I'm actually surprised this camera has high ratings. I'm a huge Canon Fan, but my last two purchases have really disappointed me. This camera has an orange blur to almost indoor photo. It also has an incredibly slow shutter speed. If anything moves in the frame, the picture is awful. Considering I have a toddler and a puppy, imagine how many once in a lifetime moments I have missed. I love my Rebel, and also used to love my Canon powershot d10 (waterproof) until it just stopped working one year after I got it. Will be trying other brands from now on.

Great pics, rugged, super long range telephoto lens, and easy to use dials. I carry this with me on my motorbike while touring and it works great. My photos turn out nicely and I enjoy the quick start time of the camera.

Few things are more useful to a traveler than knowing where a photo was taken. Sure, the GPS function EATS battery...but hey, keep a second battery on hand, and you're golden. The tradeoff is well worth it.

I ordered this camera on black friday in 2012. I had to replace it within a month because it was having issues. Amazon was great about the replacing it (replaced in January), but the replacement camera also developed problems that progressively got worse. There is something wrong with the screen -- like there are lines across it -- so I can't tell if I have a good picture or not. the same problem now happens when reviewing the pictures taken. Unfortunately it can't be returned now. It's been less than a year. This is the worst camera I've had.

I am not a professional photographer. I travel and take pictures for fun.And this camera indeed gives me a lot of fun.It is easy to take. Battery life is good if you don’t use gps (2nd battery around 5 dollar on ebay ).I would say this is the best point and shoot camera I have ever use.Better than my iphone 5. The zoom is incredible. 500mm equivalent focus. You can shoot a full moon on your screen if you use all the zoom. I shoot a lot of animals with it.Full HD video is very clear. I can snap the screen from the video and post it on facebook. No one can tell the different.Several shortcomings1 when taking video there is some high frequency background noise (not from zooming) when environment is quiet.2 low light focus, Sometimes do not focus in low light. (Almost every point and shoot camera has this problem due to the sensor size)3 image quality at 20X is low due to the lens. (almost every supper zoom camera has similar problems).To summarize this is the one camera for all purpose. I use it together with my iphone.Since Iphone 5 use fixed focus lens f/2/4. It is very good for portrait. And this camera is a very good complementary camera for iphone. Because it has powerful zoom at this size.

This camera is easy to use and does better in low light situations that my old Kodak did. I like that it videotaped in HD but be prepared for the videos to take a lot of space on your memory card because of that (a 5 minute video was almost 1 GB).I don't care for the pop-up flash because it can be annoying when you are trying to focus on a picture and I have to train myself o move my left index finger in case the flash decides to pop up.

This is a Canon. For me, that means tradition. Everyone in my family has a Canon. Even my in-laws had Canons, which was ironic. So when my previous orange Canon got submerged in water and stopped working, I looked for another Canon. First off, this is not a deep red. It has some pink mixed in. Guys, it's not a masculine-looking camera. Second, the pictures come out clear...as long as they are not blurry. I thought this little problem might be fixed since the write-up bragged that it was, but apparently not. You still get A LOT of blurry pictures, which is not just the fault of the user. I can be holding completely still, the flash will not go off in a dim place, and voila, a blurry picture. I still haven't figured out the manual options for the camera. The instruction book that came with it is vague and doesn't even begin to touch the myriad of potential options this camera seems to offer. Which leaves me, the inexperienced, unprofessional user, with a normal point and click camera that does nothing extraordinary for the price. Sad for me. A professional could probably work magic on this little device that still takes good pictures as long as everything is perfect. It is compact, which is nice for sticking in a purse to capture those little moments that may come unexpectedly. Guys, go for a different color. Seriously. But do enjoy this camera because it is still a Canon, and I think a Canon is still the best point and click camera for amateurs like me.

If you hold the camera with your left hand, you won't be able to use the flash, it pops up under your finger. Not a good idea, it takes nice pictures. If you hold down the flash with your finger, you can break it. I would advise to take out some insurance.

Long-time fan of Cannon cameras vs Nikon, in regards to the small digital ones. Frankly, I will never buy a Digital (small) Nikon Camera ever again. Cheaply made. Terrible lens. Plastic. This Cannon has been great for the point-and shoot. Nice Zoom. Easy to use. It is a little larger than (comfortable) pocket-size for me, but well-made, nice-sized screen, nice features. Works great for this price range.

