I bought this device for my Compaq Presario C751NR laptop and it was easy to install anything from my old 120GB to this 500GB hard drive.

Easy to install in laptop .. used Maxblast5 from the Seagate website to 'clone' my old C drive - make sure to use a boot disk that you create from the Maxblast5 menu to clone the C drive otherwise you may get a 'blue screen'. This disk is faster than the old drive but it does run a little warmer.

Pros: easy to install, lots of extra spaceCons: Perhaps a little louder than my stock HDI've been using this hard drive for close to a year and I haven't had any problems with it. I wanted to upgrade because I use a lot of space on my Macbook with music & video files. It was super simple to install. It literally took less than five minutes to install on my Mac. It came well protected in the mail and arrived very quickly as well. I love all the extra space I have, but I think the fan may be slightly louder when I'm managing large files (1 GB+). It's not really a complaint, but it's still worth mentioning. When I'm using my computer normally it's the same as before. I'm definitely happy I bought this.

Just an excellent product!!I've always preferred the Seagate brand over the other, and until today I was not mistaken.Now my IBM ThinkPad T60 works faster than before, the HDD is quiet and almost no heating.Thank you!!!

I used this drive for my PS3. Very simple to install, the PS3 asked to format my new drive, and after the format, I had 500 gigabytes of space. My old drive was only an 80 gig.

Bought Nov 2, got it two days later (love the Amazon way of life) put it in my Dell, worked flawlessly until i sat my laptop off my lap and on the bed Nov 25, no imapact at all. Came back, computer was locked up and hard drive was making a slight buzzing sound about every second. Rebooted expecting everything to be ok, drive wouldnt spin up and same buzzing sound. Pulled it out and shook it around a bit to try and jump start it, didnt work, gave it a rotational twist to try and free the platter and put it back in and it would spin up but when it goes to engage the heads it makes a terrible dragging sound for a few seconds and spins down, wash rinse repeat. Seagate is supposed to be the drive to beat but i guess "Product of China" takes its toll on everyone. At least I only lost a few weeks work. Guess I'll back up more often.

The drive's breathing hole (the one that says do not cover) will interfere with a wire which connects the inferred and power light on older MBPs. I fixed this by slightly bending the wired and then using electrical tap to make sure it was secure. I reinstalled my system and waited about three days to make sure everything was still in-place. Other than the hole being where it is, the drive is great and love how fast and space it has compare to my last one. It's a good price also.

I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO UPGRADING MY 60GB PS3 INTO A 500GB PS3. I WAS LOOKING AT CUSTOMER REVIEWS ON BOTH THE SEAGATE AND WESTERN DIGITALS, AND HEARD THAT BOTH ARE COMPATIBLE AND RELIABLE.BASED ON THE REVIEWS I BOUGHT THE 500GB SEAGATE HDD AND THOUGHT THIS WOULD WORK ON MY PS3.BEFORE I BOUGHT IT, I READ THE 1 STAR COMMENT FROM THE (I WAS UP FOR 7 HOURS) GUY AND I LMAO AT HIS COMMENT THINKING THIS PROBLEM WON'T HAPPEN TO ME.BUT I'M NOT LAUGHING NOW CAUSE I'M VICTIM NUMBER 2.I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE GUY STATED.I GAVE THIS THING A 1 STAR BECAUSE THE HDD WAS NOT FOUND ON THE PS3.I CAN'T QUITE RULE OUT IF THIS IS A 1) COMPATIBILITY ISSUE AND 2) IF IT NEEDS TO BE FORMATTED WITH A DIFFERENT SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD.I TRIED FORMATTING AND INSTALLING IT FOR A FRUSTRATING 2 WEEKS BEFORE RETURNING IT TO TIGERDIRECT FOR A REFUND.AS SOON AS I GET MY MONEY BACK I'M GOING FOR THE WD SCORPIO BLUE 500GB HDD, I HEAR ITS MORE COMPATIBLE FOR THE PS3 AND RELIABLE TOO.

My Dell Inspiron 13's original HDD was a Western Digital 250GB 5400RPM/8MB Buffer which was really quiet but needed replacement.I bought this at Dell.com and was branded on that website as Dell 250GB 7200RPM/16MB Buffer with Free Fall. When I opened the OEM box, its this Seagate after all and not a Dell brand as I was hoping to find.In the process of installing the OS and drivers, I started to hear the clunky sound. The problem is it is not a quiet HDD, it is in fact loud. It is worse than the Western Digital hard drive it replaced. There is no noticable speed improvement either.I am sending this back and buying the WD3200BJKT instead.

I recently purchased this Seagate Momentus 500 GB to upgade my 160 GB PS3. I got the product earlier then scheduled from Amazon, which is always a good thing. I installed it the sameday, the installation was simple, if you did your homework on upgrading the PS3 HDD. After installing the new 500 GB HDD I turned on the PS3 and it sounds very quiet. I recommend the product for anyone who wants a little more breathing room in their PS3, its a perfect fit and works Great !!

