I put this hard drive in my PS3 slim and its been working great and I love the extra space I have. I filled up my 120gb hdd in my PS3 pretty quick. It will take awhile to fill up the 500gb. No complaints here!

A STORY ABOUT THE DURABILITY OF THIS DRIVE.My $700 consumer Gateway Laptop started life with a Hitachi Hard Drive (not sure the model of the drive). Of which my niece had tripped over the Cord. The Laptop was on a coffee table, and it fell from about 1 1/2 feet onto the carpeted floor. It didn't directly land on the corner that the Hard Drive was housed in. But that was the end of the Hitachi Hard Drive.So I replaced it with what I already know is a good company, the Western Digital 160GB Laptop Hard Drive. Works great for months. Then the Laptop fell about 6 feet from my bunk on the tour bus directly onto the hard ass floor. The corner in which the Hard Drive was housed hit the ground first. The Laptop itself was split open in that corner. But the Western Digital kept on going and going. A few months later it fell out of the overhead compartment, bounced off the couch, and onto the same hard ass floor. The Western Digital kept on going and going. The Laptop as well kept on going and going, I'm writing this review from it right now.So yeah, I'd have to say it's One Tough Guy indeed.

I originally searched Amazon for a WD2500BEVS (NOTICE the S)So I found one for $76 (or at least I thought it was the right one), I purchased it and after receiving it I knew then I had ordered the wrong one. It's annoying how similar part numbers come up when you search on Amazon, but it was my fault that I did not catch this detail.The WD2500BEVS is no longer in production, so I was stuck with a broke computer and a new hard drive for a different computer. After looking at the two hard drives I noticed they were still similar. The metal casing off the old S model can be removed and installed on the T model. The way the two models plugged in was also different, the T had pins, but the S had flat connections. This was was changed by removing the plastic clip that contains the connections from the S model and snaps into place on the T model. The plug and housing is now exactly what I needed for it to work in my computer, and my old hard drive looks like the S model I had just purchased.I am super happy this worked out, because I was facing the fact I would be buying another computer because of a discontinued part.

After testing a non-functioning HP Pavilion laptop for several weeks, I concluded that it needed a new hard drive.I chose the Amazon offering over several others because of reputation, price and particularly a 2 year warranty.The drive was ordered on-line, shipped the next day and received and installed within 5 days.The computer is up and running and better than ever.It was so very easy.

I have been using this product since 1.5 year, so far no issue. I know its been long time i am writing this review comments. Somehow i miss to provide my review on this product. But it is good that after 1.5 yrs product works fine, After using couple of months it started noising, so i am litter worry that it may crash, so i am planning to buy external HD to back up my data.Perfect fit for my Dell Inspiron 1525. I would recommend this product for replacement hard disk.

I bought this purely to upgrade my PS3 from a 40GB drive to a 320GB drive. It installed fine, formatted fine, and appears to be working fine. The only issues I had was using the backup and restore functions on the PS3 itself, but that isn't the fault of the drive. For the record, don't really trust the backup part to do a good job. Mine would back up to my external 250GB drive that I was using just fine, but when I went to restore it, it would fail at about 17% in. It was like it was corrupt or something. So, I put back in my old drive and it too acted like the main boot part that held all the PS3 system info was corrupted, so I had to reinstall the firmware again, luckily it didn't mess up any of my saved data. Anyway, I called Sony to figure out what was going on with the backup. The guy didn't really know what the problem was (shocker) and told me that if it didn't work, to just put the old drive back in and copy things one by one with a thumb drive or something. Well, after about the 5th try it finally somewhat worked enough that I got most of the things I wanted off of it and I just re-downloaded the things it didn't copy. Moral to the story, don't expect something that is easy to be easy. Expect to have troubles.All in all, the drive itself is great. I don't hear it (didn't expect to be able to), it doesn't appear to get hot (but then again I never put my hands on the unit when it is running or the system itself. never did with the old drive either), and I don't get any lag or pauses or anything that I remember seeing people talk about on here before. So, if you want a bigger drive, go ahead and get this one. It will work fine. Just, like I said, don't expect the backup and restore function to work as easy as it appears it should. LOL

