When I saw pictures and read the details about this Plantronics Discovery 655 DSP Bluetooth headset I just knew I would have to have one. I have owned several Bluetooth headsets in the past, most made by Motorola, and I have always continued looking for something that would stay in place and sound good to both myself and the people that I call. I just can't seem to find a Bluetooth wireless headset that shines in all of the important areas. They either fit lousy or sound lousy or both! This new headset from Plantronics looked to be the answer to my search for near perfection. It is very lightweight, fits snug in my ear, and has a very impressive appearence. It even comes with a multitude of charging accessories, to allow you to charge from a standard 110 volt household outlet, charge from a USB port on a home or office computer, and even charge from a single AAA alkaline battery. The headset provides very good tonal sound quality to the user and the sound output is quite good for the person on the other end of the conversation. What more could a person want from a wireless headset? How about decent phone to headset reception? Even with my Motorola Razr V3 and Razr MaxxVE cellular phones clipped to the belt around my waist I still experience constant reception problems. There is noticeable crackling and popping sounds and sometimes brief cutout of the conversation. Although the people on the other end of my conversations say that they notice only slight flaws in the sound, I find the amount of noise in the reception to be distracting and very annoying. The proximity of my phone to the headset doesn't seem to be the problem at all. Most of the time the headset is less than 3 feet from the cell phone it is paired with. I have tried the headset with both my work phone and personal phone, as well as with my wife's phone. Changing phones has no effect on the reception problems. To add further frustration, the headset does not work properly with the voice-dial feature of my phones. All of my previous Bluetooth headsets would allow you to push the call button, which would prompt the cell phone to activate the voice-dialing feature. This Plantronics model requires you to manually activate the voice-dial feature from the telephone itself or to punch in the phone number yourself. This really prevents me from using the headset as a safer means of calling from my car while traveling. I constantly receive compliments from friend and coworkers regarding how sleek the headset looks. But that just doesn't offset all of the shortcomings this headset has in terms of reception and functionality. The Plantronics Discovery 655 has a great look and an abundance of "extras" that are included in the package. However, if you are looking for reliable Bluetooth headset that will offer great sound and above average reception then I would recommend that you look elsewhere. I still give this item an overall rating of 3 stars because of its design, lightweight, comfortable fit and variety of charging options. They just need to give it better compatability with hands-free voice dialing and much stronger Bluetooth communication with the cell phone it is paired with.

I've been a plantronic man for a while. the last 4 years I have been served well by the products of plantronic. This unit is good, fits my ears well, my main concern was the comfort of the product. I still get the quality sound that I had from the last unit but this one is more pleasing.

I think I paid about $60 for mine. Didn't want to spend $100 or so for a top of the line Bluetooth headset; this was my first one. Aside from the comments others have made about the charger, it's really difficult to get it turned off properly. The manual says to hit the button for 6-8 seconds until the indicator light turns red or until you hear a beep. Okay- done...and my phone tells me it's no longer connected. But then the next time I went to use it a couple of days later, it was dead. Seems that when you follow those instructions, it's off, but it's not really off. The blue light still flashes every few seconds, running the battery down. So, you have to keep messing with the button trying to find precisely the right combination and timing of button-pushing so that it turns off completely, and doesn't turn itself back on again. You have to check to make sure the blue light is no longer flashing so that it really is off. When I'm talking on it, I'm told that I sound really far away, although I can hear just fine. I'm also told that minor little background noises (opening a bag of potatoe chips for example) are really amplified to the person you're speaking with. You do get three different sized rubber earpieces, so you should find a comfortable fit, however the earpiece is designed to come off when you rotate it to a certain postition. That position is extremely close to the position that you would use when it's in your ear, so the earpiece will sometimes come off when you don't want it to. Looks like the price has come down now, so if you just want a cheap Bluetooth headset to leave in your car, and you don't plan to use it much, it may be okay. If you're someone who spends a lot of time using one, however, you'll want to keep shopping.

This bluetooth has a long charge life, and the reception is excellent. The problem I have with this product is that it is hard to keep in your ear. The little plastic hook that comes with it pops off and the ear peace falls out if one of the three ear plugs don't fit just right. It also has a charger that is difficult to operate. If it is not placed properly it will not charge. This is more work than it is worth.

The Plantronics Voyager 510 has been an absolute work horse for me for the past nearly 2 years. When I say workhorse I mean it. I put over 5 hours of talk time on this device 5 days a week for well over a year. I used it in a weekly 4 hour commute, during the day in the office, at night to talk to my family from the hotel and a number of other usages. I know this device and using it is as familiar as turning on my blinker in the car.The Good:1. Great noise filtering. The microphone does a great job of filtering out ambient noise including wind.2. The battery is excellent and lasts for days on standby and for at least 6 hours talking.3. Multipoint Technology. This technology rocks. I have both my work (Blackberry) and personal cell phone synched with this device at the same time and can call or answer either without pairing hassles.4. Pairs with a device that it has been setup with by simply pressing the primary button.5. Volume buttons on earpiece.6. Comes with multiple earpieces for comfort.7. Stable in the ear. It doesn't feel as if it will fall out.8. Durable. I used this hard for a few years and it has only now started to fall apart. Still works though.9. Shares common power supply with many other Plantronics devices for ease of power sharing.10. Larger then competitors but very light. The Not so Good:1. It is bigger then most other devices.2. The earpieces are prone to fall out and don't stay secured after about 6 months. As you can see I really don't have much bad to say about this device. I am only now replacing it after 2 years of use and that is because the earpiece fell out and I can't find the pack that came with it. It still works! I replaced this unit with the Plantronics Discovery 925 and I might like that even better. For the money though you cannot beat the Voyager 510 in my opinion. 5 stars!

