It is a very impressive object!
It is a camera that mostly films, but it does take really good pictures as well.
There are different modes for each setting.It is very easy to use and it
can go anywhere. Say if I wanted to go snowmobiling, motorcycling
or rock climbing ect. You would want a reliable camera that
you don't have to pull it out every other second. Well this
would be your camera it can mount to anything a helmet,
the machine you are using,or whatever you are using.

It shoots film in HD and takes pictures also in HD. It is very easy
to move around. It is very small and compatible. The mounts
will never come off, even if you go for a spill. There are a
lot of camera's out there but if you are in action a lot
this is the camera for you! It is not that expensive considering
what you're getting. This can capture all those awesome priceless
moments! It is a pain to have to take out your camera every
time you see something cool, but the go-pro sees what you see.
They are available in a lot of stores like best buy costco and
a lot more. GO GET YOU ONE TODAY!

Image quality is very good. I wish I could get more than 30 minutes of video out of the battery, I haven't drained one yet, so I don't know exactly how long it will last. I wanted to mount it on my dog, but I have yet to find a platform secure enough to take a watchable video that way.

5 stars because GoPro is a great at what they do, and generally it seems to be the negative people that comment. I've had no problem with mine at all. I typically shoot in 720P 60 fps, that way I can slow down action and its still smooth and clear.

I recommend the 3+ white instead of this one because they finally got the battery life back to where it should be and the added remote control/app function will be SO helpful. Makes learning how to use the camera/angle it so much easier.
Disclaimer: I have yet to buy the 3+ white version, but that will be my next purchase, and I wouldn't hesitate at all to by another GoPro.

Overall, this is still a rock solid camera with great battery life and lots of versatility.

For those that are thrill seekers and want to document all the madness you love to do this is one heck of a gift. Bought it for my brother and he uses it all the time when he's Racing go-carts, cars, even random snap shots of the crazy parties he has. It's awesome!!

I think the "Outdoor Edition" is a bit of a rip-off. I've only used one of the sticky mounts and I've since bought several other mounts and accessories separately. I think unless you want everything included you're better off buying the camera and water-proof casing alone and then adding the accessories you want after-the-fact. Otherwise, I couldn't be happier with the product!

I had purchased the original GoPro HERO camera in 2011. It had audio recording issues and I sent it back to GoPro for repair. The one that was returned to me still had the exact same issue. When they came out with the new HERO2, I just sold the first one and bought this one thinking that perhaps they had refined the microphone. It also has audio recording problems. I have a mount on the roof of my truck for filming scenery at slow speed as we cruise thorough National Parks at park speeds of 35 mph. The audio goes to complete static at anything above 3 mph. I've tried the waterproof case and the open case with no difference. In the one year of use, I've never gotten a single piece of audio that I was able to use. All of the "GoPro Videos of the week" they keep sending my email shows video with great audio in applications far more demanding than mine. I've submitted a "Help" request to GoPro 3 times since June which promise a return contact in 24 to 48 hours. I've never had any reply from them what so ever. Apparently they build shoddy products and then simply ignore you when you have a problem. I guess they have just gotten so big that they don't need to respond to their customers anymore. I'd give it 0 stars if there was an option.

I purchased my GoPro Hero 2 new from Play-It-Again Sports in Wasilla, AK during the month of November 2012. I purchased this camera on the recommendation of a friend who said that the image quality was superior to the ContourHD camera I had been using previously. I tried using the camera a few times in Alaska but never could get it to work. When I got the camera and my motorcycle back to Mississippi I tried to use the camera again with no success. The camera will start recording video and after a few seconds it just stops. The resulting video files on the memory card are corrupted and not usable. I have tried using multiple memory cards of various sizes, classes, and manufacturers without any luck. After installing a firmware update a few days ago I was finally able to get the camera to record one usable 12 minute video. The image quality was great, but, when I tried to record another video a few minutes later the camera failed again. This time it recorded 2 seconds of video and just froze. Couldn't stop recording, change modes, or power down the device. After working on it for a few minutes I gave up and tossed it in my saddle bags. When I got home an hour or so later it was still frozen. I finally pulled the battery out of the camera and put it back in and the camera powered on without issue. I haven't tried to use it again. I have a case started with GoPro support but so far they have not gotten back with me. I got an email saying they are have a larger than average volume of support cases. Imagine that. Going off what GoPro's website says it looks like the best case scenario is I have to pay to ship it to them to be repaired/replaced. If GoPro gets back with me and makes this right then I will update this review. As it stands right now, buyer beware you may have to pay to ship your brand new defective camera to GoPro for repair.

