I needed a hard disk for my Sony Vaio laptop as I was getting cyclic redundancy check failures. I wanted a 1 TB hard disk (after all, I am spending the bucks, why not go for the trophy capacity) - but soon realized after some research that all 1 TB 2.5" hard disks in the market now are little thicker (taller) than most laptops have space for. Unless yours is a new laptop that can take a 12.5 mm thick hard disk, you have to stick to the standard 9.5 thick ones - which means you cannot get 1 TB, at least now. I am sure 6 months down the line, WD or Seagate or Samsung's gonna come up with a regular sized 1 TB disk. Anyway, I downgraded my capacity wish to 750 GB, and after some research, zeroed in on this one - reading some good favorable reviews on newegg and tigerdirect. I went with Amazon because of Amazon's great return policy (it is a hard disk to be shipped on a truck after all). Fit perfectly. Lots of space now, don't know what to do with it actually! Unless this one dies on me before its average life expectancy is over, I am going to stick to this 5 star review!

I purchased this as a replacement for a clients dead WD HDD. I purchased the Seagate model with the same specs as the original - 250 GB, except this one is faster. I had no problems except for when re-installing and updating. Seems like the drive was overheating and producing a BSOD. I've worked on Sony VAIO notebooks like this; this one was an HP G60. So I just put on my Antec notebook cooler, problem solved.I'd try this again if I needed a smaller drive. Customer was satisfied and I'm pretty comfortable with Seagate's 5-year warranty.

I'm very happy with the 500 GB Seagate hard drive that I recently purchased. My notebook's original hard drive was on it's way out, so it was time to get a new one. A Toshiba replacement for the notebook was just as much as this product, only difference was the Toshiba hard drive had only 250 GB of storage. I got double the memory for the same price. This is by far the quietest hd that I have owned. Sometimes I wonder if it's even on. Excellent product. I would buy from Seagate again.

This was a great hard drive to purchase for the Playstation 3, I had a 80gb PS3 and I was already full of memory. It is easy to install, with a flashdrive and maybe 30 minutes tops it was running great. It is a recommended buy for PS3 owners. (Sucks to be a XBOX 360 owner). The order was shipped quick and in a safe packaging so the hard drive won't move around. It's a must buy for PS3 owners, Music, movies and game storage.

So at first when I installed this drive it said this message once but I didn't think anything of it but then a day later it says it again when I boot it up. Whats weird is that about 5 out of 10 times it says that message so I need your help. Have you ever experienced this with you ps3 and this hard drive? Please respond I need feedback if there is any way to fix itagain the error message is "Cannot start. Correct hard disk not found".thanks

I bought this Seagate Momentus 500GB 5400rpm SATA HDD to replace the original 40GB one that came with my PS3. Whether you have the original style or the new PS3 Slim model, swapping out the HDD takes only a matter of minutes and is incredibly easy to do (a small phillips-head screwdriver is all that is needed). YouTube does have tons of videos describing the process step-by-step for those with concerns.

I own over fifteen (15) Seagate internal drives rnaging from 15K SCSI to this 7.2K SATA and a Momentus XT SSA. This drive did not disappoint. Transfer of data was flawless and the firmware upgrade straight forward. Bonus was a great price.

This hard drive is very easy to use and simple to install. I purchased one because of a failed laptop hard drive. This is a great replacement and has not had a single hiccup since it arrived in the mail. Anyone who is familiar with installing a new or secondary hard drive shouldn't have any issues with this drive. It works as advertised. Even if it becomes faulty, which I doubt it will, Seagate has a good warranty system. The noise and vibration level for this hard drive is not noticeable at all. It is sleek and silent and I highly recommended it.

Holds all my junk. works great. wasn't reading at first, had to go into computer management to format it and get it running. no instructions to explain this, had to look it up online. bought the bare drive with no packaging, so this is kinda expected. very fast.

In all honesty I was looking for a larger Hard Drive to replace my internal laptop drive but since the 1TB 2.5" only comes in 12.5mm thickness and most laptops only fit 9.5mm thickness this was the next best option. I'd recommend this to anyone that can take advantage of the security features. My laptop has the option of using boot passwords which locks your drive until you enter your password even before the Operating System starts. With the not so distant incidents of the government losing laptops with person's social security numbers stored on said laptops this is a great feature at little to no additional cost. Just a heads up you do have to turn this feature on in your BIOS. I'd highly recommend looking into a BIOS update to get this feature if you don't already have it.

