It is easy to use and very easy to install. I am using it for my owl webcam which is an analog video camera. I am able to record the live video from an analog video camera to my computer and then directly download it to the you tube with this gadget.

Elgato Video Capture was exactly as described. Extremely easy to install. Followed set-up and was capturing within minutes. Have NOT encounted any drop-outs as a couple of reviewers indicated. Would have liked it to have a resolution higher than 480 X 640, but for $90 you can't go wrong. After capturing, it was easy to edit in I-Movie and then on to I-DVD. Very pleased.

If every computer accessory was this easy to use, life would be good. I opened it, inserted the CD and installed the program. Opened the PDF readme file and it explained everything very clearly. Worked as advertised, I was importing video from my older Sony Digital8 camera into my MacBook in less than 10 minutes. As mentioned, I was importing Digital8 video and it looked great. I am very very pleased with this product!!!

We were able to use the Elgato Video Capture without any problems using our MacBook Pro. We were able to use it easily in both Windows 7 and Apple. The audio recording was more tricky understanding which audio we needed to be on, but think this was a iDVD issue and not to do with the capture device. It met all expectations as described by other reviews and would recommend it for people who have tapes on VHS and want to covert them to DVDs. I had know idea it could be so easy and the price is very reasonable than purchasing a machine to do the same recording.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I just discovered that this product permanently names files!! If you want to cut and edit a one-hour video into two 30 minute ones for example, both the edits will have the same file names when you open them in Quicktime even if you "Save-As" to different names. Horrible!! According to ElGato this is not their fault and they rather easily told me I have to either buy Quicktime Pro or download "Metadata Hootenanny" and manually re-name the 150+ 2-hour files that I have. This will take me weeks. This IS Elgato's screw-up and it should be fixed. Man, what a mistake this software is!!!

Worked like a charm. Ordered it Sunday. Got it Tuesday. Recorded VCR clips onto my Mac in about two hours- most of that time was spent searching through old, unlabeled VCR tapes. Great product.

i got this for my xbox, and i must say that it is a really good capture card. it does NOT record in hd, only 480p. i feel its a little expensive for only recording in 480p but the software is very easy to use, and it is a quality capture card.

This is a good device. The picture capture quality is fairly good. The sound is also very good. I have captured some old digital8 videos with no problems at all.

***I have 2.2 GHz Macbook Pro with 4GB RAMPros:Very easy to set up and use. After installing the software, just hook up whatever it is you need to transfer (VCR, digital camcorder, etc.) and hit record. Couldn't be any simpler.Cons:This thing dropped frames for me over 50% of the time. This caused the audio and video to be out of synch, even for movies as short as 30 minutes. Even after restarting my computer and running no other programs but the elgato software, I'd still get dropped frames. This made the videos (and therefore the device) pretty useless, so I have to give this just two stars.I recommend the Canopus ADVC110. It's more pricey, but definitely worth it if you care about backing up your old home videos.

i recently converted from pc to mac , what a difference for a non tech guy like me. but i needed to convert all my home movies on 8mm camcorder into my mac in itunes file library so i could watch & edit them in i movie as well. nothing i bought worked as stated until i got this elgato unit. you plug it it, load disc & bada bing,bada boom-done. could not be easier - thanks to manufacturer for doing this one right !

This is the best video capture to use for an Apple computer. Very easy installation. Very easy transfer to a computer. Best if used with iMovie on the Mac. I use it to record video from my Xbox 360 and it very useful with very good Non-Hd video capture.

Works great with mac and no problems with resolution or audio. It does exactly what it says it will do.

This product does everything it is supposed to and more. Easy way to convert those old Beta and VHS tapes. Very fun to use and enjoy.

