This is my second GoPro HD Hero2 after I magically lost my first one. Mountain biking in Fruita, CO, I wanted to capture some rear facing video by hanging the GoPro from my seat tube. Couldn't decide which way to hang it so I grabbed a couple of mounts to make it work face up (first mistake). Bombing through some of the downhills, hitting a couple of the jumps, and 'BAM' I hear something come apart behind me. Turn around and the GoPro has scattered itself across the trail. My mounting choice put the camera too far out for the mounts to hold it upright and it eventually was caught and ripped off the bike by the tire. Entirely my fault - 100% no questions asked.
Questioning how one mounts it correctly to the seat tube, I emailed GoPro from their website explaining what happened and asking what I could do to not have it happen again. I didn't ask for any type of replacement parts as it, as mentioned above, was 100% my fault for mounting it incorrectly. Jakob, GoPro support specialist, emailed me back saying to mount the camera upside down to relieve the strain on the mounts and asked me to send in a picture of the damaged/broken parts plus my mailing address. He sent out a replacement mount and a new lens kit for my GoPro at no additional charge to me.
Simple customer service story and he didn't have to offer anything but the advice. But, he turned this GoPro fan into a RAVING GoPro fan!!

The mounts supplied with the camera are insufficient to safely and securely mount the camera.
I carefully prepped and cleaned my smooth and flat surface. I mean REALLY cleaned it. And I dried it. And I cleaned and dried it again. I mounted the adhesive mount, pressed it on with all my significant weight, and I let it set a good 18 hours.
3 turns on my snowboard was all it took for the mount to fail and the camera to disappear to who knows where. No crashes, no bumps, no impacts, just 3 turns and this very expensive camera AND the 32GB class 10 card I had in it were gone, never to be seen again.
Although advertised as an active sport camera, the mounts are obviously not up to task. if you want this camera (or the hero3), don't trust the mounts. Treat it with kid gloves, or you too will be lamenting the disappearance of a very expensive toy.

I love this GoPro for its lightweight materials it has. The price was reasonable too. But please note there is no SD card included but I managed to get a 16gb for $7. Great product!

The camera has the ultimate performance for sports and awsome handle with accessories, but hasn't got the best quality. It lacks definition and sharpness, but no other cam has the waterproof, shockproof ability as the gopro

What else is there to say- you see these used on broadcast TV, where they can choose anything regardless of its price. Very durable housing and wonderful video, if you are ok with the wide-view shot offered by the fixed lens. Accessories offered for the Hero2 have dropped in price, due to the introduction of the later versions, making the Hero2 even more attractive, if you need lots of mounts, screens or wifi connectivity.

I use this as my go-everywhere vacation camera. I have no qualms about taking it in the sand and surf at the beach, in the snow while skiing, in the woods camping and hiking, and even strapping it to the top of my car. The head strap is handy when snorkeling, the helmet strap is handy when mountain biking, and the video and image quality is fantastic for the price.
Get the flat-lens dive housing if you're going under water with it though... the curved lens regular housing gives you very foggy results under water.

I have my GoPro attached to my Specialized mountain bike and Trek hybrid with the Tripod mount, articulating arm Pearstone 8.3" (21.1cm) Articulating Israeli Arm, manfrotto nano clamp.Manfrotto 386B Nano Clamp + 1/4-Inch-3/8-Inch Adapter . Great for capturing yourself while biking with extremely unique and cool angles. I use the LCD bacpak with a Hoodman loupe in direct sun to frame my video. I have 3 batteries, so I can easily go 3 hours with continuous LCD on if I choose, but I usually close it after 60 seconds. GoPro is also unobstrusive allowing you very close access to sporting events that larger camcorder or DSLR will not. I like filming extreme sports, skateboarding events in my park, racquetball, even tennis while positioning the camera right through the chain link fence, without having participants distracted by spectators. I filmed the grand slam homerun, and 2 triples at the new Miami Marlins Park on 5/13 while just holding my articulating arm as a mini monopod, not getting in the way of the other fans. I am female and over 50 and the GoPro has kept me very motivated to be outside and extremely active. I'm now looking into jet skiing with my GoPro. GoPro is not just for you young'ins

Great purchase and we are using it for ridiculous movies of ourselves biking. We are off to the beach in a couple of weeks so the sand and surf movies are not far behind. Now I just need to learn to surf.

