But the camera itself is quite satisfactory. I have an older version of this, and the video on the SX280 is noticeably better. Nice zoom for a compact body, but it really isn't usable beyond 20x, at least without a tripod, so beware. I got it with the Square Trade warranty just in case since the price was reasonable.

This camera is a fundamentally flawed ripoff. I exchanged it twice before realizing I should never do business with Canon ever again. You can't use the video function do to a battery issue, and the firmware update won't fix it. Canon should be ashamed for letting this lemon leave their factory.

Thankfully, I don't use my camera to take videos so I have not run into the issue with the battery indicator. I did update the firmware anyway... and will do so again if they have more updates. I took about 300 photos on one battery and that was when using the zoom extensively... so maybe the firmware update did help a bit.I used the camera for the first time this weekend at the "Tough Mudder" as a spectator. The zoom on this camera was phenomenal and I used it extensively. I had no idea how the pics would turn out because I did not have a tripod and was concerned the zoomed pics would be blurry. I was pleasantly surprised when I downloaded them today and they came out perfectly... all of the pictures did!!! I had some very weird lighting conditions because of being in the mountains on a sunny day and not being able to choose the angle of where I took the pic from... and even those turned out excellent. I took a few pics indoors in low light... and again, the pictures were turned out great.I am pretty much a casual photographer, and this camera is, hands down, the best camera I have ever owned. Absolutely LOVE IT!

My wife wanted a cheap small camera to carry in her purse, she wanted to take pic on her way to work. I checked all the reviews at amazon and other review sites and finally decided on this camera. My wife has loved it. She has taken over 500 pictures in a short period and they all are fantastically clear. The pictures are as clear as some of the more expensive ones. If you get one you will be well satisfied

Absolutely loved this camera - pictures were crisp & clear, but the ultimate deal-breaker was the battery issue that others have mentioned. Last straw was taking a video with what started as a full battery charge (fresh off the charger). Literally, in under 2 minutes, the battery was drained and the indicator was flashing that the battery was almost dead. Come on, Canon, fix this!

I love this camera. I am a huge fan of Canon. I purchased this to replace an old Canon from 2005 with the long range zoom and have not been disappointed. My friends and coworkers are continually surprised with the quality of the pictures and the amazing zoom. It feels very sturdy and better built than lesser model powershots. The image stabilization is amazing even when zooming in low light situations (like the moon) The wifi is tricky to set up, buy extra batteries (you'll need them) and watch the flash popping up (it is in the worse place-right under where you want your finger!) This has made me enjoy taking pictures again!

If you are looking for more than a simple pocket camera but less than an SLR, this is it. Simplicity and unbelievable quality. Yet, has many features (manual mode) to allow you to engage with the camera in a serious way if you wish. Having the only red camera in the crowd has helped when taking group shots - "Look at the Red Camera"....Nicely done Canon!

it is very good camera. good images quality and zoom. even in the indoors. but one thing I dislike is the battery while video recording. you can see some other reviews in the youtube also saying the same.the battery is fully charged but when I record a video and make a zoom while recording the low battery sign starts to flash, and some times turn off the camera. but once you restart the camera or just turn it on again, you'll see the battery indicator says it is fully charged. i think it is a bug in the software of this camera. and the bottom line is if your main usage is pictures I think it is a perfect camera at this price class. but if you want video recording and zooming, this camera will let you down several times.

Takes great pictures. I like the price and design. This is the third one I have owned. I bought and lost the first one on a camping trip. Then I bought a second one out of the classifieds (turned out to be a mistake because there was a scratch on the lense I didn't find until later). This one off Amazon was a perfect replacement and it has performed well this far.

While I haven't explored all the features available on this camera, so far, it has more than met my expectations for a Canon camera. It's easy to use. Only minor negative was getting use to holding it correctly so that when the automatic flash popped up, I didn't have my fingers in the way! Otherwise, I would highly recommend this as a great camera that is easy to use and easy to take anywhere!

Shame on Amazon for continuing to sell this camera that Canon knows does not work. Software battery problem, even after returning the first. Don't buy this camera!

