I had this camera, then bought the wifi bacpac and the camera and wifi would not work together. I updated the firmware and it broke the camera. After weeks working with gopro I mailed it to them which they sent me one back. This would not work with the wifi bacpac, it was unable to read the version of firmware on the camera...an hour later of plugging in, cycling the power, reformating my sd card it then deterimined the camera needed a firmware update. I updated the firmware. The bacpac wifi and the camera then worked. I launch my gopro iphone app to try it out and after a while and many app crashes later I realized I had to turn off my cellular data for app to work. i did this..the app stopped crashing but it didn't work either. The app then crashed again. I rebooted my camera and it again does not work. I will be mailing my camera back for a second time. I wished I had never bought this. I am a software programmer that develops mobile applications so I understand how things are supposed to work. Very disappointed. I bought the camera out of state otherwise I would just be returning it to the store.

I really needed another GoPro and I figured since my HERO1 has always worked so well an improved model would be even better, right? Wrong! This camera, for whatever reason, constantly freezes up. I have tried many things to get it to work properly, to include: 1) different SD cards 2) upgraded firmware 3) different battery 4) different settings. Nothing seems to help and no matter what I do it freezes up. I am getting my money back and I guess for now I will just stick with my trusty HERO1. VERY disappointed!

We love it! We wish you sold a underwater light and maybe you will sometime. When we get done editing we will send you a copy of underwater lobster fishing. I also used it flying over the islands and it was great,my hands could be free ,I used the head gear. Having lots of fun. Risky to use it scallop dragging (rocks flying) but we might try it, it might be the end of the camera! we'll let you know.

I had to return my first Gopro that I ordered; unfortunately it had a defective lcd, but Amazon shipped out a new one before they even got the first one back. I didn't know they did that! I had a new one in my hands in like two days.
I haven't yet figured out how to mount mine to my Harley without the vibration making the video almost unwatchable. This isn't an issue isolated to me; it's a Harley thing. Harleys vibrate and the Gopro doesn't have any kind of image stabilization - plus I think that the image being such high resolution might make it even more noticeable. I'll just have to figure it out. I've seen a few really, really good videos from Gopros on Harleys.
I ordered a skeleton case for mine too so that I can plug it in with the mini usb that I usually use for my GPS on my scooter. You might consider that when purchasing. The plug is covered otherwise with the stock case presumably for keeping water and elements out.
It's a lot smaller than I thought from just seeing the ads and the few I've seen in person. It packs a lot of tech in that tiny package. The images are pretty spectacular. This isn't your Iphone's video. I haven't honestly used it yet to do anything more than shoot video on my bike - which as I mentioned isn't turning out all that hot so far, but generally speaking it outshines my previous setup with my Mini DV camcorder on my bike by a wide margin to say the least and I don't feel like I'm destroying my $500 Mini DV camcorder in the process. This is what this thing is made for and it does it very well. If I can just figure out the mounting situation to reduce the vibration - I anticipate some spectacular riding video from my future trips.
I heard after my purchase that they announced a firmware upgrade this summer that will boost the bitrate options to 35mbps and give it 24p capability - FOR FREE! So that it can be integrated into timelines with other cameras easier for multicamera projects. The images that I've seen as demonstrations of the higher bitrate look pretty fantastic! That's higher than my much more expensive Canon HF S20's 24mbps.

Good buy! This is a nice camera that works fine with what I wanted. I give it a 4 because the case is not good underwater. The images are blurred. I had to order another case that would produce better images.

I love these little bad boys! Just like everyone else right? This is my second GoPro, I had the Hero HD and that was awesome. I used that one in a little documentary I produced called "Lono's Bounty" about traditioanl food production and sustainability in Hawaii. I suction cupped that GoPro to a poi pounder's board while he mashed up some taro with a huge stone pounder. That huge rock was smashing right next to the camera, and it didn't phase it a bit. The footage looked cool too. So, when this new Hero 2 came out, I had to buy one, natch! And it is two times a powerful and great and all that. Especially when you load the firmware update. I am using this one in my newest production called "Makua Charley". The movie is about a shape shifter sharkman of Hawaii (say THAT five times fast!). It's a horror movie based on an ancient Hawaiian legend. Anyway, I already used the GOPro to film half naked women swimming aound (with the dive housing, by the way, which I LOVE). And I attached it to a moped for POV shots of a tourist going around the island. Cool. Now I've gotta figure out how to get a real live shark to swim up and bite the camera. That would be awesome.
The only thing that bums me out is as soon a s I bought the Hero 2, they came out with the three and now, I'm like, Ohhhhh. Bummer.Oh well, maybe I'll get one of those for the next movie!

