Like many reviewers listed here, I purchased this HDD to upgrade my 40gb PS3. I've never done any surgery on a computer or gaming console, so I was a little worried I might have some trouble with it. Turns out it was an extremely simple process. Back up the files, take out the old hard drive, pop in this new one, follow the instructions on the screen and boom, I now have a monster of a PS3.This HDD came packaged in a nice shock proof box and runs as smoothly as my old 40gb did. After it was formatted for the Playstation, I ended up with just under 300 gigs, with about 270 of those free to be used. A huge upgrade over the 37 available I previously had.If you're looking to upgrade the HDD in your PS3 and don't want to pay more than $75, this is an outstanding option. I recommend it 100%.

After a year of moderate use of my Gateway computer the 260GB WD Scorpio Blue BEVS HD developed bad blocks/sectors. I replaced it at my expense but not with a Western Digital product.

Worked great. The only problem I had was that it wouldn't boot with my old seagate hardrive in the primary bay and this drive in the secondary bay of my HP DV9000 laptop. So I used an external USB enclosure to clone the drives and use the new 500gb drive as the boot drive.P.S Acronis Migrate didn't work either. I had to use Acronis True image. Beware!!! uninstalling Migrate software made my vista OS unbootable. I had to look for a fix on the internet.

I bought this for a Core Duo Mac Mini after researching what technology was in use. As this drive was an upgrade in both cache and access time (due to higher RPM), the system (combined with a 512MB->2GB memory upgrade) runs much better--and it has space to spare. The 80GB that the system came with was nearly full, what with our iPhoto and iTunes collections growing over the years. The hardest thing about my upgrade was opening the Mac Mini--this harddrive worked as advertised.

This was an excellent choice to replace the Dell (Samsung) hard drive on our labtop. We had many issues with the Samsung hard drive that came with the Dell laptop. The Western Digital hard drive is a smart choice if you are considering purchasing a hard drive. It is very reliable and one of the best products to consider when replacing. Do not call Dell!

Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 2.5 Inch, 8 MB Cache, 5400 RPM SATA II WD5000BEVT Works well in Lenovo Idea Pad with 10.2 inch screen 2.5 gigs of ram and vista operating system the little laptop out does my other systems that I thought were great. We upgrded from the 160 gig to this 500 gig drive. This hard drive is quiet.

Wanted to keep my files separated and needed more space. This drive has been very good. Virtually silent and doesn't generate a lot of heat as some other drives I had used. I am very satisfied.

The drive has a good reputation, but mine was dead on arrival. It spun up, but could not be written to.I tried again with another of the same model. Things looked better initially, quick format worked fine... I set it up as my laptop's boot disk and thought I was set.I decided to give it a good test, and tried to up fill the disk. After a certain point the disk started clicking like mad, the laptop hung and then bluescreened. I took the disk out and tried a full format on it. At 77% complete, the disk clicks like mad and format can't make progress.Very, very disappointing. This goes back and I'm in the market for some other manufacturer's product.

I was initially intimidated by the prospect of replacing my PS3 HD, but I'm so glad I went through it. This HD works brilliantly. The installation literally took 30 minutes. I went from 20 to 450 gigs in no time flat and boy did I need that room. My only complaint is that you don't get the full 500G (for some strange reason). Regardless, I now have plenty of space for all my new games and downloads.

I bought this Hard drive for my ps3 40gb, of course 40gb was far! to small. Everything about the hard drive is great! my only gripes would have to be about how hard it was to deal with the original hard drive in the ps3 which should be more of a complaint for the ps3 than the actual hard drive. Since install hard drive has worked great! I have noticed some issues with video sequential playback, it seems to take a few seconds longer to load videos, but i think that is due to the number of videos that I stop and start on my ps3. Overall great buy with no regrets, just have a dremel on hand for the install.

a 60 GB HDD on my macbook was KILLING ME. I Finally just upgraded to this 500 GB HDD and I couldn't be happier. The drive is pretty quiet but sometimes it gets a little noisy. Which I usually have on music so I can't hear it. I mean its very faint to be honest, but I would prefer near silence. Anyway if you need a huge HDD in your laptop or PS3 I would definitely go with Western Digital.