I bought this camera for filming on my bike and mounted it with the separately sold Handlebar Mount right in the center of the handlebar. The camera is great and fulfilled my expectations, even the photos come out good (which I didn't expect from a video camera and after reading many negative comments on the photo function.) I don't like the Handlebar Mount as it keeps moving no matter how hard I tighten the screws, just read the negative reviews on Amazon about this mount. Anyway, the camera itself deserves five stars.
The test video was shot in Bogota (Colombia) using the Handlebar Mount and recording at 1080p 30fps, then converted to 480p 30fps @4000 kbps for upload on Amazon.
I didn't want to spend extra money on the separately available screen. In order to get my bike computer exactly into the corner of the test video, I had to make a few test recordings which I checked at my computer. In my case that wouldn't justify the purchase of an extra screen.
Battery life is good. I never record more than one hour (@1080p) and the battery status would still show two of three bars. If I ever needed longer battery life, rather than buying an extra battery I would simply connect the camera to a USB charger that runs on 4 AA batteries, since the camera is able to record while being charged over its USB port.

If your not a believer just by watching the advertisements, commercials, and countless hours of you tube videos, then go ahead and purchase one you will NOT be disappointed. I used mine everyday for snowboarding and its honestly the best camera I've ever used especially for how small and compact it is. This price on this is perfect, even though I purchased my Hero 2 on black Friday. I still plan on upgrading to the Hero 3 soon.

I have the first GoPro and this is really a big step up, the resolution is 11MP for stills, as good as done expensive Point and Shoot Cameras, and movies are much more detailed.
There is a learning curve for using just two buttons to control the many functions and menu settings, but you will get used to it by using it.
Battery life not the best, so buy spares if you're doing extended filming.
"Auto Off" on mine was set to 'Never' which you can change. "Never' is OK but if you space out and forget about it the camera stays on and drains battery. Best to set it to One Minute unless you need it to stay powered up for time lapses, which it also does very well.
Quality for the price = this can not be beat.

It is an extreme sports camera with all of the law, very efficient very good image quality, works great in hostile conditions and has only light I imagine details gradually solving iran one is condensation on the lens in wet weather and most importantly how little the battery lasts the rest is the camera I recommend to 1000% for all types of sports and extreme sports if still recommend it more.

I can't really review this camera thoroughly as I only had it a short time. Extras such as water proof case, LCD Screen, Back up battery, expansion battery pack, memory cards, etc.etc cost to much and should be really included in the package. First Time used in the ocean while snorkeling in Port Douglas Australlia. Epic Fail!!!! Camera was soaked in less than 30 seconds and everything was ruined. Can't return it, can't repair it and now I am out almost $500.00 for nothing. GoPro doesn't stand behind there products so beware as they will not warranty damage due to failure of a promise. The water proof case for the camera had no hair or lint or dust or anything to prevent the seal from sealing tight. This was just poor manufacturing and GoPro proves it by not actually gauranteeing it. Buyer beware!!!!

A friend told us to buy Hero2 instead of the Hero3 and he was right! You can get the Hero2 and lots of accessories for the same price as the Hero3 and they're pretty much the same camera. We love ours! Super clear picture!

Bought Hero2 with an assortment of mounts. Used a stick on glue mount to attach it to my helmet, seemed like it was on there really well. Skied for two days at around 20 degrees f., no problems. Went out again in below zero weather, glue failed completely, after 2nd run. Buh bye gopro hero2. If someone picks one of these up on the hill, it must just be too tempting not to steal it....It didn't get returned to lost & found. If I had used the headstrap contraption things would have turned out better, or if I had bought a leash (or made one, they look easy) I would be $300 richer today. DONT TRUST THE GLUE THEY USE, IT FAILS AT LOW TEMPS...Have a backup system.

Whenever I tries to capture video when I cannot double check the mode it is working, it never works as I expected.
If the button pressed too long it flipped to photo shoot mode and capture photo not video when I only can find it after the event happen.
What is the point of having one button do all things when most people would use it as a video camera?
Why gopro doesn't have dedicated video record button?
Now I hate this thing and would not recommend to people.

I purchased the camera in July last year. It worked great until a few days ago. It stopped working and would not turn on. I contacted GoPro and they say there is supposed to be a sticker on the inside of the camera with a serial number. There was no sticker. I purchased from Amazon through a reseller "DBROTH".
I am having problems getting warranty work because of this. The camera appears to be a refurbished. I am trying to work through GoPro... but, my recommendation is to not buy anything from DBROTH. Having second thoughts of buying anything more from Amazon.

