Well I m having a video tape compatible camcorder and I was very worriers about my memories tape being worn out as VHS tape don't stay at good condition for long time, so I was looking for a product that could convert my tape in digital format. So ultimately amazon.com helped me in this matter by sending the required product so fast and I m completely satisfied by the product and by the service provided by AMAZON....thanks AMAZON

I have a new 27 inch I Mac and this worked great. I coped over 100 hours from my Hi* video camera without a problem.

Just finished converting 60+ home movies using the Elgato Video Capture Device and I'm very pleased with it's performance. At an $80 price point, it doesn't offer all of the features a more elaborate package might, but it certainly gets the job done. I'd pay another $20 if it meant the software that accompanied the cable had additional features available (Start & Stop, Preview, etc.) However, if you're looking to convert your own media, this is a solid tool to do it. Highly recommend.

Super easy to use; easy to capture the video stream. Can even use it to act as a simple pass-thru to watch the video source without recording it. Keep in mind though, this is JUST a video-capture tool... there are no editing or enhancing aspects that come along with it. That will have to be done in another program. It costs more than double other capture devices, but I have a PC and a MAC, so this is totally worth it.

Got this product to be able to save DVR recordings from my cable box to my Macbook Air. Setup took less than two minutes. Quality is not HD, but for the price the unit works great.

It works! There really isn't anything to say after that, but I'll try to make the 20 words. OK. The main thing is the quality looks pretty good, and it's real time, so it is only takes as long as you make it. For people with a more modern DV recorder, I guess you could consider a two step process, moving the VHS over to a mini DV tape, then to you computer, but if your Digital Video Recorder is a little older, this is by far the best way to go, if you are a MAC user, unless you want to spring for a lot more $$$. The directions could have said to install the software, make the hook up connections, and turn the VHS Recorder ON! It forgot that part, but no problem. You can screw up completely but you will eventually get it with this device because it is so EASY. I went up to the Elgato site before starting, to obtain the most current software, since I'm on a Lion IMac with a targetted Mac Pro, just to skip the potential need to upgrade. You probably don't have to do that but why not! The bottom line here is that this is a flawless device with software to match. I'm giving it 4 stars, so that I don't look like a groupie or something. I would be hard put to come up with a negative but I gave it 4 stars because it was just to dam simple. It has a lot of potential, so it's going to be a lot of fun to work with and not have to worry about everything going crackers on you. You just do video. All those home movies that only you will watch. The kind that bring tears to your eyes, not because they are so bad (they're pretty bad, though) but because it's about family and the little things you did together that were so BIG.

Very, very simple and easy to use. Connected to my MAC loaded software and connected devise as instructions show you to do.

Simple as can be and does the trick. The interface is dead simple but gives a number of useful options, including export to iMovie, etc. It just works, without problems, right out of the box.I had a Mathey version of the same thing, but the software no longer seems to be supported for new versions of OS X and I couldn't get any help whatsoever from their support, so I sold it and got this. Great decision.I'm almost done digitizing a slew of videotape archives; next it's on to the audio cassettes.

I copied about 50 old home videos to my Mac Mini without a problem. The software was easy to use, the hardware was reliable and the results were higher quality than I expected. I heard the device works for Windows too.

I can't speak to the functionality with Windows based machines, but this converter really performs as advertised. Good enough conversion for home videos and such, easy to use interface, and ready to go right out of the box. Well designed and user friendly. If you're looking for a simple go between device for capturing anything with RCA outputs, and don't need a whole lot in terms of editing/post production, this device will do the trick. I took on the (time-underestimated) task of converting my in-laws family home videos to digital format, and this unit did well in converting nearly 150 home videos. Couldn't ask for more, and worth it for the price.

The problem with this on windows 7 systems is that the audio skips a lot!!! The video is okay but just average and acceptable. If the audio worked, the item would be worth about $20. But since it doesn't even do that, it's bascially worthless. AVOID!!!

it does not hook up to all tvs it also is not a video game recording device. do not make the same mistake if you are trying to become a video game commentator on youtube

The product worked as expected - descent hardware quality, software user interface and performance. Bought the product to convert some family video on DVDs to digital form (.mp4) for archive/backup purpose. The hardware and software installation was straightforward - didn't encounter any issues. The video capture application, Elgato Video Capture, was easy to operate: connect the hardware as instructed then follow the on-screen instructions. Didn't run into problems while converting videos.Hardware & OS: MacBook Pro 15" running OSX 10.7.5 (Lion).

Having the ability to transfer almost 20 year old 8mm analog video to digital and then show the footage on the flat screen TV was a highlight of families holiday gatherings. it's just now trying to figure out all the nuances of the iMovie software and editing that is time consuming. But it is worth it.

Plug it in, and it just works. My Hi-8 (or 8mm) camcorder tapes were moved to my Mac sooooo easily, and I don't have to worry about it anymore! Yay! Now I just have to take the time to edit and move to DVD.

This product is just as advertised. It's very easy to set up (plug one end into a USB port and the other into the back of your VCR) and the capture process is only a couple of clicks. The picture quality is great and the ability to quickly export the finished product to iTunes, YouTube, and/or iMovie is wonderful. Great product all the way around.

Simple and prefect for what I need it to do. Works great for my Mac books. Just wish it shipped/processed faster and that it came with the S-video cable. Great product. If your a windows user, I'm under the impression that it doesn't with for anything below the 7 version.

You can't configure much, but you don't need to. It just works. I used the Windows version on Windows 7. Records 640x480 into an MP4 container using H.264. Be careful when trying to crop using the Elgato software though. The way H.264 works, you can only crop on an I-frame and it's not easy to see which one it's going to snap you to. I open the resulting video file in Media Cope or another editor to crop.
