i bought this hard drive in order to upgrade my ps3(fat 40 gig). my ps3 is running as if it came with it in the box, great price to get 5 times the space.or double n the newer models

I have a Acer netbook and the hard drive was bad on it. I got this hard drive and it worked perfectly. The price was great, as there are other hard drives more expensive out there. This one worked perfect!

I've been using my Western Digital 500gb Scorpio Blue HDD in my PS3 for a bit over a month and so far it is working great. I've always had good fortune with Western Digital drives and this little drive appears to be as reliable as my past WD drives.A few notes on upgrading your PS3 HDD:1. Be sure to back up your existing data to an external HDD or at least your save files to a USB jump drive prior to swapping HDD's. According to Sony's "ToS" agreements with PSN content you're allowed a total of 5 separate downloads of your purchased content from the PSN. So if you don't have an external HDD you can simply re-download your content from the PSN store as long as you haven't exceeded the limit. A word of caution though: your save files may be locked (depending on the game) and some may not be able to be copied to a jump drive. Using the PS3's "Back-up Utility" in the XMB to save to an external HDD will copy even protected save files. It's clearly the better option. Also, once your original PS3 HDD comes out of the PS3 that's pretty much it. If you attempt to place it back in your PS3 it will still need to be formated, thus losing all of your data.2. Backing up your data to an external HDD can take several hours, obviously depending on the amount of data on your PS3's HDD. I had just about filled my 80gb PS3 HDD when I backed up my data. All told the process took about 1.5 hours. Once you've swapped the PS3's HDD for the larger model, restoring the data from the external HDD will take the same amount of time.3. Even though this WD Scorpio is rated at 500gb that will not be the actual writable disk size. Drives always set aside a certain amount of space... for what I'm not entirely sure. I'm certain part of it has to do with the PS3's OS but the rest I don't know. All told I had 465gb/500gb after I swapped out the drive. Still a massive amount of storage capacity.4. The PS3 uses 3 screws (at least my 80gb does) to hold the HDD in place. Be sure to have a small Philip's screwdriver - a jewelers screwdriver works best - to remove the screws. Be careful during this process as the wrong size screwdriver can easily strip the screws. An additional 4 screws hold the PS3's HDD to the enclosure. With the right size screw driver the process will take 5 minutes.That's pretty much it. Swapping the PS3 HDD is as simple as it gets and for most users 500gb's is more than you'll ever need. I've got around 10 PSN games, several demos of games, a complete back-up of my music library and have yet to get under 400gb's. My next step will be to use my PS3 as a media center and stream my movies from my PC.

Used this to upgrade my Xbox 360 hard drive to 250 GB. I know the size is 320 GB, but 250 GB is the largest Xbox would accept right now. Saved a bit over the stock Xbox hard drive. (googled to find out how to do it, not all that hard)

I saved about $50 by purchasing the cheaper X-box 360 slim and formatting this Western Digital hard drive, using instructions found here: [...]I have been using the hard drive for over a month now with zero problems.

Ran out of room on my 40 Gig PS3 and have been looking at this for awhile. Finally pulled the trigger on the 500 Gig. If you have an external USB harddrive bigger than what you have on your current PS3 drive, it is very easy to transfer data to it and then back to new hard drive. Sony makes the process simple.Works great, quieter, and love having the space to do whatever I want and not have to think about how much space I have left. Make sure you have the latest PS3 firmware first. Have not noticed any slowdown whatsoever. If anything it seems to be a little smoother with the extra space.

PS3 USERS: This piece of hardware is great. Really easy to install and so long as you have something to copy a backed up copy of your old harddrive, the installation takes only a few hours total. It literally takes about 10 minutes to physically change the HDD's over, but copying the old data takes a while. The more data you have, the longer it'll take. Make sure though you also have the most recent copy of the PS3 Updates on your backup drive as well, because that is needed also. You can download a copy of it from PlayStation's website over your computer. Just make sure you place it in a folder marked "UPDATE" inside the "PS3" folder of your backed up data on the external hard drive, or whatever storage device you used.The space you get from this is great, this is easy to use, and so far, no problems whatsoever. Of all the upgraded hard drives out there, this one is the most reliable.

I recently decided to add Ubuntu in a dual-boot arrangement with Windows on my laptop. It was 3 years old and had a 160GB drive which was full. I bought this to provide enough space for all I already had plus the new stuff.It is a simple product - just a drive in a box.Dirt simple to install, took maybe 10 minutes - more a function of the laptop itself than the drive.The drive holds the advertised amount*, makes no unusual noises, doesnt get overly hot, and has not broken in 2 months of constant use.* drive manufacturers use what I call "Celsius Megabytes"; so 500 GB is realistically more like 460GB but they ALL do it, so its like MPG for cars - just used for comparison shopping.

This Hard Drive works great for the PS3. All you need to do is back up your old hard drive's save data onto a USB stick, take out the old hard drive, and swap out the casing on the hard drive itself. This part is actually the hardest if you don't have the right kind of screwdriver, but in terms of overall ease, it's a cakewalk.Once you slide the hard drive in (it fits like a glove), just turn on your PS3, and it'll automatically do the rest for you. At first, I was afraid that I would have to stick the hard drive in my computer to format it, but fortunately that was not the case. After the PS3 is done formatting, just restore your save data from the USB stick and you are good to go.

I ordered this to replace the paltry 160 gb hard drive in my HP Mini 210 Atom-powered ("powered?") netbook and it installed easily.Make sure you have back up disks to reinstall Windows. I burned a set of back up discs using the built-in program installed on the HP Mini but they didn't work - despite the utility program supposedly running a verification program after burning. Oh well, I found a disk from another netbook and used that for the reinstallation.Now my little netbook can hold some FILES!Packaging (Amazon Frustration Free bulk oem) was safer than their unfortunate foray into "no" packaging last year.

Great and affordable HDD for my PS3. Received it fast and installed it in with ease. Also sounds way smoother and quieter then the stock PS3 HDD so that's always a plus. Have bought plenty of WD products and they haven't failed me once so will continue to buy their product. Also, I can finally use my PS3 as a multimedia system with this HDD upgrade.

This HDD causes the PS3 to lag and freeze constantly during some games. It is horrendous on FFXI Online. Factory HDD had no issues, install this junk had these issues, replaced factory HDD and game runs fine again.If you want to upgrade your PS3 HDD, look elsewhere.

This is the 4th Scorpio 500Gb that I've received. I bought 2 of them for RAID 1, but one went out. i got the replacement and that went out. Now I have the 3rd one. If this doesn't work, then I'm switching to another drive.I have no complaints other than 2 crashed on me. No data was lost.I'd recommend getting a solid state drive if you can afford it. I don't really feel like paying $3400 for two 500GB SSDs right now, so I'm just going with two of thess. $3400 is just a bit too expensive for me.Despite everything it's a quiet, decent drive.4 stars.

I bought this to replace my original 40gb hard drive that came with my PS3. I was originally only looking for a 250gb hard drive, but noticing the jump in price from 250gb to 500gb was only about 5 bucks, I decided, why not?It installed in less than five minutes. Formatted it, restored my original data, and up and running in no time. It has been running like a champ since installing it.I would highly recommend this HD if you're looking for a cheap upgrade for your PS3.
