Netgear factory refurbished product works and looks like new with more than 60% saving compare to a new one. In fact a factory refurbished product may have gone through more QA/testing than a new one.

I purchased this router to replace a Linksys router that I had owned for 7 years. It's a tough decision picking a router with so many on the market. I just wanted something that would be easy to set up, and would broadcast throughout my 2 story house. This router has fit my needs.Setup was a bit of a pain. Documentation was OK. I chose the 'setup via Internet browser' method because I don't like to install any more software on my computer than necessary, to keep it running lean. Once in the setup field, it took my router several attempts to establish a connection to my cable modem. This was somewhat frustrating, but once I got the connection to my cable modem established, setup with very easy after that. I was able to set up WEP security, MAC address filtering, and turn off SSID broadcast quite easily. During the setup process, I had everything working fine, and I did a backup of the router settings. I then accidentally hit the "test" button on the basic settings screen, and it lost the network connection. I tried restoring the settings from the backup file I created, but that did not do any good. After several additional attempts, it finally established the network connection again. It's worked fine ever since. The wireless range is adequate. It's about the same coverage as my 7 year old Linksys G-band router. I get 2 out of 3 bars in the downstairs, and full signal strength upstairs. The network is a solid connection and I have yet to lose a signal while surfing over my wireless network, so the router has done everything that I ask of it. I do want to note there is an obnoxious flashing blue light on the top of the router. Supposedly this light, with its 8 LEDs flashing, represents the 8 internal antennas broadcasting their signal. You can turn this off by just pressing the blue light down!I'm connecting a laptop, PlayStation 3, Wii, iPhone 4 over the wireless network. All devices are working fine. I'm not sure if having the dual band is doing me any good, but the price of this router was in line with most standard routers, so I don't feel like I paid more for something that I'm not benefiting from. All-in-all if someone asked me to recommend this router to them, I definitely would.

Purchased this as a replacement to the crappy 2Wire modem AT&T sent me for their DSL service. For less money than AT&T was charging for a G speed router I purchased this N speed. It doesn't drop address', it doesn't have DHCP issues, it is quiet and reliable. The GUI is ok but I have never liked most router or modem GUI's so take it for what it's worth. It is an easy setup and the port forwarding is clearly labeled as are most of the features. All in all I would say this is a good purchase for a home user wanting control of their own modem or someone replacing a modem. Shipping was a little slow but what are you going to do?

Bought this tiem to replace a Thompson V7. Set up was firly straight forward, however the unit would disconnect after about an hour. I then got on the various boards and realized that this unti was having problems all over the world. Upon on closer inspection it was all pointing to firmware problems. I tried several different firmwares before finally getting ahold of the latest one (1.028).This firmware is alittle more stable than any of the others. It still causes the unit to drop connections about 1 every 3-4 hours. Wireless signal is strong but also degrades over time. The gigabit ports work s advertised and I have used them to test data thorughput from a NAS server to another Server. It plugs away with no problem until about the 3-4 hour mark when the unit itself disconnects and goes through a reset process.I was surprised that the firmware itself is very basic and does not include any capability to see devices connected to it via another gigabit switch. My DLink 655 has no problem seeing the MAC and allows me to to assign a static DHCP address by selecting the MAC/Computername. NOT so with the Netgear. You have to manually add this thrugh a sub menu choice. Apparently there is a beta firmware out that UK residents are using that works, I haven't seen it yet so can't comment on it. Unfortunately this device, while having some good processors and speed is a pile of junk thanks to its poorly written firmware....I will be adding more to this if and when Netgear gets a better firmware out to us. In the interim I would NOT reccommend this item.

I've yet to have a NETGEAR router that worked reliably in wireless mode. The WNDR3300 is another example of 'it almost works.' During downloads it disconnects, then reconnects, then disconnects, and this is at a distance of 10 feet from the computer. At other times, it won't connect unless the power is cycled first. Sometimes it lowers power output, has to be reset, etc. This is typical of NETGEAR wireless routers---I've tried four of them over time and they all do this. And on this 3300, the light show on the top of the unit is funny---and its too bad that NETGEAR could not put money into design and testing rather than a silly light show as this router exhibits.

I just bought this wireless router last week and so far I am very pleased. The range of the 2.4Ghz frequency is awesome; much better than my older dlink router. The 5Ghz range is not great however, only about 15-20 feet to get a good signal. This is okay for me though because I live in a small one bedroom apartment, so I can utilize the 5Ghz almost always.I didn't know however that I have to manually switch networks from 2.4 to 5. I was under the impression that the dual band for the model meant that the router will choose the best frequency for my devise. Its not that huge of a pain but still a bit disappointing.I did have to contact customer service to setup my router. I have setup 3 or 4 different wireless routers in the past just fine, and I have moderate IT skills. Yet, I still couldn't get my NETGEAR router to function. The good thing was that customer support was very nice and to-the-point, meaning they didn't waste my time. After about 40 minutes we setup my router and all my questions were answered. So even though setup wasn't as easy as they claim, I was pleased with the help I received. So far I believe this will be an amazing router for around $50, and I will post updates as time goes on. I would recommend this to others as well.