I have one of these from the factory in an ASUS N81. The drive is the loudest hard drive I've owned since the mid 90's. I have debated RMA'ing the computer for the hard drive noise, but after reading so much about how crappy this drive is, I'm just going to spend my own money and get a quality hard drive. If you're considering this hard drive, good luck with the lottery on them. Seems like most of them are junk; mine is.

Installed this Hard Drive in my laptop and then Installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS with no problems. Kept my original hard Drive which had a Windows Vista Premium 64 bit OS. Have been using new hard drive about a month now and it appears to be quiter than the Western Digtal with Vista OS. So far the new Hard Drive is working just fine. Windows 7 start's up and shut's down so much quicker than vista but why didn't Microsoft put "Windows Mail" or "Outlook Express" in it?

The 2.5 inch Seagate Momentus 250 GB hard drive works flawlessly. I bought the drive for the increased RPM and capacity to replace the one in my Toshiba 17 inch Notebook.There was no problems fitting it into the Hard drive slot or space. I reloaded the original Vista Home Premium software from the Toshiba recovery disks then downloaded all the latest updates.I am completely satisfied with the dive.Jay Reynolds.

Purchased the drive in March 2009 and worked fine in my Thinkpad T400 with WinXP for 8 months. Then in November 2009 computer was slow to boot up and began freezing randomly. Then windows wouldn't fully boot up and was barely able to run in safe mode.Ran PC Doctor 5 and disk surface scan failed.Ran CHKDSK and was unable to read many sectors and wasn't able to fix bad sectors.Drive just failed, presumably from bad sectors. Wasn't making any audible noises at all so no warning.Thankfully I had the entire system drive backed up on a windows home server and was able to restore from the previous night's backup to a new drive. Popped in the new drive and was back up and running.

The first of these drives failed to be recognized by the computer on its third day.Amazon swapped it out quickly (thanx Amazon).The second started giving me sector failures after two or three days then would not complete a check disk.Amazon refunded me quickly (thanx, again, Amazon).Tried a different brand (Hitachi) next and it is working fine.

I bought this drive a few months ago and about a week after installed it started to make a noise that sounds like a bunch of marbles are loose inside my MacMini. It also makes beeping noises here and there...The noises are starting to become more prevalent so I went to Seagates site to have it swapped out...they want to charge me 19.99 in order to send me out one first so that way there isn't any down time...What a crock!...I wouldn't recommend getting this drive or any Seagate product...They obviously know they have problem with their drives because they are charging you 19.99 to have it replaced in a timely fashion..Should have bought a HITACHI!!!!

My laptop's old hard drive fried the weekend before finals, so I desperately needed a new one. Dollar per dollar this machine was cheaper than the laptop models available in stores (Best Buy, TJMax, etc). It also, is a highly effective hard drive for someone who isn't concerned about lugging around half a terabyte of info on their shoulders. Amazon failed to deliver it on time, but I'll overlook that.

i use to have a older version of this HardDrive on my laptop so i decide to order something similar...some people complain of the Hardrive making noice or not working.in my case it worked fine, no sound or any vibration i use my laptop atleast 12 hours a day and havendt had any problem with the disk.the price is good and the product works nicely.

Hard drive only lasted 2 months before it starting making clicking noises, and by the 3rd month it didn't work at all. I would not suggest buying one.

With online and Playstation magazine instructions, installation was very easy. This drive works great and gives plenty of storage for years to come. It doesn't come with documentation but info is available online for most uses.

I love this laptop HDD, i just tried to install the Widows7 but initially i attached to the enclosure and formatted. It did not show any noise. Previously i have Hitachi, Hitachi is number one in HDD but my previous HDD gives hell lot of nice. Still needs to be tried by putting into my Laptop and install Win7.

I expected this drive to work, of course, but I did not expect it to be so quiet. It has been my experience that Seagate drives are the most robust and dependable, but the reliability has typically come at the expense of noise levels higher than that of comparable drives. As an owner of the 500GB WD Blue 2.5" drive (which is quieter than a whisper) I didn't expect this drive to be as quiet but I decided to give it a shot anyway because I needed one in a pinch and couldn't get another WD model on such short notice. To my surprise, this drive is just as quiet as the WD model. Seagate has apparently made great strides in this department. It is my understanding that the WD model consumes slightly less energy than this drive does, but we are not talking about a large difference and I do trust Seagate reliability more than WD at the end of the day. So, in summation this seems to be a great 500GB 2.5" drive. If something changes down the road I will return and amend my review as I always do when new information arises.

I have done a lot of PC upgrades, this was my first Mac Upgrade with new install of Snow Leopard. This was by far the easiest upgrade/install that I have done. Drive works flawlessly so far! Very fast and quiet!

