This camera is a toy. It is almost impossible to take pictures with it because for some strange reason, after one shot, the screen shows that the flash is charging... And this does not stop until, out of frustration, you turn off the camera. Don't buy it!

Nice snap and shoot. I don't like the fact that it requires 2 AA batteries. Doesn't have a solid feel to it. It's functional but I wouldn't buy it again.

If anyone is looking for a camera with "DUAL" viewing option, LCD screen as well a PEEP HOLE to view that subject material in bright sunlight, this camera is for you, great price, great camera and great Canon customer service. Everything you want in a point & Shoot pocket camera.

Have really enjoyed using this camera with a compactness which makes it easy to take along. The pictures are great quality and the camera functions well. It's easy to understand how to use it.

Been using Cannon point and shoot cameras for years and can't say enough good things, that is until the 1400. Apparently it doesn't have a way to adjust the colors like on older models. The only setting is one for 'Super Vivid'. So much less control which is not cool. I also miss a quick way to switch shooting modes via the little dial-wheel, but now I must stop and click on the Func button then click around until I find the appropriate setting. Very frustrating compared to earlier models. I'll still give it 2 stars because it's a Cannon and still takes pretty good pictures, just much more frustrating trying to get the right setting.

Just went to a Red Sox game where I was getting flack from others with large cameras. The images mine captured are great. Works great in low light conditions too.This camera was a great value too.It's my "carry everywhere" camera for capturing images.

Great camera, features, performance and price! Love the viewer finder in bright light I can see what I'm shooting, very user friendly controls, love the quick switch from pictures to video with a simple rec. button. The eco-battery saver setting is great got about 25 min HD video and over (80) 16 meg pictures from one charge. Love the AA batteries I use rechargeables, cheap to buy and can get AA batteries anywhere if needed on a trip. The pictures and video are very good.Great Buy!

I bought this on sale but it was still a $70 camera so I thought it would be pretty nice. The last camera I bought was $40 and was much nicer than this one. 80% of the pictures it took came out blurry and it sometimes took 10 to 15 seconds to actually take the shot which sometimes made me miss what I was trying to take a picture of. It has very few settings and its will sit for a few seconds saying its "charging the flash". For how cheaply made this camera is it should have been priced at $20. Highly disappointed with this purchase.

Update 12/24/2013I've had this camera for a couple of months and can now say that this is THE WORST camera I've ever used (and I've been into photography for over 50 years). It just takes a lousy picture - 80% are out of focus indoors or outdoors. Don't waste your money on this camera!I would not normally purchase this level of camera. However, my other camera failed and I needed a "quick and dirty" cheap replacement and it had a viewfinder.(which I find essential for outdoor shooting). As other reviewers have noted; the focus is very soft and the flash takes forever to recharge.I would have rated it 3 stars, however, I also suspect that the camera (Sold on Amazon by Tri State Camera) was an "Open Box" item, as it was not sealed and did not come with a warranty card.

I bought this camera to take pictures of my products so they could be uploaded to my online store, works great. Video is a little grainy in poor lighting though. Heavy for the size, feels durable. I haven't dropped it yet and I don't plan to.

2 years ago my daughter broke my wife's digital camera screen which made it unusable since it didnt have a viewfinder...and its taken me forever to find a good camera with a viewfinder since almost every company has gone without one...well i got news for ya I'm a professional photographer and this thing has really nice quality photos... this made my wife's Christmas the best ever. if you are an old-school point and shoot person that likes a viewfinder...this is the one for you! it doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles but it does the job very very well!

The camera satisfies my needs, is relatively easy to use and light weight.The view finder makes it useful when conditions make the screen difficult to read. The telephoto produces good, crisp images. Learning how to obtain the correct focus took some patience. My needs are simple, so I haven't used all of the features available. I'm not sure how long the batteries will last. Perhaps I should carry a spare pair as a backup. Practice was required before I successfully discovered how to view recorded photos and to transfer them to my computer. The primary reason for purchasing this model was my frustration with the lack of a viewfinder on my Panasonic Lumix. The dials and buttons on the Lumix are more easily disturbed when carried in a pocket. The Lumix is also much heavier. The pictures obtained on both cameras are about the same in quality. I do like the rechargeable battery in the Lumix.

The Canon Powershot A1400 camera I purchased is acceptable for snapshots but I have several low-cost cameras in the past with sharper images.

I couldn't figure out how to change the file size this camera records -- Canon's email customer service had the solution in my inbox in less than 24 hours, on a weekend. This model runs on AA batteries, available anywhere, and has an optical eye-level finder that zooms with the lens. These are features I miss in recent digital cameras, but this one has both. The matte surface and general ergonomic layout make this camera easy to handle. Very glad I came across this one.

Love this little camera...fits nicely in a pocket and with the view finder plus the LCD screen ...just be careful how deep a pocket you put it in because it is so small can get lost down in there.

Camera takes great pictures and I love the AA battery component. Batteries are always available. Camera is very small and pocket sized too. Overall a great value. I bought it as a gift and now I want one for hiking when no charger is available for days.

This is a great little cannon camera. To me the best feature is the view finder. I had a hard time finding a small camera that had this feature. I find it hard to take pictures on sunny days with cameras without a viewfinder. The pictures are of great quality for a point and shoot.

So far it is working great for me.I like that it uses regular batteries that I can carry spares for.I really like the old style viewfinder since I can't see the large preview in outdoor conditions with any camera.Excellent for the relatively low cost.

I bought this to get a more modern powershot that still had a viewfinder. I was hoping to get an upgrade from my 540 and 1000 models. I didn't.This camera just doesn't mange to keep up with my picture taking needs. I have tried to use faster cards and lower compression and most fully charged batteries, but I can't get the pictures to come out as sharp as with my other cameras. There is a great delay while the flash charges and the camera seems to take forever to right to the the card.I find myself always reaching for the outdated model rather than this one.

In bright sun, even the best screens are nearly useless. Then a view finder is indispensable, and this compact camera has one! It is the ONLY one on the market now. It is also one of the easier to use of its type, with a good auto-setting program that I've come to trust for consistently good results, and it is small enough to fit in a pocket. It takes very good photos. There are limitations: slow processing and very slow re-charging of the flash from the AA batteries. This is not a good choice for rapid fire photography. On the other hand, AA batteries are easy to find anywhere, and re-chargeable AA's are available at a reasonable price compared to Lithium-ion and other types. While it offers very little control to the photo-taker, and a 5X zoom is pretty short these days, all-in-all these are reasonable trade-offs for the optical view finder and simplicity of operation; and at about $80 it is a good value.
