Basically plugged it in and ready to go. Did have a little problem setting up between ranges but didn't take me over 15 minutes. Decide to use "G" based on other reviews.My son plays online PS3 game using wireless in next room and has had no problem with drop outs.

The Good: This router was easy to set up, it only took about 15 minutes to start up and configure. When this router was operating, it had excellent range and speed.The Irritating: AT LEAST twice weekly the router would crash, and would require a reboot cycle which also involved restarting the modem, and took about 10 minutes. The lights, seriously this thing is like a UFO. The central blue light is enough to light up our entire office. Toward the end of its life the power button broke, so I was stuck with this machines noxious light blinking and flashing.The Bad: Wasted ~70 bucks of a router that I spent more time being irritated with, than enjoying, and had to replace in less than 3 months. I was so happy to break this router and throw it in the garbage.Instead of giving this trashy router a 1 star rating, I was kind and gave it 2. I felt it deserved another star because of its decent performance in the short periods of operation between crashes.

Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router had been my trusted router for 8 years, at home and office. But it was giving me problems while transferring movies from TiVo and so I replaced it with Netgear Rangemax WNDR3700 Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router (Black), whose installation CD did not work but I was able to configure using the standard 192.168.1.1 web address in a browser. Except for low range of 5 Ghz, the WNDR3700 works well.But 5 Ghz radio in Netgear Rangemax WNDR3700 Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router (Black)has very low range, practically unusable. So I figured may be I can replace the office Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router with less expensive NETGEAR WNDR3300 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router. What a mistake!This router has just been a nightmare to install and configure. The installation instructions are very poor. After I put in the Netgear CD, it tells me no router detected! Trying manual setup, I could not get anything in the browser on 192.168.1.1 which is usually the default set up page and IP address of most routers. I looked up the manual and found that configuration page for this router is at routerlogin dot com, not 192.168.1.1. Once I got to that page, it detected the router but the default network IP address is 10.0.0.0I have 3 network printers attached to the network with fixed IP addresses 192.168.1.10x and all of them stopped working when the default IP address of network changed to 10.0.0.0. After calling the Netgear tech support I was able to change the network IP address back to 192.168.1.1 but then periodically, on its own, it switches back to 10.0.0. when all the printers disconnect from the network.Not only that, sometimes the default WEP security authentication key changes to "shared key", instead of "automatic", and then Samsung ML-1630W Personal Wireless Mono Laser Printer disconnects from the network.When this router works, the speed is good: 270 MBs for N network and 54 MBs for 802.11g. the range is fairly decent, definitely better than Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router. After wasting hours due to the problems caused by this router, my advice would be to stay away from NETGEAR WNDR3300 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router.

I am using this modem+router with my ATT connection and finding it a nice device. The modem and wireless router combination is stable and the quality of signal is good. Overall a nice device in a appropriate price.

It was easy to setup and it generally works. However, I'm having 2 major issues with it:1. WiFi signal is not strong and my home devices in far rooms constantly lose connection to it. Even laptop that was connected fine in the morning shows no connectivity in the evenning. So, I have to reboot router all the time to restore signal strength.2. The NAS feature (ReadiShare) doesn't support other than English language file names. Basically, if you attach external USB hard drive to it and there are files that have file names in other than English, you will not be able to see them at all.These are serious limitations, so beware.

Installation was not difficult at all - much more difficult than the software installation was getting AT&T on the line to provide a dummy account, addresses, etc. If you can install software like MS Office, for instance, you can definitely do this. It will take about 15 minutes and you are guided through every step of the way.Reliability is excellent. In nearly a year of constant use, left on almost constantly, this modem has never crashed. DSL router modems are essentially little computers, and this one is built well both in terms of physical and software architecture. My connection is a low cost one, about $13 a month through ATT, and it is capped at 75kbps. I am consistently getting download rates of between 56-76kbps. I am confident that if I had a faster connection it would perform correspondingly better.Heat distribution is also excellent. I am not sure why some claim that this modem overheats easily, but I am in Los Angeles where the temperature indoors often reaches into the 90s. Remember that I leave this on almost constantly... and bear in mind that I didn't use the little brackets that let it stand upright (improves heat dissipation) for about 10 months (I put the brackets in when I decided it would save space). It has never overheated.Signal strength is great. I run two laptops off of this wirelessly. Not a problem. Laptops auto detect and handshake almost immediately. On the few occasions I turn it on after turning it off, it reassumes a connection and begins broadcasting almost right away.Cost to Efficacy is extremely high because this is a device that saves a lot of money over a piecemeal solution (modem, router, wireless point, etc) that works extremely well. Quality product.Security measures and internal software are also excellent. I can easily tell who's logged onto my router and there are a variety of security methods to choose from. This is much better than my fiance's linksys, for instance, which aside from frequently losing signal also has very limited security measures.My only complaint is that it says there is an on/off switch but there isn't. if there is, i can't find it. Not necessary anyway, though, because I simply hit the button on the power strip in order to turn it off if I'm not going to be home for a while.

