I have just bought and tried the Elgato Video Capture Device. The installation was easy and it worked excellent and can be recommended. I have about 30 VHS Video cassettes which I am looking forward to get digitalized.

You will note that I am entirely satisfied with my purchase of Elgato Capture device. my old VHS tapes are being transferred in a better resolution than I expected.They can be transferred to IMovie direct but as I am using Final Cut Pro and have to transfer the video data, No problem or loss of resolution is experienced.Thanks { All of my Amazon purchases have been satisfactory].

This product is amazing. I was more than pleasantly surprised to find that it does exactly what it is suppose to do without fail, using a Mac. I did not try it with a PC, to be fair. All my 8mm Video tapes are successfully downloaded to DVD without a single headache. Only issue was actually loading the program to my computer. The instruction was so simple, but not user intuitive, that it took an ah ha moment to figure it out. Just drag it over from one box to the other!!

My review is based on use of this product about 6 times. It was very easy to set up the software, hook up the cables, and use the software.After installation and start-up, the software walks you through the steps to complete your transfer. There are a couple of choices to make as you begin involving aspect ratio and your cable connections. It lets you check that sound and video are coming through and lets you choose an approximate recording time. Then you'll have a single button to start and stop recording, or you can set an option to stop recording after the time interval you selected has passed.For example, if you initially choose from a short list that your recording is about 90 minutes long, when you get to the recording step, the software will allow you to automatically stop after 90 minutes if you choose. At that point in the walk-through, 90 minutes will be the only auto-stop interval given.Your time estimate alone will not limit your recording if your footage runs longer.Once you stop recording, there is a simple trim feature to remove footage from the beginning and end of the recording. This feature can require a steady hand to move a little pointer to just the right place where you want to cut the footage. The software displays the video time the pointer is on to the hundredths of a second, which helps. I have had to use this feature very little since you have such good control over where you start and stop the first time through.The software then finalizes your digital file and gives you an option to start the process again.All in all a very simple solution to recording to your Mac.

This is about as simple and easy as it gets...loaded the sw to my MacBook Pro, connected the VHS player (cheap model) and started the conversion. The Elgato sw could be improved with a few more basic editing options, but in the end that's what I've used iMovie for.The quality is pretty good but you have to remember what you're using for the source. I've had some 15-20 yr old VHS tapes and I'm very pleased with the quality transfer.Glad I bought it.

Works great, I was able to convert all my vhs recordings to dvd videos. It works so well with iMovie so you can edit your movies.

I spent HOURS researching how to transfer my old 8mm tapes to my macbook pro. There are other devices out there but the reviews were very mixed or out of my price range. This could not have been simpler. All I had to do was plug it in and turn on my video camera. The old videos transferred into mp4 files which I can open in imovie if I choose to edit them. I would highly recommend this for the reasonable price and the ability to do the job.

This product is what I was looking for, it perform as advertised, no regrets. MUST buy product. Now I can archive all my video tapes into DVD.

Nothing but great things to say about this!First off, I got the product in just over 24 hours on two-shipping (kudos to Amazon!), next the product is so incredibly simple to use. All you do is connect a VCR to your computer with very simple cords, the footage on the VHS is shown on your screen and you just click record and stop when you're done. From there you can modify it using video software or post to YouTube. Amazingly easy to use, very efficient and such a small price tag for a product that to many will be somewhat of a lifesaver to help keep old footage from VHS tapes that likely are deteriorating. Six-star transaction! Get it!

All the reviews are correct. This thing is super easy to use and is plug n play. However, it does not support streaming video over the internet because it requires you to use their software to access the device. Their software only allows you to capture and save the file to your hard drive after it converts it to the requested format.So, if you want to stream video online, look elsewhere.

I've been looking for a long time for a way to upload videos directly from my Sony Handycam digital video camera to my computer. This is the perfect product. There is no cable by Sony for my specific model of camera and I've been forced to burn dvd's via a dvd player/recorder, then load them onto my computer, then edit them, then burning to a final dvd.However the Elgato Video Capture is perfect, just insert the cd, install the program, and plug in your camera. Works great. I've only done 1 video so far but love it, so much easier.I looked at reviews on here and everything says ANALOG so I was concerned that it would not work with my digital video camera, I contacted Elgato technical support via their website and received a response within 12 hours assuring me that it would work. I ordered it and the second I got it hooked it up and was ready to go.