Several months back, I replaced my MacBook Pro hard drive with a 500 GB WD Scorpio Black hard drive. Immediately, I was disappointed with the constant vibration and distracting sound that constantly emanated from the all-aluminum chasis of the MacBook Pro. Additionally, I was disappointed with how quickly the Scorpio Black hard drive drained my battery. Overall, the Scorpio Black hard drive utterly ruined the silky smooth and whisper quiet experience that I had come to love with my MacBook Pro. Out of frustration, I decided to replace the Scorpio Black hard drive with the 500 GB Scorpio Blue hard drive. The end result: I could not be more pleased. With the Scorpio Blue hard drive, I have once again reclaimed the whisper-quiet and vibration-free user experience for which Apple customers pay a hefty premium. As for battery life, I think my battery life with the 500 GB Scorpio Blue hard drive is much improved over the original equipment 250 GB Seagate hard drive and a vast improvement over the Scorpio Black hard drive. For any MacBook users contemplating a hard drive upgrade, I highly recommend the 500 GB WD Scorpio Blue hard drive.

I bought this hard drive because the exact same one that was in my Dell laptop computer crashed. Dell would not help me with this since the laptop wasn't purchased from them even though I had a tag number. So I found the same hard drive on Amazon and the price seemed reasonable as well as shipping. Very easy to install new hard drive and I reinstalled windows 7 and everything is working great. I just hope this one last longer than 18 months....

This drive was used for a PS3 80gb MGS "Guns of the Patriots" Bundle. There is alot of information out there but too much misdirective "How to" and just plain stupid advice to put it mildly. More time spent sifting through the garbage to glean just the tiny bit of gem that was needed. Yes u need to reformat the external drive to FAT32 using a third party disk formatter and checking quick format. Second, you need a flash drive to place the latest update data ver.3.70? onto a U.S.B. flash drive to be used during the restore phase because the data is 185mb and won't be saved on the PS3 internal flash memory. If all goes well(I had to do this twice because of the update data issue)and don't forget to deactivate your video and game content and synching trophy before backing up your data to the ext.HDD. Sony apparently does not want to make this an easy process because they want to sell you their ugly neutered PS3 slim 320gb thats missing so much stuff compared to the beautiful chrome finish days of old model even though mines is missing the hardware PS2 emotion chip for backward compatibility(software emulation is bogus). I know alot of people are going to be discouraged at the daunting task of undertaking such a simple matter as this. I spent literally days reading all I could find on the subject and still came up short but finally got it working. This really demonstrates a systemic failure(my opinion) of a world bent on complicating things to enrich a chosen few who are priveleged by wealth and power at the expense of the average man. Specialization vs. integration.

I wanted to change out my PS3 Slim HDD for quite sometime now. And I finally had the chance to do so. I researched alot of info online before making my decision . I had so much trouble switching HDD for my PS3 Slim 120gb HDD. After all of those problems over the summer of 2011 with SONY getting hacked and putting the new filmware onto the PS3, I found it impossible for me to switch HDD in my SLIM. Luckily for me I have a PS3 60gb FAT in the box with no updated filmware on it. Heck I could still run Linux on it if I wanted. Anyway, I put the WB SB 500gb in it and it recognised it with no problems. It was simple. The hard part was the 4 days it took to redownload all of my stuff back on the New HDD. The new 500gb HDD works great in my old PS3. I am not the most technical of guys out in the world. But if you have a up to date filmware PS3 Slim you might want to consider doing alot of research before buying a new HDD to put in your PS3. But the next time I buy a new PS3, I will definitely get a bigger HDD to put into a new PS3 Slim. The problem I had was the Slim would not recognise the NEW HDD. Yes I had a memory drive with the latest filmware on it. I m just glad I got 1 of my PS3 to work with my new HDD. I hope this will help someone in the future when deciding on whether or not to get a HDD for there PS3. This harddrive works great with my PS3 60gb FAT console. Its one of the 1st models of PS3 that came out back in late 2006. It does plays PS2 games.