Let's state this in plain English up front:Out of the box, this router is THE PITS. The stock firmware is lousy and the range and throughput are lousy. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of flashing the router to non-stock third party firmware, stop reading here and find another router, because you will NOT be happy with this router.OK, for those still reading, you can flash this router with a very stable, VERY capable third party open-source firmware package known as "DD-WRT". Once you do this (instructions can be found at the DD-WRT website), the router goes from an unstable dog, to something reliable and flexible. DD-WRT not only fixes many of the issues with the stock firmware, it opens up the ability to use this router as, instead, a wireless bridge (the bridge talks to your existing wireless network and then offers four ethernet plugs into which you can plug devices that don't support wireless themselves but do support wired ethernet). Now, to be honest, a wireless bridge is the only thing you'd WANT to use this router for. Even with the excellent DD-WRT firmware, this item is a poor choice as a router. Why? Because the range of this router is just TERRIBLE. And that applies not only to the 5Ghz "N" band (which has more limited range on all routers), but also to the standard 2.4Ghz B/G/N band. The range of this router is lousy on EVERY band. And that's a big problem for a wireless router. If you are replacing an older "G" wireless router that has served you well, but which you feel is getting a bit long in the tooth (and you want that newfangled "N" band you've been hearing about), this is most certainly NOT the router for you. You will most certainly be disappointed with the range compared to any decent "G" router. However, the broadcast range is irrelevant if you are using it as a bridge. In that case, it picks up the signal from your (presumably much better) wireless router, and the inherent issues with the range of this router don't come into play.Bottom line: If you are comfortable with flashing the firmware and if you need a wireless bridge, this is a decent choice that will offer dual band wireless N support in a bridge. If you are looking for a wireless router, look elsewhere.

Looks good out of the box. Ran the install with the CD, as directed, and you get to a step to update the BIOS (Y/N). Naturally, you say Y wanting the latest and greatest. Then after flash, no connection with AT&T DSL service. Long calls to tech support. Finally sent it back after tech support said it's broken.Get my return quickly - Thanks amazon! and duplicate the scenerio (not knowing the BIOS issue was the problem). Get on the horn again with my not-so-local tech support and they tell me how to reflash BIOS. That worked. Flashed back to the version it shipped with and smooth sailing so far. Been working 2 weeks now, now hiccups.

RECENT RELIABILITY PROBLEMS - After almost 2 years of good performance, during the past 6 months my unit often needs to be re-initialized (power off for 10 seconds) to obtain good download speeds. Although this procedure always brings the download speed back to normal, I now need to do this "reset power" procedure every 1 to 2 days. Also, recently I have been experiencing Internet connection problems after doing a "power reset". My Windows Internet Connection Troubleshooter confirms the problem, so I end up having to do a second "power rest". I don't know if this is a common problem (degradation of reliable performance), but I suspect it's time to buy a replacement. My ISP (AT&T) hasn't been helpful because they only support 2Wire DSL modems. I received a free 2Wire when I signed up for DSL, but the AT&T warranty is only 2 years so I had to purchase another brand modem when the 2Wire quit working and the AT&T price for a replacement 2Wire was too high. AT&T is "willing" to provide phone help for NetGear if you agree to pay an additional service charge!!!- Ron K.

Well I'm glad I hung on to my old modem/wireless router because I would have been down until I bought another new one. This was a great product, very fast, excellent range, and the USB port to hook up a hard drive for wireless backups was why I bought it. During the time I was on the internet using this modem, I laughed, I cried, but then it was over. The NETGEAR era ended abruptly.

This thing is a beast. I have been throwing my money away for years with the 2Wire units for Att. The latest of which I had for 4 months. I have suffered for 3 years with lost connections, and countless problems... but no more! I am not a tech guy by any means so believe me when I say this thing is a snap to set up. It really is plug and play. I have it set up to run my comp, laptop, brother laser all in one, and blu-ray. So far so good. Speed is amazing and I never get any drops anymore. The only problem is with Att you need to get info from them if you don't remember it. I had to call, but it wasn't bad. I told them the truth... After explaining my frustrations with their units and telling them I was staying with them as isp, the guy was very nice. He got me the info I needed. But don't expect them to help you troubleshoot or anything. I would suggest if you also have Att, that you call and get the info before you try and install this unit. It wasn't until after all this that I discovered you can reset your password on the phone without talking to a rep at all... As for the user name, it is usually just your email address with Att. Hopefully that will help out some people. Wish I'd have known that ahead of time. Anyway, Att partnered with this Netgear piece is a wonderful combo. So much faster. I tried a speed test and it took me from .78 mbps to 5.7 mbps. Best of all no drops yet! I look forward to watching Mlbtv through this unit come spring.