This was a christmas present given to me along with a Acomdata enclosure. Together they make a fine external HD, but I'll stick with the HD now.Honestly, I can't think of a single complaint regarding this drive. I can't vouch for it's raw performance, but it easily pegs the USB 2.0 limitation of about 30MB/s. The drive is also silent. I can't hear anything while it's idle or read/writing unless I put my ear right against the case. Oh, and it's very cool; almost no heat being produced after running for about an hour.For laptops, I think this drive is impossible to beat. Unless you want to sap every last bit of performance from your machine, this drive will be more than enough for most people. I know a few people have said "Oh, it's only 5400RPMs, only 8MB cache, blah blah..." Well it's still darn fast and perfect for your average laptop users or external enclosures.Now at some point I might do some eSATA benchmarks, though I've read this enclosure is limited to SATA150...

I put the 750, 7200 in my 2011 MacBook Pro and it is simply the best! Apple doesn't offer a 7200 rpm 750 and if they did, they would kill you on the price! This drive is quiet, fast, easy to install, and so far--very dependable! I replaced a 500 GB drive with this and I am extremely satisfied. Seagate has a great reputation and this drive only drives that reputation home.If you want to maximize your MacBook, this is the drive to go with!

I purchased this drive to replace another Seagate Momentus I had that was full. Works exactly like you would expect, as fast as you would expect, and as quietly as you would expect. I have heard others complain about the Momentus drives seizing and breaking, but in my experience with both of them this has never happened.Love the drive, would buy another one.

Had bro help me install it to my ps3. looked easy from what i could see. the screws were a lil too tight but we got em. reformattin it was the easy part, the only hard (well no so hard but long) was transferring the data back onto the internal hd. took about 6 hours for me. works excellent so far, just waitin for PSN to pop back up to install more games and demos :D

When people ask me about hard drives, I always tell them:'All drives are bad, some are worse.'Seagate 3.5" went from bad to worse, which started with the 7200.11-series, but the 2.5" Momentus line has not been affected by quality problem. I have installed about 50+ of these in mobile applications and they are all working well.Temperature? Not a problem.Speed? Decent.Reliability? Above average.Keep in mind that vibration and sudden movements are the #1 killers of portable hard drives. Those who like to do acrobatics or not let the drive spin down before moving the computer are likely to kill drives--regardless of brand.

all i can say is that this HDD is awesome and it was a snap to switch out the old one and insert this one. i have everything that was on my old HDD (was an 80GB) on it and have downloaded a lot of movies,add-on content, pictures and music and i still have a little over 300gb left to play with. if your looking for a upgrade hdd for a ps3, look no further ( unless you want more space than 500gb, which is avalible). this drive rocks!!

I bought this drive to replace a full 150 GB HDD also from Seagate (was the standard with my T500 Lenovo laptop). The drive was easy to install after cloning the old disk. So far (2 weeks) the drive is working fine, a bit faster than the previous one (normal) but is significantly more noisy. In the office I do not notice it but at home it is the most noisy thing in the room and I cannot ignore it. It reminds me of the fans I had in my old desktops. I will look for a new replacement drive soon.

Replaced the old 320gb 7200rpm in the my Thinkpad T61. Cloned the 320gb to this new 750gb and noticed a performance increase, especially during boot. No reinstallation of the OS was done.

If you are looking to upgrade your PS3 hard drive this is a great choice. This is the same type of hard drive that's already installed in the PS3, except it has more GBs meaning more space. Buy this internal hard drive if you want more space on your PS3. Do not go with a 7200 rpm it can overheat your PS3. 5400rpm is standard.

I purchased this 7200 RPM 250GB hard drive as a replacement to my current old 40GB laptop hard drive. My old laptop hard drive was waring out and was full and I was always constantly clearing out old things just so I could fit in the new things. So I rebuilt my laptop and now I have around 220GB of open space after installation of my operating system and my software. That is more room for my videos and my iTunes. This method of purchase was also cheaper than going down to a retail store and buying one.

All that was in the box was the drive -- no cables, nothing else. I hooked it up with a USB / SATA 2.0 adapter and used Seagate software to clone the drive. Dropped it into my laptop and it came up just fine. I've been using it about three weeks now without any problems and lots more space on my drive!

