Великолепно

отличная модель

Решила купить цифровой фотоаппарат тк качество фото на телефоне меня совсем не устраивает, пропустила столько интересных кадров. Предпочтение отдала Кэнону, тк у них самая качественная оптика. По размерам он небольшой, легко помещается в сумку в месте с телефоном, ношу его с собой постоянно.

Фотоаппарат вполне стоит своих денег.

• + Мощный зум, стабилизатор, скромные размеры, логичное меню, два года гарантии, сборка - Япония.
• - Много дополнительных функций (например, режимов съёмки), которые мне лично не нужны.

У старичка Canon SX120IS сломался объектив и ремонтировать его я посчитал нецелесообразным. Стал искать замену - компактный ультразум - и выбор снова пал на Canon - уже модели SX260 HS.

Одна из "фишек" всех Кэнонов, и 260го в частности - простое и понятное меню. Всё на своих местах - именно там, где ожидаешь увидеть - даже без досконального изучения инструкции.

Режимов съёмки - выше крыши. Всеми не пользуюсь. Более того, большинством не пользуюсь вообще и считаю, что их наличие - это чистый маркетинг. HDMI не использую тоже, хотя, наверное, для кого-то он и вправду полезен. А вот встроенный GPS показался штукой удобной - не надо запоминать, где сделан тот или иной снимок.

Качество съёмки даже в режиме Auto - очень достойное, хотя, Кэноны традиционно немного "желтят", но это убирается простенькой обработкой снимка. Да и зум со стабилизатором порадовали - близко к максимуму, конечно, уже не совсем айс, но вполне терпимо. Качество Видео тоже в целом неплохое.

Право, я сомневался, стоит ли покупать фотоаппарат на литий-ионном аккумуляторе - ведь батареи АА можно купить на каждом углу. Мои сомнения не полностью, но развеяны. Да, действительно АА доступнее в этом плане (чуть что - съёмку можно завершить, купив в ближайшем магазине несколько одноразовых), но и литий-ионник, как оказалось, довольно живуч. Хотя, я сразу заказал и дополнительный.

Начну с того, что камерой пользуюсь несколько месяцев, поэтому пишу отзыв не по первым впечатлениям.

Камера покупалась для ежедневной носки в сумке, на более редкие моменты - есть зеркальная камера. Но, хоть и сложно это бывает сделать, но постараюсь абстрагироваться от сравнения с зеркалкой.

К достоинствам можно отнести небольшой вес, компактность, большой диапазон фокусных расстояний, соотношение цена/качество. Недостатки камеры напрямую связаны с достоинствами: 1) чтобы сохранить цену, матрица стоит маленькая (КМОП), мегапикселей запихнули много, поэтому матрица шумит. 2) чтобы получить такой зум,...

Старый Кенон долго служил, поэтому снова решил купить кенон. Плюсы : хорошая вспышка, зум неплохой, джи пи эс - можно наблюдать на карте где фотографировался, сборка Япония. Минусы: Джи пи ес нужен только для просмотра места фотографирования, без того слабый аккумулятор сильно сажает джи пи эс, поэтому я его отключил, при съемке видео нет возможности пользоваться зумом. При всех минусах менять не пойду. По сравнению с предыдущей моей мыльницей 7-летний давности нормальный фотик, зум и вспышка меня подкупили.

• - 1. Шторки царапают объектив при попадании песка, пыли и т.п. Царапают сильно и регулярно. Про снимки на море, в пустыне лучше забыть - запорете объектив. Объектив большой, места, куда может забиться песок, полно. Так что вытащить его не получится. Да, и в кармане его тоже лучше не носить, тоже забьется чем-нибудь.
  2. Глючный режим "авто" - плохо переключается в режим макро, непонятно, по какому принципу фотоаппарат определяет, на каком объекте фокусироваться. Плохо фотографирует при очень ярком освещении - цвета получаются совсем неестественные
  3. Вспышка - неудобно вылезает сверху. При незнании может выбить фотоаппарат из рук
  4. Тормозит...

До этого у меня был Canon PowerShot A720 IS,купленный в 2007-м году.Отличный был фотоаппарат,отличные сочные фотки,хотя иногда и смазанные получались.Но его я потерял и решил,что появился наконец повод приобрести новый.Хотелось именно компакт с мощным зумом. После недолгого анализа предлагаемых к продаже моделей сделал вывод,что Canon PowerShot SX260 HS-то что мне нужно...Ошибся!
Читал перед покупкой все отзывы про него и среди них кроме положительных...