Update: My Hero 2 suffered from the firmware failed (Just Google: Hero2 dead)This is yet another reason to be very very careful buying any GoPro for diving. It failed first day out on a diving vacation. "Nice GoPro...real nice....."

Less than 2 weeks after buying the whole kit ($575) GoPro came out with Hero 3. The sales manager at GoPro (Nelson) said Sorry "we did not know until the day before". This stinks of GoPro price gouging customers right up until the last minute. Even Apple doesn't do that!!
So beware GoPro should not be trusted to do the right thing. I found out to my cost that Hero 3 is not compatible with Hero 2, leaving me me some very expensive plastic. Skeevy.....................

I purchased this camera for my husband to use while fishing. Haven't tested it on the water yet, but did take it on our trip to Italy. This little camera is amazing! It is so small and light-weight yet takes excellent pictures and video. Works indoors and out and delivers clear, crisp images in any light.

My GoPRo Hero 2 was used in the rain forest for zip lining, in the pouring rain with an ATV, white water rafting, on a horse back riding trip, and under water to see fish. The GoPro held up under all conditions!

The camera was defective since new. I contact the GoPro customer service and they told me to replace the SD Card for a 32 GB of higher but it never worked. The camera blocks constantly or it stops recording. sometimes doesn't turn on.

I took this with me to the Dominican Republic to go surfing, and got some truly amazing videos. The sticker mounts will not attach very well to a surf board unless you sand off the wax, however.

I honestly wasn't expecting such good quality for the activities I was planning on using it for: EMS, Diving, Shooting, hiking, and play old goofing off having fun. The audio is actually not bad at all even being about 15 feet away form it and it is clear. The video I noticed however is heavily dependent on light, even a little or low light will make the camera capture video or images. However, it extremely low light or dark conditions it will not pick up the surrounding area at all. This is fine as it is not a night camera, but I am still surprised compared to my HP and Canon camera which suck for recording in dark conditions. Pictures you have to be very steady for, sadly I don't have the steadiest of hands, but it does take pretty amazing and clear pictures. Again, it is very light dependent. Sunny conditions got me the most crisp pictures, cloudy as it or miss, but at night it was terrible for picture taking. Still for what this camera is and can do I'm very impressed and happy with my purchase.

I bought this for my husband for our anniversary. He has talked about getting one for quite awhile so I thought, great gift, he'll never guess. So I got the package & he had no idea.... I had bought a mount for it also... the mount came on another day. The mail person had stuffed it in the mailbox & it opened up :( my hubby got the mail.... no suprise for our anniversary :( Oh well, he loves it anyway!

I received this as a Xmas present. It worked for about a week. Then it bricked. I did a search on google for GoPro Hero 2 won't turn on and I found hundreds of sites with hundreds of comments even on You Tube. Check my other reviews and you'll see that I usually give all "5" on my reviews as I'm generous with a decent product at a good price delivered quickly. But I've had so much trouble with this camera I feel the makers of GoPro screwed me!

I took this camera to Hawaii for vacation. I used it mostly for underwater video of the fish while snorkeling. It took really clear and nice video. It is easy to import into the computer. It lasted a long time. We also used in the car to video tape our trip to Hilo. That video turned out just as well. It is kind of hard to use for stills. I eventually got the screen for it to make it easier to take stills.

Love the go pro. I bought the " outdoor edition" which on Amazon said it came with head mount and a few more accessories. I received just the camera. When I asked about it with the shipper. I was informed I was wrong and I purchased just the camera. Which means I can't read English. Amazon advertised it wrong or the sellers did not realize how Amazon described the "outdoor edition" package.

Any outdoors person must have! They are great, easy, and fun to use. I would recommend on getting the LCD screen for the back so you can check your shots and I would also go with the 32gb memory card. Totally worth the money.

I bought this for our son and his outdoor adventures. He has taken it in the pool, down a slowly slope, on the deck of a kayak and on the side of a race car. No misfunctions and great pictures. Clear and top quality. It does take a nearing and keep on "filming". We used it salt water fishing and it got really swamped backing down on a sailfish. It all came out perfect. The Go Pro Hero 3 might be better, but this one is proven and great, just as it is.

