OEM installed one of these 320GB drives on my Acer Aspire 5738PG-6306 Notebook PC. It worked very well, up until August of this year when, after leaving the system to idle while I went and made myself some lunch, I came back to find this black screen and white text:Broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1 v11.4.1Copyright (C) 2000-2008 Broadcom CorporationCopyright (C) 1997-2008 Intel CorporationAll rights reservedBroadcom Base Code PXE-2.1 v1.1.0Copyright (C) 2000-2008 Broadcom CorporationCopyright (C) 1997-2008 Intel CorporationPXE-E53: No boot filename receivedPXE-MOF: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROMOperating system not found_I didn't think anything of this, I simply held the power button and turned the system back on. Everything was fine, I ran several different disk checking utilities to be sure it wasn't failing on me (as I did investigate it online, not finding much other than a few whispers here and there and that it could be an indication of HDD failure) and it passed them all. However, the same thing just happened five hours ago only this time the black screen had this white text on it, again after stepping away for less then 20 minutes while the system idled:Broadcom UND I PXE-2.1 v11.4.1Copyright (C) 2000-2008 Broadcom CorporationCopyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel CorporationAll Rights Reserved.Broadcom Base Code PXE-2.1 v1.1.0Copyright (C) 2000-2008 Broadcom CorporationCopyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel CorporationPXE-E61: Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.Operating System not found_After this however, unlike the last time, the system would NOT boot into the OS after the cold-shutdown and restart. I tried it again and again and again. I was finally able to access the BIOS only to find that this HDD wasn't even being recognized by the BIOS under the IDE0 in "Information" and "Boot", where it usually lists the manufacturer, serial and model of the HDD installed. After several more attempts to access the OS, I was finally able to get in and stay in long enough to back up my files (a miracle to be sure - something I have never heard of happening before as usually when a drive stops being seen by the BIOS, it normally never will again. I got incredibly lucky).Point being, after barely 1 year and 10 months this drive is dying on me. This system has not been subjected even to mild typing, let alone a bump or a drop! In the last 8 years, I have NEVER had an experience like this and I have only ever owned WD drives. I am very disappointed. This should not be happening to such a young drive that's been so well cared for (I perform cleanup and defragments regularly and I make it a point to factory image restore my systems once every year to keep things like this from occurring). Now I'm going to have to shell out $135+ to replace it with a different HDD, plus the cost to have it installed (my Notebook's HDD bay won't open without special tools) AND the $19.95 to replace the OEM Recovery Partition that can't be pulled off of this drive.Steer clear, spend the extra $$$ on a better drive. I wouldn't even pay $40 for this one again!

The hard drive works, and it was used as it was advertised. When I buy a hard drive though, I have some basic rules of thumb, first off, I do not expect to have to format the hard drive when I receive it. With everyone being sensitive about credit card information, that was readily available to me. I just happen to be not the person who would have taken advantage of that, so I instead wiped it from the hard drive.Secondly, it's a hard drive, not a postcard. I was absolutely shocked to see it wasn't in a static bag, that's pretty standard for shipping an highly sensitive electronic piece. Also, there was no real packaging at all, there was the order print off wrapped around it in an envelope. Not the appropriate way to ship a hard drive.

Got this as a replacement to my 2007 HP Pavilion DV6218 failed hard drive (Failed due to extreme cold it somehow got exposed to when we traveled through a blizzard - way back in 2010). This Scorpio Blue 250GB WD2500BEVT-00A23T0 did great as a replacement until now. I don't know how long should be the life span of a hard drive but 3 years of average use seems to be very short. Never got it full just only about 20-30% of capacity utilization and very seldom I erase/write files on it. Just so disappointing that this 250GB WD Scorpio Blue just did 3 yrs on me, considering the brand name and reliability of WD, I have expected more than that.

My wife has laptop that she dropped ooops bad news Hard drive busted Check with my tech What he wanted for repair almost could have bought a new lower end Laptop I went to my favorite online sight Amazon and started pricing and found the western Digital 4 and 5 star rating there was also a video how to relplace it with your old one The day it came I went right to work and relaced the old one very simple operation also should add the Western Digital is a better product than the original I put all the disc in the laptop and restored it back to factory settings and saved lots of money by doing this myself. I dont think I am allowed to say what brand the Laptop is but it cost 799.00 new and by relplacing with the western Digital again saved a very good laptop and cash.