I bought this because I was looking for a camera with good zoom but that was smaller than my bulky ultra zoom. This camera fits the bill. It is small enough that even in its case I can slip it into my purse, which is average in size, not small but not huge either. I do not use it daily so battery life is not a real issue for me. I have taken hundreds of pics and a few videos and even with reviewing them I still have battery left. I carry an extra battery just in case but usually I can take all the pics I need with one battery. The zoom is great. I have found the 20x is adequate for my needs so this camera works perfectly. Picture quality is great. I do find sometimes I have to refocus though as it focuses on something other than my subject. The color is definitely more of a pink rather than red. The only real issue I have had is the flash, which I believe others have mentioned. Sometimes I find my finger over the flash when it wants to pop up. Being a small camera though there was only so many places they could put the flash I suppose. I have not used all of the features, mostly auto which works great.In summary if you are looking for a small camera with good zoom and picture quality then this may be the camera for you. I really like it.

The camera takes great pictures and with the zoom and vibration control you almost never miss a shot. My reservations are in the menu system (too confusing) and the GPS (too confusing and kills the battery). I've had the camera for 2 months and still can't figure out how to take continuous shots (though i;ve done it accidentally, even with the manual it makes no sense). The GPS can be difficult to turn on and off and seems to almost have a mind of its own as to when its going to record the data. I left the camera turned off for 2 weeks and the battery (which had been fully charged) was dead. Makes i8t difficult to keep the camera ready to go. I have a Nikon D3000 and wanted something small that I can carry with me. I've had more inexpensive pocket cameras from Kodak in the past and with both I've had no problems figuring out how to use everything without using the owners manual. With the SX260 I've learned to carry it with me and refer to it when doing anything other than auto. The charges is great in that its very compact., but how bout a way to charge by using a USB cable to your laptop?The camera has lots of potential if Canon tried just a little bit harder.

I took my 15MP Kodak Easyshare camera with a 3x optical zoom to a rocket launch that I attended for work. I like this camera a lot for quick and easy shots, but in this application, the zoom was not powerful enough, it took too long to focus and recycle times between shots was horrible. One of my workmates had his Canon SX260 with him and I noticed he wasn't having these problems. When I returned, I researched the Canon, liked the features and reviews and bought one.The Canon overcame all of my objections with the Kodak camera and has proven to be a fast, reliable and competent unit that I'm happy to have.Pros: powerful optical zoom, fast recycle time between shots (and can still take another photo while it's storing the last one), all the features you could possibly imagine.Cons: it's a bit on the heavy side, the image stabilization isn't all that effective at high zoom settings and the auto focus *sometimes* has trouble through the windshield at moderate to high zoom settings.Summary: for the price I don't think this camera can be beat and I would buy it again. If you need more than this camera provides you're bordering on needing a professional quality model.

Wonderful walk-around camera. I've had it for a couple of years and it's the best pocket camera that I've owned. The 20x optical zoom does a great job. I've printed 8x10's and they are sharp. Decent 3200 ISO for a point and shoot.

Purchased this camera to take on a tourist safari in Africa earlier this year. The zoom works great, the pictures turn out beautifully, and I'll bet the setting options other than "auto" are probably good, too! ;) I also bought the same camera for my 82 year old, less than tech. savvy grandfather and he is thoroughly impressed with it as well!

I've been a long-time Canon user. When I decided to update my camera, I did my research and the SX260HS came up as one of the best options. I bought it in October from Amazon, and have used it for a couple months now. All in all, I absolutely hate this camera. Among other things - such as a ridiculously short battery life - the pictures are horrible.People in the side or top of the photo have either warped faces or elongated heads. If people are moving, they show up as a blurry 'streak' in the photo. Looking at my recent Christmas photos, I'd say that maybe 1 out of 10 actually turned out. (and yes, I've checked the settings twice now, and they seem to be correct)I'm going to call Canon, as maybe it's a mechanical issue that's under warranty - you never know. But as it stands right now, I would absolutely 100% not recommend this camera to anyone.(UPDATE: Following the above review, I sent it in for warranty work. Appears there was a problem with the camera, which would probably account for the problems I was experiencing. For their part, Canon's warranty process was excellent, and I got my camera back VERY quickly. Haven't really used it since, so can't comment on how a properly-functioning camera works.)(UPDATE #2: Had a chance to use it during spring break. The outdoor pictures (sunshine, blue sky, etc) are amazing. The indoor pictures (with and without a flash) still don't seem that good. Still some blurry streaks, out of focus, and quite a delay from when you press the button & it takes the picture. Sorry, still can't recommend this camera.)