I'm glad I got the Hero2. Out of the box was a bit confusing since the instruction does not describe how to install and mount. There are so many bits and pieces to attach (to mount to my windshield) and no instruction on how to do it. I had to go to YouTube and look at how others used theirs and a bit of trial and error finally figured it out. Once attached, instruction on how to use the GoPro2 was easy.
Definitely recommend getting the LCD display.
Video quality is amazing and a blast to watch. It is a real eye opener to see how one drives in a third eye perspective.
With so many crazy drivers on the road, it is an insurance and added peace of mind allowing more than mere words (he/she said) to describe the moment.
I was planning to just use it in the automobile, but now after seeing how it works, I will use it in many more applications ... esp. while traveling overseas.

I have included a video of footage from this camera to make a point. This is a great camera! Unfortunately, the Amazon footage doesn't do justice to the quality that this camera shoots. (for a little better, search "YouTube for Deal's Gap / Dragon's Tail Run - Entire 11 Miles - GoPro Bumper Camera")
Why did I include the footage then? To prove that this is the perfect camera for motorsports. This camera is mounted 6" above the ground on a small mount thats attached to a non-visible area inside the radiator intake on my bumper. The included mount is removable so only the non-visible sticky mount remains when not in use. I don't know of any other camera that can do that so excellently. I have it tethered to the car in case it falls off, but it never has.
Which brings me to the real point of this camera. Can you get better quality footage? Yes. Can you get smaller cameras? probably. BUT this one is only $300. This camera is great because you don't have to worry when you put this camera in harm's way. That's what it's designed for. 99% of the time, they come back just fine. However, if one gets destroyed, it's much better than your Rebel.
On the Hero 2 vs 1: The differences between this and the Hero1 make this worthwhile. It does get better dark footage, but still don't plan on shooting headlights only. The one time I tried that I could see the road that the headlights hit, other car's taillights and nothing else.
The on-camera interface is improved as well. You can easily navigate through the menus without memorizing a bunch of stuff from the manual.

I have included a video of footage from this camera to make a point. This is a great camera! Unfortunately, the Amazon footage doesn't do justice to the quality that this camera shoots. Why did I include the footage then? To prove that this is the perfect camera for motorsports. This camera is mounted 6" above the ground on a small mount thats attached to a non-visible area inside the radiator intake on my bumper. The included mount is removable so only the non-visible sticky mount remains when not in use. I don't know of any other camera that can do that so excellently. I have it tethered to the car in case it falls off, but it never has.
Which brings me to the real point of this camera. Can you get better quality footage? Yes. Can you get smaller cameras? probably. BUT this one is only $300. This camera is great because you don't have to worry when you put this camera in harm's way. That's what it's designed for. 99% of the time, they come back just fine. However, if one gets destroyed, it's much better than your Rebel.

Right from the box it locked up.
Updated firmware - still locks up
Replaced the SD card with another Sandisk class 10 card - still randomly locks up.
You have to remove the battery to start again - only to randomly lock up.
Don't waste your money on this product - pretty frustrating.

In one word WOW!!!!! Our first purchase of a GoPro Camera and we are thourghly satisfied. Used it in Cozumel without any issues. Picture was great. Easy to use and simple instructions. Buy and extra battery and SD card. Get a 32gig, you won't regret it.

The video that this little guy shoots is fantastic. The still photos are just as incredible... invest a little more and get the view screen for the back of the camera - I think it will be worth it when I get mine.

It's a decent little video camera, but too simple in certain areas and too complicated in others. If you want to get really into it, you're going to have to buy a bunch of little add-ons like an lcd screen for the back, improved water proof case, tripod etc. It gets really expensive and at the end of the day, you still just have a mediocre little camera. Also, you have to travel around with a ton of accessories so it just makes it too much of a hassle to use, when the whole point of it is simplicity. Also, the white balance is terrible. Besides that, shooting 60p is fun and it seems very durable with the skeleton case.

Of course almost literally 2 seconds after I bought the Go Pro 2 the Go Pro 3 was unveiled! I used the camera on a recent trip to Nepal and it was spectacular for white water rafting viewing. Not so good for general walking around in the Himalayas as for the action stuff. The camera is not really able to zoom in on the mountains, but it's not made for that after all.
I have been editing out all the "Is the red light on" comments to co-hikers. I wish there was an easier way to make sure the camera is ON. Battery died out a couple times after a short time. Perhaps because I had charged them and didn't use for a while? After I charged over night the next day they worked fine.
I will love this camera when I am out riding my bike in the spring, I'm sure!
