I bought one of these headsets 3 years ago, and finally the battery died. Bought a second set, hoping to get another 3 years out of it, but sadly this one died after only 3 months. I won't make the mistake of buying a third one.

Battery life is great, but I've run into wear and tear issues. The earpads have started to fray and the mic boom has a short. Second pair I've 'worn out' in 4 years. ~$50 for ~2 years is a tough pill to swallow, but when they're first in your hands it's tough to say anything bad at all.

The problem with this headset is two fold:1) I have no setting that tells me what power/charge is remaining for the headset and no warning when battery power is about to expire which causes Skype telephone conversations to end abruptly2) While the headset is charging I cannot continue use of the headset with a simple USB connection to the PC. I have to allow the headset to recharge for a minimum of 30 minutes before I can continue a conversation or continue to make more calls

I've owned this headset for a little over two years now, and it still holds a charge. Battery tends to die after about 6 hours, vs 8-10 hours when I first got it. The wireless range seems a bit diminished as well - I used to be able to walk from the computer room and grab a beer with uninterrupted playback, now it cuts out here and there. But for the price and longevity, this is a great product.

This headset works very well as a perfect replacement for the previous set made by a different company. These are better built and work equally well in all other aspects. I would recommend these highly for anyone wanting a wireless headset with mic. Plug and play without any issues at all. They are comfortable as well.

This headset is ok. Good sound and voice. That's all that's good about it.Ranger is 40'. Ya right! More like 10 to 15' at best. If there is a wall in between you and the computer forget it even if it's 1 foot!The thing that really turned me against this headset is that when the battery dies (is dead forever) 8 months in my case. Your screwed, done, kaput, it's over.You can't replace the battery.So you have a $99 paper weight. No more Plantronics for me EVER AGAIN!EDIT 12-5-12 This unit has a 1 year guarantee. Contacted the Company and they said they would fix or replace the unit. They would pay shipping both ways.BS: No shipping. No replacement: No more contact. As far as Plantronics is concerned, I found this headset in the alley. They could care less.Do not buy this unit. Unless you want to throw away your money.

I am sure this is a great headset but it does not work with the Cisco Soft Phone software loaded on my work PC. It is not a Plantronics issue, it's Cisco. My nephew uses it on his work IP phone, loves it and highly recommended. Before you buy it, be sure you don't plan to use it with a Cisco IP phone.

And yet another refinement for those like me who spend many hours per day in teleconference: I splurged and purchased replacement earpads designed for my favorite audio headphones, Ultrasone HFI-650, due to their large diameter which leaves the external ear completely free (they cost about as much as the headphone did, but all this is cheap compared to pain!). I used a bit of silicone cement to hold them in place. The result is very comfortable. Once again, I think this is the best solution for wireless headsets I have found (and I have tried quite a number).================Another 'twist' on tuning this headset for comfort: I found that the earcups were turned so that the front edge of the earpads pushed on my temples because of their alignment. I corrected this by (please be careful!) turning on my electric stove element to maximum, twisted one of the ear units slightly clockwise (viewed from the underside) and held the plastic which is the exposed adjustable length close to the element. The plastic became soft after ~5 seconds, and took on the small angle I wanted. I repeated for the other side, holding everything in place until it cooled, and I now find it significantly more comfortable that the earcup pressure is uniform around my ears.Another suggestion for comfort: buy some replacement earpads for Sony 7506 headsets (inexpensive knock-offs work fine), and replace the earpads on the Plantronics with those. The stock earpads are short vertically and compress the ear in a way I find painful after 15 minutes, but the taller form of the Sony earpads is much more comfortable for long-term wearing.================================A few more details on differences between the Logitech ClearChat Wireless and the Plantronics .Audio 995:They both use the same (Avnera) wireless system, and so the potential audio quality and range should be similar. Both sound fine for casual music listening, and certainly excellent for any voice application.There is a little bit of background noise in the of the Plantronics headphones (and not in the Logitech), independent of the setting of the volume control so internal to the headset-transmitter pair. This is only apparent when there is no voice, or music. It makes it less than ideal for critical listening of e.g., classical music with a wide dynamic range. For most applications, no problem.A comparison of recordings using the microphones with the two show that the Plantronics has a much fully sound, with more bass in the voice than the Logitech, and something closer to the sound of the voice using a quality music microphone. The Logitech recording sounds like good telephone quality.An important difference is that the Plantronics has a slow-acting automatic gain control on the microphone. In my limited experience to date, the system works very well, and brings the gain up to a level significantly higher than the Logitech under normal use, which will lead to a better signal-to-noise over the wireless channel and also a louder voice for the other end. If you bang/breathe on the microphone, it turns down the gain for ~10 seconds. I added a small foam cover on the microphone to reduce breath noise, and with that find that under normal circumstances the automatic gain control is a very positive feature.The Logitech's muting system (a push on the right ear button) is far better -- raising and lowering the microphone boom to mute on the Plantronics makes a rasping sound which is picked up by the microphone for much of the motion, so jumping in to make a comment is disruptive on conference VOIP. Too bad! need to mute in the application, meaning you need to be at your keyboard -- making the wireless less useful.In balance, I prefer the Plantronics due to the excellent microphone audio quality. They are both great -- wireless is wonderful.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the bluetooth wireless headset by Plantronics since I received the unit a couple of days ago. I would have rated it a full 5 stars but I must say that the ear pads leave a litle to be desired. After wearing the headset for a couple of hours my ears get really sore. Other than that, its nice to have the freedom to move around the house and still listen to music or TV with out disturbing others.