I have been reluctant to use a bluetooth. I do not like the feel of most headsets in my ear, I am always worried about picking ambient noise, and I don't like walking down the street looking like I am talking to myself. Well, the Discovery 925 answers two of the problems (I still look crazy walking down the street).First off, synching up the Discovery to my Motorola Razr was simple. I just set my phone to look for the bluetooth, held down the two buttons on the Discovery and in a matter of seconds they were synched.Next, I placed it in my ear and was surprised how comfortable it felt. I did have to switch the gel pad for a smaller one. It is nice that the headset comes with three (in different sizes) to choose from.As far as the sound quality I was impressed with how low I was able to speak and still have the person on the other end hear me. Even out in public I did not have to shout over the noise in order to be heard. When I needed to increase the volume, it was easy to locate the button because of the diamond shape of the ear piece.Last, but not least, is charging. Plantronics could not have made this any better. They give you three ways to charge your headset (depending on your environment. First, you are given a standard AC power cord that plugs directly into the unit. Next you are given a USB cord allowing you to charge your earpiece from any USB device (PC, laptop, etc.). Finally, they give to a recharging battery case. This nice looking case not only can store your headset while not in use, but it will recharge your headset via a battery that holds one full charge. This is very convenient if you need yo charge your headset and don't want to bring either cord with you (The case can be recharged by using either cord. All in all I think Plantronics did a great job developing a headset that is comfortable, works well, and is very functional. Is it more expensive than others? Yes, but it seems well worth the price.

I've used this headset for 5 months now. It comes with a variety of ear tips to help fit your ear. Spend some time with each of them to find the most comfortable. Note that with the non-round ones that you can insert them in 2 directions and no one's ears are the same. The tips can be inserted 180 degrees opposite, then you still get the extra rotating "play" they leave you to fine tune it after inserting. I ended up staying with the round one, which is comfortable and yields the flexibility of use on either ear, although I almost always wear it on the same side. I have nearly forgotten it is there and worn it for many hours straight with no discomfort. I will never go back to holding a phone to my head again. When I had a wired headset, I would only ever put it on when I was going to be in the car for a while; it stayed in the car. Now, if I'm not already wearing my headset, I will answer a ringing call with my phone only long enough to get out the headset and punch the button to bring the call to it. My wife thinks I'm weird for putting on the headset to make a call when I have to get my phone out to dial a number anyway (and actually the voice calling works really well on the Samsung!). The fact is that it is so much better sound and more convenient than holding a phone to the side of your head.I have paired it with my Samsung SCH-i730, a Zonet BlueTooth USB Adapter (for game talk via Ventrilo / TeamSpeak), and a cheapo BT phone base station that lets it function with the phone line at home.If I talk too softly, others can't hear me, but I can talk much softer with the headset than when I hold the phone to my head, so it's better than my phone's microphone. It is not the most sensitive microphone compared with the wired professional desk phone headsets at work, but it is one of the best rated for noice cancellation so being able to use it in a noisier environment is priceless. If I have to say something quietly that I don't want nearby people to hear, then I can just cup my hand to one side of my mouth and it directs my voice straight back towards the headset. With this headset, you won't be the jerk standing around yelling on a phone call (but if you are, I hope you get punched!)Quality of sound is great. I only notice stutter (some people call it static but it's a stutter not a hiss) if I get a wall or two or about 25 feet of clear space away from my Samsung. If my phone is charging in my car, I will just set the phone up on my dash and run into a store to get a refill and not lose the signal while I'm inside. Sometimes if certain things touch against the BT antenna part of my phone, I will hear a little stutter. I just move my arm or whatever it was away from the spot and all is well again. The funny thing is, I can't purposely cause this when I try to cover my phone with my hand or arm; it is only in certain circumstances as if it has to do with the wireless signal bouncing around just right to cause stutter.I found I could usually go 2-3 days between charges with my casual cell phone use (~20 min a day?). If you are a heavy cell user, expect about 3-4 hours of talk time in 1 day. If you need more you will have to charge this thing halfway through the day. When I started using it with Ventrilo and TeamSpeak, I had to start charging it on my way home from work, as it would only last about 3 hours of talk time after being in standby all day. I have some very good wired headsets for the computer, that I used to use for Internet chatting, but all of them pick up breathing "wind" from my nose. I never noticed that in a conversation with someone, but for gaming you sit and wear it while you're quiet a lot. You want to have it transmit when you talk but not when you sit and breathe. This headset sounds many times better than the wired ones, and does not pick up breathing or background noises unless the speakers get turned up too loud.I ordered a Plantronics USB charger cable, belt clip carry pouch, and an extra pack of eartips from HeadsetZone for a great price. I am not sure if I'd recommend the belt clip if you would tend to lose the headset out of it from a brush against anything that would catch on it. The belt clip leaves about a third of the headset exposed; it's more of a pocket than a case and has nothing but slight friction to keep the headset in it. I almost always have my shirt untucked but I still have to check the headset on my belt often to make sure it isn't falling out. If this concerns you then find something that has a velcro or snapping cover. I already owned a Cigarette-to-USB-power plug, which comes in handy for many USB devices in the car, including the charger cable.

I sold my Discovery 650 and upgraded to the 655 because I thought the DSP would cut the noise in the car. Boy, was I disappointed. Not only did it sound a lot worse to people on the other end, but it sounded a lot more choppy on my receiving end as well.It stays in my ear fairly well, even without the ear loop -- just the eargel. BUT...The eargels unclip too easily when in a pocket, bag, or ESPECIALLY when in the pocket-clip charger. If I have it clipped on my pocket, the eargel faces out and unavoidably rotates to its removal position. When I brush up against anything the eargel flips out. I've lost two eargels now and it just sits in a drawer. They should have designed a better retention mechanism on the eargel with some kind of positive release mechanism, and/or have the eargel facing back when it's in the clip in a pocket so it won't get torn off.I also hated the force required on the buttons. I never used the volume controls (always did it from the phone), and I dreaded getting calls because I'd have to MASH the answer button into my head. One more thing -- It's always getting "unpaired" from my Treo 680. I have to go through the Treo menus to get it to pair again. To be honest, this may have to do with the Treo more than the headset, but the two do not like each other that well. The Discovery 650 without the DSP had much better audio quality, slightly lighter force on the buttons, but the same problems with eargels getting torn off in my pocket.--- UPDATE ---I called Plantronics tech support and they immediately sent me out new eargels. So I'm using it again.