I received the Go Pro Hero camera for a Christmas present from my grandchildren Jake & Jess. I also have a Canon miniDV camera that I have used for many years, taking video of everything from an aerobatic bi-plane ride to biking along the Colorado River. Holding the camera steady while in motion and correct framing is always a challenge. On a recent cruise to Hawaii I used my Go Pro Hero for the first time. For some video I actually used both cameras at the same time so I could compare both. I must have looked silly walking around 10,000 ft. Haleakala Crater filming the sunrise with cameras in both hands. Did I forget to mention there was a steady 40 mph wind and very cold?
I used the LCD BacPac for starters, but once you have the correct setting for video, there is no need for the LCD screen unless you want to frame a particular image. I would recommend using the LCD screen for photos.
Shake and bounce was much less noticable with the Go Pro, eventhough I was holding it in my hands. Next time I will try some of the different mounts (helmet, head and chest straps) and keep my hands free. It's also safer that way!
The Go Pro took better video in lower light situations like walking through shadows or the darker side of craters.
Wind noise always a problem with video was about the same as the Canon miniDV, but according to the instruction book the waterproof housing should help with wind noise. I haven't used it in the water yet.
Likes: Small and easy to use, just set and forget. Excellent video quality. I found a fully charged battery lasted well over 1 hour non-stop record or playback. I haven't had the camera long enough to test the limits yet. Using small SD cards are much easier than carrying miniDV tapes. Cost is comparable to my miniDV camera.
Dislikes: very few, but there is no zoom feature and burning a video to a DVD presents one minor problem, if you record, stop, record, and stop your play back will be in sections and not continuous, so be prepared to get plenty of use with your pause/record buttons on a DVD recorder. The Go Pro is designed and best used to take video for longer stretches of time.
I love the Go Pro Hero and look forward to using it more and more, like on my motorcycle, kayaking and snorkeling. I would deffinately recommend the Go Pro for all your action sports and activities.

I got this camera for Christmas 2012 and just now (Mar. 2013) got around to using it. Well, trying to use it. It locks up randomly when trying to shoot video or connecting to the PC. I have to pull the battery to get it back. I've tried all the recovery methods and nothing has helped. It will work fine for several videos and then lock up, or lock up on the first try after pulling the battery.
Don't count on their unresponsive customer "service" either.
I guess these are great when they work, but beware, you may get paper weight too.

I called customer service, and with a manual firmware update, had the camera operating the way it should have. I am still only giving it 4 stars, because they know they have a problem with the update process and don't seem to care to put a clear acknowledgment and solution on the GoPro site.
The tech support guy was great btw. My original comment about support was directed at the fact that they don't seem to respond to the online help.
Don't count on their unresponsive customer "service" either.

This would have been a great camera. It has some awesome features. However, it rarely works. Often times I will charge it for hours on end, only to unplug it and have it die right away. Sometimes it won't read the memory card. I am disgusted by how much money I spent on a camera that occasionally works. I am on my second GoPro, and working with costumer service to have my 3rd replacement sent out. It seems they keep dragging their feet, make me go through a few days worth of "tests" before they will send out a new one. They usually say, that they have never heard of the problem. However, a quick search will bring up lots of people with the same problem.

I haven't used this product to the full extent. I've only used the video feature twice, and loved it. The only issue is the audio, though poor audio is to be expected with action cameras.
I'm going to be using this in most of my videos, and am going to strap it to a RC quadcopter for many action scenes. I can't wait to use it to its full capabilities.
I recommend it for anyone who are into extreme sports, or just to film POV videos.

Christmas gift for my husband (he's 60) and he loved it. That made me the hero. Men are so hard to buy for. He took it on vacation to Hawaii and he puts it on his motorcycle helmet.

The 1080p30 footage has lots of detail, and you can lower the resolution to 720p60 or 480p120 to increase the frame rate for smoother motion or to convert your video to slow motion. This is the motor edition with more mounts fyi. They are well designed.

Really......with all the Hero 3 problems, like short battery life, upgrades to firmware constantly. Bla,bla, bla.......you can read and see it all here on the big A, or Youtube.
The Hero 2, is just a great camera for the average "ACTION" filmer.
This is #2. I stocked up, because I never don't want to be without my HERO 2!!
Amazon had a better price, and the whole deal was better than I could find on Ebay. Plus there's "shady" people on Ebay these days. So watch out!!!!!!

