I've had this headset for almost a year now, and it has generally met my expectations: good sound, comfortable for longer (1-2 hour) teleconferences, durable. The only drawback is its fairly limited range -- I can get only about 20 ft away from my computer (not quite to the bathroom down the hall!) before the signal blips off. This isn't a huge drawback, but it'd be nicer if I could walk around my entire (relatively small) apartment and still be connected. On the other hand, when I come back within range, the headset reconnects automatically.

I work on a call floor selling alarm systems for vivint. Since vivints enviorments motto is "work hard, PLAY hard" we are very loud and energetic. This headset cancels out at least 90% of background noise and increases sound from the caller on the other end of the phone with AMAZING clarity! I would never use anything else!

simply put... they dont turn off. you cant charge them while they're on, charging them doesn't automatically turn them off.... so you get 1 shot and then you might as well throw them awayif you leave them unplugged for about 3 days the battery will fully drain so it cant stay on, then you can charge it.... but really? for the money and wireless feature, you probably want to use them more then 2 hours a week

I bought this headset for work. I do customer service over the phone using X-Lite on the computer. I wanted a wireless headset that would not hold me down. I got it on time and used it at home to watch a few movies on my computer. Was very impressed by the sound quality. The headset fits perfect over my ears and is very comfortable. After using it for pleasure it was time to put it to work. I work a 8 hour day and was scared the battery life was not going to last, but it did. I charged it over night before I went to work and had zero problems all day. I have been using it for about 3 weeks now and it still works great. Customers can hear me clearly and I can hear them. Very happy with this purchase. Thinking about getting a 2nd pair just to keep at home for gaming and movies. For the price, this IS the best headset.

Okay so i bought these headphones as a Christmas present to myself, and there hasn't been a single day where i haven't used these. I mainly use them for watching videos and gaming and what i can say is that these overall are definitely worth the buy. Ive had them for about 3 months now and i have 0 complaints about them so far.Pros:-They were extremely easy to setup when i first got them, just plugged them in and windows 7 recognized it right away and switched the output to them without me having to go into sound settings or anything.-They sound great, and the mic works awesome. people tell me i sound great when I'm gaming-They have pause/play and skip song buttons along with the volume, i thought this was a useful feature.-Range is pretty good, i can go almost all around my house and not lose the connection (i live in a rambler)-Lithium batteries so i can plug it in and charge whenever and not worry about memory effect (real plus in my book)-Comes with a year long warranty-They aren't blue-tooth so there is no pairing involved-Pretty sturdy, I've dropped them a couple times and they are perfectly fine.Cons:-Cant use them while charging-Every so often (maybe once a day) it would cut out for about 2 seconds and reconnect. It wasn't really a bother but i do want to point it out.-Turning them off isn't really clear in the instructions, or it wasn't for me anyway. you need to hold the power button for about 1.5-2 secs.Overall i love these headphones. i use them everyday and they make my life a lot easier.EDIT: 6-2-2011: These headphones still work perfect after 6 months. i have not noticed any battery life deterioration either, i still use these EVERY SINGLE DAY. when these ones finally die out, i will be buying another pair.EDIT: 3-9-2012: The microphone on the original set i purchased broke from flipping it up and down too many times. I was shipped a replacement headset that i believe was refurbished, because I only got 5 months out of it before the microphone on that one broke too in the exact same way. Again, this was with every single day, all day use. The speakers still work 100% fine and ive dropped it a few times and its pretty durable, but just flipping the mic up and down several hundred times took its toll. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HEADSET FOR LONG LIFE.

I had bought this about a year ago and didn't like it. I kept it around as an emergency spare, since I do a lot of Skype calling and presentations. My old stand-by Logitech H530 USB headset stopped receiving mic input. So, i went and got a replacement: Plantronics Audio 646 DSP. This is a behind-the-ear USB gaming headset. Very uncomfortable and low quality microphone. Nobody could hear me, and it sounded like I was in a tunnel. I returned that to the store and got a no-name USB headset that sounded even worse. That was admittedly a wild shot in the dark - sometimes they pay off. I brought those back and traded them for a brand-new Logitech H530. Wow, broken mute and volume down switch. I'm returning that one tomorrow for a replacement.In the mean time, I need to use my old Plantronics 995 for a couple of important presentations.First the good:Very high quality microphone. It makes my voice sound clear and professional.High quality sound -better than any bluetooth and just as good as USBGood isolation. Blocks out any external noise.Now the bad:Range is less than I would think. I can walk around in my office, but not get to the kitchen 20 feet away to get some cool cool water. Still a bit better or the same as Bluetooth.Too tight for someone with a large head.No mute button - you have to lift the mic to mute, and there is no indication that you are muted. The Logitech H530 has an ingenious mute button on the ear piece and red "muted" light on the mic boom.Delay in turning on and off. It's more like "booting" your headphones than starting them. My iMac starts almost as fast.NO VOICE FEEDBACK! You don't hear your own voice in the headphones. This is very distracting and unnatural, causing you to speak louder than necessary.There is a long delay when you force feedback with a program. I can use the "monitor" switch on WireTap, for example, and the delay is several seconds, which is impossible to work with.You can't use the headsets when plugged-in to USB and charging, rendering the unit useless if it runs out of charge.Heavy and unattractive. "Cans" are not supposed to be attractive, which is fine, but these look straight out of Logan's Run in some 1970's version of a dystopic future.No battery indicator.I can't recommend this for daily use. Even for an emergency back-up, it's a bit of a stretch.

