I've owned this for a year. There is now a firmware update that adds a DLNA Media Server and an FTP server capabilities to the USB drive port. Good job TP-Link.

Setup is easy. The menu layout and descriptive names are intuitive and easier to follow for casual users than those of comparable routers, especially those from Netgear. Range and coverage is excellent and, based on a limited time of ownership, the signal is very stable with no dropouts.Addendum: After several months of use, I have noted one draw back to this TP-Link router. The wireless encryption seems to be a bit 'touchy'. That is, some of the settings don't seem to interface well with wireless products from other vendors. In those cases, switching to no encryption or a less restrictive form allows those other products to connect, but this kind of defeats the whole purpose of encryption. I have updated the firmware to the most recent, but the problem persists. So, I would urge caution if this router is to be used in an environment which includes hardware from other vendors.

The wireless router nowadays is not too different from a car, canned soup, cell phone or internet shopping - yes, it is there, it might be complicated piece of hardware, but it's usage has to be seamless! What you need is something that works and does not absorb your time or demand your attention. This router is not that. It will miraculously drop the connection. To wireless. Or to ISP. Sometimes it'd recover quickly, but sometimes all your VPNs are gone before it does. It will work for hours, and then - for no apparent reason - will start dancing conga. Almost like a living person - when stressed to the limit - will give way and crack a joke. Or two. Or run panicky down the street. Completely unpredictable. This is not what I need for my network.I do not need a flashy interface or billion options - I need my network's infrastructure that I can stick deep in the cupboard, where all the cables are, connect to modem and power, configure, and FORGET - I do not have time to play with capricious hardware. Alas - this router will remind you of its puny existence constantly, yet randomly, wasting all this very few moments you have for yourself or increase your stomach acidity, when you are in a hurry, and router - in a bad mood.This is not my first encounter with TP-Link hardware. And yes, this time the hope won over experience. But never again.

This is my first wireless router, and only second router ever. I don't have anything that is wireless, but family complained that they couldn't get a cell signal when they visited with their electronics. After shopping around Amazon, and reading lots of reviews, I got this one primarily due to the claims of super fast, easy and simple installation.First issue is that the material is not consistent. The Quick Start guide says to turn off the computer, modem, etc. Them start by connecting the WAN cable, the LAN cable(s) and then turn on the modem and router, etc. BUT, on the back of router, covering the LAN ports, is a sticker that says to use the instruction disk first. Hard to do if the computer is turned off. The disk says to just connect the cables, nothing about turning off the power anywhere.I told it to 'auto-detect' my system, since I have no idea if I have a dynamic, static or PPP(DSL) connection. It couldn't tell what I had. Not helpful. Tried Dynamic, since I knew I didn't have a DSL connection. Couldn't configure itself, told me to check the WAN connection type. Tried Static and it told me to enter Gateway and ISP and other numbers I have no idea where to find or what they are. And since I was doing all this on a Friday eve, there was no one at my ISP to ask. Note, my old wired router didn't care what kind of connection I was using, it just plugged in and worked, first time, every time. Don't know why this one needs to know what kind of connection I have.Finally got those numbers from my ISP on Monday, input them, and now it is working just fine, 72 hours later. Not exactly the 10 minute install I was hoping for. Granted, not the fault of TP_Link, or at least not totally...

The main factor in choosing this router was its hardware capabilities. This router is packed with a 400 Mhz processor and 32 MBs of RAM which is really good for a SOHO router product.Pros:1. Price is really low compared to other similar products, such as LinkSys's E4200 ($150)2. Really powerful hardware, fast internet access. Torrent downloads will not affect the router's responsiveness;3. Can be easily flashed with third-party firmwares (DD-WRT and OpenWRT) to enable built-in torrent client support;4. After flashing with DD-WRT it can be configured to download torrents on a USB-attached hard drive instead of having a computer run 24/7 and download torrents. This is very useful as it helps spend a little less on electricity bills.Had this router for 10 days and it was great experience using it so far.

This is my second TP-Link. I'm using WDS to extend my network with the 941 and the 841 models into corners of my house and I get tremendous speeds. This is a solid router with good strong signals and a solid feature set. I don't like to use encryption when WDS (it slows things down quite a bit) but I can still use MAC filtering to ensure that only trusted devices are allowed. All-in-all a great value for a fast N router.

The TP LINK has give me great service and distance from outside my home even. Its much faster very easy to install softwear infact the easy thing about this proudct is install its plug and play with great speed!!!

router works like a charm. Much more powerful then the netgear G router it replaced. I did flash it to dd-wrt and have NO regrets. Have not had to reboot it once since I have it. Already past the month mark and then some. The netgear would have to be restarted every day if not more often. Well worth the $$ on this TP-link. I paid right at the 53 dollar mark or so. Very pleased.