I've had this product for over 2 months and I am pleased to say that so far nothing has gone wrong. I noticed a great improvement in speed and the upgrade in capacity is definitely a bonus. Western Digital has failed me once, about 6 months into the life of my 640GB Hard drive it simply stopped working. It has not been that long yet with this current drive so for now, this was a great buy.

great hd, weeks ago i was running out of memory on my 80 gb hd and needed a replacement right away. The Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB is a good replacement but like the standard hd that comes frm factory the hd laggs it suddently freezes for a sec when playing online.

When my 320 gig hard drive died, I needed to replace it. For only a few more bucks, I upgraded to a 500 gig. Nice to have the extra space! Now my son can download ALL his music!Also applied for the amazon Visa and got $50 off of hard drive!500 gig for $20!

So of course any hard drive can be prone to failure, but mine failed after only 14 months of relatively light use and with little warning. WD's RMA process may work decently well, but their data recovery policy is terrible.

The drive was (aside from the anti-static bag) wrapped in bubble wrap, enclosed in an envelope. WTF?When it had arrived in Trinidad, I had hoped for the thing to work, but my expectation of the worst had been met.Western Digital, in my opinion is the best HDD manufacturers however, My anger is directed towards the retailer for their atrocious packaging.

July 2011 Edit: but i just gave it 5 stars anyway 'cuz some stalker keeps harassing me about my original 2 star rating. I think he works for WD. Happy Happy Joy Joy. We can all live in peace now.The internal Seagate 160GB 7200rpm HDD in my late 2007 / early 2008 MacBook Pro 15" bit the dust in February 2011. It was acting flakey the prior week so I became much more diligent at doing my SuperDuper backups daily to my external Firewire disk. Google SuperDuper if you need more info.I initially replaced the failed Seagate disk in my MacBook Pro with this 5400rpm 500GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue drive. Although it worked OK, the WD drive seemed slow to respond at times when clicking on a program icon or even an email within my Thunderbird email client.I would often get the Mac spinning color wheel before a program would launch. I doubt that this was due to the rpm speed differences between the drives. I can only speculate that there may be an aggressive power saving feature embedded and enabled in the WD drive's firmware causing it to spin down and stop frequently. I cannot verify this but I can say with certainty that the Hitachi Travelstar 2.5 Inch 500 GB 7200 RPM SATA II 16 MB Cache Internal Hard Drive 0S02858 does not do this in my MacBook Pro. YMMV.The Hitachi disk responds immediately upon clicking a program icon or opening a document, reading an email, etc. No more waiting on that spinning color wheel before the disk responds. The Hitachi is also faster than the WD at opening and loading applications (excel spread sheets, word processing docs, PDF files, etc.) as it should be at 7200rpm vs 5400rpm. But again the biggest improvement is in it's initial responsiveness.Again, I tried both the WD and Hitachi disks in my late 2007 / early 2008 era MacBook Pro 15" and the Hitachi is hands down the better performer by a wide margin. YMMV in your particular setup but what I described above is what I experienced first hand in my setup.

I bought this product out of necessity. After only a year the Hard Disk Drive that came with my PS3 became corrupted and my PS3 could not fix it. So I bought the 250 GB HDD and I'm very glad I did! My PS3 obviously has more memory now, but along with that it is running even better than before. Very good product if your looking to replace or upgrade the Hard DIsk of a PS3

This replacement hard drive works fine on my Inspiron 1525 laptop running windows 7. When I first put the HDD in I was really concerned that it might be defective because when it started idling, a very audible and annoying click from the arm could frequently be heard as the drive spun down. At first I thought it was the "click of death", but later found out that this drive's firmware makes it spin down after a few seconds of idling to save power. To fix the problem I installed "quiethdd", and haven't heard any clicking yet (however, the drive will be constantly running). The spinning of the drive is a bit noisier than others I've heard, but reading and writing data is pretty quiet. Otherwise, it is a great drive for the price with 320GB. I am satisfied.