The review of the camera itself gets 5+ start. It is a great camera, battery life varies on the resolution and framerate. 710x30 yeilds 2 hours while 1080p yields around 1 hour. VGA must be mugh higher but I have not tested it as 720 seems to be a good place to keep it at. Great accessories and the video quality is amazing. Low-light leaves something to be desired but it is not terrible.
As for the packaging...It was in the retail box and included all accessories. However, it was obvious that it had been opened before and was simply re-taped. The contents did not look damaged or used but it did irk me to know that I paid for a new item and did not get a new item. I would rather have gotten it off of e-Bay. It was cheaper on e-bay but I thought I was paying for a guaranteed new item.
-1 star for that but the camera itself is a 5+ star item.

I bought three of the Go Pro Hero 2's for aviation, diving and motorsport apps. They work really well, until they don't. One died after a firmware upgrade at month 6 after probably 15 uses. It received a firmware upgrade, now the camera will freeze completely while cycling modes or power. It is completely inoperative now.
The other two cameras randomly quit working in the middle of filming HD video. We've swapped SD cards and it didn't fix the problem.
Customer support from Go Pro is absolutely terrible. They do not have a method to restore factory defaults and then update to try to troubleshoot the cameras. The company took two weeks to respond to my customer service request to try to troubleshoot the issues with the $950 worth of their camera products I've purchased. Go Pro says they do not have a return policy and would not replace any of the cameras.
The battery life is about 2 hours. If you leave the camera on all day, waiting for the perfect shot, it will probably be dead when you need it.
I strongly recommend reconsidering a Go Pro purchase based on the product performance, the way the company treats its customers and the responsiveness of their customer support. If you use these cameras for business, treat them as disposable, because that is about the best you can expect. I hope they can fix their company, service and the Hero 3.

What a wonderful little camera! Takes amazing pictures whether still or moving. Camera is well made and easy to use. The husband has stuck this to his helmet for speedway racing. I use it riding my horse as a training tool for me.

It seems from all the reviews that for every 10 cameras....more than 1/2 have major issues and seems like you have to be a d*mn rocket scientist just to set it up and figure it out! GoPro has crappy support, no phone support and they have deleted some comments that are negative against their product(because the product is garbage and not working as THEY ADVERTISE it to work)....So....GoPRO.....I refuse to purchase your product FROM ANYONE! Although I have to give cudos to amazon.com since they at least back this product better than the stupid company that produces it!! They will return, replace or refund....PERIOD! GoPro will NOT! ADIOS GOPRO!!!!

When I picked this up I was a little worried about it being the right choice. However now after using it for about 6 months now, I can say that it was well worth the money. I mainly use it for recording my training flights in the Cessna 152 and 172 but I have also used it for recording some pretty sick snowboarding videos. The suction cup swing arm works perfectly for sticking to one of the side windows in the airplane but I did have to buy the skeleton case so I could hook in a microphone for sound. Also for snowboarding I went with the head band mount for capturing my videos, overall though the Motorsport Edition is the best edition to start out with in my mind. Mainly because it come with all of the stuff that someone would need for starting out like the suction cup with swing arm or the various helmet mounts.

We bought this camera to go to Costa Rica. It was definitely worth it!!! I would recommend the outdoor edition to anyone whom spends time outside / doing water sports. This little thing is so awesome! Takes great photos too, super easy to use / set up. Takes wonderful videos. REMEMBER: you must purchase an SD card to use it!!

wont turn on used it about ten times . look on youtube there are way to many problems with the gopro.Says to update but wont work on older software.I Never will recomend this camera to anyone ,stay away!!!

Terrible terrible product. When we got it out of the box we weren't able to turn it back on (although in the user manual it said it was pre-charged). However, I did not worry to much at that point because I though it would only need some charge. The next day I was able to turn it on "for a while", then it went back off on its own and I wasn't able to turn it back on for hours. I had to charge it again before it would come back on, only to go off again after a couple of minutes. So the product is not reliable. I was planning to take it to China this December, but seeing how it goes off on its own, it would really be a bummer if I'm trying to record something and I can't even turn on the camera.
Also, opposed to what the manufacturer claims, it is not compatible with any SD card, the booklet says that the only two things the card needs is to be class 4 or more and be formatted in FAT32 file system, which is not true.I bought the SanDisk Extreme 32 GB SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 SD Card for the camera (needless to say it met both requirements), and whenever I was able to turn the camera on, it said "SD ERROR". Another reason I bought the camera is because I surf and I wanted to take surfing videos, but I read that it has poor quality under water too. I waited for the 2 to come out and i'm glad i did. This is a powerhouse in such a small form factor. Great HD videos and decent still pictures. This was even better as i got the head strap and rode rides at Disneyland. HD Ride POV!
The best tip i can give is to read the how-tos and get extra batteries and memory cards.
I plan on upgrading to the 3 but this served me well.