After 3 months of use, the following is my opinion on the various aspects of the headset...Battery Life: I use it on average 8-12 hours a day every week day and to this point, I have never had the battery run out while on a call. If I am using it heavily (music or calls) then I will be sure to plug it in every break I take (lunch or bathroom break) though usually I only charge it overnight. The only time I had it die on me was one time when I started listening to music after a 12 hour day of non stop conference calls without charging it in between.Sound Quality: Prior to this device I went through several Sennheiser headsets (PC161 is the latest). I also own a low end set of Sennheiser headphones (HD202). I would say that this set is easily as clear as either of those 2 sets when using it for voice and maybe even a little better. When using it for music, I would prefer the Sennheiser's by a small margin. At first I would switch back and forth but after a week I just stuck with these and I have never been disappointed.Range: If you are looking for a device that you can use while getting your housework done then this is not for you. I have no problems with these when within about 20 feet of the usb dongle but when you get any further they cut out. Though I suppose if you had a completely open room with no obstructions you could get much further away. I bought these because I was sick of the cord on my other one getting wrapped up in my chair wheels and knocking stuff over on my desk. They have done exactly what I needed them to with the benefit of being able to get up and stretch out a little while on a conference call and not having to worry about getting tangled in a cord.Comfort: When you first put these on they feel absolutely great! They fit very tight to your ears and head and block out most of the background noise. However, after you where them for about 6-8 hours your ears will start to hurt pretty bad from the constant pressure. I thought this would get better with time but after 3 months, it hasn't changed much. If you will never wear them for more than 3-4 hours at a time then you have nothing to worry about. If you do need to wear them for extended periods of time you will learn ways of relieving the pressure or just take a break from wearing them for a few minutes here and there. Also, if you are like me and drop your headphones down to your neck when talking in person with someone or walking away from the computer, these make it very difficult for that. The cans are just big enough and the head band is just small enough that they are very awkward around your neck.Buttons: If you ask me, the buttons on it are pretty pointless. Considering you can't use these more than 20 feet from your computer, it's easier to just press a button on your keyboard than to try to remember which button is where on the headset. That said, I have tried the buttons and they do all work.Other: One other thing to consider with all usb headsets when being used with Vista is that Vista only allows one audio device at a time. This means that if you want to be able to switch between this headset and normal speakers plugged into the computer you have to either unplug the usb dongle or go to the control panel and change the default device. This is no fault of the headset but a pain none the less. Windows 7 solves this problem.Conclusion: Really good battery life. Very comfortable for short term use. Excellent signal quality when within 20 feet of usb dongle.While I'm sure there are better wireless headsets out there, there are none in the price range of this one that I could find that compared to this one when you consider all aspects. Some have better range, some have better sound quality, some have better battery life but this one is good at all 3.

I have for years used Plantronics headphones and quite frankly have been impressed with the quality of their product. So when I saw this wireless headset I didn't hesitate to purchase it. I did read all the reviews and did read Plantronics description of it. While the headset works GREAT so long as I am in the same room as the attenna, the range is quite dismal. Plantronics says 40 feet optimal according to conditions, (walls, electronics etc) I cannot get more then 20 feet of use through only 1 wall. The signal evaporates when I am in front of my refridgerator, and I get a lot of "warbling" (what I call it) sound elsewhere. They claim OVER the ear, and this is one point I insisted on, however, not sure whose ears it is covering, but it don't go OVER mine, and I am just an average guy in size, they set ON my ear and after a while, because I wear glasses, the ears start to hurt. Battery life is what Plantronics claims; about 8 hours with continued use, I do use the Mic and Headphones in my support work for an online company. Would I recommend them to someone, YES I would mainly because of Plantronics reputation for a quality product, and because they do what they are intended to do. It is only when you get near the edge of the range that it becomes a problem, and of course, the EAR problem. But I do use them daily for several hours at a time (resting my ears, by taking them off) for brief periods, which does in fact help. My recommendations to Plantronics would be, Make the earpieces BIGGER to accomadate ADULTS, somehow increase the range even through walls, and get a battery life more like 16 hours at a run.