Купили с мужем этот аппарат примерно 2 месяца назад . Во-первых вспышка . Спрятана в корпус , очень яркая , да в добавок можно настраивать её яркость вручную ! Во-вторых качество фото . Очень красивые снимки получаются , плюс к этому огромное количество режимов съёмки , есть из чего выбрать . Муж немного поковырялся в ручных настройках и фотки стали получаться очень яркие и натуральные (режим авто не сравнится :)) . Плюс к этому имеется отдельная кнопка для записи видео ! Это большой плюс для аппарата , с учётом того , что и видео он снимает неплохо . Плюс к этому всему Canon устроила акцию для всех покупателей . Можно получить бесплатные персональные онлайн уроки фотоаппаратирования ( :-) ) и бесплатно заказать фотокнигу. В общем покупкой полностью довольны и будем рекомендовать всем друзьям . И вам рекомендуем !

• + 1. Очень компактный.
  2. Наличие полностью ручного режима.
  3. Отличная работа зума и стабилизатора.
  4. Качественный автоматический режим (на первом фотоаппарате на автомате был сделан первый десяток снимков сразу после покупки, после чего о его существовании забыла, а тут получаются очень красивые картинки)
  5. Отключаемая функция подавления шумов.
  6. Стекло экрана в одном уровне с задней панелью.
  7. Наличие "шпионского" режима.
  8. Не слишком требователен к классу флэшки. Первые фотографии были сделаны на флэшку 4 класса - качественной съемке это не помеха, скорость записи фото высокая.
  9. Можно настраивать баланс белого абсолютно под любое освещение (главное найти белую поверхность)!
  10. Баловство.... но наличие разных "творческих" настроек (выделение одного цвета, замена одного цвета на другой...) дает возможность "поиграть" с фотоаппаратом :))))
• - Все недостатки из сравнения с моим предыдущим:
  1. Нельзя самостоятельно создавать папки записи (на Sony их можно было создать хоть 20 штук для одного дня, или напротив создать одну и больше вообще не парится).
  2. На мой взгляд, не слишком удобное меню настроек приходится проматывать весь список чтобы выбрать нужную настройку(в Сони оно было разбито на несколько групп - более коротких списков).
  3. Не сохраняет настройки для разных режимов. Скорее всего так у всех Canon'ов, но тем не менее, было бы здорово если б можно выставлять настройки для разных режимов не зависимо друг от друга, т. е. например для режима M ISO100 а для режима AV ISO 200 (при переключении в другой режим значение ISO меняется на то которое было установлено на нем, когда им пользовались в последний раз). - Так было на Sony и было удобно, позволяло быстрее изменять настройки при различных условия.
  4. Прожорливый! (опять же сравнивая с Сони)
  5. Дорогой он еще - модель только появилась и цена несколько завышена.

Фотоаппарат оставляет очень приятные...

• + Маленькая легкая камера с отличными параметрами. 20х кратный зум это что то нечто, можно рассмотреть такие детали которые глазу вообще не видны. Так же зум работает при видеосъемке. Отлично фокусируется, много настроек ручных. Видео в формате Full HD. Есть GPS но я им не пользуюсь так как для отображения данных нужна программа в компьютере дополнительно. Сделан в Японии, гарантия 2 года.
• - Поджирает батарейку, поэтмоу купил вторую про запас, чтобы можно было продолжать снимать в длительных путешествиях.
  Вспышка выезжающая вверх как...

• + Оптич. стабилизатор, 1000 аккум(на одном сайте писали 740), количество сделанных фото - около 300 при съемке 3-5 мин. много режимов, высокоскоростная съемка(до 240 к\сек); в отличие от 210го удобная кнопка зума, зум( если использовать цифровой, то 80х), качество фотографий и съемки
• - долговатая фокусировка, если надо часто и на ходу фоткать, то половина размазанных фотографий;
  звук при записи видео(в отзывах кто-то об этом писал, похоже это такой дефект)
  через раз неполностью закрываются створки, надо или снова включать\выключать или пальцем))

покупал на новый год, потому...