On the strength of the very high rating and huge reviewer feedback here on Amazon, I bought this Bluetooth device -- my first bluetooth headset ever. I finally have a phone that has Bluetooth capability, and I was keenly interested in a wireless headset that wouldn't have the cord tangle issues of corded headsets. This device does exactly what I wanted it to do. It was a piece of cake to setup on my Verizon Samsung u540 phone. You wouldn't even need to crack open the user manual except to discover the 4-digit code you have to plug-in to your phone (it's 0000, btw). After that, it's a snap to turn on and link to my phone. My other important concern was voice clarity, both on sending and receiving. Thus far, after several hours of use, I can tell you that the voice reception I hear is crystal clear. No crackling, no hollowing or echoing. On the other end, I've not had anyone complain about being unable to hear my voice or that my voice is coming across muddled -- interestingly, I've had such complaints while using my old, corded headset! The power button *is* small and it *is* a tad more difficult to depress than you might want, but then, you won't accidentally turn on or turn off this device because of the way it's designed. I agree with others -- turn on the device before putting it on your ear, and do the same when you're turning it off.As for noise canceling, my wife and I tested out this device in very noisy home with four small kids, and I was very pleasantly surprised at how well this headset communicated my voice but not the ambient noise in the room.Using the volume control on the headset was pretty easy to do. Note that you can control voice volume either through the phone handset volume control or the control on this Plantronics headset. If other reviewers are complaining about low volume from this headset, it's likely because one of the two volume controls is turned down too low, or perhaps the mobile phone their using doesn't have much by way of signal output. This Plantronics headset has *plenty* of loud volume if that's what you want.As for ear comfort, I found it to be very comfortable, although I haven't worn it all day long. I talked to a friend for an hour yesterday, and I had absolutely no discomfort at all. The device comes with three earpieces (small, medium and large). I use the medium with great results. The phone fits snuggly on my ear and it doesn't move around at all, although I'm not jogging or even walking much while using it.I like the more discreet look of having the "guts" of this device behind my ear, with a thin microphone on the side of my face, rather than the fat Motorola designs.Other reviewers have cautioned about the headset breaking, so I just take very gentle care while handling it. I suspect I won't have a problem with it falling apart.I can't speak to battery life, because after a lengthy phone call, I just recharge it so it's ready for the next call I might make. Charging it is easy to do and doesn't take long, either. In sum, I'm very satisfied with this device. As long as it doesn't break, it's performance and comfortable design make this an excellent choice.

I bought the Plantronics Discovery 925 for my wife. I was selfish and splurged for myself, buying the new Jawbone 2.0. I felt bad about buying a "superior" product for me, but I rationalized how I needed it more since my job requires more important cell phone communications.Who was I kidding? Not only does my wife talk more on her cell, but she has more background noise to block out while shuttling our two boys (6 and 3 years old) all around town.I initially set-up her Plantronics Discovery 925 with my iPhone and used it for a week. It was easy to set-up, simple to use, light weight and real comfortable in my ear. Plus, the sound quality on both ends was great. The sound on my end was better than using the cell phone directly and the sound for my callers was almost as good. Most callers never mentioned the sound and when I asked about it, they usually said it was great. Once in a while, people thought I sounded a little like being in a cave, but that was the exception, not the rule. Overall using it was a great experience for a novice headset user.A week later, my new Jawbone arrived and I passed the Plantronics Discovery 925 to my wife. From the start I was unhappy with the new Jawbone. I didn't like how it clipped over my ear, plus the back of the unit rubbed against the outer part of my ear. But worst of all, the sound was terrible compared to my 925. Jawbone is known for sound quality and noise cancellation, but it was no match for the 925.I am returning the Jawbone and I bought a second Plantronic discovery 925 for myself. Serves me right, so next time I'll splurge on my wife...

I've been a big fan of Plantronics products for some time. They make a-lot of commercial communication equipment for aviation, dispatching, etc. and I've used some of them in those capacities. The kind of commitment to quality it takes to maintain those markets shows up strongly in their Bluetooth Headsets. I had been using their "Voyager 510" Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth Headset with Multipoint Technology [Retail Packaged] headset for a year and have never had a single complaint. When asked to review this product, I thought it would be hard to live up to the Voyager's performance, but the "Discovery 925" handled it with ease. This is a new idea in Bluetooth headsets. It is ultra light, sharp looking and meant to be worn for extended periods without discomfort. For the first time in my experience there is no "over the ear" sling or hard "loop" to snag on your hair, jewelry or rub your ear the wrong way. The 925 fits inside your ear and at about 1/3 of an ounce, you hardly know it's there. It comes with three sizes of gel eartips that I would think would fit just about everyone. The mic boom is contoured to follow the curve of your cheek. I am a very large man and this headset fits me like a glove. I also had my much smaller friend try it (with a different eartip) and it fit her equally as well. The ease of connection and sound quality is pure Plantronics. If you've used their Bluetooth headsets before and liked them, the 925 will not disappoint. If you're new to Plantronics, I would suggest giving them a try. They tend to cost a bit more, but in this case you really do get what you pay for.