I bought this drive to upgrade the 250 GB OEM drive in my MacBook Pro. After I installed it, it worked fine for @ 3 months. Then it died. I shipped it back to Seagate and a few weeks later I had a replacement drive. After I installed it, it worked fine for @ 2 months. Then it died. I shipped it back to Seagate and a few weeks later I had a replacement drive. 2 months later and it's starting to show signs of impending death. WHAT A PIECE OF GARBAGE!!! Save yourself the trouble and get a Western Digital.

I was hesitated to buy this drive but there have been a lot of positive feedback at Newegg lately. Thus I gave myself a try, especially with the recent cheap price + free shipping. I should have paid attention to all the negative reviews here at Amazon.Noisy: Bought it 2 weeks ago; installed it on Aug 19, 2010 to replace my 40GB Seagate Momentus 5400 RPM on one of my laptops. The drive is noisy to me; perhap I use it in my quiet home office, no TV, no one but myself. When I put my old drive back, the room suddenly becomes quiet. Don't understand why it is noisy; both drives are the same type "Momentus"; the differences are the RPM and the capacity.Vibration: It vibrates a lot. I don't feel comfortable with my hands on the keyboard because of this vibration. But I feel nothing with my old 40GB Seagate drive.Hot and a lot of heat: Temperature rises quickly. Watching video or browsing around for a while, the drive temperature rises very fast compared to my old drive. I am afraid that its life expectancy will be shorter due to the high temperature all time - it is easily to reach the max too.

This HD was specifically for my PS3. I bought this from the recommendation I found on youtube. It was a snap installing just as shown. My PS3 accepted it with no problem and I went for the 500 gig HD instead of the 250 as show on youtube thereby going from 40 gig to 500 gig. Amazing!!! I highly recomend buying this product for the PS3. No tech skills necessary.

I was delighted when I first installed this (12/2009) as a replacement drive in my Dell Inspiron. However, in recent months the drive access light seems to be on almost continuously. In the last month, the Dell diagnostics that automatically run weekly have started telling me that although the SMART tests pass, other tests do not. Third-party partitioning utilities no longer recognize the drive, although they did 2 months ago. So, I am going to replace it before I can no longer get my machine to boot. I am very disappointed in the short useful lifespan of this drive. And I don't seem to be alone...

Just know that this drive doesn't come with Segate's G-Force SMS to detect if your device is in a freefall. That feature only comes on the 500 GB ST9500420ASG2 and the 250 GB ST9250410ASG2.I ordered mine elsewhere, but I still can't wait to get it in my 2011 MacBook Pro's current HD slot. I had forgotten how slow these stock 5400 RPM drives are!

I used this HDD on my MacBook Pro instead of the original one. I expected it to be much faster as it's 7200RPM. But that's not the case.Speed is ok while accessing data files, but it still takes some time when launching "heavy" applications.My only problem now is trying to launch BootCamp on vmware Fusion (Win Vista on BootCamp runs great on its own). I still need to get that issue fixed!I didn't notice any noise from the drive as I read in some reviews, so I believe it's quite enough for whoever works in the night when there's silence surrounding him like I do.Great product and recommended for whoever is looking to expand his MBP's HDD.

I like seagate drives better than the western digital that compaq uses in their laptops. They have always failed after a few years (2 for 2).It has 500gb, a good value for the price. I would give it 5 stars, but all hard drives are subjedt to failure, so I will hold off the final judgement. Maybe soon we will have solid state or some other technology that is more reliablee. I have a USB drive that went through the washer and still works fine. It should not be impossible to invent a durable hard drive. Of course then they would not be able to sell you one every few years, but a company who puts one out will capture the market.

I'm only giving this three stars because I can feel the drive running. The old drive was a 5400RPM drive and maybee thats the difference as this one turns 7200RPM. Reguardless the drive works fine and has no bad sectors. There is no packaging or software with this drive but you really don't need any. I would reccomend purchasing the software to backup or swap (clone) your original drive if you are going to replace your current drive. I purchased Acronis True Image and it works well and easy to use. I have a Dell E1505 thats several years old. I needed more storage for pictures, music and movies. I would give it five stars if I didn't feel the thing spinning below my palm rests.

nice experience with Amezon n Seagate! the product is the best choice for my dell laptop inspiron E1505. the new internal hard dr (sata) was first cloned( copy of all data including operating system) from old hd with help of int. hd enclosure and seagate disk management wizard. Thereafter the old hd(80gb) is taken out from laptop and replaced new hd in it after after taking it from enclosure. the laptop has been started and has run as before, very simple. no hasard, no noise(any sort of humming), nothing hot ! now quite specious running smooth.Highly recommended.
