Hot and noisy is how I like to party (*sic), not how I like my hard drives. I upgraded my 13" Macbook Pro from the standard hitachi 160gb to this monster of memory device. Packaging and install went swimmingly, but once booted, my previous silent assassin become a pentium 4 notebook circa 2003. I do like the extra space, but the heat on my legs and the sound of the drive is a constant reminder of a poor decision. If done over, I might have gone with the seagate Seagate Momentus 5400 500GB 5400RPM SATA 3Gb/s 8MB Cache 2.5 Inch Internal NB Hard Drive ST9500325AS-Bare Drive or the Hitachi 500GB Travelstar SATA 7200 RPM Laptop Internal Hard Drive HD20500IDK/7K - Retail. Maybe I'm just disappointed large affordable SSDs are not here yet.

I used this hard drive to upgrade my 20GB PS3 to a 500GB PS3. It works perfectly. I haven't had any problems with it and doubt that I will. It fits perfectly in the hard drive cage for the PS3. I have played and saved PS2 and PS3 games on the Playstation 3 and everything works perfectly. I would recommend.

great hard drive. only took me 5 min to install the drive and about the same speed as my original Toshiba drive at installing win7 utl. $50 for a 500gb cant complain. its very quiet and stays cool every during long use. over all its a great buy.

I wasnt the one who installed it so i dont know about the ease of installation but my package arrived way ahead of the estimation date. Im using it in my compaq presario laptop everything seem fine. the minor problem is when i insert DVD in my DVD-ROM to install stuff it makes a loud noise. i dont know if thats cause by this hard drive or not but im pretty sure it wasnt as loud when i was using the original one.

This is my second harddrive i bought from here. My first worked wonderfully in my Ps3 so good in fact i told my buddy about it and i ordered him one too. After installing his it worked for about two weeks and just died. I even put it in my Ps3 and it wont even give me a screen. So its kinda hard for me to rate this because mine works fine but my friends doesn't work at all. Maybe he just got a bad one but me personally i would purchase another if needed. I've had mine for well over a year now so i like it.

I installed the disk and had Windows 7 installed in no time! It has performed well and is quiet as a mouse without vibrations - and I had been really monitoring those characteristics after reading some of the reviews. Great amount of space for the money! Cant be beat!

My initial hesitancy to purchase this drive didn't come from my experience with Western Digital hard drives. It came from Amazons hard drive shipping policy that apparently in the past was quite rough on the drives. The drives used to ship with an airbag after being plastic wrapped to a piece of cardboard. Now they ship in a box within another box that is held in place with two perfectly placed plastic spacers. If this is the newest Amazon shipping policy I think that they deserve some recognition as this system is a drastic improvement.The drive itself is more than adequate for use in the PS3, in fact from my observations I think the WD actually runs cooler than the Seagate HD it replaced. This is the second 320 gig hard drive I have purchased to replace stock a stock PS3 hard drive. After a combined 1200 hours of run time I can safely attest that the drives do their jobs with distinction.The drives are SATA so the install in a PS3 and even a PC are simply plug and play. The drives take longer to mount properly then they do to connect to the MB, or in the case of the PS3 the drive mount tray. If I ever upgrade another PS3 I will most likely buy another of these hard drives to go in it.

Needed to buy adapter and enclosure separately to install in my HP computer as an additional HDD in the 2nd bay. The drive installed easily and I have not had problems with it.

I installed this item very easily (modulo a balky PS3 screw) and it is currently having data restored to it with no problems. Simple and inexpensive upgrade of your PS3 if your drive is getting full as mine was. Just make sure you have a good backup *before* you begin.

Love it. I had about 30gb of video and 15gb of pictures from Europe... so I am also using my PS3 has a backup, 500gb for most people is overkill.

It's a laptop hard drive, what can I say? It works as advertised, the packaging was fine, and it is as fast as I expected. I'm using it for my HTPC box, a dual-core 1.6ghz Atom with ION graphics, running XBMC (Ubuntu) and connecting to a fileserver over NFS for media, so I'm not exactly pushing the drive, but it allows the computer to boot fast and is silent, so full marks from me.

I bought this 320GB drive to replace a Hitachi Travelstar 100GB that been giving me trouble in my Toshiba Satellite computer. Installation was a breeze and the new drive is quieter and faster. I wish I had done it 2 years ago. Note this comes in a brown box with absolutely no documentation however I found none was needed.

