The camera worked fine until I upgraded the software per GoPro's site recommendation. These things "brick" once you do that. Google "gopro freeze after update" to read more but get the word out... DON'T update the software! GoPro won't fix this either so there's a class action law suit started since THEIR software update destroyed the camera's of tens of thousands of people.
UPDATE: Contacted the Better Business Bureau and they got GoPro to send me a new replacement camera . They will replace it no matter how long it has been since you bought it. Too bad it took this much effort but EVERYONE can now get a replacement camera shipped to then free if you ask.

incredible camera! I bought it as a gift and we were shooting volleyball, tennis, ping-pong games since than. All the friends love the videos and it was a hit! Made to be used in all possible situation, very durable. The only drawback is the battery, it runs out quite fast.

Bought the Hero2 for scuba diving. Haven't used it there yet, but figured I'd better test it out on dry land first. Camera setup is really simple, scrolling through the buttons for functions takes a little practice but once you know what each does, it becomes straightforward. Bought the Hero2 in large part because of the multiple mounting systems included, particularly the head mount (for diving and not having my hand(s) occupied). Haed mount is REALLY secure, both in holding the camera and on the head. We'll see how it holds on a wetsuit hood, but my dry-demo seems to be GREAT. Buying the 32-gig memory chip is essential, as video takes up a LOT of memory. Shot about 20+ minutes which used more than a gig of data, so 3+ gigs/hour matches the 8-hour video claim for the Hero2. Download to my PC (using Windows Vista) was easy and straightforward, as was erasing from the chip. For viewing on your TV set, you'll need to buy separately the video/audio cable hookup (check Ebay), but that, too, worked out fine. The view through the lens is rather fish-eye, so you get a LOT of scenery, but the edge distortion is peculiar.

Had to have it. I was going to Hawaii and wanted to capture what I did, and BOY did I! This Little Jewel has many uses, I even captured a Sunrise in slow motion, which translates into a very fast sun rise, SO COOL! You gotta get one, you just gotta!

Bought this a long time ago and it worked great. Lost it while body boarding. Highly recommend using the surf lanyard if you go into any water. Also their software is much better at importing than windows.

The Hero2 was a fun little device. Whether at Burningman or while lobster fishing it worked well. Then I bought the wifi backpack and was in the process of upgrading the camera firmware per the instructions and it failed. Now it's a brick. Apparently, this is a very common problem based upon articles I've read on the web.
I requested service and they had me try a couple of things. After that didn't work they told me that I would need to send it in. They issued me an RMA number and I sent it in from the post office 2 miles from the warehouse you ship them to in Riverside, ca.
That was the last I've heard from them. I've opened another case trying to find out what the status of my repair is.
I emailed the person that gave me the RMA number. No one will respond to my emails.
It's been more than two weeks since I sent it in and have heard nothing from them.
I was considering the Hero3 but based upon this experience, I will pass.
So, in closing, if you don't mess with it, it is a fun camera. If you try and upgrade the firmware and you brick it. Then sit down and wait. They might get back to you someday.

After opening a couple cases asking what happened to my camera I was told that it was shipped back to me on the first. I never received it. A few emails later I was told they were looking for tracking info. A week or so after that I received an email stating that it would arrive today. Looking at the tracking info it showed it was shipped last Friday (the 16th). It arrived today but unfortunately I left for T-giving vacation before it arrived. Hopefully it has the latest firmware installed in it.

It was a great camera for the first few months I had. But then after a while when I switch to photo mode, it froze up and when I turned it off it would still beep. I would recommend this camera but you want to be sure to return it if it has any bugs.but I was too late

When I first got the camera it worked great. loved it, I was excited about the wifi connectivity option. Once I got the Wifi backpack, and did a firmware update I have had a lot more freezes, and the Wifi still doesn't work properly. No live video feed on the app. Gone through several firmware updates with varying degrees of usability. A friend hasn't been able to use his at all since the update.
GoPro needs to fix the firmware so that it works correctly. According to reviews the Hero 3 has the same issues, I will probably replace mine with Sony action cam rather than Hero3.