I bought this for my wife and she loves the quality of pictures that this camera takes. It has great zoom so if you need to take a picture from far away it still stays pretty clear. I read a LOT of reviews on all similar cameras and it all comes down to what you want from the camera. I would recommend reading the manual or watching the Getting Started disk it comes with because there are a lot of things you can do with the camera. The only negative thing is the position of the flash. It pops up on the top left and if you finger is covering it, then it won't come up all the way and you will have to re-take the picture. Not that big of a deal though. I really do like the quality of the pictures though because it comes pretty close to a DSLR, but it is not as big and bulky as one. I would recommend this camera to anyone that wants a smaller camera but still takes great pictures.

Pros:-The 20x zoom is very useful and the stabilization mechanism is adecuate.-Works very good in low light condition, even without flash.-Multiple shot mode is really nice and at full resolution. And it's quite noiseless.-Body is almost completely made of metal, rather than plastic.-Shutter button feels comfortable and responsive-Camera powers on/off in less than 2 seconds-A lot of manual adjustments can be made, including aperture, focus, or shutter speed.-I liked the quality of the screen, the resolution is good enough.-The video resolution can be up to 1080 at 25fps in normal mode, and up to 480 at 120fps in slow motion mode. The recorded sound is very good.-Compared with the canon elph300hs (a nice point and shoot which I own), the image quality is much more detailed and less noisy, even though the elph300hs is not a bad camera at all.Cons:-The mechanism for pop open/closing the flash is not very likeable:even though I disabled the flash in the camera setup, the flash still could be activated once again by changing to a scene mode that had flash ON by default. I would rather prefer allowing the flash ONLY when the main setup permits it.-The video mode won't allow any possible adjustment (rather than change resolution, of course), only zoom in/out, which I find quite limited. Recording videos in low light conditions is rather noisy and dark.-The battery will run out very quickly when recording videos.

We chose this camera because of the price and long zoom and we haven't been disappointed. We've taken some terrific zoom shots! It's a little awkward to hold, especially with the flash, but you get used to it. The batteries have proven to hold their charge well after the first charge.We had trouble with the automatic lens cover on the first camera we purchased, but returned that camera and received a replacement. It has been fine after steady use for over a month.Another feature we never thought we'd use, but are, is the GPS. We sail and on one outing we lost our bearing in the Chesapeake Bay. By mistake we had left out tablet at home with it's newly installed gps tracking and mapping application on it. The GPS on the camera rescued us. We used the GPS coordinates on the last picture taken to get our bearing and soon were back on course for the harbor.

I got this camera to take photos of my grandsons' band concerts. I appreciate all the reviewers who led me to choose this camera.It is easy to focus, download to my computer and the software is easy to use. The colors in the viewer when I'm taking the picture are not accurate in the pink/purple range. But the computer image was fine. Taking pictures of butterflies was somewhat frustrating because there is a time lag before I can take another shot. I just learned to work with this, because overall it meets my needs.

I have had a Canon SX40 for a few years and have been very pleased with pictures and video I have taken on many occasions. My big gripe with the camera is the cumbersome size. We are going to China and I wanted a high quality camera with a decent zoom that could be conveniently carried from place to place. After doing some reading I decided to purchase the SX260 a month ago and have not been disappointed with its performance. I have used it at a number of local events and a trip to California with my wife. I leave the camera on the Automatic setting. Camera reactiion time when you take a picture is very quick. The pictures are beautiful. The video is excellent. In fact I feel it is better than the video obtained with the SX40. The 20X zoom is ample, easy to use, and focus is quick and accurate. The major distraction for many people is the pop up flash. I disabled it and find that the camera is amply capable of taking excellent pictures in most light conditions. Battery life is modest. I find I am taking between 100 and 150 pictures before battery power decreases. I have purchased a few back up batteries at very modest prices ($12) from Amazon and keep at least one back up available. At this time I am seriously considering making the SX260 my main camera and selling the SX40. I strongly recommend the camera. It is very easy to use and the convenient size tends to grow on you.

One major flaw - the flash is located top left (a usual place, I know) but the camera is very thin, the top of the flash is also the natural place to hold the camera. Not a problem if the flash is off. But - if you're trying to change any settings and accidentally hit the flash button (trust me, it's REALLY easy to do this) then your finger blocks the flash and you have to re-start the camera before taking any pictures.Otherwise - I love the camera. The pictures are great, sharp, clear, and bright. I'm still getting used to the dial focus (which rings around the buttons for flash and some presets...hence the ease of accidentally hitting the flash button). The color select is FANTASTIC. It can be used as a point and shoot - or you can fiddle with the settings endlessly. It's light, fits in a pocket, convenient.

