The pictures are good but I have had a bit of a problem with the batteries. I bought an extra one so I could carry a spare with me and am very glad I did since "low battery" seems to come up very often!

I'm a Canon guy with two other--DSLR and compact housed in waterproof case for river rafting. My other camera's are dated with limited SD capacity and DSLR that is too big to carry on hikes.. Looked at a lot of compacts with long lens and manual controls. Picked this one because it was Canon and more important made of metal unlike some of many other very plastic camera. The size was nice also with reasonable access to manual controls unlike some of the others that felt just too small.After a month of shooting I'm happy with the results. The long lens is great, shoot some objects over a mile away on hike and came out very good. Images are mostly very good (at least on my Mac 21" screen). Controls are good and access to those is pretty fast. Due to the size some of the control settings are tricky like the mode deal which somehow i seem to engage unwanted setting while making adjustments--got to work on finger skills I guess. Oh yeah, the battery issue--I purchased two extra battery (cheap) and after getting red light warning one day checked Canon site and found firmware update. Haven't had any battery issue since that update. All and all is good camera that fits my hands very well and feels quality like an Iphone 4.. Oh, does seem to focus slowly and I have got a couple of fuzzy pictures where it failed to focus quickly..

Disappointed. Camera battery immediately drains if I use the video feature. Called Canon directly after checking online and seeing that this was a common issue - figured no point in just getting another one from Amazon. Shame on Canon for continuing to sell this given how common this issue is - only option is to send camera back and hope that canon can repair issue, but it sounds like that isn't likely. Steer clear of this model.

This was purchased as a replacement for an S95 that had been stolen. It was a big hit as a gift.Ease of use. Excellent pictures. All the features I was looking for in a camera that she could carry in a purse or pocket.

wow, where do I start?? I love the quality of the photos, the ease of use, the way it fits in my hand, and the zoom is astounding. All in all I am very pleased with this camera. I would highly recommend it.

The camera is great, I personally shoot a Canon 60D, but the range is good. While overseas my girlfriend took a lot of actions shots with kids, as well as scenery photos. The zoom is great, she enjoyed having the capability to get close when she was far away.

We bought this camera just before a trip to Ireland, because we knew we would be hiking in areas that weren't on maps and we thought the GPS feature would be useful for identifying where our photos were taken. I was pleasantly surprised by the picture quality--for a compact point-and-shoot, it does a great job. Some of the built-in effects are fun to play around with, as well. The 'miniature effect' can make landscape shots look like part of a model train set. It's also possible to set discreet mode to continuously take photos while the shutter button is depressed, which is a useful feature (and more versatile than the built-in 'sport' shot mode)Pros:--Great picture quality--Wifi and GPS--Lots of versatility with modes, burst shots, miniature effect, etc.Cons:--*very* limited battery life when shooting videos, even after their recent (May/June 2012) software update. If you plan to shoot videos frequently, or videos over 5 minutes long, don't buy this model. Just don't.--clunky software for connection between camera and computer over wifi--GPS takes a while to connect when shooting pictures, even when GPS logger is on

So...yes....despite many reviews about the battery not lasting as long, being a long and loyal Canon fan, I didn't think it would be all that bad. But YES....it is that bad, especially if you're videotaping anything longer than 5 minutes straight! It was a good thing I purchased 2 extra batteries...and yes I had to use all 3 that day.So that is the only CON: low battery life if using video feature.Otherwise, the camera is awesome!! The picture quality (as well as the video quality), is superb! And I love the fact that it has such a high zoom for a compact built. Even when zoomed maxed out, the picture quality is clear and superb!Now only if Canon can fix the battery usage during video, I would give it a 5 star.

For the money this camera is packed full of features. What I like best is the 20x zoom and the compact size. What I don't like is the battery life and the interface with IOS devices.

I like the camera and the quality of pictures, but if I try to use the video function which is what my husband bought it for me for the battery dies immediately. I cannot get it to correct. I shouldn't have to get it to correct by logging into their website or any other way. I should work when I take it out of the package. Now the batteries are hardly lasting either way. Too bad. I would like it if I could use it without worry.

Superb...best easy to use camera I have ever had. Easy to use...especially for quick transitions between photo mode and video mode by using shutter release button or record button without having to change anything. Can easily focus both photo or video mode without any complicated maneuvering. Honestly, such a great camera!

SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THE BATTERY INDICATOR SHOWING LOW WITH A FULL BATTERY IN VIDEO MODE. I have been stuck with this camera, since it was gifted to me after it was purchased for a month already. When we contacted canon, they advised us to send it for servicing (since it was outside the return window). NO OUT FOR US. SHAME ON YOU CANON FOR NOT OWNING UP TO A MAJOR ISSUE LIKE THIS. RIDICULOUS!