I don't think it is too much to ask that a router be able to cover a 1600 sq. ft. one level home (no plaster walls) with a decently strong signal. I also think it would be rather expected that a router could manage a solid hour or two with no drops. If you have similar expectations, do not buy this router.

First a little bit about Netgear and the WNDR4000's predecessor. For the last couple of years Maximum PC magazine has raved about the WNDR3700 as being the best of the best, they score it 9 out of 10 and assign a "Kick Ass Award." On the strength of that I recently purchased a WNDR3700 v2. Setup was a breeze and the speeds on PC's throughout the network were the best I've seen on any router to date. There was one annoying issue withmy network however, my new wireless HP Officejet 7500A All-In-One would not maintain a stable connection to the router. None of my other attached network devices had any problem whatsoever, just this printer. I also have a Panasonic Plasma TV connected to the network via a Netgear WNCE2001 Wireless Network Adapter. The throughput was great with the 3700 with no dropouts so I had no reason to suspect the router was to blame for my network printing issues.Since I really like that printer for my business use, I decided to try the WNDR4000 to see if the new improved version might help out my HP printer issue. Setup, as with the earlier version, was a breeze. I've been running the 4000 for 96 hours straight and not one time has the printer gone offline.I think this new router is a homerun in every area.

I kept repeating the complete installation procedure (about 6 minutes or more per repeat) since it would not allow you to start after the sucessful sections. The error messages were not sufficient to clue me to the solution. One of my errors was the username format. Before the install, I only needed "username" however, with the install and I had to use [...] as my username. There was one other small typing error so I had to do the whole procedure two more times. Entire install time including calling DSLExtreme Tech support and wireless setup took about 90 minutes. On the username problem, I had called DSLExtreme (my DSL vendor) technical support before starting the install to find out if there was anything I need to change or know and the answer was no. When I call them back, with the problem, I got the same tech and he immediately had the answer. Oh well...Amazon's Product Description said the Wireless function could turn on and off with button on the back. My unit did not have this hardware button but I was able to do it with router setting.Even though my 3Mbps (3000Kbps) service did not change, the thoughput is consistently at least 100Kbps higher with this unit (DSL Modem and Router) than the old DSL modem. Also, comparing heat radiated with the Original DSL Modem and this unit, I believe this unit with more functions, is far more efficient and uses less power then old single function DSL modem.

Getting this thing set up was a bit of a hurdle. I followed the instructions exactly, inserting my ISP username & pass and filling out information as needed, but it wasn't able to authenticate with Qwest. I spent a while fighting it and tweaking options in the config page, then noticed the very first option on the config page's sidebar: auto-setup. It turns out this is much smarter than the setup instructions, and it worked. Whatever it did, it got the settings just right to talk to my ISP and connected. I don't think it would cost them much to mention this simple feature in their instructions - even a passing reference would do - but for some reason they neglected to do so. Thank heaven for google.Hurdle two was Teamspeak -- I could transmit fine, but received audio was garbled and distorted (and major packet loss reported). This took even longer to figure out. Long story short? Download the firmware update and install it. This modem does not like VOIP and related packets until its hunger for new firmware has been sated. So now I get to celebrate: "Yay, I completed a remedial technical task! And it only took me several hours!". I'm so proud. After this awkward and time-wasting start, the modem now works well. I'm coming from Qwest's 2-Wire brand modem which rejected downloads greater than 2 GB, so downloading large games I'd purchased off of steam or the PS3 was impossible. This modem had no such problems, and so far appears to play nicely with the PS3 out of the box.

I bought the Netgear DGN3500 to replace the DSL modem I got from my ISP and the old router I had attached to it. The installation was fast and simple, and I had no trouble "registering" the router with my ISP. I have low-end service so I can't really judge it on speed, but I can say that the wireless signal is much stronger around my house than the old router's was. I used the push-button security feature with a Blu-Ray player and it worked fine. The admin panel has lots of features, though perhaps not quite as many as the Netgear WNDR3700 I have elsewhere.

I bought this router after researching and seeing positive reviews for homes with both pc and macs. It has never worked as well as the standard Qwest router we got with our internet - I can't tell you how many hours we have spent reconfiguring and talking with tech support. The signal strength is awful - if you are not in the room the router is in, you get cut off. It has gotten worse the longer we have owned the router so now I can stay connected for only minutes at a time on our ipad & ipods. The laptops are slightly better - but you never know when the signal will "drop." Save your money, try something different - or just stick with the router from your internet company!!

