I took this camera to Hawaii for vacation. I used it mostly for underwater video of the fish while snorkeling. It took really clear and nice video. It is easy to import into the computer. It lasted a long time. We also used in the car to video tape our trip to Hilo. That video turned out just as well. It is kind of hard to use for stills. I eventually got the screen for it to make it easier to take stills.

Love the go pro. I bought the " outdoor edition" which on Amazon said it came with head mount and a few more accessories. I received just the camera. When I asked about it with the shipper. I was informed I was wrong and I purchased just the camera. Which means I can't read English. Amazon advertised it wrong or the sellers did not realize how Amazon described the "outdoor edition" package.

Any outdoors person must have! They are great, easy, and fun to use. I would recommend on getting the LCD screen for the back so you can check your shots and I would also go with the 32gb memory card. Totally worth the money.

I bought this for our son and his outdoor adventures. He has taken it in the pool, down a slowly slope, on the deck of a kayak and on the side of a race car. No misfunctions and great pictures. Clear and top quality. It does take a nearing and keep on "filming". We used it salt water fishing and it got really swamped backing down on a sailfish. It all came out perfect. The Go Pro Hero 3 might be better, but this one is proven and great, just as it is.

I'm glad I got the Hero2. Out of the box was a bit confusing since the instruction does not describe how to install and mount. There are so many bits and pieces to attach (to mount to my windshield) and no instruction on how to do it. I had to go to YouTube and look at how others used theirs and a bit of trial and error finally figured it out. Once attached, instruction on how to use the GoPro2 was easy.
Definitely recommend getting the LCD display.
Video quality is amazing and a blast to watch. It is a real eye opener to see how one drives in a third eye perspective.
With so many crazy drivers on the road, it is an insurance and added peace of mind allowing more than mere words (he/she said) to describe the moment.
I was planning to just use it in the automobile, but now after seeing how it works, I will use it in many more applications ... esp. while traveling overseas.
Definitely recommend getting the LCD display.

I have included a video of footage from this camera to make a point. This is a great camera! Unfortunately, the Amazon footage doesn't do justice to the quality that this camera shoots. (for a little better, search "YouTube for Deal's Gap / Dragon's Tail Run - Entire 11 Miles - GoPro Bumper Camera")
Why did I include the footage then? To prove that this is the perfect camera for motorsports. This camera is mounted 6" above the ground on a small mount thats attached to a non-visible area inside the radiator intake on my bumper. The included mount is removable so only the non-visible sticky mount remains when not in use. I don't know of any other camera that can do that so excellently. I have it tethered to the car in case it falls off, but it never has.
Which brings me to the real point of this camera. Can you get better quality footage? Yes. Can you get smaller cameras? probably. BUT this one is only $300. This camera is great because you don't have to worry when you put this camera in harm's way. That's what it's designed for. 99% of the time, they come back just fine. However, if one gets destroyed, it's much better than your Rebel.
On the Hero 2 vs 1: The differences between this and the Hero1 make this worthwhile. It does get better dark footage, but still don't plan on shooting headlights only. The one time I tried that I could see the road that the headlights hit, other car's taillights and nothing else.
The on-camera interface is improved as well. You can easily navigate through the menus without memorizing a bunch of stuff from the manual.
5/5 stars. Buy one. I'm seriously considering a second.

Right from the box it locked up.
Updated firmware - still locks up
Replaced the SD card with another Sandisk class 10 card - still randomly locks up.
You have to remove the battery to start again - only to randomly lock up.
Don't waste your money on this product - pretty frustrating.

In one word WOW!!!!! Our first purchase of a GoPro Camera and we are thourghly satisfied. Used it in Cozumel without any issues. Picture was great. Easy to use and simple instructions. Buy and extra battery and SD card. Get a 32gig, you won't regret it.

The video that this little guy shoots is fantastic. The still photos are just as incredible... invest a little more and get the view screen for the back of the camera - I think it will be worth it when I get mine.

It's a decent little video camera, but too simple in certain areas and too complicated in others. If you want to get really into it, you're going to have to buy a bunch of little add-ons like an lcd screen for the back, improved water proof case, tripod etc. It gets really expensive and at the end of the day, you still just have a mediocre little camera. Also, you have to travel around with a ton of accessories so it just makes it too much of a hassle to use, when the whole point of it is simplicity. Also, the white balance is terrible. Besides that, shooting 60p is fun and it seems very durable with the skeleton case.

Of course almost literally 2 seconds after I bought the Go Pro 2 the Go Pro 3 was unveiled! I used the camera on a recent trip to Nepal and it was spectacular for white water rafting viewing. Not so good for general walking around in the Himalayas as for the action stuff. The camera is not really able to zoom in on the mountains, but it's not made for that after all.
I have been editing out all the "Is the red light on" comments to co-hikers. I wish there was an easier way to make sure the camera is ON. Battery died out a couple times after a short time. Perhaps because I had charged them and didn't use for a while? After I charged over night the next day they worked fine.
I will love this camera when I am out riding my bike in the spring, I'm sure!