Worth the price! I'm a little cheap so I was holding my breath when I purchased these hoping me they would last, and so far so good. I would have spent much more replacing my cheaper brands every few months. It's been a year and they are in near mint condition, despite multiple drops and practically every day usage. The range is perfect for my one bedroom apartment, where I can walk about freely, in any room and only get miniscule cut-outs. I can do all my chores while on skype with very clear sound. I always recommend these to my friends who are also using the computer 40+ hours per week, and have bought these as a gift as well.

I wanted a wireless headset for Skype; but with reasonable quality for music. I already had a wired Logitech Clear Chat headset which I am delighted with, but I planned to give that to my wife and move myself to wireless.First thing I noticed is that it is heavier. Of course it is, you idiot, it's got to carry a battery. OK, but I hadn't thought of that. Second thing is it clamps on my ears with its big soft cushioned ear-pads so I guess that is why other reviews say it is so comfortable: I find it a bit claustrophobic. But the sound quality is very good for a headset that doesn't claim to be a set of music phones. The controls on the side of are hard to get used to if you are used to the simplicity of a wired set.Then I used it for making calls; and this is what I cannot get used to: the ear-pads are so snug that it is like talking with sinusitis. I have to wear the things half off my ears so that I get voice feedback that doesn't rely on my eustachian tube (links the nose to the ears, for you non-biologists).So I borrow back my wife's wired Logitech whenever I can. You really have to have a very good reason for needing to go wireless: to put up with the weight, the fiddly controls and the speech acoustics. At three times the price of the wired Logitech, I think I made the wrong call.But let's end on a high note. It is very, very good for listening in to conference calls when in airports. The big doughy ear-pads cut out all the surrounding noise - almost completely. But please don't blame me when you fail to hear the last boarding call for your flight before the gate closes.

I've been using this headset for almost 2 years and came here today buy one for my husband. His has quit also at the 2 year mark. While mine is still working I'm sure I'll have to get another soon as well.Yes you heard right. Our pair as lasted 2 years!! We are extremely conscientious about charging to full and then running all the way down. We do use these for 4-8 hours every single day.These are so easy to use. Were there only people who don't suffer helicopter mike at some point in vent. I'm a little hard of hearing for voices but they come through so clear I even use this headset to make phone calls.I wear glasses and I have a large head. In both cases these are the most comfortable muffs I've tried. Before this I'm sure I used every other cheap headset out there for 3-6 months apeice. Some models would cause my glasses to blister my ears!There is no static with this and voices sound so good. It's true that music sounds a bit thin sometimes but I was able to play with my sound settings to compensate and it just sounds really good all the time.It is annoying to turn the headset off and on with the button you hold down but on the other hand muting yourself by turning up the mic boom is a godsend. I love the volume controls as well.It is true usb charges only and you cant hear while its doing that. But even knowing that ahead of time I bought these for an amount I considered a scary splurge lol But here I am buying them again they just rock.

This was bought after buying a Logitech Bluetooth failure.This headset uses USB audio, the included dongle has given me better sound performance than my onboard sound. It fits well, though feels slightly heavy on the top of my head. The padding there helps with this, as well as adjusting the length of the bands to have it balance the pressure on my head.The battery lasts for up to 10 hours for me after charging at least 2 hours. This cannot be used when it is charging, so it is best to have a spare available. I left my current wired headsets in my PC, but must restart any application for it recognize my onboard audio.I find the sound rich enough for my needs. I play games but not at a volume where I would need bass/treble/etc. There is enough bass to make it feel beefy. The microphone tucks away very easily when not in use. I was able to get about 30 m away from my PC before I noticed some issues, so the advertised range may be incorrect.My friends tell me that my voice has much more treble to it, but otherwise clear.This was 20 bucks cheaper than the Logitech failure. I would fully recommend this headset.