Summary: I've had the Discovery 655 for two weeks now and I'm very happy with its audio, microphone, and wearability, particularly relative to the the Nextlink BlueSpoon product (now badged as a Radio Shack VoiceStar product), which is the other "in-ear" bluetooth I've had. The in-ear models are preferable to me because I wear glasses. I recommend the 655 to anyone, with only significant drawbacks in battery life and unnecessary complexity in recharging. Detail follows...Wearability: (4/5) It stayed in my ear securely walking through the airport, getting into and out of the car, etc. -- all without the optional ear loop. Comfortable enough and light enough that I often forget it is in my ear. The mid-size ear bud worked for me. The BlueSpoon product is slightly better and more secure, but the 655 works fine. Great for people with glasses.Audio quality: (5/5) Both the incoming and outgoing audio quality are far superior to Nextlink/VoiceStar. The VoiceStar (and to a lesser extent the BlueSpoon) incoming audio was constantly crackling to the extent that it was unbearable. 655 is very good. My wife tells me that I sound very close to handset quality when I use the 655, and it even works in mild wind. The DSP drowns out some background airport/airplane noise, but not a lot. The audio from the headset was plenty loud, and I rarely have to turn my BlackBerry volume up over halfway when using the 655. With the BlueSpoon, I was at max volume or one away from max volume all the time, rendering the BlueSpoon useless in loud environments like the airport or in the wind walking from the office to the car.Cost/Value: (5/5) If you get the good deal through Amazon (around $70) it is well worth the price and functionality you get. BlueSpoon/ VoiceStar was close to the same price with audio only half as good as the 655. I wouldn't pay the $120-150 that some retail sites are asking for this product.Buttons: (5/5) Yes, they are more difficult to push than the BlueSpoon or other over the ear Bluetooth headsets, but it doesn't bother me at all or knock the headset out of my ear when I push them.Battery life: (3/5) Doesn't last nearly as long, both in talk time and standby time than the BlueSpoon. I didn't rate it lower because it is a known trade-off for getting DSP. The 655 also offers you the option to turn off the DSP to save battery life. Haven't tried it yet.Charging: (4/5) The ability to charge via a USB cable is a big plus, but the BlueSpoon USB charging was so much more simple. The 655 requires that you carry around the extra charging "sleeve," and to use the USB charger, you have to snap on an extra extension to be able to plug in the small USB end of th cable. The BlueSpoon headset simply had the small USB plug built directly into the headset, so no extra parts necessary. However, the sleeve does allow for the extra functionality of being able to recharge via the AAA battery snap on attachment. The 655 sleeve also seems to have fixed the loose fit problems that plague the 640/645 based on the 640/645 reviews I've read.Looks: (5/5) Much less bulky than over the ear headsets and it looks very sleek and modern. Very nice.Misc:- The 655 will blink a different number of times when you turn it on to let you know approx. how much battery life is left -- very handy.- There is a slight delay between when you place your call and when the 655 starts transmitting audio to your ear -- usually about one ring. Nearly all calls end up ringing a couple times, so this didn't create any issues for me.

I must say that I could not believe all the 5 star ratings till I got my own Plantronics 510. This simply must be the best on the market and here are my reasons as compared to the Motorola HS820 and the New Jawbone 2:1. Quality: The sound is exceptionally crisp and clear. My best critic is my wife so I used her as my final deal breaker decision maker. I called her and she could not believe the clarity. She said it was clearer than the Motorola phone or the other headsets (more on that).2. Sound cancellation: I tested this set outside, in a quiet space and in a room with the television on a high volume. The sound cancellation is simply one of the best. When the tv volume was at its highest (really loud) and standing 2 feet away it was coming across as a background sound and was more than acceptable.3. Distance: I placed the phone in the center of my 1st. floor house and walked around testing the reception from a distance. It was clear from over 30 feet away and through walls. I knew when I needed to get back into range when it had a bit of static.4. Comfort: I can wear this unit ALL day with no discomfort. It is lighter than it looks and the foam earpieces fit well and are soft.5. Durability: This unit can withstand my dropping it and simply putting it in my pocket. Nothing dainty here.6. Price: Jawbone 2: $135; Plantronics 510: $45.99 with free shipping. And it arrived in 3 days!!!7. Technology: Tested and true.Regrets: That I could not give it 10 stars! This unit is a keeper and well worth the price.Th

What can I say, this bluetooth is comfortable to wear, cool to look at and it comes with everything you need (you won't be looking for a case to keep it in, etc.).First off, this bluetooth is different than what I was used to in that it does not hook over your ear, but it goes inside your ear. It comes with three different size plastic (comfortable) tips that you can slide on/off the bluetooth in order to fit in your ear. And although I was not sure it would work, it does! Size medium comes on the headset.Setting it up is a breeze. Although I had to look at the commands for working the volume, etc.It comes with a case, and the case also doubles as a charger! You can charge the case, and the case will hold one full charge for the headset, so that when you put the headset in the case it will charge...AND it will not overcharge so you don't have to worry about overcharging the battery! Naturally it comes with a AC charge cable to connect to the case or you can directly charge the headset. The case is a hard case with a puffy outside that feels good in your hand (one of those cases you like to squeeze).Wearing the headset it took me a while to adjust the headset towards my mouth. Otherwise I sounded like I was talking from a tunnel. And here is where I took one star away as I found that if I did not position it properly people had a difficult time hearing me. But once you position it in your ear (and don't move quickly to jar the headset) it's fine.

There is little to dislike about this device. It is lightweight. It is comfortable. The battery lasts a long time. It fits in my ear like it was made for it. In fact, I can shake my head rapidly and it still stays in there. It comes with a carrying case. It is made by Plantronics!!!!Yes, if you can't tell, I can only rave about this product. I had an older Plantronics from back when they started getting popular. It was pretty good but after a while I just didn't dig the way it hung off the top of my ear. Technology has improved so I wanted to give the last and greatest a spin around the block. And I'm glad I did. I'm never going back to my old bluetooth device.Partnering it with my phone was a cinch. It took about ten seconds and I was using it right away. The voice clarity is pretty good. I've used it while working in my yard, driving, shopping, and walking and nobody has complained about the voice quality. Even in crowded and busy areas I've never had problems hearing or being heard. If I had any complaint it is the case. This is not easy to put it in or take it out without pressing the buttons of the bluetooth. Its a novel idea since the carrying case is also a battery charger, but I just wish it wasn't so complicated to put it in and out. I actually don't even use the case unless I need to give it an extended charge.

The title of this review basically summarizes my experience with this unit. In a nutshell, it's handsome, comfortable, easy-to use and the incoming audio is great. Plenty of volume, nice and clear. That's where the good times end...and rather abruptly at that. After intensive field testing in varied environments, with multiple phones and hundreds of callers, the overwhelming consensus was "dude, I can't understand you...you're all muffled"...here's the short list of some of the more amusing comments: "you sound like you're raking gravel", "are you standing near a river that's rushing by you?", "are you hiking through some kind of slush or maybe mud?", "are you operating a piece of heavy earth moving equipment?"...it's hard to believe the positive ratings are for the same device. Maybe all of the positive ratings are from people that use it sitting at a desk in a quiet office all day. If you plan on using this in the car while you're on the move, the combination of poor, muffled sound and horrific background noise will make you very unpopular with the people on the other end of the phone. Save your money....don't buy this piece of junk.

