The issue with the battery going out in the middle of a video recording is not fixed as canon claimed. I had a one with a newer serial number but the recording times were still dismal. Canon should recall this defective item. They don't seems to care about their customers any more. This will be my last Canon product. I have been a loyal Canon fan since the film camera "AE-1". I have bought canon products for the last 30 years over other brands. Not any more.

This camera has great technical features! It takes fantastic features, videos is great. Especially at this price. But the flash pops out of the far left top side and I always have my finger there. I usually have to restart the camera because the flash gets stuck half open due to my finger being in the way. So frustrating. I would have bought a Canon Elph.

Reliable, quick, simple. Lightweight. Pop-up flash. Lots of features for tweakers, but we use this camera set everything to auto and it works just fine. Great for stills and movies.Long-time user of Canon PowerShot cameras. Great optical zoom on this model. Compared to other models and competitor products, selected the SX280 as best-value for the wife to use. Simple operation. Image stabilization (e.g. anti-shake and blur) works better in this model then previous cameras we've used, and certainly better than the iPhone built-in camera.No complaints.

The picture quality is superb, the speed is fantastic. Nothing negative to say about this camera. I am a professional photographer & own many DSLRs but prefer these Canons for traveling. I've owned 6 Elphs, & other series of smaller Canons & this one is phenomenal - gives you the flexibility of aperture priority, shutter priority or just a simple point & shoot auto. Very, very impressed so far but have owned it for only a few days. Wifi is easy to figure out, although not quite as flexible as I would like in my dreams. Would have preferred to post directly from the camera, but it works fine when linked to my iPhone. I have small Canons with16 mp's that just don't cut it in high ISO situations, this one seems to overcome that issue & still delivers excellent resolution at 12.1 Mp's. Lower light shots seem to have far less noise. Overall easy to use, particularly for users upgrading from other Canon point n shoots. Some nice new features that I'm dying to use, but haven't had time yet to try The video I took was striking in its clarity, almost 3D! Oh yeah, the red body is cool too. Just beautiful all the way around.

Pictures and capabilities are very good, Only down side I have is that it is not as user friendly as my Sony, It takes longer to get to the right setting and just to perform other functions. And the position of the dial makes it harder to turn. The 20x zoom is what is so great about this small camera. I don't think the battery life is as long as my Sony either, but it is okay and I got a back-up battery.just in case.

I bought this camera knowing some of the camera's had the video causing the indicator to flash and camera to shut down. Thought the problem would have been worked out but it hasn't, not even with the firmware update. I sent it to Canon Technical Support and it came back "no trouble found". I tested some more and found a SLIGHTLY uncharged battery caused the shutdown. So I charged the battery and it lasted 15 minutes with a good amount of zooming before it shut down. Tried again immediately after and it was down to 7 minutes. Each time turning it back on in normal picture mode the battery indicator showed a full battery. But video time was substantially decreased. Even used different batteries with the same exact result.I've worked with electronics and computers all my life and this just smells of something that they knew about but shipped anyway. I sent it back and spent extra $ and got a Panasonic DMC-ZS30. MUCH better and no known problems.I normally don't rant but this was a waste of my time. Canon actually wanted me to send it back a second time but I just sent it back to Amazon.

I like to be able to carry it in my purse and be ready to take pictures where ever I am. I especially like the 20x zoom. The pictures turn out beautiful.

Picture quality is good, but the design of the camera is bad. The on/off button and the button to take your picture are side by side, I have missed many photos because I set up the shot and hit the off button by mistake. When using the flash, I find that the pop up hits my fingers and disturbs my shot. It is awkward to hold the camera when the flash is in operation.. I have had many Canon camera, including my main camera the 60D, but this camera is awkward, I still haven't found a good way to hold it while taking pictures.

Best camera I've ever owned. I've only owned 3 cameras in my life, all of which we're cheap considering I was young and broke. Only thing that bothers me is the flash that pops up which gets in the way of holding it properly.

Purchased here at amazon.com. The camera was great, but DIED after 4 months. Suddenly it turned off with the lens open and did not turn on again. Have to send for repair to Canon, and obviously it is a pain to ship it, fill forms, bla bla bla.... also, the camera gives battery problems, even if you upgrade the firmware, if you shoot video it will display a battery problem and turn off. AVOID this camera. I am a CANON fan, but this model is TO AVOID.