This a wonderful router, It is so much easier to setup than I though it would be. There are extremely helpful instruction with pictures to setup. The performance is great to too, and works great as my new modem.

This router is HORRIBLE. There is a firmware issue making the device loose signal and speed randomly about every 20 minutes if there are other computers connected. My speed will suddenly crawl to 1mbps even though I pay for 5mbps. I called the company, and they said I had to PAY to get customer service even though their product doesn't work. DO NOT BUY THIS.

I am a long time fan of Netgear products. Unfortunately, that might change with this product. Router was very easy to set up as older models (did I mention this was probably the 5th Netgear router I have purchased, not to mention recommended to friends and family). The problem is with the N standard I think. It just does not work. Under 5 GHz mode, n does not deliver the speed of g. The router was located just upstairs from the WNDA3100 adapter I was using and speeds were horrible to say the least. I switched the n to the 2.4GHz option and the router became very unstable for my g devices. When it wasn't dropping the signal I was finally getting n speeds about 1.5x that of g. I spent hours on the net checking all available settings to resolve the issue, but alas ended up packaging up the router to return. Will probably go with a Range Max g unit instead. N is just not ready for prime time - do some research before buying.

As many other users pointed out if you are planning to use it on AT&T DSL in California you will need to download and install an older North American firmware from Netgear website. Otherwise the unit will either not sense DSL in the line or will fail to reconnect.However, after the firmware downgrade, you get an excellent, reliable modem for a very attractive price.

Despite what I have read concerning the DGN3500, I have had absolutely no problems that I can attribute to the DGN300. Actually, I have had very few problems at all despite my complicated wired and wireless system. My home network consist of the DGN3500, Netgear WNDA3100 wireless for my notebook, WET610N Linksys for my wireless connection to my DirecTV HDDVR, and a USB to Gigabit Ethernet AX88178 adapter for my wired computer, plus wifi connection for my Iphone4. Everthing works. I used the DGN3500 as a direct replacement for the 2Wire of AT&T because of the greater bandwidth. I now stream HD content between my computer and my HDTV and vice-versa. I have a quad core AMD processor, I believe X4 820. Completely satisfied.

Extremely easy to set-up and use. Range is slightly better than my old router. I've only had one problem with it. Once it completely stopped working -- couldn't connect to the internet at all. I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and it started working again.

UPDATE 8/20/2012I upgraded my WNDR3300 V1 to Firmware Version 1.0.45 (North America only) and the results have been good. I was able to run 2 separate streams fro Netflix, download large files from my NAS, run YOUTUBE videos, and surf without any blips. At the same time I monitored my ping rates to my ISP and nothing less than 29ms with all of this activity.=======================This is a basic router that doesn't have all the latest Netgear bells and whistles. At this time, for this price, I'd recommend either the WNDR3400 or WNDR3700.Stay tuned.===========7/19/2011Well time marches on. The 3300 is a very good router, especially if you can get a refurb for 30 bucks, but for 10 bucks more you may be able to find a 3400 refurb. The 3400 is a better router, more features, faster processor, and is also stable. There's a problem with the timezone feature of the 3400; beta f/w is available directly from netgear.

Router was constantly dropping connections and I was about to throw it out with the trash but then I upgraded the firmware and tried it again. Never lost a connection after that, worked great. I would recommend, but you will definitely need to upgrade the firmware.

