I purchased this drive to replace the 80gb hdd in my ps3. It works great and is super quiet. Installed in my system for over a month now and no issues so far.

i bought this hdd to replace the hard drive on a laptop that died, the price i got for this unit was great since it was purchased during amazons black friday, there isnt too much to say about as far as looks or anything like that, i can however say that the packaging it came in was easy to open and very safe for this hdd i had no problems with it at install

Read reviews and seem 5400 rpm speed is the better for to go for my replacement in my ps3 after reading reviews about heat issue and stuff. This works just fine in ps3 for over 3 months now... no issues and some things slightly seem to load faster... maybe true maybe placebo effect I don't know but it feels like it =P. Great PS3 replacement

It came DOA totally, making clicking noises and and I couldnt return it, logistics are so complicated and extense that obviously no one would like to return something that was 80 bucks only...it's more the hazzle to have it returned than buying another one.

The hard drive came in a external encasing with a usb 3.0 cable. I wanted to use it with my ps3 and after screwing it out of its encasing and swapping it with my old 60gb hard drive it was working properly and ready to download tons of games. The plus side of it? My old 60gb hard drive from the ps3 was repurposed with the encasing and its now a 60gb usb3.0 portable hard drive I carry around.

In a notebook, predecessors of these drives have failed. I hope these last.Matching manufacturer and size for a dump / restore of a disk image is what drove me to get this particular drive. I have not been very impressed with the series up until now but my options are limited to retain the correct drive format. These will be spares, since I just had to use my last spare to rebuild a RAID array component. I bought *two* only *because* of the track record of failure, and I can't afford to lose the machine they are in due to disk failure. (Yes, it's backed up too!)So, I gave these drives 3 stars because I can't really comment on them otherwise than comparing with their earlier versions.It's possible it's a bad design in the particular notebook - the mirrored pair are stacked back-to-back with no place for heat dissipation - which is what I suspect has killed a series of these Seagate Momentus 500 drives over time... (as I say not *this* particular one, but several previous ones in the ST95004XX-- series).Perhaps if I ever get to needing to use these drives they will be just fine.

If you're buying this drive for a PC laptop (I have an HP Pavilion laptop - I'm not sure if this applies to other PC laptops as well), make sure you buy a caddy and adapter for this drive as well. Without it, you're not getting it installed into an HP (and possibly other manufacturer's) laptops. I learned this the hard way. I received the drive today, and after an hour of Googling (after HP's website was useless) how to install it (I know desktop PCs intimately, but am a little shaky with laptop PCs) and finding nothing online, found out that I needed an adapter (it took voiding the warranty on my original drive, by tearing off the manufacturer's tape, and removing the drive). I was not able to find any information on HP's website regarding this.My annoyance is not with the drive or the seller, but with HP. The seller sold me exactly what I ordered, and it arrived in a timely manner. That said, it might be nice if the seller added a disclaimer mentioning that the drive caddy is needed for at least HP laptops (and who knows how many other PC retailers).For what it's worth, I purchased the drive after a strong recommendation from another IT geek friend of mine. I may comment again after the drive is actually installed and in use. For now, my review remains at three stars, since it's neutral, and I can't actually evaluate the drive yet.

I am not a big fan of 5400RPM drives but this was a replacement for a friend. So far they have not had any complaints about speed or anything. Amazon sent me an empty box on the first go round but promptly sent one out the next day after I got online via a chat session. Their support is very good! Thanks Amazon!

I bought this to replace a 500 Gb 500 rpm, this new one is way faster and that's what I like about it, I do recomend it very much if you want speed this is what you want, unless of course you can afford a solid state HD

I bought this HD cuz I needed a portable hard drive with enough memory to partition into two drive. I have a macbook and PC-Desktop. I created 2 partitions (325gb ea) and it works fantastically. I paired it with an externat case (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BFA91C/ref=cm_cr_ryp_sol_prd_image) and i couldn't be happier. Great job

I just installed this guy on my late 2007 model Macbook as an upgrade from the functioning 320 gig WD (which is an upgrade from 80 gig factory drive). As indicated by several other buyers, it works just fine on a Mac. Just slip it in, "erase" the contents (formatting?) and install. It is quiet, and possibly faster, but that's probably just smoothness from a new clean install. Either way, I am sure this drive will do good, this brand has a pretty good reputation.

Excellent, cheap, fast drive. I'm really impressed with this drive. My mom's WD drive went out on her 4 year old HP notebook with Vista. Threw this in, loaded Windows 7 and away it went.

I recommend this product as an upgrade for PS3 hard drive. I used it to upgrade from 80gb stock HDD to 500gb. Easy & successful swap. Works equally as well for laptop HDD upgrade also. Works great & allows much more memory for my PS3. Effortlessly installed in my ps3 the day after I rec'd it. No problems or complaints & is used daily. Thumbs up.

buy this hard drive with the intention of changing my other Seagate disk to optimize my pc. But not even a month working hard. Smells like burnt. A Fraud. not recommended.

Replaced my existing 160GB hard drive with this one and it works fine. No issues with the installation or compatibility. At 5400 RPM it's not a speed demean, but you get good performance based on the price.

Bought this for my school laptop, because I was working with large data sets and needed the storage and speed. Installation was no problem, but after I installed the OS (Ubuntu), the Ubuntu disk utility program warned that the disk partitions were not set correctly. Misaligned partitions cost in terms of degraded access times. One of the reasons I bought this disk is because it was supposed to have built in software to ensure partitions are positioned correctly, to ensure maximum access speed. Obviously, the disk's built in software and Ubuntu disagree on where those correct partition boundaries are. I tried "fixing" the problem using a partition management program. After several attempts I ended up having the re-install Ubuntu and let the disk software dictate the partition boundaries. Since I apparently have no manual control over the process, I have no way to determine which approach would work better.The hard drive so far has been working flawlessly. I just don't know if I'm getting all the benefits of upgrading to a 7200 rpm drive.

This Drive was installed as a replacement for a 320GB Drive for my PS3 Phat (itself a replacement for the stock 80GB Drive)& has been utterly trouble-free. The install was straightforward & after formatting the Drive & reloading my data from a large thumb drive I found I lost zero data.I chose this Drive because I understand that this is about the largest capacity HD the current generation of playstation can handle reliably & it runs @ the stock RPM.PS3 owners can install this Drive with confidence.I am quite satisfied.

I had read some bad reviews in the past re: Seagate but have had NO problems with their Momentus 2.5" drives over the past 5 years. These are rock solid and very fast.

I've had numerous 250 - 500 GB drives fail over the past two years, including replacements of the original failed drives. For me, this amounts to a failure rate well over 50% over two years. I've never had a failure rate this high for any drive.

I have owned this hard drive for awhile now and have no complaints with regards to it overall design and functionality. It has been functioning quite well and doesn't seem to have any overheating issues even though this is used in a gaming system. Would recommend.
