This camera had trouble with focusing. It was on the highest pixels and still was putting out a small, poor quality pictures. I usually love cannon but not this camera. It may have been a defective one. The reviews were all so great....I was hoping I would feel the same way. : (

Canon SX280 HS- I LOVE the picture quality and range!! But the battery life is extremely short <90 photos. And the battery life indicator went from full to empty without warning. I have had the camera less than a week- should I return it and buy the Canon SX 260 HS instead????UPDATE- after reading the Canon Forums & some of your comments I came home and tested my 2 batteries. With the canon battery put into the camera yesterday, and used a bit-- I took an additional 200 pictures (no flash, wifi or gps) and 2 movies that exceeded 30 minutes! And while taking the movies - I tried the zoom and the red battery immediately started blinking. I turned the camera off and back on and the battery was full again. When the battery eventually died after the 30 minutes- I put in my non-canon battery and with no gps or wifi, I took about 180 pictures all with flash and zoom, and I squeezed in a 8 minute movie before it died. So - the issue is not battery life- but the battery indicator. I love the pictures-I've taken- and feel much better about my purchase. Although- this should issue should not be present in a brand new purchase!

I love this camera. Purchased it to replace my Canon 870 IS to use on my first Alaska cruise. The camera worked beautifully. It does use battery life but anticipating short battery life (not really) I had a spare battery to pop in. The only downside (why I rated it 4 Stars rather than 5) is due to the complicated (for me) wifi setup. Maybe I need to read the manual more carefully. However, the camera takes awesome shots and with the 20X optical Zoom, I had great shots of a brown bear and some golden eagles. I am very happy with this camera. Regarding the Canon 870 IS which I had for years, I liked that camera but the zoom was limited and it was an 8 megpixel vs. 12.1 f MPegfor the SX280 HS.

I am going to use my camera to take family pictures and product photos for my home business. I am thrilled with the quality and ease of use. I am not a professional so I can't speak the tech but I need my photos to be in focus and bright and this camera delivers both.

Purchased for my mother-in-law before an Alaska trip. She is very happy with the wireless feature that connects to her tablet and that it takes nice fast, crisp pictures. She was also happy that her camera was taking better photos than DLSRs from the competition that easily cost two to three times as much.This camera lives up to the Canon name and the Digic6 processor does an amazing job. The 20x optical zoom is fast and clear in all conditions. My mother-in-law is a true left handed person, so many cameras would have sensors and the flash covered by her left hand when she holds the camera. This is not an issue with this camera as nothing is in the way of her left hand.Although a concern before purchasing, the battery life turns out to be fine (100 photos and 10 minutes of video), for her use.

I have ordered this camera before actually read that some people have a serious battery issues. So I was nearly ready to cancel my order. Now I am glad that I didn't. I still had to upgrade the firmware, and battery still does not last quite long when recording 1080p@60p (thus 4 stars instead of five), but I think they all are over reacting. I received what I needed - It performs decently for the price, both optically and noise levels, has both nice auto and manual controls, 20x zoom is quite versatile feature to have. Plus it has a really decent video stabilization - very pleasing indeed.

Seems like an upgrade to SX260 with better picture quality and Wi-Fi connectivity in bonus. Bettter picture quality in literal sense! Took some pictures of fall foliage and the image resolutions were crisp. HIGHLY recommended for trips.Reserving one star for the battery life. CANON: PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE BATTERY LIFE ON THIS CAMERA. It dies off quick enough to upset your partner.Only meant for Point-and-Shoot, videos will kill the batteries in no time.

Great zoom images, stabilization works very well, fantastically sharp photos.Upon reflection the video requires more power than can be packed into such a small package, so the battery problem is real if you want to do seriously long videos. I have done some fine video with it. Also seems to be a function of the specific battery. If you want a small camera with great zoom and usable video this is it.

I decided I need to print out the instruction manual. This "purse" camera backs up my DSLR so I am having a little trouble figuring out how to hold it and sharp photos. It really is a great camera though.

This flaw is that you can hear the zoom while shooting videos. I don't know why Canon manages to keep the zoom silent on their cheaper models, but not on this one. I returned the camera for this reason. Otherwise, the pictures were good, but not as outstanding as others have claimed here.

So far, the camera meets all my expectations. The quality of the still pictures is excellent. Probably should get another battery to use as backup but not a problem as yet.

The battery life is awful even with the software update, for example it can't stand an entire day of tourism. I had read great reviews about the picture quality but I was not positively surprised, I expected better... Pictures indoors with lights were pretty bad in the auto mode. The HD recording is great as the slow motion recording, I also like the camera design.

Amazon's service was exceptional as usual and the camera is great as well. If you want a small camera that takes great pictures this is the one. This is our second Canon... We also have a larger canon (Can't remember the model) which proved to be a great camera so we bought this to film our 10 month old. You'll be happy with it.

After 15 months to the day, the screen has large black lines in it. Canon wants $147 to repair or $146 for a refurbished one. I am a light user, no video, and would think this camera would hold up for longer than just over the warranty period. Took great photos when it worked. Not sure what I will do at this point. I may be out the $300.

I have been a long time Cannon camera person and love the pictures I have taken with this camera. Not real hard to use although I probably could do a lot more with it if I read more.

So small and compact.. Picture quality and controls easy to use.Like the zoom lens and large viewing screen. Had Cannon cameras before and had good luck with them. Would recommend it.

The access doors are pretty cheap, but it is a handy camera to use and carry. The internet connection will eat up your battery quickly, but I just use the sd card to transfer photos.

This camera has a major glitch that undermines its otherwise fine features. The battery indicator is misleading about the actual state of charge of the battery, both in still shooting and video. More than once the camera has shut down when the battery indicator showed 2/3 full charge. This has happened after installing the most recent firmware. This glitch effectively significantly shortens the useful life of a battery charge, such that I have found it necessary to carry extra batteries for almost all shooting situations. Even so, I find myself missing shots because the camera begins acting up prematurely. I have contacted Canon and they have dodged my questions about this issue.