Once setup, this is the most reliable wireless router I've owned. Solid range, and it has given me no problems (wish I could say the same about my cable internet provider, but I digress). My only challenge was that I use 64-bit Vista, and the install software didn't support it. The trick here is that software really does nothing more than walk you through the most fundamental aspects of the router setup process. You can find the HTML documents that it utilizes if you hunt through the folders on the disc, which I did. Frankly, if you've ever setup a router, you won't need them anyway. As with virtually all routers, you access the actual router configuration via your web browser, and it doesn't care what OS you're running. This thing has been working flawlessly for me for about 6 months now. The router is on the second floor and my PS3 (which is Wireless-G) is in my basement, and while I don't get the full 12mbps my ISP supports, I still get a respectable 6mbps...not bad all things considered, and more than fast enough for gaming. When my PS3 was on the 1st floor, I got close to 10mbps. My laptop works anywhere in the house on this router, as does my smart phone. In short, I've been VERY impressed with this router. In the past I tried cheap Belkin and D-Link wireless routers, and they were beyond unreliable. This one has been as reliable as any wired router I've owned.Pros:-Reliable-Strong signal, works great for G and N devices-Looks niceCons:-Initial setup doc software doesn't work with all OS's, but it's not really needed anyway if you know what you're doing-"Disco" light is annoying, but if you hold it for a second or two and release, it will turn offUPDATE 1/21/2013: Approaching 2 1/2 years now and this thing is still chugging along without a hitch.

I've owned several Netgear modem/routers in the past, all of which have been excellent. With previous routers however, I typically have an external modem with an ethernet link to the router, and all my previous models have had an ethernet port for this purpose in addition to the standard 4 ethernet LAN ports. My expectation was I could feed the external internet connection into this device via a LAN port and just use the router/WIFI functionality. CANNOT BE DONE - I cannot get this device to function as an ethernet-LAN/router only. It must have an ADSL connection.Seems obvious when the box says "ADSL Modem/Router", but as I say, I've had other similar devices and using the router only hasn't been a problem before.Gave device 4-stars... there isn't anything wrong with it per se, but I felt it should operate as a router only if desired.

My router is no longer working. I have very low ping, upload, and download speeds. I already contacted my ISP and verified that the problem is not on their end as I connected my computer directly to my modem and my speeds are fine. I attempted to contact Netgear to see what could be done. They will not provide me any phone support unless I pay an additional fee. They referred me to an e-mail support team. I was unable to register with the site and was advised that the product was already registered by customer support. I recontacted customer support who provided me a password. I attempted to login to the site but it continually said that my e-mail address was incorrect. I advised the rep of this who insisted that the problem was on my end. This rep's primary language was clearly not English and I asked to speak to a supervisor. She refused to transfer me and enventually hung up on me. Prior to this I was able to ascertain that she had entered my e-mail address incorrectly and thought I said Campabay vs. Tampabay (another clue that she is probably not from the US) and then continued to blame the miscommunication on me. Here I am 2+ hours later and I'm no further at getting my router fixed than I was before. Very unhappy with the product and even more unhappy with the support available or lack thereof.

hi there-My experience with this router so far has been brilliant. Here's my setup:1 - (TimeWarner) Cable modem into router2 - Xbox 360, Oppo Blu-ray player, DirecTV into wired ports3 - 2 Airport Expresses (1 g, 1 n) connected to wireless (using "Join Wireless Network" option) to stream music (and eventually, share printers)I have 2 MacBook Pros joining my "n" network and 1 Macbook Pro and 2 iPhones joining my "g" network.Everything is working great. Happily, I do not have to switch to my "g" network to stream music from the MBP's on the "n" network.Eventually, I will be changing the "n" APE to extend the Netgear's wireless setup so I can move the Xbox upstairs and stream from another DirecTV box. I have not tested this configuration and will add to this review once I test this out.The only issue I had was the crazy bright blue light on the top of the unit. I had to go to the website to figure out how to turn off those lights, which involved pressing the top button (where all the LEDs are) once. Easy.I used black electrical tape to cover up the lights on the front of my panel because I have the unit resting on my DirecTV box and found them distracting when watch TV when the lights were dim. It would be nice to have the option to turn those off.I found the documentation to be rather well written, and the router's web page was pretty easy to figure out, though still rather technical. The "help" text on the right was surprisingly clear, but there were still some overall concepts, especially with how the various password options worked, that were hard to figure out.I got this unit after my old D-Link 603e failed to work. I replaced that with another D-Link, D-Link Ethernet Broadband Router EBR-2310, which was a total disaster for my setup. While I initially didn't understand the value of having two different wireless networks but once I got my devices to join the appropriate networks automatically, it's totally fine.My average downstream with this modem is about 19Mbps, with peaks into the 23Mpbs territory.Hope this review helps--I really think this is a great product!-mike