I bought this drive for my ps3, it works like a charm. It added a punch to the storage I have on my ps3, there is no noice, it works good, a must buy if you want to update your storage space in the ps3 or any other kind of device.

I have to say, after doing considerable research on upgrading my 60GB PS3, I choose this hard drive above all. It's very easy to install, and was damn near the same exact price of the 250GB HDD (made by the same company, which is now $5 more than the 320gb at the moment for some odd reason) that I was contemplating putting in. So, yeah, you're getting 100 extra gigs at the cost of nothing. Awesome deal, can't believe how easy it was to take out the old hard drive and put this one in. There's also no need to do anything with the HDD if you plan on using it as a PS3 HDD substitute. It'll format it to what it needs and everything.Fantastic product. I would recommend it to anybody who wants to upgrade their PS3's. You won't regret it.

My Macbook Pro recently gained a little pooch, those jeans we bought just a few months ago started getting tight, and I had to let out the belt a few notches. So I started hunting for a new drive.Being a faithful WD Customer, I decided I would give their internal laptop drive a try. I've had several other products of theirs that haven't screwed me over yet. I've had this drive a good month and a half, and I haven't had any troubles in terms of crashing or weird behavior. although, it's always a good idea to backup, no matter how great a drive is. I'll be sure to update this review in the coming months with any changes.Here's some of the reasons I bought this drive:#1. My Current HD was full, or very near, and once this drive was up I had a good 200 GB of space. That's a Smickle-pickle load of space for a laptop.#2. WD is generally a reliable brand, I haven't had any problems with them, and their internal and external hard-drives get very good reviews, especially compared to competitors products.Some might be concerned whether this is for laptops or not: I was new to HD's and had to do quite a bit of research. To clarify, Yes, this is compatible with laptops. All 2.5 IN" Drives are.I Haven't had any problems with heating up, either. Macbooks tend to run hot, so I was concerned about this issue. I have maintained about the same temperatures, give or take. It almost feels quieter, but that might just be my imagination, I don't have anything to prove it. The point it, I didn't notice it was hotter or louder than my original drive.All in All, I'm very pleased with this drive and will keep all of you updated. I had bought this hard drive recently to replace a missing hard drive on a PS3(Bought a PS3 without one online). It is already formatted to the FAT32, so all you need to do place it in the PS3 and format it (you may need to install the update from Sony's Official Playstation Website, so if you have any trouble just go to their website and follow the online instructions on replacing the hard drive.) After that, the system shows about 293GB. Also, the Hard Drive is very quiet, hardly hear anything at all.I recommend this particular one to people who are looking for a hard drive to replace the one that is on their PS3.

i just upgraded my 160gb hd to this 500gb hd in my black macbook and i immediately noticed an increase in speed. my xbench score also went up 15pts from 110 to 125. the hd did come in a oem type box instead of a regular retail box but i didnt mind, it was packaged very well. the hd was sealed and shrink wrapped inside a box that keeps it from moving around. a highly recommended upgrade for your mac if you're running out of space... now i can keep all my videos(170gb) on my mac!

My grandson's PS3 only worked for 3 mo. We contacted Sony and they wanted $150.00 to fix or replace it. I started checking online what type of drive it had etc. I priced around and found Amazon had the best deal. It also gave me input on how well the drive I selected would work in his PS3. I ordered it and it came within the time stated. It took all of 10 min to install and now he's playing again. With shipping it was only $80.00, alot less than Sony. I really appreciate the detail Amazon goes to so you not only have the product but can get info on how it has worked for others and install issues if any.Thanks from Grandma, I'm a hero now.