I was looking for a good Bluetooth headset and I had been told time and again that the Plantronics Discovery series was a good safe bet to look for. Once I heard about how the better ones had DSP (the Digital Signal Processing that allows perfect digital crystal clear reception) I had to get this. After all the more expensive, the better it is... right?Once I got this, and plugged it in, I was convinced. It did feel strange to plug the phone directly into me, I found it was an amazing experience. Every phone call felt like it was made directly in my head.I will suggest this to all my friends and family.

I think the people who complain about being unable to charge the device did not read the manual. Do they realize that it is not supposed to stay red but to flash intermittently while charging? I had no problem whatsoever charging this headset. The best part of this headset for me is that it comes with the small ear piece. My ears and ear canals are very small and everything falls out. I wear glasses so I don't want to wear a loop over my ear.It sounds great to me and those I am calling.I reccommend this headset.

Don't even think about buying this product; there is a huge design flaw that severely outshadows any of the positives. The gel ear buds do not stay on the headset. To put them on and take them off, you put the bud in the "neutral" position then push it on and then twist it to the right or left, depending upon which ear you prefer. The problem is that the bud keeps rotating back to neutral and then falls right off. I complained to the Plantronics company and they told me where I could purchase replacement parts! I told them I wasn't paying for replacement parts for a product that was very poorly designed in the first place. This headset has been returned but I just wanted to warn everone who had read the excellent reviews about the product to not even consider this one.

OK, I splurged. I usually don't spend this much on a headset. I've actually owned a ton of them over the past few years (check out some of my older reviews). Most of them were cheap sub-$30 headsets. Let me just say, "I can't believe the difference."After doing some research here and on Plantronics' website, I pulled the trigger. I'm using this with two phones; my Sony Ericsson W580i and my BlackBerry 8310.Pros:- First off, the sound quality of this headset is awesome. It is crystal-clear on my end and zero-complaints on the other. No more sounding like I'm in a tunnel. I assume this is the AudioIQ technology doing it's thing.- Secondly, the headset is super-lightweight and this equals comfort. I was skeptical at first about just popping this in my ear without a hook. Once I picked the right size ear-thingy, it fits perfect and I can barely notice it's there. Even after a few hours of wearing it (I know, I'm a geek) I barely notice it. I can do the "shake-your-head" test and this stays in place.Cons:- The charging "case" is cool, but I have a hard time getting the headset out of it sometimes. Thankfully, I can just plug the adapter right into the headset, bypassing the need for the extra bulk.- The price; but honestly, after spending more on a collection of "less impressive" headsets over the past few years, you really do get what you pay for.Highly recommended for it's sharp looks, perfect clarity and ultra-comfort.

Use Update:I had the mic on the Voyager 510 crap out on me in November. I used Plantronic's website to e-mail the problem and the service tech gave some ideas for fixes. After none of the fixes worked, I returned the product and they replaced it with a brand new one for free. I beat this thing up for several hours a day, so while I wasn't pleased about the mic dying, I was very pleased with the Plantronics service. After sending my old headset in, I had a new one within a week.Original ReviewThis is a review of the Plantronics Voyager 510 based on my comparative experience with this headset against a Motorola H500 - possibly the most popular headset out there. It was/is being used with a Motorola E815 cell phone on the Verizon Wireless network. I am on the cell phone for business over 1000 minutes per month.Comfort:I've seen a few reviews where this headset is less comfortable. Compared to the Motorola H500, I think it's much more comfortable as it's more flexible (doesn't look like it in the pictures though). The grasp of the ear clip is not as strong, and that means it might feel a bit less secure on your ear, but it's also wearable for long periods of time. The Motorola H500 was tight enough on my ear that after 30 minutes, the pressure on the back of my ear was painful - not good when conference calls are usually over 30 minutes long. Additionally, with 3 sizes for the ear-piece, once I got the correct size attached to the Voyager 510, it helped make the whole set fit more snugly and securely.Listening Quality:With the Motorola H500, major static was present even with the phone held right next to the headset. None of that is present with the Plantronics Voyager 510. I should note that in terms of volume, the Voyager was significantly less loud until I got the right ear piece in. Not that the ear piece is snug (and not a few millimeters away from my ear) I can hear just fine. As the Motorola comes with a single ear piece, I never got it quite so dialed in.Transmission Quality:Often people who I called complained about the incredibly bad quality of my signal with the Motorola H500. When I was in a perfectly silent room, the H500 was ok. When in the car, it was almost totally unsuable if I had to speak. I'm not sure if the Plantronics noise reduction really works, but people don't complain about my voice quality, and I certainly don't have to yell to be heard.People noted that they received me louder with the Motorola, but were happier with the Plantronics as I didn't cut in and out.Range:Range was poor on the Motorola. If I had the phone clipped to the belt and the H500 on the opposite ear (so my body was between the phone and headset), the reception would cut in and out. If I walked more than 10 feet away from the phone, the H500 would cut in and out. With the Plantronics, I can walk up to 20 feet away without problems. The only issue is if there is a wall between the phone and the Plantronics. Otherwise reception and range are much better than the H500.Controls:Yes - everyone is right about the on/off button being poorly placed and not user friendly on the Plantronics Voyager 510. That said, I don't use it anyway in favor of just controlling functions from the phone. The only headset functions I use on the headset are increasing the volume control which works well and easily. One nice feature of the Plantronics is the ability to switch a call back to the phone. This was not available on the Motorola. User friendly controls go to the Motorola in this case, but just barely because of the way I personally use the headset.Overall I obviously am keeping the Plantronics. It's larger than the Motorola by far and less stable on the ear. However, it's more comfortable, has much better reception and transmission quality. 2 thumbs up!!

I have been a fan of Plantronics for many years. They consistently provide a quality product that is worth the extra costs. The only other bluetooth headset that I have every liked beyond the Plantronics brand was an LG which got lost within days due to it's size.I bought this as an upgrade to my Voyager 510 which is a good head set but the 925 is NOTICEABLY clearer in voice (verified by call recipients) and sound. The wind reduction capabilities seem to be superior as well. One reason I would not give this five stars is that is does become uncomfortable after wearing for several hours. Not much of a surprise as I have never owned a bt headset that was entirely comfortable.Another reason for the four stars is I do question the plastic ear gels. There is not a very good description on how to install/change them. I ended up having to look very carefully at the pictures to install them correctly. In addition the ear piece does have a tendency to "slip" and your cool looking headset may dork you out by moving to a 90 angle rather than the 45 degree angle it should be.Finally, while the charging case is uber cool, it is sometimes hard to insert and remove the headset. Practice makes perfect.I have an iPhone and this works very very well with it.