I am very frustrated over this product, what a let down. From the minute I plugged the thing in, nothing but problems. The first thing the manual does it point you to a firmware update page. You go to the page and it says its for the original hero, not the hero2. Did a little looking around and found the proper download. Install the software and go to do the firmware update, after a minute it says update failed. Tried several time, same result. Pulled battery tried again, nothing. Rebooted computer then ran it again finally it seemed to work.
Finally go to use the device and everything seems OK. Initially tested the 1080p video, I was expecting a little better quality video. Low light had a lot of noise. Next thing I tested was the time laps video. I live in Florida and wanted to capture the sunset. Set it up for a shot every 2 seconds. I let it go, and the red light blinks every 2 seconds as it should. Come back two hours later, red light still blinking every two seconds. I stop the recording and plug it into my computer. Nothing happens, no ding from Windows like you usually get when plugging in a USB device. Try again, nothing. I notice the buttons are no longer working and I cant go through the menus with the USB cable now unplugged. So I pulled the batter and put it back in, reconnected to the computer and it recognizes the device. Pull up the SD card files and there's only 10-15 minute worth of imaged. Needless to say but I was pissed.
Next day try again. Let it go for an hour. Come back, plug it in and same thing. Pull battery, replace, access files and about 10-15min worth of images yet again. So next I pulled the SD card and put it into a SanDisk card reader. I fully formatted (not quick), Fat32. Tried again, same process, same results. At this point I've filed for a replacement from Amazon. Until I get a working unit, I'll leave this review at 1 star.

The gopro 2 is ok but it does not have the wifi connection . Some of the parts are missing but I knew that when I bought it. It will do for now. I would do business with this seller again.

Love it!!!! Best camera i ever had in my life!!!!!!! I do alot of action sports. Dirtbike, Quads, Cars, Streetbike, Hiking, Swimming etc.. I hit a tree with this camera and knocked me off my bike and the camera was still going.

This product is absolutely great! I am very picky when it comes to my camera selection, and so after a couple days of thorough research, I finally bought this camera. I got this camera, a few days later and I could not ask for a better action camera. This a camera is good for almost any outdoor activity I can think of, and has the superb GoPro quality, that the company always makes sure their products have. The mounting brackets, and all of its accessories are easy to install, and so far over the last couple months I have taken it on a wide range of activities from river rafting to long distance biking to sky- diving. Despite constant abuse however this product has not even been fazed, and still operates and and looks like its out of the box. I couldn't have asked for a better, more durable product, and I would recommend this to anyone.

I bought this camera a couple of weeks ago. I must say that I was extremely excited to receive it. However, EVERY single photo I took with this camera was blurry to the point that you couldn't even make out what or who the subject was. For video it was fine, as long as your subjects are up close- if they are a distance away you better count on not seeing them as there is no zoom. I knew this before hand but I still had high expectations due to all the positive reviews I read.
I wanted to get some cool action shots of friends skateboarding and underwater shots. I couldn't do either.
Also, before purchasing this camera I would make sure to buy the add on lcd viewfinder. Trying out the camera meant taking a few shots and video then uploading them to my mac just to see how they turned out. And that is an awful inconvenience.
I have sent this camera back. It didn't meet a single expectation for what it is supposed to do.

I was extremely disappointed in the gopro packaging. It came in a very worn box that appeared to be used. It had rips in the box that were taped. I am happy with the product but do not give it a higher rating because if I pay full price I do not expect to be sent one that looks as if the box has been used.

If you can find a HERO2, keep it! HERO3 is the next version of the GoPro family, but in reality, it sucks. GoPro tried to compensate the market by lowering the price on their HERO3 models, but I didn't bite. Just before HERO3 was introduced, the price for HERO2 dropped dramatically. Most people can find it for under $200. But right after the consumers are starting to report how buggy the HERO3 devices are, the overheating issues, the short battery life, the shutting off by itself just after 10 seconds of use, HERO2 prices shot back up again and retained their status as the version to keep in the GoPro family. I paid $334 for my GoPro HERO2 Outdoor Edition. And I was glad I did. I used it to document myself running my first full LA Marathon in 2013. Here is what I can say in a short and simple description: The quality of this cam is superb, it is light, the battery lasts somewhere around 4 hours. If you're into sport events and want to record your activities, I'd say get it with no hesitation. Stay away from HERO3.

My GF got this for my birthday to capture downhill longboard vids. Quality is decent, the menus are not. They are f****ing awful, forget about changing settings quickly on the go, which should be easy considering it's an action camera. Once you get it functioning, it's quite good, comes with plenty accessories/mounts, and photos look great for such a little and durable camera!