I picked up a Toshiba laptop second hand, and it needed a new hard disk. After reading some other reviews, I settled on this model. It proved to be a solid little drive, and a good value.CONNECTIONS-----------Make sure you know what kind of connection your laptop uses. This is a SATA drive. Look at the drive you are wanting to replace, and compare its connector(s) to the ones you see in this product's picture. They should match.SPEED: 5400 vs 7200 RPM-----------------------Each drive has a spindle speed, representing the maximum number of revolutions per minute. On first impression, you might think that faster speeds are better. The reality is that it depends on what you're doing with your laptop. If you are running a database or application that will make many read/write operations, on an ongoing basis, then consider getting a 7200 RPM (or faster) drive. High-end game players might prefer the faster speed disks, too. If you just want to use your PC for typical everyday uses--a little web surfing, email, some games, and document creation--or plan to use the machine to store media files (e.g., photos, songs, movies), then 5400 can serve you better. A 5400 RPM drive provides some benefit when reading sequential data (e.g., media files). Since the machine I was repairing was going to be used for school work and as a media storage device, I decided the 5400 suited me best.A NOTE ON DRIVE HEIGHT----------------------While researching this one, I found numerous notes suggesting that this series of drives can be larger (thicker) than some other laptop drives, meaning they won't fit in some machines. That's only true of the drives in the Scorpio Blue series that are LARGER THAN 500 Gb (i.e., the 750 Gb and 1 Tb models). This 500 Gb drive is no thicker than any other standard laptop disk I've had.

I ordered this hard drive for my ACER 1 laptop after the original hard drive failed. When I received it, there were no instructions on the installation and set up. Installation was pretty easy, but there was nothing about the setup. After looking closely at the tuny print on the Western Digital Label, it said that the drive had to be aligned with software that could be downlaoded from the WD web site. After doing that, the drive did not work any better than before. The computer is now so slow that it is unusable.

I have a 40 gig PS3 and needed to expand the memory on it. This HD works great for it swapping them out was no hassle at all just youtube how to do that. The only thing that was not explained well was that you need to go to the PS website and install the firmware on a jumpdrive for after you get the new HD in place you need to put your jump in and it will begin to load.A lot of yourube installers have old ways to update this after you install the HD that just dont work anymore. Getting the firmware off the website was the easiest. just make sure the jump is compatable at phat 32 i think is what was needed. (did this over the summer and can't remember so much).

I just upgraded to this Scorpio Blue WD 320GB after my Scorpio Blue 160GB burned out after about a year, maybe a year and a half - that said I pushed that small 5400RPM 160GB drive to the limits of its probably intended paramaters or whatever - I dont measure the diagnostic statistics of drives and how much one heats up my CPU vs other drives and all that, but that SBWD160GB drive I burned out probably went past what it should have been able to take - I pretty much 'round the clock had uTorrent going with 10 to 20 downloads at a time with HandBrake or RipBot going backing up DVDs/BluRays while surfing the net and doing a virus scan or some other damn thing and that drive stood up to that almost 24hr 7 days a week pumishment for like I said a year to a year and a half - I dont think it was made for that kind of abuse - knowing this I tried to ALWAYS back up anythig completed or saved new or downloaded at the end of each day or as I went - I only lost a little personal word pad stuff I was stupid enough to not back-up months ago and a few downloads/back-ups that were recent and yet to be copied to my many back-up drives [I keep back-ups in triplicate, all that work and effort I will not accept loosing to wishful thinking] so all in all I would highly reccommend this drive to any laptop person that just does the ''normal'' amount of surfing and downloading and even to someone like me that just cant afford a desktop monster machine etc. Its a good drive - Tip: when you have to start using an external regular desk fan to keep the drive from catching fire definatly start backing-up your stuff and get ready for it to literally crash and BURN! PS - this new one runs VERY cool to the touch of the laptop unlike the one the 160GB I burned out you could feel the heat baking off that one the last 4-5 months of its life - and this new 320GB 5400RPM is VERY quiet - my internal fan is the only thing I can hear coming from my laptop - if you are poor like me and want space - get this drive!

This hard drive arrived quickly, it was packaged well (both by Western Digital and the additional packing that Amazon provided), and it couldn't have been easier to install. With the massive amount of storage (by my standards, anyway), the low price, and ease of installation, I'm completely satisfied. After a couple years of service, it's still going strong, and I have no complaints at all. This is not my first Western Digital hard drive, and I've always been satisfied with their price and performance.