Before purchasing this .995 headset, I read many reviews here on Amazon and also had a chance to try a few wire versions from other companies (mainly Logitech). In general, I am quite pleased with this Plantronics headset and have excellent feedback from colleagues that listen to me on the other end of conference calls.Positives:Sound quality > I spend hours each day on international conference calls. People on the calls use a variety of headsets with a variety of quality levels. Consistently, I am told that my voice is always clear and of highest quality. The sound quality on my side listening to the others is of course limited by their end, but I have had no complaints. I often listen to the radio over the Internet (after meetings) and find the quality to exceed my FM stereo for the same radio station.Wireless connection > Since Bluetooth is NOT used, the range exceeds my normal mobile phone and earpiece combination. I can easily roam beyond 12 feet from the base with no issue even moving between rooms. I did add a USB cable extension which allowed me to place the USB dongle on a shelf approx 4 feet above my PC. Doing this allowed me to boost roaming range to up to 20 feet (depending on the number of walls between me and the base). VERY nice!Battery life > I have been able to consistently use the headset purely on battery with either constant radio or phone calls for over 8 hrs. The first day I used it, I exceeded 9 hrs before it died. One thing I have on hand for recharge is an old AC to USB power adapter. For recharge, I do not have to connect to the PC and instead use this direct AC which seem to charge at a higher rate than standard PC USB? Not sure, but recharge time after battery dies seems quick to me!Comfort > overall, the wireless unit is heavier than a wired unit due to the battery. I expected this and it is not a big problem for me. I compared to a Logitech wired unit and found the bulk and the weight of this Plantronic wireless to not be a LOT more than the Logitech wired one.Negatives:Comfort > First an admission - I have a big head. My hat size is 8 1/4 to 8 1/2 depending on when I last had a haircut. This Plantronic headset does tend to press in on my ears a bit. After 3-4 hrs on the phone, I certainly notice the pressure. Removing the headset really shows how much it was pressing! When I am wearing my glasses, I have noticed the ear cuff presses the arms of the glasses into my head almost painfully. I have to adjust my glasses often. I suspect this would be a common problem for any headset that features over the ear fit. I do not like on-ear headsets since those seem to hurt my ears even more! Just be aware of this issue if you wear glasses always.AC power when battery is dead > I do wish there was a way to connect to power and continue use when the battery is dead. It would be ok if there was no charging during this time. I can charge it later. I just would like continued use while temporarily "wired" on AC.Transport > The unit does not fold down very much at all. Packing this up and taking it in my pack with my laptop is not very easy. The headset ends up needing a lot of space simply because it does not fold up much from the normal use configuration. Compare this to a Bose headset which at least will lie flat because the ear cups can turn. Some design improvement in this area would be nice to see in a future version. If you travel often and need to take your headset with you, you might want to consider the extra packing space for this Plantronics unit.Summary: I would definately purchase this one again! Despite the negatives, a very good choice for me (and my big head). I have had many colleagues on conference calls ask me what I am using since the quality is very good and they too have bought one now.

I ordered a Plantronics audio 995 wireless stereo headset, and it works flawlessly.... I like to use a headset to dictate material, particularly in writing letters... It helps in editing and conveying the proper meaning.... I highly recommend this product.

I bought these to use as a VOIP headset. I didn't intend to be listening to music on them, but the sound quality realy surprised me when I did actually listen to the music through these. It was a very nice surprise. As far as comfort goes, I am actually wearing them right now despite not being on a call or listening to music, just because I forgot to take them off. I like them and I would recommend them.The only thing I would like is a way to replace the bulky usb plugin adapter with something low profile. This is about the size of a standard USB thumb drive and I cannot leave it plugged into my laptop if I am traveling. Since the computer effectively becomes my phone, it would be handy to have it be able to travel a little easier.

I bought this headset because I have to have handsfree telephone conversations while working & I wanted to cut the cord. Well, I thought these would fit the bill but they just are not worth it. After having them on for less than 1 hour, which is a very short time for me, my ears were hurting. This is because they don't really go around your ears but sit on your ears. Other than the comfort issues, as others have complained, the battery life is very short & you can't charge them & use them at the same time. WTH were the Plantronics engineers thinking when they designed these?!?! What pieces of c**p!!!I'm returning these & still hoping that I can find a headset that fits my requirements of true around-the-ear speakers & wireless. I wish that I could find a set like my Sony MDR-XB500 headset. They have very comfortable around-the-ear cushions. Hoping for the best!

These headphones are FAN-TASTIC! The only issue I've had thus far with them is that I wear glasses (the thick, plastic framed kind) and after about 10-20 minutes (sometimes more, depending on the position I have the headphones in), they squish my ears in to my head with my glasses in the middle of this sandwich and it starts to really get uncomfortable after a while. Besides that, the sound is fabulous and the mic works well - I use it at work for my Google Voice account to make phone calls and these headphones really are great. I just can't wear them for long periods of time with my glasses on.

As a writer (The Write Words by Jo), obviously I am writing ALOT. A set of good headphones are very necessary. My thoughts are faster than my fingers! The Plantronics.Audio 995 Wireless Stereo Headset works VERY WELL. I use it with Dragon Naturally Speaking Premium 11Dragon NaturallySpeaking Premium 11.Pros: Connects easily via usb. I have no problems when talking, the speakers hear my voice and translate well.Cons: The charging time. Out of the box, make sure you charge the headphones for the good 2-4 hours it recommends. I did 4. Its also easy to forget to turn the headphones off. To turn off, push the button located on the back of the earphone for about 3-5 seconds. If you just push in and out quickly, it wont work. If oyu push it too long, it will start blinking. In that case, just do the push again for 3 -5 seconds.Overall, I'm really happy with these earphones though. The quality is VERY GOOD.