These did not work out for me because I have Windows 7 and these were not compatible. And even if they were, these were not comfortable on my head....they were too big and seemed better suited for a man, which I am not ; )

I had high hopes for this headset. The range is OK (30 feet), but not having any idea on the battery level is a major draw back. The sound and mic pick up is good. Overall, it lacks at not being able to know the battery level and it will not work while plugged in and charging, leaving you in the dark if your battery level is low and goes out while on a call. Overall, I would not recommend.

Got this for 58 dollars with shipping (amazon prime's one-day shipping). This product is as simple as can be. Just plug it in and it works right out of the box. I have talked for a few hours so far with it on skype on less than full charge. Red light with it plugged in means it is charging. Solid blue means it's sync'd up with the transmitter. Blinking blue means it is attempting to synch up. I walked out of my apartment with it and down the stairs. I lost signal on the stairs and it picked up when I was beneath my apartment away from the door about 30 feet. This is great for me. I am not 'tethered' to my computer when I have long Skype sessions. I don't have to say 'be right back' I can just get up and go to wherever I need to go to. If you need to mute it push the mic all the way up. I did this one time while eating and the person said they could hear me. I didn't have it up quite to the top position.One bad thing: if you prefer your mic on the right for some reason (I do) this one is on the left. You cannot have it any other way. Still for the price and the simplicity of this unit I give it 5 stars. Just bear in mind this review is after owning it a few days. Don't know if it will stand up to the test of time, but for 58 bucks I'm not too concerned. I never want to use a wired headset again. Love the freedom.

Supposed to have 30 feet, I have about 30 inches. If I move more that 2-3 feet from the receiver dongle, people say I get fuzzy and scratchy sounding. Other than that, comfortable and good sound!

Very happy with this headset! Light weight, comfortable, and easy to use. My use is usually for on-line courses, skype calls and on-line radio broadcast.Have never lost a call or unable to finish a task because of lack of battery charge. This head-set is very comfortable and can be worn for long periods without becoming uncomfortable, often forget I'm wearing them walk around the house with the headset on, which amuses my wife.I find the maximum distance of quality sound from the computer is about 30 feet, including one wall, and 40 feet if direct.For the money I feel this an outstanding buy in both quality and application.

The product is OK.. but it has few things that i did not like..Sound breaks once every few minutes.., it squeeks...Every time i disconnect from laptop and connect it .. i have to go to sound and re-do all the settings, stop the program that is running and restart it.. that sucks...Packaging and Product delivery are as expected.

Has a rechargeable battery built in that cannot be replaced.Headset cannot be used while recharging. This is a screwed up design feature.Charges from a USB port and I don't leave a computer on while gone so I had to buy a USB charger that plugs into an AC outlet.

Comfortable and easy to use.I can walk around in my house and it works in a 10 meters radio without problems.Battery lasts always enough.The only finger down is the noise cancelling. Despite the size the cancelling is really low.

The sound quality is great, and being able to hit 'next' without being next to the computer is really convienient when I'm listening to music, but it has some mic problems. For skype and some voice-recording programs, my voice will randomly get 'robot-y'. It makes for hard understanding, and it's an inconviencene, but besides that I'm pretty satisfied with this headset. The battery is pretty okay too. I turn it off and on with use, so it'll typically last the whole day. Not sure if I got a defected mic or if it's a common problem with this product, but it was really disapointing to find a flaw in a brand-new product.