Just got this camera, loved it, read the reviews about the battery life, tested it, returned it.With a new freshly charged battery, I took a few pics and was about 90 seconds into my first video (medium quality setting) when the "low battery" signal started flashing. WTF?! I went with it and confirmed (twice) that you can actually video for about 20 minutes (with some stops and starts, but 20 min of footage) with the warning light going off the whole time. Then after about 20 min of vid, it dies. Without much real warning, of course, because the warning's been going on for 19 minutes. Then if you switch back to pic mode, it says the battery is full! WTF?! I had this experience two separate days. Given I anticipate traveling with long days of use and limited ability to charge, this is a deal-breaker.Another annoying thing is the auto-adjust of the audio level during video produced some bad results. I was videoing a rock band. When I zoomed in, the mic seemed to zoom in and gave me great sound. When I panned out, the mic did too, dropping the volume in half (cutting the bass entirely) and giving me the noise of all the people around me. Not sure if there's a way to shut off this "feature".I returned it and am going with the Sony WX300, which is known for long battery life (the manual says I can do 80 min of vid).

SX280 has a known problem with battery indicator on this camera, when switching over to video the indicator flashes and then the camera shuts off, I'm only getting 10 seconds of video on a full charge. Canon says it's fixed but it's not, it still does it with the firmware update. If you do buy one and it has this problem, return it immediately, don't wait until the return period is up, I got stuck with it because I didn't test the video until after the return period was over and now I have a sucky camera that cannot be repaired, I believe they have forgotten about all of these and washed their hands of the problem by telling everyone it's fixed, check the Canon Forums, nobody has had theirs repaired, thanks Canon I'll shop elsewhere.

I love this camera. It is my 4th Canon. It takes truly beautiful pictures with ease. The uploading to you phone is a snap! The short video setting is very fun for uploading to social media. Very Happy with it.

I bought this camera without my usual thorough research because I was leaving on a trip and needed a new camera fast. I settled on this one because the price was right and I've always been impressed with my older Canon ELPH series cameras.The 20x zoom is incredible for a point and shoot camera. What's even better is it has superb image stabilization features, so even with this high power zoom, you can capture close-ups from what might seem untenable situations. I was able to nail and Osprey feeding her young high up in a nest. I took the camera from a raft bobbing down the river at the highest zoom setting and the picture is crisp and clear... I was amazed. The sport feature is nice too, capturing multiple frames rapid-fire. I haven't been able to figure out the video feature, yet... not as straightforward... might need to read the manual.The downside... this camera burns through batteries. Be sure to buy extras. You will go through about 2.5 batteries on a 7 day trip of about 320 shots... did I say buy extra batteries?

Great zoom.However the camera was a big disappointment.It has been taken some 100 photos. But now it will only take a single photo on a fully charged battery.I have bought a new battery -to no avail. I have downloaded the firmeware and reinstalled - to no avail.Now the camera is shipped back for replacement.

I like the camera, however if you make a video with the camera the battery will work maybe only for 10 minutes and you're done.

I can't say I wasn't warned. MANY reviews were talking about the low battery warning during video and I've encountered the same problem. I am a professional photographer with a high quality DSLR and am definitely impressed with the image quality of the camera. It delivers far better than I expected from a point and shoot and the zoom range is incredible. But I am sending it in to Canon hoping the video problem can be resolved!

Everyone knows there is a problem with the camcorder part of the camera. However if you use a fresh battery you can do some decent cam cording. Everything else works fine. Good product for the money if you want a pocket size point and shoot. As far as I can determine, the next step up in quality will double the price. However, be aware that there is a considerable learning curve to use various aspects other than auto point and shoot.

Been using this camera for a short while now, including a trip to New York, and I was really looking for something that would have decent color, without having to jump through hoops. What I'm finding is that the camera consistently washes out, overexposes or otherwise produces bland images, particularly outdoors. New York looked like the least exciting city on the planet in my pictures. The color is quite flat on the JPEGs. The zoom is fantastic, but even at its widest angle the color just doesn't do it for me. Tried fiddling with the settings, which are more limited than on some other cameras I've owned, but had no luck.Going to try to sell this one and switch back to the Panasonic Lumix line. Looks like you get what you pay for.

Can't I choose no stars? This camera is a lemon period! Check out Canon's own site. There are 80 plus pages of complaints about this POJ. My own experience was the same as all the complaints and more. My camera will not turn on unless I remove/reinstall the battery. I sent it to canon for warranty and it came back with exactly the same malfunctions. I can't return it because I bought it at Target who has only a 30 day return on cameras. It is amazing they are still pushing this thing. Unknowing people must still be buying it.
