the worst of the WRTs) and I get higher speed than with TP-LINK. The problem is hardware, a firmware upgrade won't likely change this (I've tried OpenWRT, same problem). In my case it slowed my 50Mbps internet to less than 1Mbps. I'm IT engineer, so it's not like I didn't know what I was doing.

This router worked fine for about a week and then crashed completely. I was able to narrow down the problem to the fact that the router just didn't like having WPA2 security running while on the stock firmware. But seeing as I needed that level of security, I decided to install DD-WRT. Even though this was my first time installing DD-WRT (I prefer to create my own Linux/BSD boxes for firewalling/routing) it was fairly painless. I thought all was good until the router crashed again last night after being online for less than twelve hours. Because this is in a condo and doesn't get too much use, I'm sticking with it for now. If it starts performing better, I'll update the review, but, for now, I would not recommend this piece of equipment.Edit: Soon after publishing this review, the router crashed again so I am going to return it to Amazon and get a better quality router from a more reputable brand.

I was happy customer of TL-WR1043ND so bought next TL-WR1042ND - supposed to be faster and more reliable but IT'S NOT! Run it on 3 PC home network and it hung once a day. Another issue is that although it forwards the traffic but web interface to the router completely does not work (mgmt port (default 80) does not respond at all). Now I have piece of useless plastic.. I got used to more reliable TP-LINK products. It's disappointing.

I bought this router to replace my D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Gigabit Wireless Router back in October 2010, which I thought was having problems (but it turned out it wasn't the DIR-655 at all). In any case, since I had already disconnected the DLink, I continued using this TP-Link in its stead.In all this time, I have never once wished I went back to the DLink. Everything I did on the DLink, I can do on this TP-Link. Streaming videos, bittorrent, even online gaming on MMORPGs, ran flawlessly with this router. As an example, I was streaming internet radio, online to Star Trek Online (an MMORPG), and had bittorrent downloading on another PC. I experienced no lag or warping or rubberbanding at all on my MMO game.While I understand that you can load 3rd party firmware into this router, such as the DD-WRT, I never did so. I found that the latest official firmware from the TP-Link site worked well enough for me, so I practiced that old adage - if it ain't broke, don't fix it! :)One major difference that I can see between this and the DIR-655 is the USB port support. On the DLink, you need to run a client-side software to access the "Shareport" (as DLink calls it), to access an external harddisk that you may have connected to the USB port. On the TP-Link however, all you need to do is go into the setup and scan for new hardware. Once done, it is available to all networked clients immediately without the need for an additional utility. However, I believe that the TP-Link does not support a USB printer, which the DIR-655 does.EDIT - 1st October 2011** Since the original review, I have now tried various sizes of USB drives with this router. The maximum size that the router can support is 2 Terabytes. I tried sticking a 3TB drive in but nothing would show up on the router configuration screens.**As I said, it performed so well that it is literally no different from if I were running the DIR-655, a so-called "gaming router". The difference is of course, the price - less than half of what I paid for the DLink..Yeah my DIR-655 is now put away in the box, as a "standby" unit in case this TP-Link one ever fails.

I run Network Services Business and I tested a lot of higher end and low end routers in this class and this one does it all. I test BT it TP-LINK sets up that and I don't even have to bother with TCP/UDP settings for port forwarding. It does it all. There are several hardware versions. Make sure Amazon has sent you Hardware v1.7. Firmware the stock runs just fine no issues. You could install DD-WRT on it but that only taps into features that were disabled by TP-LINK. Out the box you get WDS or you can use it as APNs (access point networks) Which I do here. I have 3x of these Wireless Gig N Routers. They have Ahteros 400MHz WNPU (wireless network processor unit), 832KB for Packet Buffer on the Gig Controller Chip, 32MB of RAM, 3x 3dBi SMA ANT which are removeable. That gives you 9dBi. I would recommend ordering TP-LINK 5dBi sold on Amazon that would give you 15dBi along with your 20dBm 100mW. The settings gives you 802.11 b, g, n or mix. But why stop there you get 802.11b only, 802.11g only or 802.11n only settings along with 20MHz only 40MHz only or Auto. Throughput is set as high as 300mbps. None of the other brands give you these settings. They below the average customer don't need all the complex settings. I say they're wrong we do need them and thanks to TP-LINK for giving us the option to tweak our low price all-in-one wireless router. There is even a USB port for LAN port sharing. With 3 of these TP-LINKs here I am well covered. 9x ANT on 3 different floors. I now have them set only to 802.11n @ 40MHz and my signal strength under Cloud Sniffer has increased by 10%. Under mix mode b/g/n you loose 10% gain. I was thinking about buying a 4th one to run all G devices, like netbooks, laptops, Android Tablet. The Android Tablet need strong signal. I have one that has 802.11n and it now flies under the 40MHz.I would highly recommend this top of the line TP-LINK router. I've use their products prior and have no issues with them. Also this TP-LINK is shipped with v1.7 and the latest firmware from TP-LINK already.Contacting TP-LINK engineers and asking questions they're more than welling to help and share info.Good Luck!

This is what I was hoping for a great long range router.It worked as soon as I plugged it in without even resetting my modem.Did not use enclosed cd..Fast shipping and a wonderful product at a great price.

Don't buy these products if you are using Windows 7 64 bit.The drivers they have don't install correctly and the support is crap. I've sent them everything about the build and install problems and heard nothing. Their support number was pulled when i tried to call.Save your money and go elsewhere.Frys recommends their products unfortunately. Probably trying to push them to get them out of inventory.