Bottom-Line: With the "WD Scorpio Blue 320GB 2.5" SATA Internal Hard Drive" my laptop now has a new lease on life. Can one ever have enough storage space? I say no, one can always find a use for space and with the prices for hard drive the only thing that seems to be dropping these days, it's easy to grab an affordable external hard drive for not a lot of green. So when my HP Pavilion dv9000 started to run out of space (down to 17GB on a 120GB hard drive) I decided to purchase a new 2.5" SATA internal hard drive. But it wasn't just a space issue, I also wanted to install Microsoft Windows 7 on the laptop and 17GB of space wasn't going to cut it; the OS needs at least 20GB to conduct its business. My first choice for a new 2.5" SATA hard drive was Seagate, but I wanted at least a 320GB HHD, but the company didn't offer up anything at the price point I wanted to pay. So reluctantly I started looking at Western Digital (WD) drives. (I say reluctantly because my track record with WD drives has not been the best, in fact every one I've ever owned has crashed! But, WD offered up the drive I wanted for a really affordable price, so I went for it and purchased the "Scorpio Blue 320GB 2.5" SATA Internal Hard Drive."The DriveThe "WD Scorpio Blue 320GB 2.5" SATA Internal Hard Drive" is an Ultra-fast 3 Gb/s SATA interface drive designed for notebook computers. I purchased the drive bare bones from Buy.com for a neat little price of $64.99.I read a multitude of reviews on-line about the drive before I purchased it and all were positive, so I felt somewhat comfortable purchasing the drive despite my prior bad luck with Western Digital drives.InstallationI bought the "WD Scorpio Blue 320GB 2.5" SATA Internal Hard Drive" intending to place it in the second drive bay of my HP Pavilion dv9000, but it didn't quite work out that way. The incumbent 120GB Fujitsu drive is 1.5 GB/s while the WD drive is 3.0 GB/s.The two are not compatible with the Fujitsu as the primary boot drive, so after a few hours trying to get the WD to play with the Fujitsu I decided to switch the drives around using the WD as the primary boot drive and the Fujitsu as the secondary drive. That worked, so I installed Windows 7 and now my HP Pavilion dv9000 has two operational drives! Sweet!UseThis drive is quiet utilizing WD's exclusive Whisper-Drive technology that combines state-of-the-art seeking algorithms to yield what Western Digital claims is one of the "quietest 2.5-inch internal hard drives on the market." And fast, 3.0 GB/s fast. And now I have a brand new hard drive with a brand new OS installed. I was going to purchase a new notebook computer, but now I have extended the life of the HP dv9000 for at least another 2 years.ConclusionWith the "WD Scorpio Blue 320GB 2.5" SATA Internal Hard Drive" my laptop now has a new lease on life. The drive is quiet, fast, and I hope reliable. And now I have plenty of space to run Windows 7 and applications, as well as store music and video files.Western Digital also offers the "Scorpio Blue Internal HHD" in the following drive capacities:o 80GBo 120GBo 160GBo 250GBo 320GBo 400GBo 500GBo 640GBo 750GBo 1.0TB

If you are ever in need od a new Hard Dive, then look no further then the Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM 2.5IN 8MB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD3200BEVT. I have used this foe a couple of years and have never had a problem. I highly recomend this if you have a laptop, one for the storage capasity and two for the ease of insalation. If I ever need another one Western Digital will be getting my money.

I've had all kinds of issues with this drive due to the "advanced formatting", which is a crock if you ask me. When formatted in Linux, I get a warning that the partition is misaligned and to expect performance problems (which there are plenty of). Did some research, and it's due to the 4k sector format in these new Scorpio drives. I was able to fix the problem by moving my partition 2mb on the disk (which takes something like six hours for 500GB) and this exercise needs to be performed anytime a disk is formatted.EDITSeagate makes laptop drives with advanced formatting as well, but they have built in translation to more common 512b sector sizes, requiring no additional software and works with any operating system. While WD is my favorite brand of hard drive, Linux is also my favorite operating system, so the formatting issues are a deal breaker for me. Seagate has won my business in this respect. If WD can put out a drive that doesn't require special software to correctly line up, I will jump back on their wagon.

Purchased it to replace the small drive in my PS3, No complaints about it, nice having the extra space so I could fill my PS3 with movies and game saves. If only Microsoft would learn from Sony.