I was originally going to purchase a Hero 3 but read up on the poor reviews of the software stability. Not at all upset I downgraded to a Hero 2. Still a solid camera and it gets excellent resolution for such a little guy. I use mine for filming my flights and cup it to the side of my windscreen. The in package mount is solid and vibration is minimal even on a rough landing. The wide panorama is a plus. Interface is simple and easy to use; a few clicks of the buttons and you're set. Battery life is great; I've had it last over three hours of continuous recording even on a warm day soaking up the sun. Definitely recommend this camera.

I do a lot of kayaking and like to record my trips and this camera is very easy to use. I had one before and lost it in one of my trips so I wanted to order another one, and it seems the new ones Hero 3 is not really getting good rating, and I have never had any issues with the Hero 2 so was very excited to find one. I also use this camera with the family/vacations when in the water with the kids and they are always excited to see themselves jump in the water and see what they look like when they go under. I recommend this seller and also the product.

This is one of the best advancements in affordable photography in a long time. The camera is easy to use and there are many accessories available to make it a true workhorse of a camera. Amazing quality for the pix and video!

I bought a GoPro because I wanted a simple to use camera for skiing and kayaking trips. The good news is the GoPro is tough and you can take it anywhere -- it doesn't mind rolling in the ocean or spending days out in temps below 10

I was excited to receive my GoPro HD HERO2 (Outdoor Edition) delivery today, so I could take it to the beach
this weekend and play around with it.I took a chance and bought a slightly used unit form Warehouse Deals, Inc. , and when the package arrived today, I was extremely disappointed to find out that the actual GoPro unit was MISSING!! Yep, that's right! The package came with only a few straps, a battery, some mounts, a manual and 3 GoPro decals. Be forewarned that you're taking a chance with their shipping department, because based on my experience and some other reviews, they have some issues with their quality control, at the warehouse.

Got this camera for my cousins fiancee and didnt know whether to spend the money for the Hero 3 or just get this one. After doing some research I found out this one was just as good on paper as the silver edition Hero 3, infact it had more attachments and cost me $100 less! Only minor difference is the size. The Hero 3 was designed to be slightly slimmer.

This camera is designed to be rugged (when encased) and hard to use, and I am a photographer by trade. The button that turns it ON is the same as the button that changes modes. Dumb design. This means you are often taking the time to shift back to "video" or whatever when all you wanted was to turn it on and shoot. This mode shift is not a quick process. Turning it on and off requires a very hard, deliberate push that you have to hold for some time. Often this does not work and again, you end up changing modes instead of turning it off. The record light is on the front and when you go to record, you use the top button that must be pushed exactly right to work. You must turn it on and see your own face first to see if it is going. It did not work for me almost at all, multiple times, and we have missed countless moments because of it. You can not see what you are shooting unless you buy an add-on screen, which we did and it is still a bad product. I am so very disappointed with this camera's design. I wish I had used it enough sooner to get my money back.

I finally got fed up with trying to get a gopro on ebay as I was always outbid. Found this refurbished one on Amazon within my budget. This camera will play a very important purpose. I was the victim of a hit and run driver while riding my bicycle, if I had one of these it would have showed her license tag number, and I could have her charged with attempted murder.

After losing my previous underwater camera, I decided to get a Hero 2 (and a leash so that even if it falls off, I still have it). This camera works great as long as you don't mind the fish-eye view. I've used it diving to depths of 90 feet with the head band. It sees the most use on a jet ski with the stick on attachments. I was a little dubious about how well the stick on clips would hold to the hull of the ski but after 6 months salt water use, there are absolutely no signs of weakness.
The only real issue I found is that it rattles in the case while on the jet ski.

If you're going to buy a small portable camera for motorsports, watersports, partying, whatever. GoPro is it. Seriously.
I don't even need to review this because if you're heard of GoPro, you know they are awesome.
Pros: It's awesome. Great photos, great video, I love the fisheye lens. Sound reproduction is good when using the open back or no back. I use this for motorcycle racing and recording video at raves (amazing by the way).
Cons: Poor low-light visibility, if you have the closed back on the case, sound capture is poor.