Where this router gets its raving reviews from is beyond me. I have a typical home network with a cable modem and a few laptops and smart phones. None of the devices gets a stable connection to the router. Signal levels and bit rates vary widely although all devices are close to the router. Data transfers stall, connections drop, and some wireless-n connections even crash the router. Same results with different modes and settings. Newer, even open source firmware (besides voiding warranty) does not improve performance. I had to revert back to my old D-Link router which is much more stable at wireless-g connections. Save your time and money! This router is not fit for use.

I bought this router after reading several reviews and articles about the amazing performance of this router. What I needed was a router to replace a dying router on my existing network, as an Access Point only. I have U-Verse, so I have a 2-Wire DSL modem/router combo that serves as my primary router and DHCP server. I have configured several routers (Linksys, Cisco, ASUS, Belkin, etc.) to work as an Access Point within my network. I wanted this TP-LINK router to be a Wireless-N only access point. No matter what I tried, this router would not access the Internet. Also, when I added this router to my network, it caused some kind of interference that caused a tremendous slow down with my other wireless routers. And yes, I changed all relevant settings like Wireless Channel, Security Types, etc - still the network degradation continued. I went to TP-LINK's support page and tried calling their USA Support Hotline, and I get the following message EVERY TIME (...your call cannot be completed as dialed...). To fix my network, I had to unplug the TP-LINK router and reboot my 2-Wire router. So either I received a defecting TP-LINK router, or this thing must me configured as your primary router ONLY, meaning it must be attached directly to your DSL modem. I am returning this router, and ponying up an extra $80 for the ASUS RT-N56U Dual Band Wireless-N Router. I hope this review helps some people avoid the headache of trying to set this router up as an Access Point only.

I bought two of these to replace 2 aging G routers running DD-WRT in a Gateway and Wireless Repeater/Client mode. My existing routers were still working very well but I wanted something with a little more range that could still run DD-WRT in the customized way that I'm running with my existing G setup.These products were not it. I flashed both to DD-WRT but was unimpressed with the range - it was worse than my old G routers. I tried many different things to try to improve the performance, but nothing worked better. You're better off spending a few more dollars on nicer equipment if you're looking for good range. Just not worth the time to even mess with this product.

I would definitely recommend this router to anybody.It is very user friendly and guides you through process of installation.I'm so happy with it and as I was installing it, it taught me all the mistakes I was making and help me correct them.My internet is now running at its full speed as opposed to before that I had the right equipment with the wrong setting (doesn't work that way)

I had hoped I would get long distance signal strength from this router but I can not even get it to connect from my older laptop with built-in Centrino 54mb G. It works fine from my wife's PC which has N adapter and my Samsung TV which also is a N adapter. Therefore I assume it will not support mixed mode even though it is stated on the box.I will be returning this to Amazon.com. This will be the second TP-Link product I have returned in the last 2 weeks. The other so called "high gain" adpapter got weaker signal strength than the built in G adapter. I have an existing TP-Link router that works OK except for dropping connections but wished to have a router I can reach from my shed in the backyard with my laptop or internet radio. I now get a very weak signal.

Was looking for a reasonably priced N router; didn't want the cheapest but didn't want to break the bank. Researched the brand and models and settled on this one for it's price point. I don't recall too much of a hassle setting it up. Have not had any problems with it since I got it and my network is much better having gone from G to N. I'm very satisfied with this product.

As the owner of established RF and Antenna engineering and testing companies, I can confidently say that the TP-Link WR1043ND router proved inferior to 6 or 7 other routers we had around, none of which are premium brands or models. That includes using various high gain directional and omnidirectional 2.4 GHz ISM band antennas with the TP-Link router. The range was embarrassing, and throughput was at best 7 Mbps when physically right next to the antennas even though the the connection when wired to the router was > 25 Mbps up or down. A few feet away 1 Mbps and below were noted. Stay away from this one. Either TP-Link ships marginal units, or the design is badly flawed. We have since given the router away.

This was a fantastic router when I got it in November 2011, but now in May 2012, my network is dead every day when I get home from work, and I'm forced to reboot the router. I've updated to the a newer version of the firmware, but the problem remains. I've been searching for a solution, but so far, I've been unable to find one.The performance, other than the stability problems, has been impressive. Download speeds and physical range are both terrific.They have 24 hour support, which is great, and there's a two-year warranty, so if I can't get this fixed, I'm hoping to get it replaced with a better unit. Hopefully, this one is simply defective.

I received this in the mail today and upgraded to the newest firmware. Wired gigabit seems to achieve normal speeds (20Mbps through Comcast), but wireless is unstable and can barely manage 0.5Mbps. I tried adjusting wireless settings, but nothing helped. I am in IT and regularly configure wireless networks, so I know what I am doing. I narrowed my options down to this and the ASUS RT-N16, so I guess I will try that instead. I wish I could find a gigabit router as reliable as my WRT54G.

Put DD-WRT on this router as soon as I got it, and it worked great, but then I started to notice that every once in a while, the wireless would slow down to 1-2 Mbps. I had the router sitting on top of my cable modem, and when I picked it up, it was extremely hot. I built a little stand to give it some breathing room, and now it stays much cooler and the wireless speed has stayed consistently high since then.

I bought it several days ago, and this router just work well for about 2 days, then down my Internet access about once a day, when that happen, I will use a cable to connect to my computer, thus, I will see what happen next, if it still work like that bad, I will replace another brand's router.