Plantronics is my first choice for computer headsets, I've been using USB corded ones for a podcast I do for 3 years, and listeners can't believe it's regular old <$100 Plantronics gamer-type headset, and not an expensive Snowball or Shure.But I hate being tied to my laptop when having a phone conference over Skype or listening to a podcast (without disturbing my coworkers), so finding this cordless one was wonderful.Sound quality is excellent. The range is decent ... I can move around and go to the next floor even, (as long as I'm not more than 50 ft or so from the laptop above/below) without the sound cutting out. I also love being able to flip up the mic arm to instantly mute myself, and bring it back down to unmute, without the person on the other end being any the wiser. The instant pairing with the USB dongle is great.Bad news is what everyone is saying about the battery/power. Fully charged, it lasts about 2 hours of talk time, I've found. (And it's very easy to forget to turn it off when you take off the headset; you don't see any lights on it.) So you use it a few times for shortish conversations, then one day you're talking to someone, suddenly you can't hear them and they can't hear you. There is no warning that the battery is about to go. And then you have to find the special cable to recharge it, only a foot long, with a miniconnector on one end like a camera charger. You can't talk while it's recharging, even if you could bend your head enough. So you *need* to have another headset ready to hook up.I've also found that the battery sometimes takes forever (> 1 day) to recharge. It's either red (recharging) or it's blue (recharged), there's not indication of how much it's recharged or how long till it's fully charged.My battery just died once again while listening to a podcast, which is why I came here to post a review, and to see if any advances have been made in headset battery science.

This stereo headset is a good investment for those who like to be unteathered from their PC, and want comfort and ease of use in thier headphones.The Good: These headphones work pretty much immediately out of the box. Just plug in the dongle and turn on the headphones, adjust the volume and you are good to go. No congiguration settings are required, although I had to swithch the input/output device in audio properties because I use wired headphones and bluetooth headphones on the same machine. I run Win 7, and started using the headset literally two minutes after unboxing. The sound quality is excellent, both listening and speaking. I use them for Skye and video conferencing such as webinars, etc.The Bad: When I bought this headset, I assumed from the picture that they were ear cup (totally over the ear with pads that surround the ear) headphones. They aren't, they are on the ear type headphones, meaning that the ear pads touch and sit on the ear. I wear glasses, and I have to admit that the headphones get a little uncomfortable for me after about an hour with my glasses on. That is because of the headphones pressure on the ears and the bows of my glasses sitting behind my ears.I would definitely recommend this headset to others with the caveat stated above.

I found value in my Plantronics .Audio 995 wireless headset the moment I put it on my head. Form follows function and I found my new Plantronics headset to be user friendly with an easily accessible control pad located on the outside of the left earphone. To be free of the wire is an indescribable feeling and makes my laptop a truly portable device. I can set my laptop down on any flat surface and enjoy the full use of my hands as I move about without tangling or tripping over a wire while fully enjoying any music stored in my computer. My question is, "Will wonders never cease?" The instructions and clear diagrams for installation of my new Plantronics headset onto my computer was certainly easy to follow and my laptop recognized the new device immediately. In no time at all my new wireless headset was installed. It was too easy. I have an innate fear of messing things up when dealing with anything electronic. Charging the battery built into the headset by just using a little wire to the computer is truly brilliant engineering and totally eliminates the need for a separate battery charging device which is an obvious plus. And when I am off the computer I just connect my laptop to my headset with this little wire; and within an hour or so the battery built into my new headset is fully recharged. I find this feature amazing. The only time my signal gets a little garbled is when I am in the other room with a wall in between and I rotate my head or body; but it is only for a little instant and the signal comes back strong as ever. I would buy this headset again. And the value received for the money spent is more than fair and equitable. I expected to pay much more for a device of this engineering quality. I have had this device for a week now and I find it indispensable. Bought this headset after I was quite happy with a wired Plantronics but wanted the flexibility of wireless.It worked well for a few minutes, then connection between the headset and USB plug dropped. After many attempts I managed to pair the device again. It worked well for 2 minutes, and dropped connection again (all while sitting in front of my computer). I then tried another computer, and the problem persisted. Went online and found that many are experiencing the same issue, and Plantronics don't seem to have a solution (or care, as they haven't responded to many forum posts on their site). I should have done a more thorough research before buying this product.I strongly recommend not to buy this headset and avoid the frustrations...

I've got an aluminum Macbook running Snow Leopard so this is a modern machine.I plugged the USB piece in, changed the preferences to send and receive the output and input from this baby and it worked beautifully!Everyone (3 people) says that I sound much clearer. I tried the range and it didn't go through walls that well (not like I live in a maze so no worries) but it performs perfectly throughout my home (townhouse).I can't accurately say how long the battery lasts but it works fine so far (5 days turning it off when it's not in use).I like to listen to music with it. I work from Skype and it works perfectly for that.The up/down movement of the Mic is nice especially if you want a quick mute to sneeze or something.The charge cable is short (about 18"), but you can't use it while charging so that's not too big a deal.The earpads aren't the most comfortable but they get the job done. If you play around with the position of the headset a bit, it actually blocks out a lot of exterior noise which is nice.The noise cancelling worked great tonight when my roommates came home and were whistling, laughing, talking loudly etc. while I was on a business call. The guys on the other end didn't say a thing!The buttons on the end of the headset are volume up/down, play/pause (affects iTunes) and next. They all work just fine.The volume doesn't get that loud but I don't plan on playing the drums with these on--though that is an idea!Overall, I really recommend these especially at their $50 or so price tag. Otherwise I was checking out those Logitech G930 headset for $110 which is supposed to be VERY comfortable but Dolby 7.1 doesn't work for Mac. I don't think the extra $60 is worth it for the comfort. I hear you can buy replacement earpads for the Plantronics headset that are made for Sony. Check out another review, it was a 5 star one.