Contrary to what other people have said, I would not recommend this drive for a PS3. Get a different brand of drive if that is how you plan to use it. This drive will work fine on a Windows computer but the drive's power management doesn't play nice with the PS3 and causes frequent 5-10 second pauses in games and the XMB. I have also read that a similar problem occurs when using this drive in a Mac.The problem is that the drive's firmware constantly trying to park the drive head and spin down the platters after 4 seconds of disk inactivity. The next time the PS3 tries to access the disk, the XMB or the game will freeze while the PS3 waits for the disk to spin back up. This is a known issue with WD's Scorpio green and blue drives. Google for WD aggressive head parking and you will find lots of forum posts on the subject.For those of you who are already stuck with this drive, there is a solution, but it might void your warranty (you have been warned!). WD released a utility called WDIDLE3 that will update the drive's firmware to disable the idle timer. WD says it is only intended for certain drives, and this drive isn't one that they officially sanction for use with the utility. Google for WDIDLE3 and you will find the utility on WD's web site. Next, you need to go to your PC and make a DOS boot disk or USB stick (you can find instructions by googling for DOS boot disk). Copy the WDIDLE3 utility to the disk you create. Next, take the drive out of your PS3 and hook it up to your computer. Make sure you disconnect all your other drives from the computer first! Once it is hooked up, boot into DOS using the disk you created. Run "WDIDLE3 /r" to find out how long the idle timer is set to (mine was 4 seconds). Now run "WDIDLE3 /d" to disable the timer. It should report that it has been disabled. Now put the drive back in your PS3 and TA-DA, no more annoying hangs.Another reason to do this: constantly parking and unparking the disk can wear out the mechanism and cause the drive to fail prematurely.If all this sounds like a pain, let me assure you, it is! But if you unknowingly bought this drive for use in a PS3 or Mac, these instructions might help you.

This was the OEM drive in my Acer Aspire One 722, got it for Christmas and the drive was dead in 3 weeks from occasional use. Drive started to make a click noise that would happen about every 30 seconds. I thought it was odd, but everything appeared to be fine. Upon trying to start it up later on that day, it was dead, and even though the drive would be recognized by Windows, it would not boot. What's worse is that bring an OEM drive, Western Digital will do nothing for me even though the drive states when it was made, September 2011. So 4 months ago tops. Only option is to send the entire laptop to Acer, which is honestly out of the question, as I am not going to risk further damage to the laptop due to shipping back and forth.I've had WD drives fail in the past, in HP's I used to own, and no longer buy WD products, for just this reason.

Purchased in March, took almost 2 weeks to receive. Really Slow Shipping!! Hard drive ran for 3 months and died suddenly (lost what I was working on when it crashed) is under warranty, I shipped it this morning back. What a hassle, I hope the next one last more then 3 months, If they send a replacement. No Impressed with Amazon....

Ok I brought my first Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM drive to upgrade an 80 GB Playstation 3. One extra small phillips head screw driver, five tiny little PS3 screws and 14 minutes later my old 80 GB PS3 had a new lease on life. My PS3 now has an upgraded 320 GB of storage and man it is like so totally out of this world. It was easy to do. The PS3 system if anything is faster than it was before. I am a clutz with tools since I have cerebral palsy and brain damage. Upgrading the PS3 hard drive was so easy even I could not screw it up.The new Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM drive is quiet enough for my purposes as it is certainly no louder than the little 80 GB drive it replaces. The price was great. I went to local stores in the Baltimore Metro area and there was not a 320 GB drive to be found in the so called big box electronics stores. However as is usually the case Amazon.com has items in stock and ready to ship that so many local stores run out of. Once I realized how easy it was to upgrade a PS3 hard drive with one of these 320 GB SATA 2.5's for totally monster storage I upgraded my two remaining PS3's to Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM drives in a heartbeat.Heck so many people started asking me to upgrade their PS3's to the Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM drive that I had to buy a fourth Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM drive so I could back up people's PS3 data to a mini storage device that has you guessed it a Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM drive inside. I have yet to upgrade a PS3 system to a 500 GB drive but soon as I do I will let you know. Upgrading a PS3 system to a bigger Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM is so easy an autistic werewolf like me can do it so for you folks it should be a snap.