I had a bluetooth earpiece I got when I bought my last cell phone. It was...awful. The sound quality was so bad, I never bothered using it. One awful thing about bluetooth is walking around with it and looking like you're talking to yourself. But there is one thing worse: constantly saying, "What? What?" because neither you nor the person at the other end of the phone can HEAR you (and everyone really thinks you're nuts. This is something you want to do in private!)I never bothered buying another bluetooth headset. Enough was enough! But this Plantronics is the exact opposite of my original device. I called my husband to test it out. He not only didn't know it was bluetooth, he thought I was calling on the landline house phone!Yes, it really is that good. Easy to set up. i will say, though, that the ear piece is a tad tight. The upside of that is that it really isn't gonna fall out, and you can hear with crystal clarity.Oh, yeah, and it looks pretty cool. I'm still not a fan of bluetooth talking (it's just rude when you're standing on line in the supermarket),but if you have to continually talk on the phone and you want it hands-free, THIS is the headset you want.

This is a great Bluetooth headset although it's a bit pricey, I still recommend it.It's so much easier to take a call by just placing a headset like this in your ear, rather than having to fool around with also clipping it around your ear too. I'm speaking from experience here. I had a Jawbone before and totally hated how I had to fumble with getting it around my ear all the time. The sound quality of the Plantronics Discovery 925 is quite good as is the noise cancellation and battery life is tops, way better than my Jawbone. It even comes with a seperate battery (built in to the case) so you can charge it while on the go for even more talk time-a very nice touch. After trying several different Bluetooth headsets over the years, this is the one that I'm keeping. Plantronics seems to make the best ones I've tried including Jawbone, Motorola and Samsung.UPDATE - AUGUST 2008: I am now using the BlueAnt Z9i and am happier with it mainly because it has better noise cancellation.

I purchased my first Voyager 510 approximately 18 months ago and unfortunately lost it in a grocery store parking lot. The second replacement (ordered from here)- no one could hear me - the sound was muffled, choppy - almost as if the noise cancellation was hyper-active. I read a review on here that Plantronics had permitted some lemons to get loose on the market. So shame on me.. I ordered a third one, thinking that the odds of my getting another lemon would be fairly astronomical.Well.... I'm not going for the "some lemons" theory now. Plantronics had an excellent product and they have mucked it up. I'm beginning to think it is a case of planned obsolescence. I have a friend who still has their original - still works great and has no reason to replace it. Plantronics will make money from this model as long as the Amazon ratings stay high..even though the ones they are manufacturing now are junk.

Lives up to the hype - the volume is amazing with my iPhone. At times, the max volume on the headset is so loud it's painful. I've never had to turn down the volume on my cell phone before! If you drive a mid-size SUV like I do, believe me when I say this headset is the cure for road noise. It's been a while since I've used a Bluetooth headset and my ear is a little sore from it. It's very light and comfortable but without any over-the-ear support, all the weight is on the inside of your ear. However, one of the major benefits of this is you can put the headset on in a flash. It's easier/quicker to answer a call with the headset than with the iPhone.I docked the headset 1 star for a few reasons:1. The eartips are very fragile. Be careful! I was extremely cautious (I just spent a lot of money on the thing) and I still managed to rip the small eartip while putting it on the headset. I had previously reinstalled the medium eartip and had a feeling the small would rip so I was careful and, well, it was just too fragile and ripped.2. The accessories are not available yet. No car charger and no USB lanyard even though they have part numbers and are listed in the manual.3. No way to buy replacement eartips (yet?).

I have been more than disappointed with this Bluetooth device.First, the call volume is so low that it must be increased on every call, meaning you usually lose the first few words a caller speaks. Also meaning you usually won't know WHO is calling you until you ask them to repeat.Second, reception is very poor. Even with my iPhone clipped to my belt, reception AND transmission is garbled to the point where turning the Bluetooth off and speaking on the phone itself becomes necessary to avoid frustration.Third, even with three different ear attachments, it is very uncomfortable.Would I buy this product again? Would I recommend it to a friend? My recommendation is to stay as far away from this gadget as you can. In fact, I would like to say, "Hey, Plantronics, stick it in YOUR ear!"

First, this is now an excellent headset. Here is what I like...I like the fit around the ear. I forget I have it on. Others have been painful after a while or didn't feel like they fit well. I wear this for hours when I am working at home and don't remember I have it on.The sound quality is excellent. I get a lot of comments on how good it sounds (typically, "I thought you were on your home phone!"). The calls sound great on my end too. The calls transfer well from handset to headset and back without issue. Now the dark side of the story:I purchased the Black and Silver Version (Windsmart, Made in Mexico, 04-07 manufactured date)from Amazon. As the instructions said, it went into pairing mode immediately after I turned it on. This is a new feature to help you get started. The unit paired up to my Samsung u740 quickly and worked well. I was happy for about a day. Then the wife wanted to try it with her phone (also a u740).The headset would not go into pairing mode. I got on the Plantronics site and worked with Customer Service. They walked me through the exact same procedure that was in the user manual. Nothing. They also walked me through a reset. No change. Now I couldn't even us the unit with my phone.I send this one back to Amazon and get another. Same issue. Customer Service this time insisted that I send it in for warranty replacement instead of returning this one to Amazon. By now I am ready to return this and go elsewhere. The only thing stopping me was the "live" comparison someone put on their website. We listened to about 12 different recordings of this guy using the headsets in his car (window up, window down, AC on & off, radio on & off, etc.) and were SOLD that this was the best.Okay one more try. Five weeks after sending the unit to Plantronics for warranty work, I got a new one back (made in Mexico, manufactured date 06/07). This one works wonderfully.Lesson learned: I would not have found this out, had I not tried to pair with another phone. Try this with yours today and be sure you can go into pairing mode. It would not be fun to learn this later (i.e. out of warranty) when you have bought a new phone and are trying to get it to pair.Good luck!