Hello all,

I ordered a Hero2 as I simply can't justtify the $400 for a Hero3+. Got in the mail today, opened it up, all the mounts were there, battery, floaty, BUT NO CAMERA LOL...

Oh well, I guess Amazon Warehouse gets a pass as I order alot from them. Sent it back for a refund and will more than likely order another one once the refund posts...

Ordered the NSSTAR mounts as well & a 32gig card, so guess I will have to wait to use those...

I'd been using a couple tachyons in the past, one I lost in a lake, the second just didn't have the picture quality I wanted, so I decided to try the gopro hero2. (after watching that insanely adrenalizing hero 2 video on youtube :-O)

First thing I'll say is I'm wayyy more happy with the amount of mounting equipment I received with this one. My tachyon(s) both pretty much came with a bracket the camera would clip into, along with some double sided velcro, not very practical imo for anything active.

The hero2 comes with, among other things, a doubled banded head mount (like a headlamp), a bike harness mount, and a bunch of different shaped bases to attach the mount to. (for various curved surfaces) I went ahead and bought a chest harness as well, just the fact that it was available was nice.

As far as video goes, honestly it's a step up from my higher res tachyon, but it still has some of the same issues, sound isn't very good by default (there's a stereo jack for that, but only usable when the camera is not in it's protective housing), and low light shots are grainy. That being said there are more options than I thought there would be, although I was disappointed that this doesn't shoot 1080p x 60fps, max at 1080p is 30fps. You can do 720p x 60, or 900+ (i forget exactly) x 48fps. I'm sure this is mentioned in the product description, so I'm not really mad about this. fyi at all three of those options I got around the same amount of video times with an 8 gig card, about 1hr 15m. I'd say get at least a 16gb if not 32gb if you're planning on shooting for a few hours.

I did a test run walking around the house, "pointing" my head at various objects while saying the name to see if the camera and my head movements were syncing up properly. I noticed when the camera felt centered, all the objects were down and right from where I thought they should be, probably because the lense is up and left from the center of the camera.. But when I took the camera outside and recorded things, everything lined up perfectly, so I'm not really sure this is an issue.

Connecting to the pc was a breeze, I just popped in an sd card, and when I plugged in the camera, it opened in windows explorer pretty much like plugging in a usb drive. This is also how you charge the battery, and I was happy to see the gopro uses usb2 cables, which I have about 10 of. (I hate proprietary cables)

Navigating the menu is a bit tedious with only 2 buttons, but still a step up having that little lcd screen there. There are plenty of options to choose from for all modes i.e. video, single shot, continous stills etc.

After losing a helmet camera already, I was _extremely_ happy to see that the gopro comes with a little rubber safety ring you can install so the camera won't pop off. It already feels _very_ secure, but I'm all about taking every precaution.

One thing I've learned already is to get video as exciting/quality as what you'll see on youtube, you'll need lots of footage, good lighting, and video skills. :) Presentation is everything!

All in all, happy I got it, excited to try it out for future events!

This was my first foray into video cameras. I wanted to make short movies of various scooter rides and other events. As mentioned in other reviews, the product comes with a limited set of extras. I subsequently purchased various RAM mounts, e.g. RAM Mounting Systems RAM-B-149ZU Handlebar Mountto mount the camera on my scooter and for tripod use. I bought the LCD back and the skeleton case for use with a microphone so that I can film my blues band in action. And the charger kit, composite cable, chest harness, extra batteries and SD card. By the time I was done I had doubled the purchase price. Not to mention my computer was too old to support any video editing software. Even Windows Movie Maker hung. I blithely went out and bought a custom, high-falutin', hot-shot computer just for video editing. Cost me another three grand! But, man, it flies!

Pros:
1. Quality is excellent
2. Easy to use on the scooter and with the chest mount
3. I was surprised that the vibration from the scooter was not very noticeable in the final clip. I wondered if the camera removed some of the shake.
4. Small size means easy to carry around which is good as I remove it from the scooter whenever I leave it.
5. GoPro offers free software (Cineform Studio) to convert the files to a useable format.
6. The beeps are loud and very useful.
7. Sound quality is acceptable, depending upon which case is used. The waterproof case is a little quite, but the skeleton cases are fine.

