Of course almost literally 2 seconds after I bought the Go Pro 2 the Go Pro 3 was unveiled! I used the camera on a recent trip to Nepal and it was spectacular for white water rafting viewing. Not so good for general walking around in the Himalayas as for the action stuff. The camera is not really able to zoom in on the mountains, but it's not made for that after all.
I have been editing out all the "Is the red light on" comments to co-hikers. I wish there was an easier way to make sure the camera is ON. Battery died out a couple times after a short time. Perhaps because I had charged them and didn't use for a while? After I charged over night the next day they worked fine.
I will love this camera when I am out riding my bike in the spring, I'm sure!

This is the 2nd time I've bought this camera. The first time, the camera had all kinds of problems so I returned it (different company) and got my money back. Being that I still wanted the camera, I bought it from this company. The camera was shipped quickly and I followed ALL of the directions as soon as I received it. All to no avail. All the problems that I had with the 1st camera came with the second camera.
1. Would stop taking time lapse pictures after about 100 pictures.
2. A lot of the pictures had purple wide stripes on them rendering them useless.
3. Would not take video in HD.
So there's no way I can give this camera a good rating. Two cameras, BOTH with nothing but problems. The concept is great as are the commercials and videos but for whatever reason, I had the bad luck of getting the 2 cameras that didn't work.
I've sent it off to be repaired (for free!), so hopefully I'll be able to update this review. One suggestion I do have is it might be best to oder this camera from the GoPro site itself. It may be a few more dollars but I'm sure it will be in perfect working conditions.

I have put this camera through the ringer and it still keeps kicking out awesome footage! I love that the outdoor version came with a bunch of different mounts, for fishing and kayaking I mainly use the Headstrap as I really like that angle for fishing. I know that the Hero 3's are out now and the video is a little bit more crisp but the Hero 2's are still amazing and don't shy away from them.

I bought this for my husband as a birthday gift. One of the best gifts that I have ever given him. He has just started racing motocross and he's been taping his practice runs. The video quality is phenomenal. It captures all of the action with such precision. Very much worth the money!

And what it is, is an excellent little camera for under $300. I specifically wanted this to mount to my windshield to capture video of some of the inane things I see on my daily commute. I went for the motorsports edition for the suction cup mount but ended up using a flat adhesive mount because it's much smaller, and sense I mounted it on the windshield, the smaller the obstruction, the better. Also, the adhesive mounts have a quick disconnect so I can take it down when I leave the car.
GoPro Customer service is not too bad either. I noticed a little error that I brought to their attention. 1) For firmware updates to the HD Hero2, you must download their CineForm video editing software. The instruction booklet says to go to [...], but that is either a leftover from the original HD Hero Manual (because it takes you to the firmware updates for the original HD Hero), or they changed procedures after printing the booklets and forgot to update the page.
The only think I could wish for is a mount arm that provides for 360 degree rotation and lock. So far, all their mount arms are 90 degrees and swivel.
GoPro Customer service is not too bad either. Overall, I'm happy. I notice when filming while using the headband mount I have to pan around slowly or the scene is hard to follow - this may have to do with the wide angle viewer. I plan to try the medium angle lens option next time out.

I love the Go Pro. I use it for snowboarding, scuba diving and just shooting cool video. I've even attached it to my dogs back and made a doggie cam. Very durable and the housing is waterproof to at least 60 feet.