I replaced an old "G" router with this and it seems to be working quite well. Getting it configured took a little time and it locked up a couple of times in the process. Since I finally got it configured the way I want and quit fooling with it, it has been up and steady for a couple of weeks now. Data throughput is 4 or 5 times faster than with my old "G" router. The latest firmware has a WDS setting, but unfortunately it only allows you to extend your LAN, NOT connect to an external AP on the WAN side. That is the reason for the 4 star rating. It would be nice if it could connect to a public AP on the WAN side. The web interface, while sufficient for the home user, lacks a lot of the details found in more technical orientated units.I see that dd-wrt supports the wr1043nd so I might get another one and flash it with dd-wrt to see how it works. By the way, the "D" on the end stand for "detachable antenna".Update, Nov. 2010: I bought a second WR1043ND and flashed it with the dd-wrt firmware several months ago. (This appears to be a one-way process, once you go to dd-wrt, you can not go back to the original firmware.) dd-wrt really give you control over the configuration and also gives you a lot of status information. It now supports virtual radios so I can set it in client mode and connect to another AP while using it as an AP with my own network. I can set up configurations that the original firmware would not let me do. However I don't recommend dd-wrt for the faint of heart, as you need a fairly good idea of what you are doing. Also dd-wrt doesn't seem as stable, and seems to lock-up periodically, but overall I am pleased with the unit.

I can't comment on speeds and many technical aspects of how well this router works. What I can say is that setup with the included setup wizard is a BREEZE! I was a little hesitant because although I have been using PC's since the first IBM PC came out in the early 80s and I consider myself very knowledgable, much about networking still remains a mystery to me. I can get things set up eventually, but nothing ever seems to work as described in instructions, and I don't really understand HOW things are supposed to work. Through trial and error I can always get things working, but I don't know why or if I have things set up the "right" way. Anyway, enough about my ignorance. I followed the quick start instructions to the letter, turning everything off, including the cable modem. Plugged everything into the new router. Turned on modem, router, PC, allowing each to completely power up before turning on the next. Stuck the CD in and followed the instructions. I upgraded my security from WEP to WPA-2, using the old pass key since I have it memorized. Everything worked like a charm. Went to our two laptops, iPhone, Archos Internet Tablet, Roku Player, and connected each to the new SSID with no hitches. Since everything else is pretty much 802.11g I can't comment on speed, and I have not tried the USB port, though I intend to. I mainly upgraded to n to use with a bridge to use ethernet to the Roku and other entertainment devices. Oh, and for the gigabit ports which have DRAMATICALLY speeded up copies to my Seagate Dockstar.I highly recommend this router to other who, like me, are a little intimidated by networking.FWIW, there are many good reviews on another site that begins with new and ends with egg. ;-)

I bought this unit from Amazon.com after reviewing other people's comments on this router,but to my surprise the install program did not even complete the installationprocess since it kept saying it could not verify router settings and it failed.I tried to call their tech support team at TP-LINK, but their support lineswere busy most of the time. So I went back to my D-link DIR655 and it worked fineas before. I am returning this unit disappointed because I was hoping that it would increasethe speed of wireless connection.

I have lived with quite many routers, wireless or not, famous brands or not, linksys, d-link, buffalo, edimax, name it.All of them, not a single exception, caused some problem when you first install.This one, one the contrary, just worked. Connected the cable, and that was it. My internet phone, laptops, desktops, all of them just connected.I had one tp-link adapter for desktop, that one did not even need to refresh the wireless.Now speed, well, not sure if this is any faster than my previous b/g, but at least the tp-link adapter says 300mb connection.Range: very good.Stability : never dropped connection after I bought it. However, in my experience, usually the instability was caused from the adapter side, not from the router unless it is real crappy.Most of the cheap product had a serious instability because of the configuration issue. Once configured, they usually works.This is real cheap for its quality. Do not compare to the garbages that I would not take for free. The price was one of the main factors that made me try this unit.Finally, you will find the unit is quite small, and beautifully white. Its constantly blinking lights also looks great. Do not look at the picture. the real unit looks much better. Well, I personally consider most of the routers ugly, and try to hide them. This one is not.I usually never write a review, but this unit is so good that it made me to write this. Thinking that this company should prosper and make this kind of good machines for me. ^^

I was in need of a new router after my Belkin Router was slowly fading. I was looking through Amazon randomly and came across some TP-Link Routers. I had never heard of TP-Link, but the price was good and the reviews on here, (for the most part), looked really encouraging. I decided to go for it and I bought this router in September. Almost 4 months later, I have not had to reset this router ONCE.I had to do a little more than the necessary and easy setup to get this thing launched, but once it was up... this thing has been indestructible.The speed and strength of this router can only described as one thing....... A straight up BEAST. I could leave anything on forever, and it will never drop a connection or anything. The signal strength is also far superior to anything I've ever had before.Also, the price vs. quality is extremely impressive... this is a REALLY good buy for you're buck. If I'm ever in need of an upgrade, I will definitely be looking at TP-Link stuff before anything!