I'm mostly happy with this product. I had one before, which I managed to lose. I was happy enough with this headset that I went ahead and purchased this additional one.Good* The audio for me is quite adequate, very little static or interference, unless a solid object is between my phone and the headset (e.g. if the headset is in my left ear and my phone is on my right hip or in my right pocket).* It's small and very portable and unobtrusive.* The "optional" ear hanger works well, I don't see how anyone could feel secure using this headset without it.* I like the fact that I can charge it with my normal phone charging tip for my Treo 755. Now that have two charging sleeves, I leave one in my office and one in my briefcase, which takes up almost no space in the pouch for my Juice 70 universal charger.* They fixed the problem with the headset popping out of the charging sleeve - I had this problem a bit with my old one, but my new one seats in very nicely.Bad:* It's almost too small, making it easy to lose and misplace.* Without the optional ear hanger, I can't see how this would stay securely in somebody's ear - none of the 3 sizes of ear gels worked to hold the headset securely.* The ear gel and ear hanger come off of the headset too easily. It seems that I can't put this in my pants pocket without it coming loose, then I have to fish around for each part individually. I lost an ear gel the other day due to this problem.* The ear gels wear out over time. I had one get so slimy and gunked up that I decided to throw it away and grab another different-sized spare from the package. The good thing about wearing the ear hanger is that I've had good success with all three ear gels, not needing to worry about a tight fit.* I've had some friends and colleagues complain that they can't hear me very well, although others haven't indicated a problem.

This is my second Bluetooth device. The first was also a Plantronics, from Verizon, and while I was happy with the volume, with increased volume did not come increased clarity. I'm hearing impaired, so clarity is something that I'm very concerned about with any hearing device, be it phone, hearing aid, stereo headphones, and especially TV EARS!Anyway, turning up the volume means I'll hear the sounds, but it doesn't always mean that I'll be able to discern them. "Hi, this is J.K. Rowling calling, and I'd like to invite you to tea," could turn into, "Your bowling league called, and said they want some bees." If I'm lucky. I returned the unit I received with my phone (as a matter of fact, I returned all of the accessories Verizon packaged with my Motorola Q - they were all junk) and bought this headset based on the strength of all the positive reviews. After testing it out, I couldn't be happier, and have to add my voice to the chorus of approval. Not only is this headset capable of great volume, it also is extremely clear. To put this in perspective, I have less than 50% hearing in my left ear, and none in my right. I *need* these devices to work, and work well. Using the headset in my left ear (of course), I called my roommate, who is very soft spoken. He came in loud and clear. I not only heard what he said, I understood what he said.I tested this again when I had to call Dell for technical support. The person had a very heavy accent, and while talking to him on my Motorola Q, I had a very, very difficult time understanding him. When I switched from the phone to the headset, I was able to (mostly) understand him. To me, that was the real litmus test, because for people like me with nerve damage, clarity is key, and accents are h - e - double toothpicks.Buy this with confidence.

I first bought a headset for $30. It worked well for about 10 (maybe 12) minutes and then fell apart. So, I would not suggest considering anything under $100.Unless you consider this one. When I returned my first headset to Fry's Electronics I asked them what their most popular model was. The sales guy said it was the Plantronics 510. I tried it on and it felt really good. I've been using it for about two months now and I love it to pieces. It works as well now as it did the moment I bought it (actually, better, because it needed a charging).Positives:1) Comfort. This was the biggest attribute I was looking for as I wear this a lot. After putting it on I usually forget it is there within two minutes. It is light weight and very easy on the ears. I only remember when somebody calls me and I hear the beeping in my ears. With a flick of the wrist, this easily converts between the left and right ear and both feel extremely comfortable.2) Sturdy. I travel a lot and airports are not kind to any belongings, especially ones crammed into a bag. But this thing has taken its lickings and keeps on going. Must better than the first one I bought which fell apart over nothing.3) Great sound quality. I've used this at airports, casinos, and convention centers. I can always hear my party without any problems and I've never had anybody complain that they can't hear me.4) Simple to work. Probably the most difficult thing about this is getting it recognized by the phone. And that isn't complicated at all as that only took me 2 minutes, and most of that was searching for directions on how to do it. Picking up the phone is as easy as hitting a button. On a side note, I have two Bluetooth cellphones and I can switch between the two automatically without any hassle. Because of this ease of switching over I am considering getting the phone base so I can use this on my office line at home as well. I know somebody who uses it and she has no problems with it.Negatives:1) I wish there was a way to turn off the blinking blue light. It drives me crazy especially while driving at night. Half the times I see it blink I think I'm getting pulled over. Also, it keeps blinking whether you are using it or not so I usually cover it with a hand towel when it is charging at night. But this seems to be inherent of any bluetooth device.2) Ummmm.... I can't think of any other negatives. So, I highly suggest checking this one out. I can't say that this is for everybody because I've learned that no two ears are exactly alike. The biggest thing I was looking for was comfort. While this is completely comfortable for me it might not be for you. But if you find it comfortable then I would HIGHLY recommend picking this up over anything else especially since the price is soooo right.

I can hear extremely well with this headset, and friends don't complain so I assume it transmits just as well. The case, which holds a full charge, is very attractive leather with white stitching, provides nice safe storage and at the same time brings the headset up to full charge. The headset is quite small, and hardly visible behind my hair. I really couldn't think of one thing that could improve the Plantronics Discovery 925!UPDATE MAY 9, 2010: I've bought two of these now. Both quit working within a year. I've tried everything I know to reconnect them, including shutting down and restarting both the ear pieces and my Razr phone. No luck. They appear to be dead. Changing my rating from 5 starts to one. If anyone can suggest another idea for making it reconnect and work again, I would appreciate your writing a "comment" here which will then be sent to me.

