I was a bit skeptical after reading some of the reviews, but I took a chance and bought the Elgato Video Capture Device and I have been pleased. Some of my old family VHS tapes were in poor condition, but the transfer was spot on for the quality of video that I transferred.Bonus - I was able to copy the video files from my Mac on to a thumb drive, and load it to the PS3 game console. I now have a back-up of the videos, and a "play - ready" library on the PS3Downside - You can not rename the files after they are copied, so make sure that you label the videos correctly prior to copying. Also, when transferring movies from my camcorder using the S-Cable connection, I did not get any sound. I haven't spent any time on that yet, so it could be an easy fix.

Great product, especially for people who have tons of old HI8 and VHS family movies they want to put on a DVD. Works flawlessly with Mac (and I have OS Lion on my MacBook Pro). The software is about as user-friendly and simple as it gets. When you're done, it asks where you want it (and it will drop it right into imovie, which is exactly what I needed, as I was editing together a family movie with old super-8, VHS, and stills).

This converter is so easy to set up and hook up to your computer. I have been looking and seaching on how to do it on different websites. I came across this one (elgato video converter) and it had what I needed. I am able to connect to my Mac and camcorder and run my videos. It is so exciting! I can also have it sent to my imovie and edit it there. Amazon had the best price and they sent it to me in no time!

I bought Elgato Video Capture to transfer some old Hi8 cassette tapes onto my mac, and it worked like a charm. As long as you don't have too many programs open and you absolutely do not touch the device while it's working (it's pretty sensitive) you should have no problems. If you need to transfer any analog media to digital media, then this is absolutely the program to buy.

I recently received my Elgato video capture device in the mail. I am using it to record some of my video games for the Nintendo Game Cube. The installation was probably the easiest thing I have ever installed into my Mac. It took less then two minutes, after I hooked it up to my game system it literally did the rest. I did however order the extra wires that were recommended but I didn't need them for my game system. Also, if you are thinking of using this to record video games like me you should buy a universal RCA cord because most of those cords comes with an extra video output (which fits into that circle output on the Elgato). This product is perfect!

I've had a pile of VHS tapes stacked up in a closet for years and have been putting off converting them to digital formats thinking that it would be difficult. I finally broke down and bought the Elgato video capture device and regret not doing it sooner.The hardware itself is small and very easy to use. You just plug its RCA cables into the VCR (or whatever output device that you have) in and its USB into you computer.The software works on a Mac, which was a big win for me. The install is easy enough. The interface is a straight-forward wizard-like interface. You first name the video and estimate how long the video will run. Then you verify that you can see the video. Next you verify that you can hear the sound. Finally, you start recording. The recorder has options to automatically stop recording once your estimated time limit has passed (allowing you to walk away and do something else) or you can record forever and choose to manually stop the recording. You can also mute the sound or watch the videos the entire time they are streaming through the recorder.After the recording is done, you can crop the video to just the parts that you want. I did this backwards for the first few videos that I recorded and didn't realize it until I saw that I had empty video files the next day. Be sure to double-check yourself the first few times you use the software to make sure that you are cropping correctly.Overall, I'm very happy with this tool. The few minor annoyances I have are:- It would be nice if the verifying video and sound didn't have to happen every time you record. Once you have a device properly connected and checked, this is just a waste of clicks.- The videos themselves aren't huge on your computer monitor, but I think that this is just a factor of the source of the video being small.Either way, great tool and well worth the $75 I paid for it.

Works great and tons better than Roxio as you can pull video into any editing program! With Roxio capture you are limited to using their software which I have had issues with. Ordered on cyber Monday and received it in time to give the Christmas videos from 1984, all cleaned up!

I purchased this item to transfer VHS to DVD before they can no longer be viewed or get damaged. From opening the product to getting it loaded on my Mac, easy! You capture the video in real time, so a 2 hour tape will record on your computer for 2 hours. The thing I did not know is that to convert the recording over to say iMovie for instance, another 30-45 minutes is needed for the conversion process. Since I just click a button and walk away anyways, this poses no problems. Other than that, I've had no problems with vidoe clarity or choppiness. Any degradation in the quality of the video was because the original itself is either old or damaged. Very glad I purchased this item!

Easy to install, setup, and use. The feature to turn off recording at a specific time is very nice and works well. Transferring video from VHS to a DVD could not have been easier.

I just got this video capture device and tried it on both my PC and iMac. Software hardware installed and setup fine, videos are easily converted BUT the videos are coming out distorted and choppy. The'll play clear for a minute or two and then the video being captured by my computer has breaks, chops, distortions.