My work requires me to do a lot of teleconferences on the computer. I recently bought Plantronics Audio 995 Wireless Stereo Headset and after a month of using it I can safely say that it is the best headset I have ever used.On efficiency I rate them at 5/5 and on value for money too I give them a 5/5. I would recommend this product to anyone who spends a lot of time on Skype like products.

I bought this product and it works well but you cant wear it for a long time because it really starts to hurt your ears. It picks up A LOT of background noise. The controls on it work great. To me it also doesnt seem sturdy. All in all I wouldnt reccommend this for anyone.

I purchased this headset mainly to use with conference calls that I have on my laptop. I had so many issues with wired headset breaking on me I decided to give this a try. Call quality is great and have never had any issues with people not understanding me. As far as wireless range I was quite impressed as I was able to walk around my apartment without disconnecting. The only thing I would like to see real improvement in is with battery life. I have had a few days where I ran out of battery power as it only lasts about 3-4 hours and you cannot use it while its charging which is a pain. As far as gaming this headset works great the sound quality really puts you into the game.Pros: -Clear Sound Quality -Acceptable Wireless range -WirelessCons: -Battery Life -Cannot use while charging -Not very compact, a little bulky

First off, let me say I'm a huge Plantronics fan. I use their Plantronics Foldable USB Stereo Headset (Optimized for Laptop Use) (Audio 470 USB) regularly with Dragon Naturally Speaking, and it works better for voice recognition than any other microphone I've tried, and it's a great bargain: I gave it a 4-star review, and I recommend it highly.This Plantronics .Audio 995 I cannot heartily recommend other than to wired Ethernet users.Installation is a snap, as with all Plantronics products I've tried, but the ensuing results for me were dismal. I'm trying to use this "wireless" (here's the "tricksy" part) on a desktop Dell XPS Gen 3, P4 3.4GHz, 3GB RAM, XP SP3 computer using a Wireless-G Network adapter.Sound quality on these headphones, when they work, is surprisingly good, and I had no problems with the remote volume and track controls on the outside of the headset. However, with even minimal movement while listening to a CD or mp3 via my computer, sound distorts terribly. Sounds like a bad "flanger" act from a '70s retro-band, and this occurs within 10 feet of the USB antenna, sometimes even within 2 feet if I simply tilt my head. Appalling.I'd hoped to upgrade to these so that I could do some "pacing," or walking around during dictation with DNS, but that's simply impossible. Even sitting perfectly still within 2 feet of the USB antenna, the signal-to-noise ratio in DNS for these either equals or slightly underperforms when compared with my wired Plantronics headset. Moving at all is simply not an option, so I might as well use the corded headset.Here's where things get murky, and, while I can't confirm that the following is the cause of the problem, this is what I think is happening. These "wireless" headphones are apparently NOT a Bluetooth emanation, though they have similar range characteristics and use "pairing." They appear to be a proprietary system, details undisclosed, that uses the same frequency spectrum as Bluetooth but are NOT Bluetooth.Interestingly, as they do use the 2.4GHz spectrum, when I turn on the headset, my Wireless-G adapter often crashes and loses contact with the router. As you probably know, Wireless-G uses this same band, as do some cordless phones (and microwave ovens). I have a 2.4 GHz band phone handset within 3 feet of my computer. Hmmmmm.Either there's an interference issue with this headset's proprietary transmission technology, or I received a defective headset. I am told that I will be receiving a replacement headset shortly to re-evaluate.In short, if the problem is interference, this is a shame, because these are pretty decent headphones, and I suspect the mic is good as well. Even if they worked, I wouldn't be trading in my Grados and AKGs, but for your standard .mp3 fare, they'd be quite acceptable. I do wonder how they work with Skype. Perhaps others will weigh in on that.I'll post an update when I receive the replacement set to clarify if the problem appears to be an interference-based issue or whether the first set I received was simply defective.....---Update June 17, 2009 -- Sadly, the "edit review" function here will not allow me to upgrade my initial rating. Plantronics was kind enough to send me a replacement unit to test, and, clearly, the unit I was sent originally was defective.The replacement set hardly breaks up at all -- and if so, only rarely, and I suspect computer lag for that. Bobbing and weaving my head does not produce the fragmented and distortion-filled sound that the first pair did. Range is well within advertised norms, and I'm impressed.The signal-to-noise rating given by Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Preferred [OLD VERSION]varies between 20-23, which out-performs my wired Plantronics headset mentioned above. This should prove to be a very useful tool, allowing me to walk around as I dictate, which was what I was looking for when I decided to order them. Very impressive.I'd like to upgrade this review to 4 stars if this forum would let me. Sadly, I can't change that rating here. The reason for dropping one star is that these do sound rather hollow when listening to music with much of a dynamic range and depth; however, as I wrote before, if I'm looking for top-notch performance, I won't be going wireless.For what these are designed for, they do a great job. Thanks Plantronics for letting me give you another chance!