I have been through several of the Plantronics 510 Voyager headsets, not by choice, but because I misplace them - and they are still a great value for the price. I have been through a lot of other non "loop" earpieces by choice, because I feel like I am placing a metal Q-Tip in my ear. This one is much more comfortable, and does not sit so tightly in the ear. It's very light and I have no complaints with the fit and feel. There are three ear piece sizes to choose from. I went with the small for a while, then settled on the medium. The cons I have is the same as one other reviewer - wind noise. You can't use this outside if the wind is even at 5mph. One other con I have is sometimes I get a strange "robotic" sounding voice, but it corrects fairly quickly. One last nit pick, I'd like to be able to get the voice a little louder, but I think that is more on my phone. However, the 510 was louder.Overall, very happy with it and would recommend it.

Plantronics Discovery 925 Bluetooth Headset - Black is a very stylish headset. It is easy enough to get up and running without even reading the instructions. [I did scan them.] My Verizon/LG phone found it easily. It has very good sound in my house or car, but outside--I could hear noise from the wind. I think that is not an unusual problem. It came with three sizes of clear plastic covers that fit in your ear. I'm using the smallest one. It takes a little getting used to in your ear. It feels like it will fall out, but it hasn't yet. Also, sometimes, it is so comfortable, that I don't even notice it and other times it feels funny and a little annoying. It is nice that there is nothing for my lanyard or glasses to get caught on.I like the little case that it can be charged and stored in. I find myself putting my headsets in my pocket, so a case is a real plus. Overall, I like this headset a lot.

Elegant, and seems to work well, and my callers say the in-car noise suppression works so well they didn't think I was in the car. But, I have not been able to get the 925 to work with the voice-dialing/command feature of my Blackberry 8310. Nothing at all seems to get recognized, regardless of whether it is in a noisy environment or a quiet office. The 2 other Bluetooth headsets I have tried (Blueant Z9 and an older $30 Motorola folding headset) work perfectly with this feature, as do my wired Plantronics headsets with noise suppression. So I am hoping Plantronics support can come up with a fix, since California requires hands free (which I assume means voice dialing as well) effective July 1.The Blueant Z9 doesn't have as good voice quality (my brother said it ensures short conversations from my car) and people say it can be very loud on the receiving end, so that's not the ideal solution either.

Not sure if this is a glitch with the iphone or the BT.

I had a Jabra before this Plantronics which I had to order through our approved office supply vendor. The Jabra sound quality wasn't great but the piece was durable and talk time reasonably long. I bought the 655 and was mostly pleased with the sound quality. However, the ear gels would fall off, I needed to replace them through e-bay; the talk time lasted merely 60-90 minutes maximum (charging both via AAA battery and 120 AC); and the ear loop finally fell off and couldn't be found. I called Platronics to find out how to get an ear loop and used my call to outline my disappointment. They said the talk time should be 3-4 hours and they would send me a new one which they did. I just rcvd so unable to see if talk time is any better. Kudos to Plantronics customer service.... This is they type of service that will get me to buy another product from them.

It fits easily into my ear, and helps to block out unwanted noise. I was surprised how securely it stays in place. I especially like the clever case which not only protects the earpiece, but recharges it as well! It's easy to throw in a messenger bag to carry with me. This was well worth the cost!

I bought the Plantronics 655 after reading the rave review by CNET and also for the accessories that comes with it. I use it with my Nokia 6110 as a hands free device while driving. The sound quality is poor(soft and crackles) and the connection always drops even though my phone is just besides me inside the car.I also owned a Plantronics 510 and I must say that it is a lot better. The sound is loud, clear and the signal is more stable. The only complaint that I have about the 510 (and it applies to the 655 as well) is that when I receive an incoming call and if the headset is not already on, it does not always automatically pick up the call.I would not recommend the 655.

Before I purchased this product, I had already purchased three other headsets but none of them worked good (prices were higher). Until I went on line and checked CNET and they recommended this product, so I went ahead and purchased it. It is really a good product. The price is right. The ear piece is the best that I have ever tried. Sometimes I even forgot I have it on my ear for hours. Go ahead and get one.

I have tried this, jawbone II and plantronics 520 Voyager. Plantronics 925 just didn't have the loudness nor did the caller sound "real". I have been very impressed with the plantronics 520 and have kept that one for daily use.

Using this headset with my Nokia 6126, the other party hears my voice just as clearly as when I speak directly into my phone. They can't tell any difference and I can hear the other party, even better. There's no static, hissing or buzzing as long as the phone is within a couple of feet of the headset and mostly unobstructed (desk or shirt pocket: good, pants pocket: not so good). The gel earpiece is comfortable and snug. Sometimes I don't even use the removable ear hook (unless I'm moving around a lot). All the charging options (AC adapter, USB power, or AA battery sleeve) are great but I normally just keep my headset in the AC adapter sleeve when not in use. I spoke with Plantronics tech support and they said it was OK to do that because there's an automatic shutoff feature that prevents over-charging. Tech support spoke English as a primary language (at least the person I spoke with). They were friendly, knowledgeable, and didn't keep me waiting.I don't write many reviews but this product is exceptional. I highly recommend it.

I live off Bluetooth and this is by far the best I have used! I have tried several other manufactures (Motorola, Jabra, Samsung, even other (newer) Plantronics...) and Plantronics has outdone themselves this time. I would highly recommend this to anyone. I have actually purchased 2 additional just incase I forget it at home or work.Pros:* Extremely clear and loud reception for both parties* Easy setup* Multi-point technology (I have this headset connected to my personal mobile and work phone system, using the additional adapter and lifter, and it connects automatically to both devices when in range)* Very secure feeling and lightweight - There have been numerous times when I have had to feel me ear to see if it is there!! Extremely comfortable!!!* Windsmart/Noise Canceling feature is great - I can be in the car with the window down or walking in a windy environment and the other party can't tell I am on a headset...I love that!* Only takes 2 hours to fully charge and the charge lasts several days with heavy usageCons:* Some of the buttons (especially the on/off, which is rarely used) are small and can be difficult to use is you have large fingers...* A little bulky compared to other (inferior...haha) headsets out thereIf you are looking for a quality Bluetooth headset, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you give this a try!

Can't get enough of my Discovery 925! :) Its been connected to my iPhone and going all guns blazing. Good battery life, excellent sound and very comfortable. If you're shopping around for a reliable bluetooth headset that fits perfectly and delivers good sound with some other great features thrown in, I recommend the 925.