This is the 2nd time I've bought this camera. The first time, the camera had all kinds of problems so I returned it (different company) and got my money back. Being that I still wanted the camera, I bought it from this company. The camera was shipped quickly and I followed ALL of the directions as soon as I received it. All to no avail. All the problems that I had with the 1st camera came with the second camera.
1. Would stop taking time lapse pictures after about 100 pictures.
2. A lot of the pictures had purple wide stripes on them rendering them useless.
3. Would not take video in HD.
So there's no way I can give this camera a good rating. Two cameras, BOTH with nothing but problems. The concept is great as are the commercials and videos but for whatever reason, I had the bad luck of getting the 2 cameras that didn't work.
I've sent it off to be repaired (for free!), so hopefully I'll be able to update this review. One suggestion I do have is it might be best to oder this camera from the GoPro site itself. It may be a few more dollars but I'm sure it will be in perfect working conditions.

I have put this camera through the ringer and it still keeps kicking out awesome footage! I love that the outdoor version came with a bunch of different mounts, for fishing and kayaking I mainly use the Headstrap as I really like that angle for fishing. I know that the Hero 3's are out now and the video is a little bit more crisp but the Hero 2's are still amazing and don't shy away from them.

I bought this for my husband as a birthday gift. One of the best gifts that I have ever given him. He has just started racing motocross and he's been taping his practice runs. The video quality is phenomenal. It captures all of the action with such precision. Very much worth the money!

And what it is, is an excellent little camera for under $300. I specifically wanted this to mount to my windshield to capture video of some of the inane things I see on my daily commute. I went for the motorsports edition for the suction cup mount but ended up using a flat adhesive mount because it's much smaller, and sense I mounted it on the windshield, the smaller the obstruction, the better. Also, the adhesive mounts have a quick disconnect so I can take it down when I leave the car.
GoPro Customer service is not too bad either. I noticed a little error that I brought to their attention. 1) For firmware updates to the HD Hero2, you must download their CineForm video editing software. The instruction booklet says to go to [...], but that is either a leftover from the original HD Hero Manual (because it takes you to the firmware updates for the original HD Hero), or they changed procedures after printing the booklets and forgot to update the page.
The only think I could wish for is a mount arm that provides for 360 degree rotation and lock. So far, all their mount arms are 90 degrees and swivel.

Overall, I'm happy. I notice when filming while using the headband mount I have to pan around slowly or the scene is hard to follow - this may have to do with the wide angle viewer. I plan to try the medium angle lens option next time out.

I love the Go Pro. I use it for snowboarding, scuba diving and just shooting cool video. I've even attached it to my dogs back and made a doggie cam. Very durable and the housing is waterproof to at least 60 feet.

I will tryed something diffrents,, as a buyer I want to share my grips as I am sure their are thousands like me who are also interested in just a sharp 170 % motion clear affordable camera. but are dumbfounded by your selling method, on the plus side I get the honor to give you a 1 star as how rateing worked Here is 4 star and up ,the price stay the same, and for a usa design and china made camera that cost about 50 buck the price should come down as I sure you can make it up selling add on, and a lcd display
That should have been on a pro hero 2 299.00 + camera .not to mention another battery if you use the 1080p and get 1 hour record time. the pricing gets me, all I want is the 720 p in the pro hero and of course the English language setting which earlier models should have as standard at 199.00. Out of what 20 diffrents hero packages the one I want is the pro hero 2 naked but at 299.00 I will wait or just go for a good wide angle lens for my camcorder, the most I will spend is 199- 210 as were talking about a camera that china build that wasnt design as lasting for many years, I will advise people to speak up don't roll with the flow,if they wan to play hard ball I will personally write to Sony, cannon, oly,kodak,panasonic,vivatar,sanyo,nikon,etc that look their is a hot selling 170% Len 720-960-1080 p market now that need competition. We need lower prices these aren't fine camera that pp are spending over 500.00 bucks cheap china camera on they leak and wear out and should be priced as such.

As my title, been using this unit for 2months now and the video is great. I have to say it's one of the best compact action video camera out there and very rugged. I love all the mounting options it comes with the package (motor sport) and the overall cool factor of the camera itself. It's like a status-mark to have a gopro.. you might be riding a silly tricycle, but if you have a gopro mounted, you're suddenly cool.
The audio... the built-in mic is terrible. External mic input noise floor is noisy... there's like this pulsing repetitive static noise in the background and unless you have loud audio pushing automatic gain control back, your videos will always have this noise. For the most part, my videos are fairly loud inside the car so I don't hear it too often. Also if i have a lapel mic hooked up and my voice is pushing AGC back it's usually fine. But if I run the camera while the engine is off and I am speaking into the camera taking my time explaining what my next vid is about (or whatever), each time I take a breath I hear the noise.
So I am forced to speak like those people that yak yak yak away without breathing...yah you know who.

My son bought this camera for all of his adventures and it has proven to be a very durable and indestructible camera. It takes great video and high resolution single shots. He has taken it on his mountain bike, on his Jeep crashing through streams and up gnarly mountain roads, he uses a chest harness skiing or a helmet mount. It is a very good camera and puts up with A LOT of abuse!!