Cons:
1. The fish-eye result is very pronounced. No way to get rid of it. I looked for software to convert it to no avail. I can narrow the field of view to reduce the fish eye look but then I have a reduced field of view!
2. I have to be careful turning it on as it is very easy to skip to the second mode which is still shots. Many a time I thought I was filming a video when I really had just taken a still picture.
3. The front screen is very tiny for my poor old eyes to read. Impossible in sunlight.
4. One has to reset the date and time every time the battery is replaced. It is a pain to do: one has to page through to the Tools section and then page to the Date section and then ... give up.
5. Battery life is uncertain. I have three batteries: one on charge, one in the camera and one ready to go in.I put in a fresh one at the start of each filming session. So far the batteries have held up.

Due to Gopro's extremely poor customer service, I have returned both the Silver and Black edition...GoPro really need to work on their customer service.

When I first got the Silver edition and Black edition, I attempted to copy all the files to my camera's SD card at the root folder, I received the following error message: "The disk in drive E is not formatted. Do you want to format it now? Yes or No. When I say Yes, to format removable disk E, it states "Windows was unable to complete the format."

Also, I called GoPro technical department today at 5:33 Arizona time and the automated system stated my estimated wait time would be 15 minutes with 12 in front of me, then at 5:55 PM their automated system notified me that they were closed. This is unacceptable and extremely poor customer service.

I have found your system-GoPro Hero 3: Silver Edition and Black Edition extremely difficult to download. My issue/problem with copying the update to my SD root has not been resolved since I have called technical support last week and my attempt to reach someone several times.

Gopro is too cheap to provide a user manual for their customers, the customer has to figure out how to download the software, it takes Gopro over 2 1/2 weeks to get back with you to solve my problem. I wasted several hours of my life trying to deal with their technical support and they failed to solve the issue with downloading their software.

Like I said in the beginning...Due to Gopro's extremely poor customer service, I have returned both the Silver and Black edition...GoPro really need to work on their customer service.

This Gopro is great because it has 11mp and is $100 less than the Hero3 which has 12mp. I like how it mounts better (closer to the helmet), and it takes a full size sd card vs. a micro sd. The problem with both gopros is that the power button is exposed and gets bumped, turned on, resulting in a dead battery right when you need it most.

I have a friend who has the "Emerson" one of these and after seeing it I decided I wanted one. However I'm very glad I got the true GoPro and not the knock-off Emerson. The GoPro has been used in the mud, on the water, on all different kinds of mounts, and has held up to everything I've put it through! Great product, highly recommended.

In this case, I found that ins not so convenient to buy an item available in my country becouse after you payed spedition and custom, the cost of all overcome the store selling price. Problem with assistance, becouse imported discurage to repete another time the purcese.

This was a big purchase for me, but I was alright with doing so because of all the hype. It isn't a bad camera, but in my opinion, I should have gotten something else for this price. Video quality is good, but the audio is absolutely horrible.. I tried getting a hold of customer support to see if there was a way to fix it but they never really got back to me on it. You can buy an external mic, but for this price you shouldn't have to. I would recommend looking around first. If all you want is video without audio, then maybe this would work out for you.

I bought this camera specifically for use while I'm scuba diving. The FAQ on the GoPro web site indicates that you might see slight blurring when used underwater as the lens isn't optimal for underwater use. That is a significant understatement. I tried this camera in a clean, clear pool, with plenty of light. The still images are completely un-viewable -- it looks like someone speared something on the lens. The video isn't much better. It's not that there is a good viewing distance. In fact, I took video while swimming at a stationary object starting at 20 ft away. I didn't stop swimming until the camera was almost touching the object. There was never a frame in the video that the object appeared sharp... or even in focus.

It also appears that white balance is off when used under water. In that same clean, clear pool, with plenty of light, I would expect that the images of an object in the water, taken from outside the water should appear to have the same colors as the images of the object taken from under the water. But they don't. It might simply be that the blur affect was causing other distortions...