This product is simple to use and produces great results. I have so far converted about 5 VHS tapes from the 1980's with great results. Yes, the resolution is low but that is the reality when dealing with analog sources. This is one of the most intuitive and simple products to use. If you want to save your old VHS memories for the next century, this is a great product to use. One feature I wish was built in was an automatic VHS to DVD function -- one for simple conversions. But, other than that, a wonderful product!

works awesome. Easy to install and so far so good on my video conversions. Used the s video port, video quality could be better, but that could be the source as well.

I bought this product because I had an aging library of analog video (3/4", VHS, and 8mm) I wanted to archive and edit digitally. I wasn't sure how the thing was going to work, and I was concerned it might take too long to convert or render the analog footage to digital. None of that has been a problem.The hardware device works like a simple plug adapter from male USB to 3 female RCA inputs. You plug the USB connector into your computer and connect the RCA inputs to the analog video and audio outputs on your VCR, deck, or camcorder.The software installs simply and works intuitively. You can see and hear your source video as it comes in. You simply start your tape, rough-cue it to the point you want to start transferring, and click "Start Record." The capture runs in real time, so a one-minute video clip takes one minute to capture. You click "Stop Recording" when you want the clip to end.At this point you can trim the head and tail of your captured clip. You simply click-and-drag the pointer at either end of the progress bar to set your in and out edit points. You can adjust these frame-by-frame if you want to be more precise. When you've set your start and end points, you click "Continue," and the clip is written to a digital file (MPEG-4 by default.)One minute of analog video converts to about a 20MB mp4 file. It only takes a few seconds to write 60 seconds of video. (I have an average older iMac; nothing special.)Software updates are available free and automatically online. I recommend the update, since it allows you adjust the audio levels and the brightness, contrast, saturation, and hue of your video. Captures TV shows, movies from your DVD player, etc. allowing you to store them on your media server. Very easy to use and to set up. Files are high quality H264 Quicktime streams which are easily edited using the Macintosh quicktime player to cut out commercials, etc. They then can be stored on your server for playback with your Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, etc.

I bought this to bring my old VHS home moview onto my IMAC, and I could not be happier. At first glance, on the Amazon website, I just assumed it was a cord with driver software to allow the recording onto the IMAC, I never expected it to be so easy my 7 year old could do it. The most amazing thing that you need to know is that the software that comes with this not only makes it simple to bring the movie in, but converts it automatically to an MP4 which takes up about 1GB of space for a 90 minute home movie. This was an unexpected surprise that I absolutely love! And it has a one touch feature that after you import video allows you to send it directly to Itunes, or YouTube, or even Imovie. This is really an amazing piece of equipment and I have been enjoying it, especially since you can watch your old movies at the same time. You will not be sorry.

I've just received elgato video capture device and I hooked it to my computer, at first it worked with my old 8mm camera and recorded about 13 minutes after that it keeps cutting and asks me to connect the hardware, well its connected already, and it records for 2 or 1 minutes and cuts, but after that it always show that its not connected , any help?

Elgato Video Capture Device (White) Works simple but the 640 X 480 resolution is really poor by todays standards. They need to delete the "high quality" references even by puffery standards, don't make the mistake I did and order without reading the fine print. If they up the resolution they have a fine piece of equipment. UPDATE: FYI I've now tried the device with the SVHS input and it's a major improvement in quality.

The Elgato video capture device digitized our old VHS tapes as advertised. We had a few problems with our degraded tapes, finding a working player (our very old camera playback had too much noise and our TV/VCR did not have output ports). We contacted Elgato support by e-mail about our "NO SIGNAL" error and received a reply in about 10 days. By that time we had solved our connectivity problem by borrowing a working VCR deck with composite output jacks. We also got our old VHS camera to work with S-video output feeding to component leads as a feed to the Elgato. We did not use the Elgato s-video or SCART connections.The Elgato worked well with easy step-by-step instructions. On a few tapes we had "speed" problems (the tape played at about 30% faster than normal), which could be corrected easily with video editing software (imovie).Don't wait too long to digitize your old VHS tapes...they degrade.

This product was easy to install and worked as advertised, it made converting VHS and 8mm to digital extremely easy. This was the second device I tried for the same function and there is no comparison. The first product claimed to work well with MAC but locked up and was returned the same day. This product was purchased on line from Amazon and worked flawlessly. I easily converted the 8mm to iMovie for editing and the VHS tapes were converted to iTunes for viewing on iPod/iPad.I highly recommend this product for use with MACs.

This video converter works great...so far no known glitches with the Mac or any of the devices its been hooked up to (VHS player, Xbox 360). Quality of unit is top notch..worth the extra money compared to the other options.