I bought this camera for about 5 months ago and I never can use it. It always show error when taking long video record and those moment that captured can't be opened due to file error, it is really2 annoying. first I bought it to go snorkeling. I spent more than an hour to record underwater object and suddenly error came out, only view files can be use. also for underwater camera, it doesn't tell me that it records blurry when underwater with standard casing, I browse the website and they just launch underwater housing for 50 bucks, sucks. Then I claim for it's guaranty, the technician upgrade it's software, they said ok. But after I test it again when I want to use it to go hiking and caving, the error came out again, sucks really2 sucks, I never can use it since I bought this crap. After that, I claimed the guaranty again, they said that they replaced it's mainboard, the seller also tested it again and they said ok, but I just don't want to see that crap again, I told the seller to sell it, and go pro 3 launch, making me more difficult to sell it. I really hate it, spending my money for something I can't use

Keep one with you all the time for use in video recording the days events. I use them while driving my vehicles and riding my bike and motorcycle. You never know what type of event will occur while you are out and about.

Brand new out of box 12/12/12 - charged battery on laptop usb left it on over 6 hours to charge, went to use on ski trip in east coast on 12/15/12, went to start the video at the top of the mountain - 3 red beeps , battery dead !! ARGH .. i have been on go pro page trying to find how to fix , well i set a email to cust service at gopro . and waiting for reply - as i MISS OUT ON 2 MORE DAYS OF SKIIING AND GETTING VIDEO FROM P.O.V. My son bought this to use while motocross riding. He has continued to use for that purpose as well as things like skateboarding and snowboarding. It takes create pictures. The only issue we've had is that once mounted onto his helmet there was a little movement from where the camera connected to the base which would make an annoying noise in the video while riding. This was corrected with a small piece of paper to prevent any movement.....My son just loves the videos he captures!

1. FAT32. Are you kidding me? All videos are cutoff at the 2GB limit, which in full HD, about 5 minutes.
2a. The GoPro battery is impossible to get out with bare hands, you need something to pry it out.
2b. I am SEVERLY disappointed with battery life. I start my bike ride with a full battery, and poof, gone in 20 minutes. WTF?
3. Too often, the GoPro stops recording, just to piss me off. 5 seconds into my ride, almost every time, it shuts off.
3a. Also too often, the GoPro turns itself off.
4. I tried to return it, never answered.
5. It just bricked, won't turn on. Fully loaded battery, plugged into USB, bacpac on backpac off, nothing. Congratulations, you just donated $300+ dollars to another corporation who doesn't give a s*** about its' customers.
I think I'm gonna go get my hammer and find out what thing thing looks like on the inside.

There are far too many lengthy reviews praising and bashing the HERO2. So I'll simply write a handful of interesting things I found out along the way / think are interesting:
- low level lighting (i.e.- dusk) films ok, but comes off as grainy and less then HD-ish.
- Simply plug the card into your PS3 or attach the camera via USB to your PS3 and it reads all the video data with ease.
- Without a view screen your only options are the LCD attachment (about $80) or the WiFi remote through your smart phone (WiFi device is about $40, or WiFi w/ remote runs around $130). The lag time between the WiFi viewable screen is about 4-5 seconds.
- It's a lot easier then you think to rig the camera to a dog.
- Don't throw away the base plate the camera is mounted to when you buy it. It's a god send for mounting the camera to unusual objects.
The only dissappointment I have is the interface. It takes a lot of getting used to (using only two buttons to operate everything). The best work around I've seen is using the WiFi interface and changing your settings via your smart phone.

I ordered a gopro outdoor edition and when I got it it was DOA. That stinks! The issue? I got it all together and pressed the on button and the front LCD blinked once and nothing happened past that. So I trouble shoot. I plug it in thinking, "Maybe the battery is dead even though the manual says it's ok to turn right on." I let it charge up all the way and the same issue happens. It just won't turn on or function. I then call gopro. Their number isn't on their website under support. It is on the "products" page to entice you to order from them. But you can get CS through that. After talking with them they said it sounded like a defective camera. They said that I could ship it to them but since I ordered from Amazon (for buying new I'll always buy from Amazon) I knew I'd be taken care of.
So Amazon customer service is great. They are shipping another overnight (I have prime and originally had next day). No extra charge to credit card, just box this one up and send it back. Amazon provides the shipping label (no cost)! We'll see what the next go pro brings. I'm bummed that it's defective as this is the first electronic that I've ever received DOA. It shouldn't happen but I know it does. I'll change my review once I receive the next unit.

Amazon = It's cheaper all around for me to just order from them via prime. Gas would be more expensive than prime membership + how fast things get to me. I live out in the boonies where not a lot of the stuff I order is readily available.

The hinge part broke after using it 2-3x each time I got a new on and I finally just gave up trying to get a newer housing. I use it every now and then as a regular camera without the housing.
So Amazon customer service is great. They are shipping another overnight (I have prime and originally had next day). No extra charge to credit card, just box this one up and send it back. Amazon provides the shipping label (no cost)! We'll see what the next go pro brings. I'm bummed that it's defective as this is the first electronic that I've ever received DOA.