• + Малый вес, компактность, супер зум, качество фото (для своего класса), стабилизатор отлично работает.
• - Неудобно управлять коррекцией экспозиции. Шумит начиная с iso400 (как и все конкуренты). Мылит на больших значениях зума ( неудивительно при макс. зуме в 500мм ). Хват не особо удобный. Нет HDR. Внешний вид спорный.

Покупал для съёмки в основном объектов недвижимости (интерьеров и экстерьеров). Аппарат отрабатывает по полной. Стабилизатор работает безукоризненно (вспышкой практически не пользуюсь, только при сильном перепаде освещения).
Сравнивал с панасоник dmc lx7...

• + Заменил свой Canon sx210 is на эту модель. Поэтому буду сравнивать с этим фотоаппаратом.
  - Шире угол и больше приближение. 20x вместо 14x.
  - Исо стали лучше. Появилось 3200.
  - Сделали хват для пальцев справа, а то держать было неудобно 210.
  - Вспышка больше не выпрыгивает в ручных режимах. В 210 она в обязательном порядке подымалась.
  - Рычажок зума стал намного удобнее.
  - Экран стал побольше.
  - Видео вроде как лучше, но я особо не сравнивал.
• - - Разрешение сделали L - 12 мегапикселей, а M1 - только 6. У canon sx210 М1 был 9 мегапикселей, его я и ставил всегда.
  - Аккумулятор у 210 был более ёмким - 1120mAh, а тут только 1000. Хотя второй придётся покупать по любому
  - Ремешок для запястье стал лучше, но могли бы ползунок-замочек для него сделать, чтобы регулировать петлю.
  - Экспонометр также любит подвирать, осветляя кадр. Лечится...

  3. приличное качество видео (только старый формат)
  4. неплохой зум (хоть реально и не 20 -учитавая особенности широкоуг. объектива примерно 14-16). Качество при использовании только оптического зума не меняется!
• - 1.качество асферической линзы в объективе ниже любого ожидаемого уровня. Дисторсия при съёмке на широком угле не только огромная но и несимметричная. Сравнл с широкоуголкой другой фирмы, даже стаскал в сервисный ценр Canon, говорят нелинейные искажения особенность объектива. Готовьтесь лечить программами обработки изображений. Или снимайте портреты издалека в телережиме.

  ВОТ иммено что качество фото у него лучше чем у сони НХ20 и прочих,да и корпус из металла. В руках держать одно удовольствие.
  При хорошем освещении отличный результат.
  Вспышка там где надо а не под самим пальцем!)
• - видео снимает похуже чем НХ20 от сони за счет формата,но и этого вам хватит вполне. ГПС жрет акумулятор. больше придраться не...

I am in the process of having to replace my Power Shot A 650 IS and have been trying to find another Canon camera to take its place. I have been comparing various ones online and reading all the customer reviews. I figured out that the SX260 and the SX50 are basically the exact same camera but in two different classes. So I went with this SX260 because of the price difference.I take lots of pictures and I not a professional by any means. I found that the fish eye option is absolutely ridiculous unless you are taking a picture of a tree lined path or street and want it to appear like a tunnel. There is no landscape option which might seem fine but then leaves the user trying to figure out which setting is a good option for those scenic shots. I tested out the optical zoom and while it does get you up close and personal to a far off object it does not take a great picture of said object. I also noticed that the camera is jumpy. I don't have any visible hand shaking problems but getting this camera to stay on a stationary object that you are zoomed in on can be trying. I didn't notice any difference between the normal portrait mode or the smooth portrait mode. If you choose the vivid option be forewarned that your colors will become over saturated. I noticed that if I tried to take a macro picture of a flower while being 2'-5' from the subject that the camera would not focus on it. However if I was standing in my yard and trying to take a picture of a neighbor's flower in their yard (maybe 20') that macro was fine. (My A650 has absolutely no problems doing this). There is an option called "live" which lets you adjust three things in your picture and I found no advantage for this unless you would like to pretend that you are taking a picture at twilight when it is actually noon.I would not recommend this camera based on all my above findings. It is back to the drawing board for me.