Been wanting to upgrade my 80 gig WD hard drive in my MSI Wind so I can carry a lot of my media with me on my trips. I travel a lot to other countries and love traveling light (One of the reason why I got the MSI Wind). I don't like carrying my External Western Digital Passport as well, but also it will drain your batteries since it's basically powering 2 HDs at a time.In airports I like to just get my notebook out and access my media and not have to plug in my external HD and try to figure where to lay it down (and with the short USB cable, it does not help). So this 500GB HD has done its job and I love it. This is also a back up to my External WD drive just in case that craps out or this one does and I dont have to use the internal HD on my Mac as a backup anymore.Installation is very easy and noticed there is not much of a weight difference between the 80 gig and this one, so this didnt really add any weight to my notebook. I also noticed its produces a little more noise than the 80 gig. Its not annoying, you just can hear a little hum sound where the 80 gig was not noticeable. I also noticed that it drains a little more power than the previous HD but not to much, but also bought a 9cell battery so it doesn't bother me too much.

I got this 500GB hard drive to replace my 60GB in my Playstation 3. Installion was so simple. The hard works with no problem. Also PS3 allows you to use any hard drive off the market unlike Xbox 360 which you have to buy Microsoft's smaller capacity and more inexpensive hard drives.Now I can store all my games, movies, pictures, CD rips, and HD home videos on my PS3!!

I bought this to extend the life of my MacBook. It's actually the third internal HD I've used with this computer, and the second since I installed OS X Leopard with it's clunky Time Machine backup system. I won't bore you with the details of how to swap an internal HD in a MacBook. Suffice to say you need some sort of external enclosure for the old drive.What matters here is that this drive made it past the three month's milestone, and (cross fingers) appears to be doing OK. It whines a lot though and spins down slowly, which is occasionally annoying. Otherwise it's a good drive.

I bought this as an upgrade for my Playstation 3 hard drive and it works like a charm. The only problem I had was with installation, but that had nothing to do with this product. The problem was that cheap little blue screw that holds the hard drive in place. Anyways, if your looking for an upgrade this product is perfect for you.

After checking out a lot of hard drives I picked this one up because it was a good price for the amount of storage. Used an external HDD to back up the previous PS3 data, installed this hard drive, restored the PS3 backup to the new drive and away I went. Been a month or two now and have had NO problems.Highly recommended for PS3 upgrading despite a minor hiccup in which the PS3 seems to only recognize 300GB as usable on the drive. My use is mostly music storage (way more then enough room at 300GB), if you are looking for mass video storage you may want to look at higher capacity drives.

ONLY GETS 1 STAR BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO PUT 0 STARS!! This product came free-floating in a large box insulated with air pillows. When the product arrived, it was sitting at the bottom of the box; air pillows were completely useless. The pictures state that the product would come in foam insulation; IT WILL NOT!!! I am lucky enough that the product luckily works....for now! You are better off spending the extra $15 and buy the product in a new package from Best Buy!! Do not waste your time and effort stressing out over this product. BY FAR THE WORST PACKAGING OR PRODUCT I HAVE EVER PURCHASED FROM AMAZON!!!

I just updated my 60 gig PS3 and just as a lot of people said, it's really easy. Just be careful with those small screws as they are really tight and a bit delicate.Before I switched to this new 320 gig HD, I was worried the system backup option on the PS3 wouldn't transfer everything I had on the old one. According to a friend that did it recently, copy protected files like Street Fighter IV didn't copy over. I was also worried about PS1 and PS2 memory cards. But it seems with the latest update, as of now 3.15, backup keeps absolutely everything. I didn't even have to re-install my games or re-download any demos!I was looking all over the internet to see how backup works but not even the official Sony site has all the information. I hope this review will help those wondering about protected files and PS1/PS2 saves.

This Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500gb replace my 120 gb hard drive in my Gateway ML series laptop. What a relief to know you have the space for the pictures and music and any other file you create. The installation was simple and quick. It run very quiet. The Western Digital run just as smooth and quiet as the orignal hard drive. it was worth every penny. Thanks WD.

It works great .. once you set it up. I wanted to use it with an external enclosure but you need to plug it on your motherboard and initialize it via 'Manage' in windows and then you can see the drive and format it.

I ordered this hard drive to replace & upgrade our PS3 hard drive. It was perfect. Super easy to install & update. We were done in less than 15 minutes & it works wonderfully. It's fast and quite with tons of space. I would definitely recommend this item to upgrade or fix your PS3.

This is the second one I have purchased not because the first one failed but I decided to use the first one as an external drive. After a failed attempt to restore a system image to the one I already had I decided for the price to just buy another and use the first for backup.This drive runs extremely quiet in my Dell Inspiron 1545 to the point that in this model laptop being too quiet can be a downside. There is no hard drive indicator light (see my review of this computer elsewhere) therefore if an application stops responding for any length of time you can not tell if the drive is still being accessed. Of course this is not the fault of the drive,you want a drive this quiet and I am satisfied with the speed of access this drive delivers.Highly recommended for the value and performance.