I will tryed something diffrents,, as a buyer I want to share my grips as I am sure their are thousands like me who are also interested in just a sharp 170 % motion clear affordable camera. but are dumbfounded by your selling method, on the plus side I get the honor to give you a 1 star as how rateing worked Here is 4 star and up ,the price stay the same, and for a usa design and china made camera that cost about 50 buck the price should come down as I sure you can make it up selling add on, and a lcd display
That should have been on a pro hero 2 299.00 + camera .not to mention another battery if you use the 1080p and get 1 hour record time. the pricing gets me, all I want is the 720 p in the pro hero and of course the English language setting which earlier models should have as standard at 199.00. Out of what 20 diffrents hero packages the one I want is the pro hero 2 naked but at 299.00 I will wait or just go for a good wide angle lens for my camcorder, the most I will spend is 199- 210 as were talking about a camera that china build that wasnt design as lasting for many years, I will advise people to speak up don't roll with the flow,if they wan to play hard ball I will personally write to Sony, cannon, oly,kodak,panasonic,vivatar,sanyo,nikon,etc that look their is a hot selling 170% Len 720-960-1080 p market now that need competition. We need lower prices these aren't fine camera that pp are spending over 500.00 bucks cheap china camera on they leak and wear out and should be priced as such.

As my title, been using this unit for 2months now and the video is great. I have to say it's one of the best compact action video camera out there and very rugged. I love all the mounting options it comes with the package (motor sport) and the overall cool factor of the camera itself. It's like a status-mark to have a gopro.. you might be riding a silly tricycle, but if you have a gopro mounted, you're suddenly cool.
The audio... the built-in mic is terrible. External mic input noise floor is noisy... there's like this pulsing repetitive static noise in the background and unless you have loud audio pushing automatic gain control back, your videos will always have this noise. For the most part, my videos are fairly loud inside the car so I don't hear it too often. Also if i have a lapel mic hooked up and my voice is pushing AGC back it's usually fine. But if I run the camera while the engine is off and I am speaking into the camera taking my time explaining what my next vid is about (or whatever), each time I take a breath I hear the noise.
So I am forced to speak like those people that yak yak yak away without breathing...yah you know who.

My son bought this camera for all of his adventures and it has proven to be a very durable and indestructible camera. It takes great video and high resolution single shots. He has taken it on his mountain bike, on his Jeep crashing through streams and up gnarly mountain roads, he uses a chest harness skiing or a helmet mount. It is a very good camera and puts up with A LOT of abuse!!

I am using this camera to do time-lapse videos (one frame each 30 seconds) of the construction of an addition to my house. It has performed beautifully, making great movies with the included software plus Final Cut Pro X for audio and titles. During the first couple of stages the crew worked only about three hours per day because of the need to wait for county inspections, and all was well. Framing began today, and that was the most important part of the video--walls and roof trusses going up. I did not expect the camera with the auxiliary battery pack ddd to run out of juice after only four hours; I missed the best part of the action, a one-time opportunity. Now I guess I'll have to modify the case to get a USB cord into the auxiliary battery and power it all the time from an auxiliary source like the heavy-duty Mophie, or an AC adapter if possible.

This camera was purchased to mount in a high powered rocket after seeing a similar example used in the Qu8k rocket that went about 120,000' (you can find it in YouTube). On a much smaller scale, I mounted this camera in a high powered rocket loaded with a K class motor and sent it to 7200' where it sustain more than 10g's for a few seconds providing outstanding video footage of the flight. You can find that video on YouTube. Amazon won't permit linking, so it can be found by typing Smedstad + Hearne + Rocket. It is the very same GoPro Hero 2 camera I purchased on Amazon. Video was filmed in HD at 960 x 1040 at a high frame rate, but the camera is capable of even higher resolution with a slightly lower frame rate.
I highly recommend this item.

I bought this camera for a trip to the Caribbean. Since I'm less enthusiastic about the GoPro than other reviewers I'll share my thoughts.
Pros: Good price for the quality. The case is strong and the camera was able to take a beating. The battery lasted longer than expected. All of the on-land, sunny pictures/video came out clear.
Cons: The colors were completely off. I will have to edit everything this camera filmed/shot to correct the color/saturation. Images of trees were muted and the bright blue sky came out gray. Also, I used this camera 1' to 2.5' underwater while snorkeling and the case steamed twice and a small amount of water got inside. This should not happen at such a shallow depth. When going underwater you need to place duct tape around the edges of the case to prevent moisture from getting inside. I did not buy the dive accessory prior to my trip (I didn't know it existed until recently) and all of the videos/shots taken underwater are blurry. If using underwater you need to buy the dive accessory to make your videos/shots usable.
I would buy the GoPro again knowing what I know now. I would purchase more accessories, tape the case, and be prepared for hours of editing.