Rarely am I dissapointed with my technology purchases due to the fact that I spend so much time researching before I will ever buy. I followed my standard practice in this case when our Elph finally died on us. I wanted a small, pocket-sized, point & shoot camera with a BIG zoom and decent megapixel (MP) resolution. At the time I purchased this camera (from Best Buy), it was one of the few digital point & shoots that had an optical zoom over 12x. The 20x zoom on this camera is what sold me the most. However, I still read reviews on this camera, but few talked about slow shutter and focus speed, or constant photo blurring, but instead most bad reviews said the camera "whined." Not sure what those persons are talking about (no whining on my SX260). Instead, here are my problems with this junker camera:- Errant auto focus (focuses not on what you're shooting at, but typically the thing behind what you're trying to shoot);- Slow shutter speed (yes, I know this is adjustable, but God help you if you try any of the auto settings);- Slow re-shoot time (even in rapid sequence or sports motion modes, you are going to experience a lag causing missed/blurred shots);- Light sensor inadequate (if you are shooting anywhere near sunrise/sunset where the light is "dim" or even indoors with flourescent lighting, you are going to get either blurry or yellow photos...or both. Doesn't matter how much you change the camera settings);- Flash (Terrible position on camera body, slow to function due to awful light sensor, has a yellow tint to it on most photos, and when it does work correctly, it still only creates "okay" photos vice "great");We took this camera to an indoor birthday party for our 7 year old son and ALL of the photos of that memorable day are HORRIBLE! Luckily for us, several of our friends took pictures of our Son and the party on their iPhones and cell phone cameras and they came out AWESOME!Recommend those who want good photos to avoid this camera at all costs...

I ordered this camera for a trip on the Trans-Siberian railway. I primarily own Canons, so unfortunately did not take the time to try out the camera before my trip as the menu is was similar to all my other Canons. The first red flag should have been the European charging plug (with an American adapter). One week into my trip, the camera simply stopped turning on. The light came on with a grinding noise, but the lens would not extend.I spent a full day frantically searching for a camera store in Mongolia and was forced to buy another camera. Okay, perhaps I just got a lemon. It happens. But here's where it gets bad: I contacted my seller (Ritz Camera) to ask for a replacement, but apparently I missed my window for returns. They suggested I use my 1 year warranty with Canon. So I contact Canon, and sent my camera to their factory repair in California. A week later the camera was returned with a note: "We are unable to repair your camera as this model was not intended for sale the US" (??!!!!???) I was floored. I bought the camera from Amazon (through a third party seller), new, under the assumption I would have a valid one year warranty. I contacted the seller multiple times, but to no avail. I continually received the "you are past your returnable date" party line.Over the next couple months, I continued to file claims, repeal their denials etc. Ultimately Amazon was able to get someone at Ritz Camera to agree to accept the return and I got my money back. It certainly wasn't easy, and took A LOT of my time on the phone and through emails.I have no idea if this was an issue with Amazon, the seller, or the camera in general. But it definitely was not worth the disappointment of the camera breaking in another country, having to spend the money (and time!) on vacation to buy another one and fight about it for months with the sellers because "This camera was not intended for sale in the US".

I have had this camera for over a year now and didn't feel I should write a review until I had used it enough to get a good sense of it. It takes good pictures and is fairly easy to use. I'm just a casual user who prefers to point and shoot, not interested in being a professional photographer. I tend to not use most of the special features of the camera, but at least they are there if I want them. I did accidentally discover the Movie Digest setting, which turned out to be pretty cool. I didn't realize the setting had gotten bumped to that and to my surprise when I went to play back the pictures I had taken at a concert, I had gotten a little movie with clips from various parts of the concert where I had taken a still picture. I knew the camera had some sort of feature like that but had never investigated it. A neat feature that I will use again.Other features that I like are the size of the screen, the 20x zoom and the wide angle lens.The only cons I can think of are 1) it has a proprietary battery, which I knew when I purchased it and debated about, but so far it hasn't been too much of a problem since I try to keep it charged knowing that I can't simply put in new disposable batteries in a pinch, and 2) the flash is a bit awkward, as it suddenly pops up when needed, right where your finger is. I've learned to expect it and have gotten used to it but it never fails to surprise someone else when I have them take a picture for me. It's kind of like when the Jack-In-The-Box pops up, lol. The placement could've been better for sure but it is not a deal breaker for me.