I bought this hard drive to replace the 60gb in my PS3. Install was quick and easy. Only problem I had was the infamous screws that were already in the PS3. After that the install was a breeze. The hard drive is quiet, and I swear it's even faster than the hard drive that was already in my PS3, which is a Seagate btw. It's been over a month now and I have experienced no problems what so ever. Great Purchase if you want extra space on your PS3 (which you will need so stop fighting it and buy a hard drive already, lol).

I received this product, installed it, started up my computer, and...nothing happened. Blue screen, message saying "no C/drive detected", or something like that. Tried it three times. Whether the drive itself was bad, or there was some software lacking, I don't know.I sent it back, ordered a drive from DriveSolutions (through Amazon), works perfectly.

I'm assuming that I must have just received a faulty unit. The drive worked great for about 2 or 3 weeks, then suddenly had sporadic errors reading and writing. After attempting to install a fresh operating system and failing, I'm returning this for a new one. I really hope this was a fluke issue and my second drive will work better. I've had problems with Western Digital drives failing in the past, so I don't have a high regard for the company.

I bought this for my 40gb Ps3 and to installation wasn't a breeze because the 4 screws connected to the hard drive was too tight and i almost rounded one screw but was able to take it off by applying pressure on the opposite side where the other screw was,and unscrewed the screw . Overall the switch was a success. To me i don't hear a difference with the 40gb toshiba hd and the 320gb hd but at least i got more memory and was worth the money paid. And parcel pool shipping from Tulsa OK to Kahului HI was 8-9 days when it was actually delivered by USPS . But it was worth it because it was free shipping.

I was a little concerned when I purchased this product because another reviewer with a Macbook said that his install required a trip to the Genius bar. My Macbook is no longer under warranty to I try to avoid trips to the Genius bar. Anyway, I was able to successfully install and restore from Time Machine with this hard drive. No problems, no challenges, no issues. I highly recommend for anyone else with a Macbook.

If you're upgrading a notebook hard drive and want the best performance, you can get a 7200rpm drive exactly like this one with a larger buffer (16mb) for about the same cost: Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Black 7200 RPM Hard Drive WD3200BEKT. WD Scorpio Black drives are top of the line and have faster read/write speeds than their 5400rpm counterparts. For the slight difference in cost, you gain a much faster drive. Well worth it in my opinion.

This drive arrived in plain brown paper packaging WITH ABSOLUTELY ZERO INSTRUCTIONS, OR DOCUMENTATION, OF ANY KIND. No setup DVD. NOTHING. I haven't gotten it to work. Furthermore, it's input jack was inconsistent with what was required for the Dell Inspiron 1100 I had hoped to update with it. I have yet to find any use for it, but because nothing could be discovered before ripping off the sealed bag it came in, it cannot be returned. I would advise that you NOT buy this drive.

Easy to install. Faster than 320gb original drive. Quiet and Vista boots up quickly. Western Digital software that is available online needs updating for USB attached drives, I had problems using it to transfer the Vista partition. I finally used Norton save and Restore.

For those looking to upgrade their PS3 HD, this drive is by far the most popular, and from the looks of the recent price drop, the best value upgrade there is. It is a huge bargin, I bought it for much more than it's current price of 67% off!!If you need installation help, just go search Youtube. There is one video where an editor from IGN.com shows you the how-to.

I replaced the hdd in my ps3 with this drive last week. super easy, the backup and restore took longer than the hdd replacement! hardest part was not stripping the cage and hdd mounting screws. the drive is nice and quiet and I've had no problems at all after throwing over 250G on it.update 02.11.09> drive still going strong, have over 400G on it. the sony firmware formats it out to 465G though (making a hidden partition for os files at a flat 10% which doesn't scale well to these larger drives). no complaints, fast, quiet, not much heat.