This camera is awesome and gives you the ability to document activities you otherwise wouldn't be able to. It's fairly simple in execution and the different mounts are easily interchangeable. I recommend this for anyone adventurous who wants a documented record of your experiences.

To get the HD imaging, you have to put the camera in Wide angle, but that results in a serious fish eye effect. It has Medium and Narrow angles but the image degrades significantly in those settings.
Once the camera started beeping and wouldn't stop until I pulled the battery out. Three times it just stopped responding to button push. Again, I had to take the batteries out to reset it. I've only had it a week and haven't done anything really cool with it yet, just messing around.
To do any editing, even just cutting and pasting segments, you have to get expensive video editing software, the software from GoPro does nothing really.
Can't edit the light settings at all, so you get no picture in dark places or at night. Inside is a total waste, the image blows out at every window or fluorescent light.
Cheap if you want to film yourself outside during morning or afternoon doing extreme sports, but not useful for much else.

I will try to keep excessive blabbing and biased perspective out of this review, but I have to say just once that this camera is incredible!
Size: Suprisingly small, the pictures make it look deceptively larger than it is. THis is a +, as you can easily carry it in a coat pocket or bag or whatever, even in its case.
Weight: Extremely lightweight. I was worried about the suction cups on the motorsports package not being able to support a camera, however, once attached, I could not pry the mount or camera off of my car.
Quality: In its highest settings, the quality is excellent. IF YOU PLAN ON SHOOTING ANY HIGH QUALITY VIDEO OR PHOTOS YOU NEED A CLASS 10 MEMORY CARD. I would also recommend getting a 16GB card at the smallest. Memory will go quicker than you expect, remember, its just a memory card. So if shooting things like time lapse, I recommend kicking the quality down a notch to save space. Time lapse photography was excellent. Timed photos the same. This is definately more of a video camera than a photography camera, as there is no view finder or lcd screen (in its basic form) to get a field of view. *MY ONLY COMPLAINT: This camera does not do so well in low light conditions, or in sudden drastic changes of light intensity*

Accessories: The options are near limitless. But dont be afraid to buy other than GoPro attachments. I have a number of third party accessories, and all so far have been on par with the GoPro quality, and are an exact fit.

I have owned pretty much every GoPro cam since they have come out, and this one is absolutely amazing. User interface is the easiest of all the models, and the video quality is STUNNING. I use this cam for mountain biking and snapping photos where a wide-angle lens is highly useful. It takes pictures as good if not better than my high-end SLR camera in some situations. The GoPro is one of the most versatile units out there. I only wish they would take a cue from Contour and redesign the appearance of it to streamline it. I think the look of the GoPro is becoming a bit antiquated. But it gets the job done, does it well, dependably, and the video is smooth as butter..

I have the GoPro HD Hero and it stopped working after I left it charging for quite some time. I did not know at that time that it would have a detrimental effect on it. After that incident, the camera would not even turn on anymore. I used the GoPro to take videos on my DJI Naza quadcopter. It was ok while it worked, so I have to have another sport camera for my quad. I researched the new GoPro HD Hero2 and from what I found out was that it was definitely better that the Hero. I ordered the Hero2 from Amazon and I got it after 5 days with regular shipping. It seemed easier to set up and the colors on the videos I took were better and brighter. I started flying the Hero2 on my quadcopter again and I liked it. If I need very good videos I use my Sony HX9V to take videos on my quadcopter otherwise for regular videos the Hero2 does the job very well. I just hope that this GoPro would not die on me this time around like my first one.