Finally, a product to save my old VHS tapes (the small 30 minute size that you put into a cassette adapter), vintage mid-1990's. Using the Elgato Video Capture (easy to install, great instructions) & our old Magnavox VHS player, a fairly capable person can copy the tapes onto an iMac. From there I'm editing them (getting rid of all the boring stuff) on iMovie. If you want, you can upload to YouTube or just view them in Quick Player. Very happy with the Elgato!

This item came when it was supposed to and the packing was great! This device will enable us to transfer tons of memories to dvd.

The product is very easy to work with and has good quality. One area it could be improved would be to allow the working file to be paused and restarted without having to defining a new file name. Other than that, I would highly recommend the product.

I got this device in the mail today and already have videos on youtube. Its setup took around a minute because its basically just plug and play. Plug the A/V Cables into the device ur capturing from and then plug the USB into your Mac. There were only a few tiny problems i noticed before/after using the product.-It only caters to people looking to record off of VCRs and DVD players out of the box. I bought this products because i wanted a capture card that was compatible with my mac. I also only wanted it to record off of gaming systems so the first thing i noticed was that i needed a few cable adapters in order to hook an xbox 360 up to it. (3 sets of 1 male/2 female adapters to be precise) But a trip to bestbuy and $10 later that problem was solved.-The only other problem i had with it was the fact that you can only record in standard def. This again really only goes for gamers looking to record but still it isnt that big of a deal. Gamers would just have to play in standard def. if they wished to record while they played.These were really the only things i noticed that kept me from giving this device a 5 star rating and anyone looking for a simple recording device for their Macs should definitely check this out. The Elgato Video Capture Device was so easy to install. The software loaded flawlessly. I am now enjoying hours of transferring my old family VHS tapes to my computer then editing in iMovie. Wish I bought this years ago.

Good devise for it's intended purpose. However, I wanted to transfer my videos to my Mac and then put them on dvds. The problem is that the dvds will not play on any of my dvd players. I did not notice or see any disclaimer stating that this would be the case. The videos play back on my computer and that is all.

I bought this unit to transfer video from old VHS tapes to my iMac for editing and archiving. It worked as designed, couldn't have been simpler to use and transferred the video footage from the VHS deck to my computer with no problems.

An easy method for converting home videos to a digital format using the camcorder or a vcr. It's so easy I think even my parents could use it.

I was looking for a product to convert my old VHS and VHS-C video tapes. I have tried a product on my PC a couple of years back, but the process of getting the videos loaded and then editting the videos was so difficult that I gave up after converting a few tapes. I have since converted to a MAC and was looking for a product to continue converting the rest of my tapes. I cam across the Gato product and decided to give it a try. I was Shocked how wasy this product was to setup and get going. I literaly had it running in less than five minutes. I copied my entire library of over 50 VHS tapes in less than two weeks. the feature where you could just set it and forget it was awesome. Gato give you the ability to clip the video once the copy is complete. This kept me from having to sit there and monitor the progress of the copy. I would just set it for a longer time than I knew was on the tape and then I would clip the end of the video before saving. I was also amazed how quickly it saved the videos after capture (less than a minute on mose tapes). I would definitely recommend this product to anyone using a MAC.

This device capture the video and audio clearly. This comes with a audio video cord, that was a good surprise.

Prodcut worked perfectly and as advertised for my Mac. I was easily able to convert my old home movies on VHS to digital format.

I bought this software to convert my VHS home movies to DVD as a gift for my parents. It is very easy to use. I had no compatibility uses (which was something I read about in other reviews). I plugged the device in, installed the software on the Mac, and I began converting. It's a slow process, but a much more economical alternative to all these companies who are charging $20 per video conversion.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I have many VHS tapes that are taking up a lot of room and I've always wanted to be able to "re-save" and edit them. The Elgato Video Capture Device is so easy to use and is compatible with my Macbook. I'm not techie at all and I figured it all out with ease. You simply plug in the Elgato Video Capture to your VCR and your computer. After making a short installation, it prompts you to each step. It is so easy! Now I am "capturing" my videos on my computer where I can then edit with iMovie, save on iTunes or even upload to YouTube. Next I'll do it straight from my camcorder. Such a great price from Amazon!! I highly recommend this product.

Honestly, I was put off at first by the steep purchase price. That feeling faded into the distant past once I opened the package, connected the leads between my Sony Hi-8 analog video recorder and my MacBook, and slipped in the CD. I was transferring those old videos to iMovie in under 5 minutes. I've paid less - and got less (a lot less) - for similar products in the past. Elgato's Video Capture gives me seamless setup and operation. I wish everything in the computer world was this easy and worked this well. First rate product...