I bought this hard drive to upgrade my 60GB PS3. It took only a few minutes to install, it was very easy. I backed up my system onto a portable hard drive and after install just copied back up to new hard drive. I only lost a couple of game saves that wouldn't copy. This is a very quiet hard drive. The only problem I have had with this is my PS3 has failed to recognise this new hard drive 2 times, however after turning off main power and rebooting PS3 it works fine. I would highly recommend this, and it's a great upgrade to the PS3.

i bought this drive for my toshiba since I like lots of room on my computers and things. and i must say that it works great on my laptop. Its very quiet and does not get too hot, which is a plus since my old drive in the laptop (btw it was a WD as well but not the scorpio blue) was very loud and it got very hot.Overall i am very satisfied with my purchase of this drive. installing it was no problem and hasnt let me down yet.

I bought this hard drive for my PS3 and it worked just fine, only thing that bothered me a little was the drive SAYS 320 GB but when i checked in the PS3 it said 298 GB free but other than that this drive is a good buy recommend it to anyone looking for more HD space

I got this to replace the 160 gb hard drive in my unibody macbook. Got the product quickly and installed it. Installation was suuuuuuuper easy! Just popped out my old hard drive and put this one in. It works like a charm. I've been using it for a month with no problems! Great price, great product!

Got this product a bit late but amazon's customers service was awesome, just installed it now and makes my ps3 store more files. Install was easy and it was detected by ps3 quickly and formatted turned out to be 298gb.. quiet and seemed to be faster as well.

I upgraded my PS3 from 60 GB to 500 GB using this drive. It is a 5400 RPM drive, which is the same speed as the base 60 GB drive was. The overall replacement was easy enough, although I did run into issues with the screws holding the 60 GB drive onto the holder. Nothing that couldn't be overcome with a handy dremel tool. I wonder what kind of torque they specified for tightening the original mounting screws...This drive has, of course, the appropriate mounting tapped holes for use in the PS3.The drive itself has been running for over 50 hours now, with no issues seen.

I bought this hard disk to substitute the one (160GB) shipped by Apple in my MacBook (late 2008 model).The WD Scorpio Blue hard disk so far has proven to be silent and with an excelent performance, given its small size and big capacity.

I read the review on this hard drive before I bought it. Easy to install on the PS3. If you don't have much saved on your ps3, you can simply install it without getting an external hardrive to back up your memory.Its a great value for the price and the the longevity of having a ps3.

My new 500GB Scorpio is the shizzle. I applied it to my PS3 (formerly 60GB). I now have thousands of tracks (music) and, so far, about 11 movies on my PS3 along with numerous games & Demo's that I downloaded from PSN. Oh I, almost, forgot to mention...all of my pictures are also on the Harddrive. I still have over 300GB of free space. The upgrade was simple and the Benefits are HUGE.

I purchased this drive as a replacement internal hard drive for my White MacBook and have been nothing but pleased with it. In the past I had messed around with the hard drive before, but still I went to OWC.com where there is a video explaining exactly what to do from battery, bracket and hard drive removal, to replacement. I have had no problems and given that its a 5400 rpm drive as was the original drive, I have not seen any effect on battery life. Seeing that I still have over 200 GB of free space still makes me giddy.

This hard drive is one of the cheapest I found. If you are looking for good quality at a cheap price, this is the one! Granted, it did come in a plain, generic shipping box in only bubble wrap and a plastic sleeve, but packaging gets thrown in the trash anyway! (And this was probably more attributed to my choice of seller) I had no problems installing and it has had no problems performing like a champ!I used this hard drive to replace the smaller 100GB factory hard drive in my Intel MacBook and it works beautifully. I used a program called Super Duper to clone an exact copy of my older hard drive to this drive using an external enclosure, (Like this StarTech SAT2510U2 InfoSafe 2.5-Inch USB/SATA Hard Drive Enclosure) then simply took out my old drive and put this bad boy in. Everything was the same except I had an extra 200+ gigs of space for very little $$$

Looked around quite a bit to uograde my PS3 drive, and for the $$, this seems to be a great choice. Fairly easy install (be careful not to strip those screws!) Also, found info on backing up filees onto my 80GB Ipod, which made simple, and save you on having to get another drive for backup. Easy removal, install, and reloading of data. Was up and using it again within an hour (the load for the Ipod was pretty slow).