This is my second set of wireless headsets different name brand. This work well but signal is not the greatest all depending on where you using them the signal can drop.If i'm in my computer room with my computer signal is great no wires and hands free and you can adjust the volume, pause, and skip a song if listen to a CD or track. Its great for listen to music and chatting with friends.

i love this thing. it has nice sound. i haven't tried it at a very long distance, but it works in the hallway and rooms next to the receiver, which works for me. it's awesome to be able to talk to someone on skype while cooking, cleaning, walking around etc. so effortless.

Based on other reviews and historically great performance from Plantronics other analog telephony products, I ordered this headset. I have tried NUMEROUS headsets, looking for one that worked for both work VOIP and gaming for long periods. I had (have) the Logitech Clearchat, but they recently needed repair. While having the Logitech Clearchat repaired (free repair/shipping), I ordered this Plantronics headset because I had a gift certificate, and I can tell you without question that this is possibly one of the worst headsets I have used (at least compared to the Logitech).From a comfort perspective, the Plantronics are as awkward to wear as they appear in the picture - tight on your head with little cushion and unnatural fit on your ear. Wearing them with glasses is painful after even an hour due to the pressure they apply. The Plantronics utilizes an over the ear headset cup, while the Logitech is "on ear." Usually I favor the over the ear approach (as with my Bose QuietComfort II headphones), however, the Plantronics headset is so stiff that it just grinds on you after time. In contrast, the Logitech could be worn for hours without discomfort (provided the battery lasted that long - see later section).From a feature perspective, Plantronics is a clear miss. The mute function is accomplished via lifting the mic - vs. the Logitech, which does it via the boom lift OR push button. This may seem minor, but when muting 30+ times a day, the boom lift method gets rather old for quick mutes, and assuredly will add wear to the headset. While muted (in the down position) the Logitech boom mic is illuminated red as a reminder (a truly smart addition). This is obviously not a feature of the Plantronics headset as it does not mute while in the down position. The Plantronics does add a nifty feature in that it allows you to control media players via the multi-way switch on the left headset. While I found this feature fun, the most common functions (mute, vol up, vol down), which are used all day and night, are much more easily accessed on the Logitech and not worth the tradeoff.From a range perspective, the Plantronics advertises 40ft, and the Logitech 30+ft. Bottom line, they use the exact same RF technology, and in my tests had the EXACT same range in my home - about 20 feet (with walls). Again, however, Logitech went one step further and added a USB pedestal in their product - allowing for the USB wireless transceiver to stand upright and away from the PC for better range. Plantronics simply had the USB wireless fob. Without free front USB ports, this could cause issue.From a sound perspective, they were both absolutely identical with the quality being much better than expected and as good as most wired headsets.From a power/battery perspective... both are TERRIBLE with their own unique and frustrating downfalls. Battery life on the Plantronics ran about 6 useful hours, 5 on the Logitech. The Plantronics uses a standard, and easy to use USB connector, but the Logitech uses a proprietary power connector which does not stay connected with the smallest of movements. That is a major show stopper for Logitech, however, it soon gets even worse with the Plantronics! If the Logitech headset runs out of juice, simply plug it in and continue working/gaming (hoping the cord does not pop loose - which it will)... but with the Plantronics you are DEAD IN WATER. You cannot use the Plantronics headset while charging and this is a major party foul. This single oversight by Plantronics is enough to warrant an AVOID recommendation for this product.Simply put, the Plantronics headset is not comfortable, has identical battery life as the Logitech and has a major skeleton in the closet in that it cannot be used while charging. Recommendation: Logitech Clearchat Wireless Headset.If one of these vendors could simply combine the features of both products and up the battery life to 12 hours, you would have a fantastic product. Until such time, I reluctantly have to recommend the Logitech Clearchat over the Plantronics wireless headset.

40 feet working range? Pfft more like 4 feet. 8 hour battery life? So long as you're not listening to anything with them. These headphones are typical wireless shit. DO NOT buy them, stick with wired. What's the point of being wireless if you can't use them or have to plug in every half hour or so to recharge.