I had the headset for less than 1 month. It was easy to set up. After charging the headset I used it for a couple of times. The headset will no longer charge. I have returned it.

My previous headset was the Plantronics foldable, it was light and easy to carry around. It lasted for two years then I had to shop around for another. My first instinct was to be guided by the reviews. I was drawn to this one because I didn't have to be tethered to my PC while I skype out.The call quality is good, both parties hear each other quite clearly and the battery life goes for five solid hours. However, I gave this four stars because I found the headset a bit heavy for me and the forty foot range that is purported assumes there are no thick walls nor obstructions in your path. It does give a beep and indicate that you are getting out of range, which is a plus. I would have preferred the USB receiver to be smaller. The size is cumbersome and could easily become dislodged if you have other bits of equipment around.These are my personal little peeves and not necessarily deal breakers. I would recommend purchase.

I purchased this headset because I work from home as a call center rep. I wanted the flexibility to move around at home instead of being tethered to my chair all day. The price was fantastic (less than $60!!). The battery life is great. I work 9 hour shifts and normally charge it on my lunch break for about an hour just in case, but it has yet to die on me. They're a little uncomfortable... I have a small head, and they fit snug and are bulky. However, the sound quality is great. The range is about 30 ft, but interference is unavoidable (though minor) around walls more than 10ft away from the receiver. Overall great value, but hoping they become more comfortable over time.

I like the headset, I have two. When the battery starts to fail it will drive you crazy. Get another headset, you will like it alot at first but it will frustrate you in the end.

I purchased this item after I read most of the reviews from previous buyers and i'm very satisfied with this Headset. The quality of sound is great, easy to set-up, all i had to do was connect the wireless device to the back of my Apple Mac mini via USB, then you need to charge the Headset first for about 4 hours before use, no software to install, just follow the instruction that comes with it. After 4 hours you are ready to use it.PROS:Stereo sound is great all music type sound crispySkype sounded goodRange just about accurate 40ft beyond 40ft starts to breakupThe mike is flexiableQuality of product looks and feels sturdyCON:Not too manythe cushion seems to be a bit small on the ears when it presses on top the ears.the instructions letters are very small

This headset is the answer to several years of frustration about computer headsets.Since 2007, I have been telecommuting from home. I don't have a work phone. In fact, my office extension calls my Skype number. In essence, my laptop has become my work phone. This has several huge advantages. I don't have to pay extra for a phone line. The sound quality is better anyway because it's Skype (Skype to Skype calls are free) and I'm hearing the caller in both ears. Finally, my hands are free during calls for typing because I'm wearing a headset.I've been buying headsets ever since then. The problem is that they last anywhere from 3 to 6 months because I, invariably, roll my office chair over the wire or it gets tugged hard enough that somehow, somewhere, I get a short. I have also sat on a headset or two when I had to get up quickly and come to sit down after that distraction. I knew the answer for me was a wireless headset. I didn't want bluetooth because I know bluetooth doesn't have good range, but more importantly, doesn't have the bandwidth for decent audio quality. Besides, at the time, the wireless headsets were very expensive. Luckily for me, and everyone else, Plantronics shipped the .Audio 995. This headset uses something similar to wireless Internet to transmit digital stereo! It sounds as good as a cable. Doesn't interfere with my wireless router that is very near. I do have to plug it into my laptop or I get a tiny bit of interference from plugging it into a USB hub (dunno if this a power issue or radio interference. I think it's power because I can hear it crystal clear all over my house when plugged into my laptop--well, it seems to have a 30-40 foot range.) I can listen and talk all day (8 hours +) on a single charge. Charging is easy via USB. I just leave it plugged in at night. The range is superb. This has saved me from sitting on the headset I think (because when I get up, it goes with me.) I can pause/stop/play/advance/go-back from controls on the headset. I don't have enough good things to say about this product. It is, hands-down, the best headset I've ever had. So far, 6 months and no shorts. The battery is also still charging about the same. I know the battery cannot last forever, but if I can get a couple years out of this thing (I use it every single work day,) I will have saved a lot of money over the typical life of my headsets. Very Happy with my purchase.