I bought this specifcally for putting DD-WRT on it and it didn't disappoint. It is much faster than my previous router with both wired and wireless connections and with DD-WRT I have just about everything I want from a router.

It does everything it is supposed to. I have 4 laptops, wireless printer, and a Wii connected. Setup was easy and fast. Speed is great. I have a 3 Mbps DSL and having all units connected we can still download at that speed wirelessly.The really nice thing about this router is the USB port. Other brand routers only allow access to the port by one device at a time... not this one. Multiple users have access to the external hard drive at the same time. No extra programs to download.I had to contact tech support because of a brain fart on my part. There answer came in two days and had the correct information for me to fix my problem.To sum up this review... cheaper than bigger name brands and works better. I highly recommend this if you do not need a dual band router.

Glad I purchased this router. Replaced my 7 year old D-Link. My home network consists of 4 PC's, 2 XBOX's, a print server, and a media player. All hardwired. Also, a couple of Itouches and a wireless netbook. Setup was easy!! I was up and running in about fifteen minutes. You don't need to be a router genius to install this. Yes, there are many settings and features on this router. As you go through all the paramaters, all the settings have an explanation to the right. This is really helpful!! The only problem I was having was with the network card on my Windows 7 machine. After doing searches, I found this problem to be a common network issue on W7 machines. I needed to disable my network adapter then re-enable it everytime the PC rebooted or went into sleep mode. Long story short..I unplugged the ethernet cable from the router switch and plugged it into my Black Box secondary switch. Problem solved!! Glad I did that instead of waisting money on a new network adaptor. Must be some hardware conflict with something in the router switch? It's weird because there are no problems with the other three ports. Definitely a W7 issue. Moving on..The wireless signals are strong and robust. Never a disconnection. I set up my network using Mac filtering. Easy setup on that also. Works like a charm!!!

I love this modem! It installed in a minute, and when I did a speed test it downloaded almost 50% faster than when the same computer was just connected via ethernet. I'm no tech, and that makes no sense to me, but I did it twice and my internet speed is much faster on Wifi. Kinda insane!

I did all my research like I always do and it came down in the end to Cisco (linksys) or TP-Link. I have had many routers since the days of prodigy (showing my age) and most of them have been linksys. I seems by way of reading hundreds of reviews that the days of high quality from linksys are over and now they are mediocre at best but still with the premium price tag (just like sony) So for 150 bucks for the comparable linksys valet model that seems to have a overheating problem or this 70 dollar TP. I have never had a TP product before but at less than half the price and no major issues found in any review I rolled the dice.... and won this router is amazing. Set up was too easy, in 20 minutes I had both the wired and wireless networks up and secure. This thing has speed and range. I was watching a full 8gb movie (VOB) on an old as dirt laptop 40' away though 5 walls and perfect, full speed. My ipod touch works down the street. I can't wait to try pout the wireless N which is supposed to be even faster.Best of all I got it fast. I love the free super saver shipping because I am a cheapskate but I hate waiting up to 2 weeks. I got it in two days! yay! granted it shipped from LA and I live in San Diego but still yay.Get this router you will be very pleased.

I haven't really seen anything better than 120mb on the wireless, but it's pushing through a signal in a spot were my old Netgear G was not. So, I'm not complaining. I also saw an increase of 40mb when I plugged my Western Digital livewire into the gigabit port on the router.

Just got my new router (replacing an old Netgear which needed restart almost everyday). It was the easiest setup imaginable! Just plug it in an run the step by step guide from the supplied CD (or from the internet if wanted - I used the CD). So far I can only review the setup and the incredible speed! I have 300Mbps app 5 meters from the router which is located in a drawer behind a door (compared to 59Mbps on the old).

This is a great router, I only use it for internet sharing and it work great. Just be sure you download the later firmwere is not you may go a litter crazy specialy if you what to use your droid A855 WIFI. Range is way better that other brand names. Don't get hot as some people say, I ran two TV with netflix and 2 PC at the same time to tast the video speed and run great, no heat, no problems, work good with N and G devices.