I purchased this drive to replace the Seagate 7200.3 320GB HD on my MacBook Pro. This drive is just as fast, if not faster. Installation was a snap and it is running like a champ. The drive is very quiet. Highly recommend this drive as an upgrade. With all of the extra room, I installed Ubuntu 9.10. No issues running this drive in a dual-boot, multi-partition configuration. If you want the biggest and fastest (SSD's excluded) hard drive on the market, this is the drive to get.

I'm not sure what the other reviewer did to get his drive working in a PS3, but mine sure doesn't. My system was originally 60 GB, and I tried to upgrade it with this drive. After the upgrade, I occasionally get an error message saying the drive isn't found, or a game will freeze when it tries to load data from the HD. Apparently this is a common problem with this model, according to the Seagate product forums. I haven't yet been able to find a fix for this problem, on this model (some earlier versions could be "fixed" with a jumper).

I wanted to replace my stock 5400rpm with a 7200rpm HDD to see what sort of performance difference I would get. I am surprised yet grateful to say this was a great decision. This drive is quiet and so far hasn't changed the battery usage on my laptop. There is also a very noticable difference in laptop speed!.

The Seagate 500 GB 5400 RPM Momentus hard drive came along with my new HP Pavilion HDX16t Entertainment Notebook. The warranty of the notebook was 1 year and the hard drive crashed 3 days after one year. HP support was not willing to replace the hard drive because it was out of warranty.

I got this for my ps3 after reading upgrades and it was installed by me and the download process went well the drives worked it is quite and also just dont forget to back up the things you have and it will go flawless. now need a bigger drive like a 2TB.

Purchase this to upgrade the original 100GB in first generation MacBook Pro. Reinstall OS 10.5 and Bootcamp Windows 7, few noticeable differences are MacBook Pro chassis is warmer while and vibration is higher under normal operation. No clunking noise so far.

The drive works great and is fast, and I had no trouble installing it. However when I ordered it (It says it shipped directly from Amazon), it was "In stock and ready to ship", but didn't ship for almost a week after I ordered it (Either it takes them a week to process orders, or it was not ready to ship or in stock)...Once shipped, it arrived quickly.

Have it installed on my Macbook 13".PROS: As quiet as the Seagate 60GB 5400 RPM the Macbook came with, faster, low energy consumption(wonder if it's not even lower than the previous. My battery gives me up to 4hrs..). Big storage capacity as opposed to the 60GB I had before.Haven't monitored the read/write differences yet but...CONS: Did not come with the metal cover the previous Seagate had (lost, not shipped, not included?) Had to unscrew it from previous and screw back on that one. Easy.

I am reviewing the 250GB ST9250410ASG. I just got a new laptop with this drive and it is incredibly noisy (click, click, click). I am not sure if this is normal for this drive or if it going to fail early. At any rate, it is annoying and I will be backing up often.

I bought a pair of these and configured them in RAID 1 inside a Thecus N0204 Mini NAS. So far they have been running perfectly, no problems at all. There's a noticeable increase in performance when using a 7200 RPM drive versus a 5400 RPM drive and I'm glad I went with 7200 RPMs for the NAS. These drives are also very quiet and have been running no warmer than 45 degrees celsius. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one for my laptop.

I installed this hard drive with Snow Leopard on my early 2007 MacBook Pro. I love the speed on the 7200 RPM. The old 5400 took 34 minutes to copy my iTunes library to my external. THe new 7200 RPM drive took 18 minutes to copy back. The drive is quite... in fact I never hear except on initial boot up. I can not comment on how it effects battery life since my laptop is always plugged in.

This is a 320GB 2.5 inch "laptop" drive. I used it to replace the original 60GB HDD in my PS3. Works great, no issues. Has warranty from Seagate. It's a hard drive and it works as described. Price was good also.

Buyer beware. Notice that there is no mention of the manufacturer's warranty on Amazon's product page for the Seagate Momentus 7200.4 OEM drive. I e-mailed Amazon, they said they could not determine warranty coverage for this product and suggested I call the manufacturer.Seagate told me they probably wouldn't provide any warranty at all for this drive because it is an OEM unit that was originally sold to a manufacturer, who then sold their overstocked product to Amazon. The Seagate person said the only way I could be sure would be to enter the unit's serial number into their warranty-checker Web form, but of course I'd first have to buy the item, then return it to Amazon if I was not satisfied.Can you believe it? What a run-around!

This is the biggest & Fastest laptop drive on the market. Setup was a simple. The only way to get faster is with a Solid State Drive. But SSDs don't come in 500GB (yet). I've always used Hitachi 7200RPM notebook drives, but Seagate was first to release the 500GB model. Now I can travel with my entire MP3 collection. Highly recommended.

Seagate Momentus 5400.2 ST9100824AS - Hard drive - 100 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-150 - 5400 rpm - buffer: 8 MB (Purchased on 03/09/2009)was not the problem with my HP Pavilion dv 6110 us notebook computer. HP now says it's the motherboard, which I ordered 3 wks ago, now on a slow boat from China. God willing it will arive soon and I'll run the hard drive to see how it performs.