Priot to this purchase I was using a corded Logitech headset. It was fine, but I accidentally tripped and ripped the wiring out, so it was time to get a new headset. I looked at several sets, and read reviews on the 995. Here's what I've discovered.1) Some people complain about the weight/discomfort. I've worn these around the house, listening to music, chatting on conference calls, doing housework - they're comfortable. No, they're not light as a feather, but they're fine. I didn't find them too tight, or too heavy.2) Some people complain that the charging cord is too short. I think they make the cord extra short so that you don't charge it while it's on your head. You aren't supposed to do it, and they want to make sure you don't do it. Other than that, there's no problem with the cord. My headset is right now charging behind my laptop. It's out of the way, and I have no problem with cord shortness!3) Some people complain about the buttons, and you don't know if it's on or off unless you take it off your head. The on/off button is located on the left ear "muff." Put on the headset, press the button. If you hear sounds - it's on. If not, it's not on! And also, when it's on, the blue light from the USB device goes to solid blue. You don't need to see anything else to let you know it's on or off.I was a little stressed about the price because I had seen so many different reviews up and down about the 995. But this has been the best purchase I've made in a long time. I can walk around my first floor in and out of most rooms. I can't make it to the basement, but that's okay. Laundry can wait. The sound quality is great. I use this with Skype. I listen to XM and Pandora. I watch Hulu. No problems with sound whatsoever. I enjoy having the volume control on the headset so I can adjust wherever I happen to be - I don't have to come back to the laptop and change things around.This is a definite recommendation.

The headset works fine, although I'm downgrading to two starts because of the customer service. Unfortunately, I lost the USB key in an office move. When I contacted customer service to purchase a replacement, I was told that they do not offer any and that I would have to buy the complete set.

After reading most of the reviews of the Plantronics .Audio 995, I found what I needed to hear. My "rating" is simply a summary of what I've read, NOT a true user review at this point.This headset meets very minimum standards for an all-purpose wireless headset, barely. It's trying to fill the needs of too many -- voice recognition to gaming to skype--with a not-well-thought-out one-size-fits all design. I know nothing about design modifications, costs or otherwise, but it seems that Plantronics should try harder to fill the niche of average working class pocketbooks by tweaking what they already have in the 995. It's not flexible enough in design. They are not keeping up with market trends. Most people cannot afford the $150-300 ticket their better designs carry, so we have to settle for this which (by design) must be discarded when the battery goes, (not very "green" as noted) the dual earpieces are ungainly, and switches for mute/on/ off/standby are not convenient and/or user friendly.But it's the only non-bluetooth product in this price range at the moment. Too bad their marketing dept is asleep at the wheel re: trends. I'll buy one but grudgingly, and I'll buy a replacement warranty.And I personally vote for a monaural design I'm not chilling and listening to music...I'm working. I don't need to shut out the world.

This headset is great for speech recognition. Good wireless range. Very comfortable. Not fussy about where boom is in relation to my mouth.But here's the thing - the battery lasted just a little over a year and it really didn't get that much use. The battery is hardwired. And even if I were techie enough to soldier the new battery in or perhaps used some crimp sleeves. You cannot get a new battery. I scoured the internet and seems they are only MAYBE sold in volume.

I like almost everything about these headphones. Totally easy to get to work and the microphone worked just by rotating it into position. I would buy another pair of these if I needed another pair. What I don't like is the short battery life of 4 hours or so. The fit over the ears is a bit tighter than I like but just moving them forward on my head solves that minor thing.

I purchased thius headset after reading another review stating worked without any setup on Ubuntu Linux. This is correct. I plugged in the USB dongle, charged the headset on the provided USB cable, after a few hours I unplugged the headset pushed the power button and sound was coming through.Sound quality: The microphone is amazing. It picks up and transmits my angelic voice like nothing else. The earphone quality however leaves much to be desired, as my $20 skull candy ear buds provide clearer sound.Comfort: The headset is very light. The design makes it appear backwards but that was no big deal. However, I use this headset to make multi-hour conference calls for work and play video games/chat with other gamers. After a couple of hours my ears hurt to the touch, this fades quickly once removed and may be mitigated by alternating between ears covered and not.Range: The range is as advertised and I can get out to my garage with it for a smoke, but cannot go to the end of my garage without losing the signal (which reconnects as soon as back in range). If I go into my backyard at a closer distance I begin losing teh signal until even with my office again and then only maintain if I turn the side with the antenna towards the window. I have composite siding so I am unsure what is going on, the first two times i tried I maintained signal fine, I may have something providing interference now.Battery life: I have used this set 9-10 hours without it dying.Signal Consistency: You either have a good signal or none at all. I have not had any quality issues.

I purchased this headset to use with Express Scribe for Transcription Jobs. It works really well and I can hear everything very clearly. It holds a charge for a long time and I like the way you can fold the microphone up away from your face when not using it. It fits well over my ears and I can still wear my glasses, which is nice. This thing is fussy about how you charge it though. Don't try and use it while it's charging - it doesn't like that! I tried it with Skype and it worked well for that too. The person that I talked to said they could hear me really well. If I had to do it again then I'd probably get a set with a stand alone charging base, but this unit works fine.
