I have the SX230 HS, two iterations back from this one. I was so excited to get it because I am going on a trip and I wanted even better pics than my SX230 takes. There is a problem with that. The pics on my old camera are better! Much better! I particularly enjoy taking pics on old churches and museums in low light. There is a candle symbol on the SX230 menu that takes awesome low light photos. That function is now GONE on the 280. Gone also is the color effects where you could choose only one color to show up in the photo and the rest be black and white. Also on the manual modes, the F stop only goes down to 3.5 and it used to go to 3.1 also for low light photos. And the 280 is BIGGER. All in all, a huge disappointment and downgrade from my old 230.

I really appreciated the easy use of this camera. My prior camera, even though a point and shoot, would disappoint and I would have to fiddle with different settings. Each picture clear and focused. My only criticism is that suddenly the battery failed and pictures for the day were over. Granted, I was on vacation and taking multiple photos and reviewing them, but some warning may have been helpful in my conserving before I got back to recharge for the evening.

excellent camera small and lightweight .fits in my back pocket great pictures only draw back the on off button is to large and too close to the shutter button so instead of taking a picture you turn the camera offthe sx260 was better

It is an excellent camera. Very smart, quick and the pictures are of very good quality. It is easy to operate. I had many cameras from Canon. Clearly this one is the best though more expensive but it worth it.

If you subscribe to Consumer's Reports, check out the December magazine to see how this camera was top rated in the superzoom category. Camera has some very good features and abilities. For best selection always download/read the manual and check out professional camera review sites. Majority of reviews posted here, while helpful, are done by well meaning photo amateurs. Read what the professionals say.

Incredible zoom! The best i've seen in a compact camera. Quality pictures. The only down side is battery life is a bit short apparently due to the zooming in and out so have a spare charged battery with you! And your finger tends to be on top of the flash that wants to pop up so it take a little getting used to having your finger moved over so it doesn't stop the flash from popping up. I'd buy it in a heartbeat and highly recommend it.

Unable to take videos. This is a pervasive problem that Canon hasn't addressed. Ordered the camera and when I received it took some pictures which looked pretty good. Then tried to take a video. Battery and camera shuts down. Promptly returned the camera. Stay away from this camera if taking videos is important to you.

Great camera. Documentation not great. Wi-Fi is a pain in the but despite the assistance of great Tech Support. Great pictures and movies but importing movies is a problem. I have not tried the GPS thus, no comment.

Got this for my wife to replace a broken olympus. GPS tagging location is neat but battery life suffers. WI-FI is useless. lot faster to pull the card and transfer to pc. Flash in a location you would naturally place your other hand.

This camera took great pictures but the battery problems described by other reviewers prompted me to return it and order the 260 which I'm totally pleased with.

The battery problems while shooting video are well documented so I won't bore you with the details. It is enough to say that we tried and failed with this camera twice, and the second camera's sixth digit was a "3". The firmware update (installed as instructed while on the phone with Canon customer support) failed to work both times and the camera continued to shut itself down while in video mode. Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy. I have now returned both cameras and we are looking at another brand. Very dissapointed with canon.

I've owned about 6 Powershots in the past. This one was out of focus for about half the photos and videos from day one. I pre-ordered it from Amazon because I wanted to have it for my vacation in Cancun. But I had to throw away about halve the photos and videos because they were too blurry.I sent the camera in and they just sent me an E-mail that they were going to exchange my "new" hardly used camera with a used one. I called them to complain, but they told me that that's they way they do things. Also, the used camera has the same serial number sequence that has problems. But I'm not supposed to worry because this camera has will have a 3 month warranty.What a rip off. To top it off, the camera is $100 cheaper now, just a few months later.

I've had the SX260 for the last year, but it's lens is scratched, so I bought the SX280. But sadly, I played with if for a few hours and it is clear that the battery issue while taking videos is a fatal flaw with the SX280. Returning it today.

Great size. Great battery life. GREAT zoom lens. Has shutter, aperture, manual mode plus many more. Very fast, great in low light, and video in 1080.

I purchased this camera for a European trip. I was not disappointed, the zoom was better than I hoped for, the pictures beautiful. The reviews warn about short battery life, so, I carried an extra charged battery. The only time I needed to use the extra battery was after recording video for an extended time. Highly recommended!

I just got this but so far I loved it. I took this with my to comiccon. It took great pictures and the zoom was great. Unfortunately, I was really able to test it at a low light setting since I was taking pictures mostly outdoors or a will lit panels. The zoom was really great outside. I saw a few of my favorite actors and I was able to zoom in and get good pictures. I will try to update again on how it works on low light settings.I did have to upgrade the system but it wasnt too difficult if you just go on their website and download the program. I wish my wifi was better to be able to send pictures but it was running so slow that even my phone was taking a while to update things.