This camera came with everything except the software CD. But I don't really care since I never use that crap software they always stick with cameras anyway.Strangely, this camera also came with a continental European plug-type power cord for the charger. There is also a North American plug-type, so no worries. However, the North American cord is only an inch in length, which is really annoying because most outlets are not going to be right against the floor or table, which means you'll have to sit the camera on top of books or something to be able to charge it. The continental european cord is 5 inches long, which makes me think it's the original cord that belongs to this camera and they just stuck a really cheap and really short US cord in the box in addition.The camera itself is in mint condition and works great. It's been several years since I last updated my camera so this is exactly the kind of camera I wanted, minus the horribly short US power cord. I might try to find a longer power cord to buy for the charger. It's ridiculous to have such a short cord. It's going to be really inconvenient for traveling. Search for "figure 8 power cord" to find longer cords for just $3.Camera has literally zero built-in memory, so don't forget to buy a memory card! My old camera had 15MB built-in memory, which was enough for about 5 pictures. This camera won't save any pictures at all without a memory card inserted.The popup flash is kinda annoying since my finger is often grasping the camera in that location, but I suppose I'll get used to it eventually.I haven't played with the different settings yet, but just taking some pictures fresh out of the box, it's a decent camera with high-def pics. I'm not very impressed with its video quality, but hey I intend to use it as a camera, not a camcorder, so I don't care.

I bought this camera as a backup for my S100, which has worked very well. The main points I were interested in were a better zoom ( the S100 has only 5X), and the SX's ability to stitch photos into a panorama. The SX is slightly larger and heavier than my S100, but not much. The SX260 has very good zoom, and even at 80X it is clear, though at this magnitude it needs to be put on a tripod for stability. The bad point is the video. There is a constant low level noise, and when I use the zoom during filming, the audio records the clicking of the lens movement also. This is irritating enough for me not to want to use the video, unless I really have to. The bottom line is, if you want a pocketable Canon which is reasonably priced, has good ( noiseless) video, and are not concerned about zoom, I'd go for the S100. I would absolutely NOT buy the SX260 if you want good quality video. If you want a less expensive (I paid $188), camera for still pictures, with great zoom, that fits in your pocket, I'd look at the S260.

I have had the camera for over a year and have had no problems with it. I have taken over a thousand pictures with it in a variety of lighting conditions. I like the size and ease of use. Indoors with existing light leaves something to be desired as slow shutter speed causes subjects to be blurred quite often. Outdoors in daylight is fine. There is also a shutter lag with flash indoors so if you are taking pictures with fast moving kids or animals multiple shots are required to get a good picture. GPS is somewhat iffy. I have had it lock on quickly in cities with tall buildings and fail in open spaces where you would think it would have no problem. It normally does a very good job of exposure and focus. It is better than most phone cameras and not as good as medium priced SLRs. I like it because it fits easily in shirt pocket, has good zoom range, and pictures are sharp with good definition.The pop up flash is in an awkward position, but I normally try to do existing light most of the time. It is the camera I carry around withe me most of the time. I use DSLR for high quality and phone camera for grab shots when I don't have anything else on hand.

I've been purchasing Canon Powershots for probably 10 years. This is my favorite Powershot for vacations ever.2 primary reasons:1) The massive zoomIt allows me to take shots that were impossible with my earlier Canons point and shoots. This, plus the size is still reasonably small enough. Smaller would always be better.#1 would have been enough.(#1 plus all the other features the powershots have always given me, including image stabilization with the newer ones)2) The integrated GPS logging.What a kick this is.Looking at the visual logs with the integrated software helps us relive vacation and remember our path each day.I prefer the way Canon geotags vs how Google Locations does it via my Samsung Note 2 device with location services turned on.Other Pro's to me: Features that this camera does NOT havea) no touch screenI don't need a touch screen on my camera. I do NOT want the extra weight and extra battery drain that a touch screen creates.b) WiFiagain, don't need itdon't want the extra cost of the WiFi radio inside the camera. Taking out the card or plugging in the cable when I get back home is simple enough.I purchased 2 of these on Black Friday, November 2012, from Best Buy for $199, and then 6 extra NB-6L batteries from Amazon.These performed great during our European Christmas market vacation in 2012.As of August 2013, this is still best of class. From reading the Amazon reviews of the newer 280hs, that newer model still has a battery drain problem that Canon has not corrected. Even if they had, i did a side by side compare at B&H photo in New York City last week of the 260hs vs 280hs. The size of the 280 is almost the same. The only reason why I'd upgrade is if they shrunk the 260hs.However, the good news for new purchasers is maybe since a newer model came out, Canon and Best Buy will discount the 260hs further for Black Friday 2013.As of today's writing (August 2013) it's still $249 on Amazon.com.