This camera is so nice i love the zoom on it and how good the videos are on it. this feels like your holding somthing good and not just some cheap peace of crap. pictures are really nice as well but video is the best for me. The battery life issue can be fixed with an easy update on cannons website this is great for anyone who wants somthing better then a point and shoot but still cheap i give it 10 out of 5 stars its that good

I needed a small camera that had telescopic feature for a summer cruise this year. Searched the market for the product that fit my needs and this came out the winner. Love all the features and especially like the fact that I can put in my pants pocket. Amazon had the price and package deal. Love this camera.

The camera performs very well in all but one critical area. It EATS batteries! I recommend getting backup batteries. Also you can get a more powerful battery than the one that Canon sells. Check out the Vivitar 1700 mAh NB-6LH replacements. Much more bang for your buck. Otherwise camera itself is excellent.

I bought this camera a month ago, and was just checking about returning it and missed the deadline to return it without $$$ penalty by one day. That sucks and so does this camera. The zoom is great and it takes nice photos once it decides to focus. So if you want to spend $300 for a camera that takes nice pictures go for it. There is a lot of other camera at half that price that take great pictures thou. If you want to take movies with this camera forget it! They come out nice, BUT, you have like 3 minutes of battery life before it dies when you use the video function. I bought an extra battery with this and it doesnt matter which one I use or which charger I use, they both die within 5 minutes of using the video function. Huge flaw in this product. I can't believe it. Its BS. I've had 4 canon powershots before, and not a single one ever had battery life issues. Its not highly unlikely I will buy another Canon. I'm also mad at Amazon wanting to penalize my refund because of one day. That's BS. I ordered the camera before I actually needed it. How was I supposed to know the battery life while making videos was going to be so horrible? I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU BUY THIS CAMERA. Its not worth the price.

I've bought this camera without seeing many reviews or recommendations, but for sre it wasa great deal!The 20x optical zoom is one of the hot features of the camera, and there's no doubt of the lenses quality (it's a Canon)The only concernm (even though I ratted it 5 star, it would be a 4,5 easily) is that the camera isn't the easiest I ever tried, but it isn't any rocket science eitherway.Bottom line: great camera, great price, great zoom and compact shape with good user interface. A must buy for the regular user

I LOVE this camera it takes GREAT pictures for being a small camera! You cannot beat the price for the quality of the product! I dropped my 1st one and the screen got a big crack in the middle of it. It would great still and took great pictures. My son then knocked it over and fell in water so that is the main reason I had to get this one. But I replaced it the next day by buying this one because it is so worth buying and having if you don't want the big heavy Canon. I would really recommend this to anyone who loves taking pictures and wants good quality photography.

Making the assumption that this camera was intended for use by humans, the design falls short in several ways. The power button is immediately adjacent to the shutter button, and nearly the same size and shape. You will turn the camera off when you think you are taking a photo. I guarantee it. Other controls are equally non-intuitive and you will miss pictures as you fumble around with the camera trying to figure out how to configure the flash or make an adjustment. Your hands will obstruct a sensor or the flash - because you have to hold the camera somehow.They got the electronics right, but the human interface is a fail.

The last Canon Powershot that I purchased was the SX260 HS, which I thought was a fantastic secondary camera, to take along with my Canon EOS 60D. It took very good pictures for a small point and shoot camera. The one thing I didn't like was it's slow speed. When Canon announced the update to the SX280 HS, with much faster speed and newer processer DIGIC 6, I thought I would give it a try. I really like the speed, amazingly fast, like using a pro SLR. Like the SX260, the 20x zoom produces very good photos. Of course it isn't as good as my 60D with a 500mm lens, but look at the price difference. For a secondary camera, it is the best camera I have been able to find. When you need a picture and don't have time to change lenses, as a backup it can't be beat. Anything Bad? Yes, battery time. Like the SX260, the SX280 has a short battery life, in fact, even shorter. On a plus side, it uses the same battery as the SX260, so I have extra batteries now. By carrying a spare battery, I haven't had any problem so far. I like this little camera. I do a lot of hiking and bicycling, and this is a great little camera to carry along. The SX280 also comes with GPS and WiFi, but I don't care about either, so turned them off, but they are there if I ever need them. I did a lot of camera research before buying this camera, so was pretty sure of what I was getting.

Excellent picture quality and easy to use.The camera is slightly heavy, and holding it without covering the popup flash is somewhat uncomfortable.Other than that it's a great camera.

I had a SX260 but upgraded to the 280. The battery problem is significant. The camera identifies that the battery is fully drained very quickly after the battery is charged. We bought a new battery, and the same thing happens. We've had this for well under a year. Many other reviewers have posted the same thing. Unfortunately disappointed