This was purchased to upgrade my Intel Mac Mini, and in my research it seemed like the Scorpio Blue/Black had the best overall reviews. I picked Blue due to the larger available size, a tradeoff over speed, but I'm not disappointed - it's as fast as I could expect from a 5400 RPM drive, and I don't see much lag in anything I do.What's to say about it? The hardest part of the upgrade was deconstructing my mini to make the upgrade. The drive went in easy, spins up reliably, and is quiet, quiet, quiet. Needless to say I'm not experiencing any of the issues noted in the negative reviews (noise, reliability, failure) after 90 days of ownership. If you're looking to upgrade your laptop/mini drive, I can't see how you'd miss with this one. 500 GB goes a long way.

I upgraded my Dell Mini 10V netbook that came with 160GB to this one.It is a wonderful HD. It is quiet and fast.It doesn't make as much heat as previous models.The installation was a breeze. (especially for the Mini 10V).It really is quiet. I actually used this on my Macbook Pro first.And then I bought the 640GB version for my Macbook Pro and used this one for the mini10v.So now I have a 160GB spare for emergency.It is a wonderful new series from WD. This Scropio Blue HD series is the most reliable drive I have used. (I am using at least 5 of them now.)Highly recommend.

Was easy to install. Definitely needed more room for the ps3 because 60 gigs were no longer cutting it. The GBs are more than enough for what I needed from this inter Hdd. Definitely a reliable product, have not had any game save or game installation issues at all. Very happy I went this route when upgrading internal hdd.

Recently my PS3 HDD started dieing (random freezes, would need to run the utility to rebuild the filesystem to get it to reboot), so I made a backup and started looking for replacements. After seeing reviews and the price on this (I can't believe how far drive prices have fallen), it was a no brainer to order this. The original 80 gig drive finally kicked the bucket a day later, and I eagerly awaited this.Unfortunately, the free shipping option was through USPS whom I've had problems with before with speed/condition of packages received. They claimed to have delivered the package on a day I was out of town, and it was not there when I got back late that night. I'm not assuming foul play on their part (though I don't rule it out), but my guess is the delivery guy left it outside my door and pretty much anyone at or visiting my complex could have picked it up. Keep in mind I live in an apartment complex on the first floor with open breezeways so anyone walking by my building could have seen/grabbed it (I actually live in a good neighborhood but nowhere is perfect), and the UPS deliverers all have the sense to leave packages with the complex main office with a note on my door (I called the office and they didn't have it either, so it's not just a case of a lost note).After several DAYS of runaround with USPS and getting nowhere I called Amazon up. Within 5 minutes they said they were going to send me a free replacement with next-day shipping. It came via UPS and needless to say I got it today, installed it, restored my backup data, and my PS3 has never run smoother.So to sum up: Great product + price, Amazon gave me AMAZING customer service, my local USPS office sucks.

The HDD is an excellent replacement for any laptop. I received the harddrive and installed it on a Toshiba laptop without a problem. The original was by Toshiba which only lasted 1.5 years. I also have another Toshiba laptop and its HDD went out right after a year. Evedently there seems to be a problem with Toshiba HDDs lasting just over a year. I would highly recommened this harddrive.

i just purchased a 13" unibody (late 2009) macbook pro, and when i was prompted to configure it at the apple site i saw the prices and was blown away and what they charged for hard drives, for half the price of what apple was going to charge i got this bad boy and put it in myself :-) i also installed my own ram (Crucial CT2KIT25664BC1067 4GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory KIT (2GBx2)) and i suggest you do the same if youre thinking about buying a macbook or macbook proi have an external 1tb usb hard drive by western digital and love their products, especially their internal drives, i always choose them over seagate when i build custom pc machinesinitially when i ordered this product it was a dud and wouldnt mount (show up), so i did an exchange with amazon and they sent me another with 1day shipping, great service, so i got the 2nd drive, threw it into SATA to USB enclosure (Vantec NexStar NST-D100SU 2.5-Inch/3.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 and eSATA Hard Drive Dock (White)) and it worked, a couple minutes later reformatted the drive and cloned my existing hard drive on this 500gb one using Super Duper 2.5, and booya, ready for the hard drive swapworks amazing and i recommend it to anyone looking for a larger hard drive for their macbook/pro

Have been using this for a week, upgraded current drive by cloning it to the new 500gb with ghost. Has been working great so far, no issues, seems relatively speedy; only issue is that I wish it were a bit more quiet. It's not loud or whiny by any means, but you can, in a quiet room, definitely hear the soft humming of the HD.

The hard-drive itself worked well and was fast enough for me Lenovo and not too loud. However i excepted a longer life than only 1 and a half years. Since the laptop is 17" i did not really move the laptop around too much, so there was not much chance to damage the drive. However, it still died fairly quickly.