As a software developer I work remotely (i.e. from home/coffee shop etc) and we use Skype to communicate. I did not want to be tethered to my computer when having a phone conversation but I also did not want to have to change devices for listening to music while working. These headphones serve both tasks admirably. Music sound readily intelligible and the phone conversations are superb.I received the units only recently (11/16/2011), I charged them fully that night and used them at work the next day. Today is the 18th and I have not charged them again and they still have a charge. How much? I don't know as their is no indication for that information.I am very very very please with the $57.00 purchase. It was prime eligible and as always, was waiting for me at home 2 days from the time I ordered :)I tried to use my Jawbone ERA for skype and music (albeit in one ear) but two things put the Kibosh on that idea:1. Jawbones multipoint feature does not play well with my laptop (Lenovo) and my iPhoneor iPad, so it could not readily switch between device and that was a problem. I would have to turn bluetooth on one device off and turn the ERA off and on again...NOT2. I have a guy sitting next to me that smacks all the time (eating or just chewing on his lip or finger ...etc ) drives me NUTS!!! so I had to cover both ears LOL!!!! 995 to the rescue. I can take a lot of things but cracking gum and smacking.... goes through me like a hot knife in butter at room temperature!Have a nice wknd!

This headset worked right after I took it out of the box, but it becomes unpaired every time you unplug the USB connector and I've only successfully gotten it to re-pair one other time. Even that time it's so temperamental it probably took me 10 minutes to get it to pair and I still don't know exactly what made it happy since I was following the instructions in the manual to the letter and they didn't work.Completely unusable piece of junk.

Technology has changed how we buy and store music but how we get the best sound from our digitally stored music has been woefully lagging behind.I don't know about anyone else but all my favorite music is on my computer and small MP3 devices - great when I'm on the go but not so great when I want to listen to music around the house or watch videos on-line. No matter how good the speakers with my computer I still couldn't enjoy really good crisp music around the house (or while my IPod charged).But these headphones change everything! Great sound, light-weight, cordless and rechargeable the are the best of all worlds. With approximately 40 feet of roaming range I can enjoy things on my computer, go to te kitchen or other rooms and never miss a beat.Cordless means I don't get tangled up, pets can't chew the cord and I'll never get sound in only one ear because of a short in the cord. They recharge in 2 hours so I never have to bother with batteries (great for my budget and the environment).Plantronics really got it right with this time! I love these headphones!!

I got this headset for my home office use. after get it , it has several issuefirst, when charging the headset, it can't be used.second, sometime the Voice is not clear, when I was in the conference call, it has really bad sound and everybody else can't hear me.third, it is not comfortable when you put on over 2 hours.so I don't recommend to use it for home office use.

I've had the Plantronics Audio 995 for about 6 months; I purchased them expressly for use with Skype. In my opinion, they're unreliable, uncomfortable, and badly designed.*Cons*a) I cannot use them with my laptop; the headset connects to the laptop fine with the supplied USB transceiver, but the headset wireless signal kills my laptop wireless signal. If I unplug the USB transceiver from the laptop, my laptop wireless connection connects back immediately. So I'm forced to use them with my desktop computer.b) There's no way of knowing how much of a charge is left in the battery.c) As has been pointed out by many, you cannot use them while they're charging (for hours) on the extremely short USB cable that comes with them, and the standby mode that the (horrible) instructions allude to remains a mystery to me. I turn them off to conserve the battery when they're not being used -- and as easy as that sounds, it took ages to figure out how to do it -- to turn them off. If you hold in the power/connect button (on the left ear side of the headset) for about 2-3 seconds they'll turn off -- the same to turn them back on again.d) The range is useless. In my bedroom, 12 feet away with a thin hollow wall in between, the signal drops in and out during a call. In fact, I can be right at the computer, battery fully charged, 2 feet from the transceiver, and they'll still drop out during a call if I tilt my head at the wrong angle.e) There's no way to answer a call on Skype from the headset. So when I have an incoming call, I leap out of my chair, throwing whatever beverage I was enjoying at the time all over me, the furniture and the room, run to the computer, grab the headset and hold the power button in for 2-3 seconds (if you let go too quickly they won't turn on -- happens all the time), seize the mouse, wait for the monitor to come out of standby, all just in time for the caller to hang up before I get a chance to answer.f) They're big! If you're used to wearing iPod ear buds, or even the standard "Internet Headset" type deals, these feel like a sack of spuds attached to each side of your head -- I have to turn sideways to get through doorways when I'm wearing them. Well, not quite, but it feels like it.g) They're of the "closed" headphones variety -- they block out all background noise when you have them on. Some might see that as a pro, but I don't care for it. I can't hear a knock at the door if I'm wearing them, for example. In fact, they seem to block out background noise so efficiently, I don't believe I'd hear a gunshot right here beside me in the room.*Pros*a) The sound quality is good when they do work.b) As bulbous as they are, they're relatively light.So that's my experience. Bottom line: I wouldn't recommend this headset.