I was very skeptical when I started shopping for hard drives that would work with my MacBook Pro. I was looking for a good quality drive that would last me quite some time. After some extensive research, I landed on this product because of the high quality of reviews and the competitive price. So far I've used this drive for 2 months and I have not encountered any problems.I chose to upgrade from my old 200GB HDD to the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB because I wanted the extra space. This model has the 5400 RPM which is not as fast as the 7200 RPM hard drives, but it did the trick for me. After two months of consistent use, I am very satisfied with my purchase and am considering getting an additional one as a backup of my current hard drive.In order to successfully clone my hard drive, I purchased a separate enclosure (2.5" HDD Enc USB 2.0). The process took approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete. The process was pretty seamless, and as advertised, the product was very quiet and did not make a lot of noise. I cannot hear the hard drive running on my computer.Installing the hard drive to my MacBook Pro was not an easy thing to do (which explains the 2 stars for Ease of Installation), but that has more to do with the computer than the hard drive.Of course, this hard drive (and like all other HDDs) require to be treated delicately because of how it works and its construction. I do not recommend shaking the product around both outside or inside any device.As a whole, I would recommend this product to people who are planning on upgrading any of their devices' hard drive space or to use with an enclosure.

I bought a Lenovo X100 computer for my wife, and it came with this drive. The computer came with a 1 year warranty, and typically, after 1 year, if they didn't fail, they tend to last at least 2 years. Not this one. A month after warranty expired, the hard drive stopped working. From one second to the next, it won't even recognize the drive. I checked for the WD page, to see if the disk would be under warranty (typically they guarantee 5 years of normal operation) and no, they tried to upsell a "loyalty program" - not nice when you just lost all your data.Needless to say, everything in the disk is gone forever, including documents, photos, etc. So I cannot recommend this drive based on my experience. It might have been a defective unit, and based on reviews it may be bad luck.

About two years ago I bought a netbook for school. Every thing was great until two months ago when my sister dropped it from about 5 feet high. The hard drive started making unusual noises until it died and wouldn't boot up. I took the hard drive out and cloned it to my external hard drive, defraged my external drive but I was only able to recover 3/4 of the netbook's hard drive. I ordered this product because it was the same one that failed on me. product came fast with no defects. When I got the new drive I installed it on the neetbook and it recognized it right away. I then created a windows 7 starter bootable usb and now my computer is back to the way it used to be thanks to this new hard drive.

I had an old HP laptop and the hard drive failed...was I pleasantll surprised to find an exact replacement. Installed in minutes and WORKS GREAT!

I have a 80gig PS3 and have been using it for more than four years. I decided recently to cave in and buy a larger hard drive upgrade for it. I been using it for a few weeks so for and its been smooth sailing, all files, videos, music, etc. have transferred over and it's like my old 80gig.... just with 200+ more storage.PS: I purchased a 32 gig usb to aid in the back-up and transfer process so I recommend that method for those that do not have a external hard drive to back up their data.

This came to Utah within 2 days, I just installed it into my Asus Eee netbook and loaded windows 7 on there via USB. Very quiet and just what I expected. It's the exact same hard drive the computer came with, and while I keep my computer on almost all the time and sometimes don't shut down properly, the hard drive crashed less than a year after I got the netbook new. Hopefully this lasts longer...

i will make this short as possible. i own a macbook that i bought in 06' that i used heavily during college. it was the first ones with an intel processor and last summer the hard drive crashed. well i finally got around to fixing it and i searched amazon for a decently priced hard drive and came across this one. received it and popped it in and it works great now. for people looking to fix an old mac laying around and you want to do a fresh install of mac os x then hopefully you read this. since i got a new hard drive and already have another mac that is my main computer hence why i did a new install of the os. to do this you will need a screw driver size 000 and a torx wrench size t8.1. take the battery out.2. unscrew the three screws that hold the L shaped metal retainer. behind that retainer is where you can pop the ram out and on the left side of that is where you can pull the hard drive out.3. pull the white tab and the hard drive comes comes out.4. unscrew the metal casing that houses the hard drive with the torx wrench and put it on the new hard drive.5. put the new hard drive in.6. boot up your macbook and either a) put in the mac os x install cd or b) hold the option key if booting the os from a external hard drive/flash drive.7. the install will start and you have to go up top to Disk Utility.8. disk utility will find your new drive and will be listed on the panel to the left.9. select the hard drive and you have to ERASE it. doing so will format the drive.10. go back to the install setup screen and it will ask you to to select the drive that you want to put the os on.11. it'll display your drive. select it and you're done.