It is the best choice you can have considering the price of this camera. Excellent!The only problem is when you do zoom while recording, the battery life get reduced really fast... It is need to have extra batteries in your pocket!

This is a wonderful camera for the price. I take it hiking or keep it in my purse to snap photos of the every day moments (better photo quality than a phone by far).

Researched and compared many reviews of this and other Canon cameras. For what I need the SX280 gave me the options I wanted. Love the ease of usage , the quality of my pictures, handling of the camera, size of the view screen, but agree that the placement of the flash makes it awkward to hold. I'm always putting my finger in the way!I have always used point and shoot Canon cameras and will continue to do so!

Great optical zoom in a lightweight, compact package. Photos look great. This camera has more settings and features than most novice and intermediate photographers will ever use. The GPS feature is great for remembering exactly where you were when you took your photo. The Canon software and iPhoto will both show your locations on a map. The Wi-Fi function works incredibly well. I have used it with an Android tablet, an iPhone, a Macbook, and Canon Image Gateway and it makes transferring and uploading photos a snap. When you are traveling and want to be able to quickly share your pictures with friends and family, you will love the Wi-Fi feature. This camera is small enough and light enough to slip in your pocket and go. You will want to keep this camera with you all the time for that can't miss photo op. It is so easy to upload and share photos from this camera that you will say goodbye to your cell phone camera.

I bought this camera because my brother used and older version (SX260) during a recent trip. Got to admit I was jealous over the way he was able to bring in the far detail closer than I could with my current point and shot pocket camera. (don't get me wrong I still like my old one because it's great for landscapes!)It took some getting use to because the focus has to take a bit of time to settle on a close up. AND the on/off button is in the WRONG place. Right next to the shoot button.But I am having a fun time brining that deer across the way in closer and being able to count the points on it's rack!I would recommend this to someone seeking a camera that can definitely bring things closer in a good quality photo but do watch out for that on/off button.

The camera has been OK so far. Obviously takes good pictures with the high mega pixels, zoom, etc. A few things are awkward. When you take a picture that requires a flash, the flash pops up automatically near your left finger holding the camera. It also seems to take a while to focus and sometimes you miss the picture or its blurry because it;s still focussing. Hopefully get used too.

The short of it is this is a great compact, point and shoot camera. It's so loaded with features it took quite a bit of time to sort it all out. But it was worth it. I have only taken very few pix and have owned the camera for only two weeks, but I am very satisfied with the results. The build quality of the camera is superb. The controls all work smoothly and battery charged fully in just three to four hours.I am most impressed with the quality of pictures taken in low light with no flash. The detail is well defined, colors balanced, skin tones are natural, all good signs of a top quality lens and light sensing system. One reminder: THIS CAMERA DOES NOT COME WITH ANY INTERNAL MEMORY. YOU MUST BUY A SEPARATE SD MEMORY CARD IN ORDER TO USE THE CAMERA AND TAKE PICTURES. I found this out AFTER I purchased the camera. The Amazon site does not make this clear or the Canon site. So be prepared to buy an SD card if you purchase the SX280. Not a deal breaker, however. Buy the card and enjoy your camera. Well worth the investment.

I bought this camera to keep handy in my car and for kayaking and hiking. I tested the zoom feature and got great detail on leaves at about 100 yards. I like the small size in a camera that still lets me shoot in aperture or shutter priority. My favorite camera is my Canon 60d, a digital SLR, so I want the same quality and similar controls in a compact camera. I read a review that complained about the flash popping the photographer's fingers off the camera, but I was not bothered by the flash. It is on the extreme right (photographer's left side when shooting) of the camera and only takes up about half of the depth of the body. So far, I think this camera is great!

I purchased this Canon camera just before my recent vacation trip to Hawaii. Generally just the auto setting with point and shoot resulted in excellent pictures. The mega zoom shots always worked well with good compensation for the distance without blur or loss of picture quality. I purchased a 32mb memory card that easily held the over 800 plus pictures and video from the trip. A good compact case size; just need to mindful of the position of the pop-up flash when holding the camera. The display screen protector I also purchased was definitely a good idea too. I am very pleased with this camera and it's superb performance.