I had used an ELPH 300HS for years and was always amazed at how great the pictures were considering how little I know about photography and how much I simply relied on the Auto settings. After I dropped it one day and gave it a concussion, my wife suggested that if I wanted to, I should spend a little more money this time and really get the camera I wanted. She didn't have to tell me twice ! I just assumed that since the ELPH 300 was so good, spending more on another Canon would be even better and the 20X zoom was 4 times that of the previous 300HS, how could I go wrong. Strange as it seems, I just didn't think the pictures were that good, or as good as the older less expensive 300HS. I took pictures of our yard and compared them to the same exact shots from before and I just didn't think they were as good. Ultimately I found the next generation of the original 300HS, the 330HS and bought it. I took the same shots of the yard and sure enough, they were much better than the SX260. Granted, these were taken in the Auto mode but since they all were, it was a decent comparison. The 300 & 330HS also had a slightly wider lens than the SX260. The 330HS while equipped with only half the zoom range of the SX260, still had twice the zoom range of the 300HS so I'm happy with it.

I like my new Canon PowerShot SX260 HS. I lost my previous PowerShot camera, and had read good reviews regarding this one. I paid almost twice as much for this as my previous camera, and was hoping for a big boost in improvement of the photos. I like the 20X optical zoom -- my old one only had 4X optical zoom -- and am delighted with the clarity of photos zoomed all the way to the 20X setting. However, I am disappointed in general photographs that I take, like landscapes and clouds, which seem to have a grainy, fuzzy appearance. Also, when I crop photos, I see much of this same grainy and fuzzy look. I have difficulty using aperture and speed settings on any camera -- I just seem to have a hard time determining the best settings for a good picture, and so rely a lot on the presets. This one is not preset for movement and landscape, and I am disappointed about that.All in all, it is a step up from my old camera, but unless I can figure out how to manually manage the aperture and speed, I will struggle to get some of my favorite types of shots.

Although I recently got my first smartphone (don't judge!) that takes excellent photos, I still prefer a good quality compact digital camera. We've owned Canon digital cameras since the days of 2 megapixels! This 12 megapixel camera is small but surprisingly rugged and well built. It turns on faster than anything I've ever owned. I don't mess with many of the presets and typically use the easy modes. I have to say I am impressed. Low-light is always an issue with these cameras, but this camera really handles it well. The key, of course, it keeping it as still as possible. There's very little grain in low-light photos with this camera, compared to our previous model. The GPS feature, when it works, is nice…especially when I import the photos into iPhoto on my Mac. It plots the photos on a world map for easy location of where photos were taken. But if the camera is only on for a brief time, it doesn't have time to get its location (especially indoors) and doesn't record that GPS data on the photo.I've recorded a little video on this camera and it was decent. I have a dedicated video camera for HD video recording of home movies, and this camera just can't compete with that. But in a pinch, it captures better than anything I've had in the past (still cameras).This was my first SX model. In the past, we've had the A series of Canon cameras, and owned a G2 years ago. I think this SX model comes really close to the G series in terms of start-up speed and rapid photo taking.

I bought this camera based on everyone else's reviews. Some people gave excellent technical information. So after all the reviews I settled on this camera because I wanted a great zoom lens for taking pictures of animals and scenery because I was traveling to Costa Rica. I also wanted a camera that helped with image stabilization. This camera fits my needs perfectly. I have pictures of monkeys, iguanas, sloths, crocodile, toucans, and many beach shots. I was able to get several really great pictures of the resplendent quetzal in Monteverde cloud forest. Our guide took a few shots throughout the telescope and with the naked eye and he was extremely impressed with my camera. He kept commenting what a great camera and asking if he could take more pictures. Since he could spot the birds so well I let him take a lot of pictures. Also the camera allows you to video with a record button so I have been able to capture surfers riding the waves. Family and friends are loving my pictures and videos. It makes me look like a professional.