The fact that I was getting such sharp clear images while using the camera outside the water lead me to believe that reviews I read were over stated. I mean seriously... this camera takes some awesome videos... outside the water. There are videos from this camera on YouTube. When I viewed those videos, I accepted that they were blurry because they were on YouTube... but to see such extreme blur in HD on my 55 inch TV... it was shocking!

Update (12-7-2011): I've purchased the MAKO Flat Lens ($21 + $3 s&h) and installed it according to the instructions. One of the features claimed by the MAKO web site was that it wouldn't cause vignetting in the 1080p video or still images. I re-read the claim... and realized that it doesn't actually claim this for the Hero2 camera. In 1080p video mode and using 11m still images, I do see vignetting. I'm going to try this out in a pool tonight and compare the video quality... and post an update.

About the MAKO Flat Lens: I'm a bit disappointed with the workmanship of this product. The lens is actually created by laminating (gluing) two pieces together -- a flat disk and a machined flange. The lens I got has bubbles and other imperfections between the flange and the disk. Also, after removing the protective film (as directed by the installation instructions), I could see there were already scratches in the protected surface (how is that possible?). I've taken some video using this new lens... For above water video, I think the stock lens is better. I will likely buy an other enclosure to use out of the water.

Update (12-8-2011): OMG! Underwater with the MAKO Flat Lens, the picture is incredible. In my above note about the MAKO Flat Lens, and vignetting... Yes... you do see arches in the 4 corners of the video... and that's disappointing. But the image quality is such that I didn't actually notice the arches until I looked for them. The wide high definition video is so spectacular, I'm willing to loose a little clarity in the corners... It would be awesome to be able to post some actual video in this review...

By Far The Best single use disposable camera i have ever used!

I bought this camera to do a Zombie Mud Run...it worked amazing...great picture and the sound was ok.

Since i don't have a bunch of uses for the camera, i didnt use it again for about 5 months...for my good friends 40th Birthday in Cancun.

My gift to him: I rented a private boat to take us to the reef for snorkeling! My Go Pro Hero2 was going to capture this event for a lifelong amazing memory;)

Before even leaving the US, I plugged in the GoPro over night.
The next morning, the red light was off, indicating a full charge, so i packed it up everything turned off, ready for snorkeling, 2 days later.

Sooo, we get on the boat 2 days later...I set my Go Pro Hero up to capture the boat ride out to the reef and upon turning it on i see a battery life indicator flashing a few times...then nothing. It shuts off.

I tried this a few times, PRAYING that it wasnt so...yes, I am an atheist, searching for god (if your "god" can help someone win a sporting event, im sure he can make my gopro work)...and, nothing.

I've heard of this happening to other people, who would have thought it would happen to me. Maybe I should go to church:(

There is no return or repair policy after 3 months i believe, making this officially, the most expensive single use disposable camera.

I bought this in Dec for a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Used it for the first time, got some great video. Went through two batteries in little over an hour. Didn't use it for 4 months, recharged the batteries, took it on a kayak trip, battery lasted about 1/2 hour...not enough time. Second battery gave me about the same time. Similar problems for the next four times I use it on motorcycles and kayaks. I bought the additional battery pack that is supposed to double the time. Now I can't get the thing to even turn on or charge. GoPro sent me emails, I've done everything they've asked, haven't heard a thing in two days. I need a "POV camera" for a motorcycle trip I'm going to make in a week.

UPDATE: I got an 800 number from REI, even thought I didn't buy the camera there (hooray for REI) and contacted GoPro. Nice young man helped me, ran me through some tests to see what was wrong with camera. Seems to be a faulty battery. They are sending me a free replacement in time for my trip. If you have problems with GoPro, get their 800 number and get it resolved quickly.

I've up the stars to 3 because of the good help. Can't go more since I had to do so much just to get this resolved. Camera does take good pictures though.

What to sey after many time using to many things i will say best first is buld durable ease to use need to improve i se now on my new gopro 3+ black edition.Nice packige nice to use ease and like some small thing like gopro housing is useles maybe for protection noting else.I try to use housing in the water and picture is all blure becouse fish lens.Hard to pres button when is in the housing.All in the packige is items what i did not need and i pay for that,i just need camera ?

yeah we bought this not knowing that the GoPro 3 was coming out in the next few days...Wish I had known. But resale is not an option and planned obsolescence is something that is part of the commercial landscape all over the world. A good camera nonetheless.