Hard to hold without it slipping out of hand. My Kodak 740 was far superior camera. Wish I hadn't bought this and would not recommend it. Was also led to believe a certain soft case went with it and purchased that and it didn't fit at all. Very disappointed with entire purchase.

I bought this camera for capturing images on hikes and backpacking trips. It does a great job ofcapturing sweeping vistas of mountains and lakes, however the color was more vibrant on the camerascreen than it appeared when I downloaded the photos to my computer. As well, I was hoping to takephotos of flowers up-close and the macro capabilities didn't satisfy my needs (it can take a photo from a distance of 5cm; I'd prefer a point and shoot that can get closer than this (1cm or so). Great camera, just not for me. I also worried aboutgetting it scratched, so a weatherproof/ruggedized camera would be a better fit.

Love. Love. Love. This camera is simple, has a fabulous zoom, has plenty of great settings. You can do more with it than I do, but even my hubbie (who is camera savvy) loves it. The colors are beautiful, pictures are clear. I often take photos of kids and animals, so it is wonderful to have a camera that can catch them inside and out!

I've been very happy with this camera. The zoom has worked well and the camera is easy to hold and use. We have taken many great pictures over the last 9 months.After using the camera for about 9 months, the screen has stopped working. Sometimes it will work just fine and at other times it is very dark. You can almost make out shapes, but you cannot see the image on the screen and you need the screen to use many of the settings. It can go back and forth without anyone touching the camera, so it is not a setting on the camera. This started happening one day while I was using the camera with no warning. I am researching warranty or replacement, but I am very disappointed. I have been a long time canon user, but this model has not lived up to my expectations.

I haven't used it as much as I would like but the pictures I have taken so far have been excellent. The zoom feature was great when I took pictures of the Canadian Geese on the lake and the Bald Eagle flying across the lake.The camera is easy to handle, not too big and not too small but just right. My wife likes it and she needs simple and along with great features it is easy to use. Great camera.

I actually really love my old Canon camera and was really excited to try this based on the good reviews. But, the flash will pop up on the top left side of the camera exactly where you place your fingers. The book showed a different option to hold the camera, but it felt so awkward, so I decided to return it. Maybe a more seasoned photographer wouldn't mind, but for someone who just wants to capture everyday photos it didn't work for me. So, unfortunately I can't comment on the picture quality because the flash placement was a deal breaker for me. I felt like after so many times of your finger being in the way of the flash, it would eventually cause is to not come up at all, so that's why I returned it. I instead bought a similar camera with a 20x zoom, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS25 and so far am really happy with it.

I'll add my voice to the 900(!)who've already said mostly positive things about this camera. What motivates me is the 2nd or 3rd time I dropped it on the pavement. Banged it up a it, but no functional loss. Made me appreciate the solid metal construction. It's the best pocket super zoom I've had since the last time Canon made a really good one about 7 or 8 years ago. I was disappointed enough by their products in the intervening years that I bought a pricier Samsung. Man, was that a mistake! I'm a professional photographer, 32 solo exhibitions. The only reason I'm not giving this model 5 stars is there's still room for a stronger zoom. But indoor and night shots without a zoom: really good (though a bit too much bright side color correction). Probably best in class.

We used our most recent family vacation as an excuse to upgrade our digital camera. We had neither the budget nor interest to invest in an expensive DSLR model - we wanted high quality pictures in a point-and-shoot form factor. The PowerShot SX260 fit our needs perfectly. Clear, crisp pictures and HD video, all worlds better than our typical smartphone pictures. The only reservation I have about giving the PowerShot SX260 five stars is the clunky interface and slow response time overall. For the feature set available I would expect an onboard processor up to the task.

The zoom is amazing and the pictures mostly come out really clear. The only place I don't get great pictures is when I'm taking pictures in low light. It may just be that I need to use it a little more and figure out the settings that work best in dark conditions (like a restaurant at night). The only other comment I have is that this camera feels big compared to other pocket digital cameras I've had, but I'm fine with having a little thicker camera in exchange for such an impressive zoom lens.

I bought this to replace the same camera I stupidly dropped and broke. Lesson learned is to definitely buy a small case to carry the camera. For ease of use this camera is great. The lens retracts closed and flat which I love. The 20x digital zoom is great. My only complaint is the somewhat slow reaction time when taking a flash photo. Photos themselves are sharp and colors are great. Great little camera for a reasonable price.