I've had this camera for about 15 months now. For the last two months I have noticed that multiple fresh batteries will drain to zero if left in the camera after no usage in a short period of time. In my last test, the battery lasted 12 days, with the camera only being turned on and off about 5 times to check battery level. This is an unacceptable, as every Canon camera I've ever had, including this one until recently, has allowed for batteries to be left in for long periods of time. I contacted Canon support, and I was told to take the battery out when the camera is not in use. This defeats the purpose of a point and shoot household camera. I do understand that most devices will trickle drain over time, but this is trickling too much to be useful.I have always been a loyal and satisfied consumer of Canon camera and printer products and their product support. I was very satisfied with this camera until this point, but this is forcing me to try other brands of cameras in the future.

I love this camera, and now take it places that I would have brought my digital SLR. It is compact, although a little on the heavy side, but it's capabilities make it worth it for me.First, it has nearly all of the bells and whistles of larger digital cameras, including full manual control, which is a big plus for me as a serious photographer. The optical zoom goes out to 20X, allowing me to capture distant action that I would miss with lesser compact digitals. Of course, I don't get nearly the same quality as I do with my SLR-compatible lenses, but that outfit does't fit in my pocket, either. Teamed up with a light weight tripod you can still get some great shots and have much improved "snapshots" over the usual compact digitals.If you're an avid photographer who doesn't always want to carry your heavy (and conspicuous) full outfit with you all of the time, give this a look. You WILL have this with you all of the time.

This is a feature-rich camera.As others have written to get the best results you will want to spend some time with the manual. There are many, MANY options. If you have a Canon Digital SLR many of the controls will be familiarOne of the reasons I chose this camera is because I have a Canon Rebel SLR. And I had a venerable A-1 35mm SLR, "back in the day", so I thought that would help with my learning curve.I even have a Canon PowerShot D10. But I wanted a longer lens in something smaller than the Rebel.I have been very pleased with the SX260. Even when I shot in AUTO because I was in a hurry I often got satisfactory results for a point-and-shoot. They look fine on FaceBook but I would want to blow them up to 24x36.What are you trying to do?This is NOT a professional grade camera. So don't expect to shoot for poster-sized prints.And here's the BIGGEST tip, if you are using that 20x lens think seriously about a tripod. Camera shake is the biggest cause of disappointing photos.WARNING!!! -- DO NOT ORDER WITH 16 GB CARDOK, it COULD be my camera. Or it COULD be my card but they did not play well together. TWICE I lost all the photos on the card BEFORE I had backed them up. (Careless, not slow-learner.)There has been NO problem with smaller cards over the past several months.

I bought this particular camera because several people in my hiking group bought it and LOVE it, and I had an '05 Canon PowerShot S500 that I LOVED (but it konked out). I LIKE this SX260 but am not as enthusiastic as my friends. I am a "recreational" camera user -- not a serious photographer.My "issues" with this camera:-I thought I was going to love the 20x zoom, but I've discovered if you zoom to that capacity you really need to rest the camera on a very firm surface (not just hold it with both hands).-The other thing that bugs me (and was noted by other reviewers but I didn't pay enough attention to) is the placement of the flash. It is right where your fingers hold the camera when taking a picture. It pops up automatically so you really need to make a conscious effort to hold the camera in what, to me, is an unnatural way. The flash always seems to be in the way.-I also miss my viewfinder...why doesn't someone make a mid-priced camera with a viewfinder anymore?-It has a slow shutter speedPositives:- it takes nice pictures with good color- it is very portable- I bought 2 batteries because others had noted their short life, but I haven't found that to be a problem

The quality of the pictures is what I really like. It is great to have the 20x zoom, it allows for real close ups. I take many flower pictures of my garden and often of the breakfast I make. I own a bed & breakfast and the pictures are for my website, facebook and other venues. The brilliance of the pictures matters. I used to have another cannon Powershot years ago, that unfortunately fell in the water, while we went snorkeling and did not recover from that. In between I had a Sony Cybershot and I did not like it. The quality of the pictures was not good. There were too many automatic settings that the user could not control. Especially the function of the flash was annoying, because, oftentimes, when I would have liked it to come on, it did not.With the Cannon the flash can be controlled manually and even in its automatic settings it comes on easily. The battery is easy to re-charge and the charge holds for a long time. It would be great to have the rechargeable battery built write into the camera, so a separate charging station was not necessary.