This router solved the problem I had with too many corners in my house from LinkSys router to laptop, so when my nephew's router had similar but worse capability (he has satellite ISP; I have cable) I got the Netgear router for him as a Christmas/birthday gift (and so I can access the internet more easily when I visit!) He tells me it works fine too.

this product is very easy to use as is any other push to connect router. i bought this for the 5ghz band which doesnt seem to have as far of a range as 2.4ghz. this may just be my experience but on all my devices i get a stronger signal with the 2.4ghz connection. lights are very bright and go crazy flashing but can easily be turned off

I bought 2 refub units to use as repeaters linked to the home unit WNDR3300. Netgear's example of configuration as a repeater left a bit to be desired, so a bit of experimentation yielded great results. Also, there is no tech support from Netgear for refurbs, sad. The units work very well as repeaters and so far after a month, I have not had to reset either one or restart. Range extension is roughly 50-60 feet with a good signal of 3 bars. Yahoo loads quickly and even the games on MickeyMouse Clubhouse run w/o jitter or hesitation. Grand daughter loves it! With the repeater we were able to transmit approx 125 feet: From base to workshop, to daughter's house, which translates transmitting through 5 walls. Not shabby at all!For the price you get great value and performance--but them, you will like the units abilities.

Was trying to set up a Foscam IP cam and really messed up all my router settings. Netgear support in India did a great job of telling me step by step how to reset everything.Then later they called back to see if it was working Ok. Plus they even took careof the product registration that I had forgotten all about. Until I messed with it,the router had been working great on both the antique Mac G4 and the awful PC laptop.

I bought this router with high hopes and expectations since I've owned 3 different Netgear routers in the past and have had no problems with them. The biggest problem I had with this router was that it would freeze up and lose connection upwards of 10 times a day. I'd have to unplug it and plug it back in to get the connection going again. Also, the flashing blue lights of the antenna's are quite annoying if this router is going to be in the room where you sleep. I switched to the Cisco Linksys E3000 router and absolutely love it. I would recommend that router over this one.

I bought this router because I recently upgraded my network to wireless N. This router is easy to set up and provides decent signal range(could be better though). I have not yet tried the 5Ghz range. Using the N standard, it definitely increases transfer speeds which is a plus to me. Overall a great router and would choose Netgear again.

For those of you who are using this router for your home use, it is a great wireless router, I did a couple of simple tests on this unit and everything turned out pretty good on this, I have also outlined a few tips on improving your internet speed either with your existing router or with a different router like this. See below for my tests and its results.If you use VPN, scroll down below for the list of VPN software with which it works.Speed Test==========(1) This router performed very well on speed test, I tested on Wireless N and Wireless G and here is what I found: My old Linksys 802.11g router - 6087 kb/sec 2.4 GHz - 6894 kb/sec 5 GHz - 7048 kb/sec Do you see how fast it is !! It might also be good idea to get a Wireless-N adapter or if you are still shopping for a laptop, go for something with wireless-N built in.The best way to check your wireless internet speed is by visiting this website - http://www.speedtest.net - click on the pyramid icon on this website and once the tests are done, click on the tab called 'My Summary' to view your results. Take the measurements of the speed with wireless and also with wired internet - the download should not differ by any more than 10 % between wired/wireless speeds.** Change your wireless channel **A very important configuration on your wireless router is to configure your channel. If you live in a community where all your neighbours are running wireless connections - your speed may decrease if you are the same channel, so login to your router configuration page (details on the router or its user manual) and change the transmission channel. By default the Netgear routers are configured to channel 6 which is good because most other routers or on channel 1 - if you still need to try it out, try any other channel (there are 11 of them) and test the internet speed to see if it helps.Range Test==========I tested this router all the way to my apartment parking (about 100 feet away) - there was a drop in speed, but definitely the speed was much better speed than the linksys wireless G router. Unless you are willing to share your internet to your whole community, this range should be good enough even for a large house with multiple rooms. Make sure that you place your router in a central location.Versatality============Just a few words here - Having dual bands - 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz makes a lot of sense. 2.4 GHz spectrum is filled up with lots of other wireless routers, cordless phones, wireless cameras ..., I do not know when we will have a similar scene with the 5 GHz - but for right now, you get great speeds and a lot less interference in 5 GHzVPN Compatibility=================Works great with the following VPN clients: AGNS (AT & T VPN client) - works well Nortel Netdirect VPN - works well** Does not work with the following VPN client: Nortel Contivity VPN - Tried every setting on the router, port forwarding, triggering ... - nothing helps. Nortel support did try to help - but they could not figure out what was happening. If I replace this router with my linksys - the vpn works great, so I guess Netgear needs to work on their router firmware.Negatives========== * Does not have Nortel Contivity VPN support * Having 8 LEDs flashing is a visual irritant and a distraction - Netgear could have saved some money here and passed on the benefits to us (the buyer)