I was very disappointed in this product. I don't know if its any good because it would not load on my new mac with os 10.6 when I finially got to elgato web site where I could ask for support I had to fill out a ticket and was told I would get an answer in about three days so I put it back in the box and returned it the next morning. I really need a capture device to save some old videos and movies but I don't know what to try I may have to buy it again and try againI was pleased with amazons return policy they refunded the full price I will continue to use amazon for holiday purchases

Since I bought Elgato Video Capture Device (White), I have made a few DVDs by transferring old video tapes to digital movie, whole processing were smoothly, much better than I expected. It was my first time purchased item on AMAZON! I have been waiting shipping police change from US only to overseas for a while. I know I made a right decision. Those previous reaches finally paid off. Thanks AMAZON!

This product worked exactly as advertised with no hassles. I needed to capture a video from an old VHS tape recorded in the PAL format. I rented a multi-system VCR from a video store, connected it to this capture device and was capturing the video within minutes. It correctly detected the PAL format and did the capture perfectly. I was expecting this to be a lot harder but was pleasantly surprised.

Where this might not be for pros at video capturing and editing, but for those of us who have old VHS tapes that need just capturing to digital file format, it is a very easy and simple product to use.

This is one of few products that easily does exactly what it says it will. Simple to install and use. Highly recommended.

I'm disapointed that when hooking up the elgato video capture to my Sony 8 AF, tape analogue comcorder & my I Mac computer, I can't get any audio . I only get video. The video quality is good but I'm frustrated I can't get any audio. I'd rate the product higher if it captured audio. I've called elgato customer service several times but they didn't have any useful answers.

I have now spent 30+ hours watching my old 8-mil tapes as they spool onto disk through Elgato. The hardware and software both work flawlessly on my Mac. I am so excited to digitize all those old films for preservation ... Elgato creates MP4 files.The resulting files are giganto: about 1 mb every 10 seconds. But the quality is excellent, with little or no loss in the transfer process.I highly recommend this product.

Elgato is a great capture card for any mac user, the purpose was to record games from my ps3 and those instructions were not available but found out how to do all this on YouTube in a few dais! But once it was working I loved it!

I've recorded about 20 8mm camcorder tapes onto my Mac Mini (1.66ghz cpu, 2gb ram) using this device. My system isn't powerful enough to generate H.264 files, but it produces mpeg4 files that play fine, they just take up about 1gb per hour of video. Video quality is about the same as the original tapes.The software couldn't be simpler - just hit a record button. You can set it to automatically stop recording after 1,2, or 3 hours, in case you are recording overnight. There is a bare bones trim feature that lets you trim off extra video before or after your desired recording.There is an encoding process that occurs when you are ready to save your video. It's very quick. On my relatively low powered Mac it takes about 10 minutes for a 2hr video.My only problem is with dropped frames, which results in choppy video. It happens consistently on the first few seconds of every recording, and occasionally in the middle of a recording. It doesn't happen often, and I can just re-record the choppy scenes, but I don't know why it happens at all. I've asked Elgato on their forum, but no response yet.Overall this has been an easy product to use. If I can figure out how to avoid the dropped frames/choppy video I'd give it 5 stars.Update: I still don't know the reason for the choppiness, but I was able to associate it with unrecorded portions of the 8mm tape. Whenever there is an unrecorded portion of the tape, the video that follows will be choppy for a few seconds. This can be avoided by starting the Elgato recording immediately after the recorded portion of the tape begins to play. This is somewhat annoying if you have multiple recordings on the tape with segments of unrecorded tape in between them. It means essentially that you can't leave the tape unattended while it transfers to the computer. I've raised my rating to 4 stars based on my understanding of this quirk, but I would certainly prefer not having to deal with the choppiness at all.It is possible that Elgato corrected this quirk. I've recorded all my tapes, and therefore haven't used the device in quite a while. There may be an update.

After searching for literally months to find a way to turn old videos into DVDs, I found this. It works where Pinnacle, Ulead and others failed. It is detected by every program I used, Sony Vegas, Corel- all the persnickety ones.It does not improve your video but it gets it from the tape player to the computer every time.

I did not see anywhere on the web site information where this product would only work on the newer Intel Macs. My slightly older G4 Mac, OS X 10.4.11, is not supported by this product. Beware you don't make the same error.
