I'm a huge Canon fan. I'm a professional photographer and my pro gear is Canon. I've owned other Canon point and shoot cameras before this one. I purchased this one because it had manual options (because I'm a control freak) and a phenomenal zoom. But like others have mentioned in the reviews, the location of the flash is awful. Not only that, but I just don't feel like the quality of the photographs from this camera are on par with what you'd expect from a Canon. In addition, and I'm not sure if I have a dud of a camera or if this is a common issue, but I have a hard time getting it to turn on and off, AND when I turn it off, it won't let me turn it back on again for like 30 seconds. I can't really pinpoint all the things I don't like about it, it's just that I have an overall disappointment in this model. And I hate to say that, and I know that probably doesn't help you very much, but I can say that if I had it to do over, I would not purchase this camera. I'd buy a Canon PowerShot, but just not this one.

For a small sensor camera, this is quite good. Lens extends out to 20x zoom (from 4.5 to 90mm), which makes it useful for bird-watchers who cannot carry a DSLR with a large and heavy telephoto. Wish it were a bit more wide-angle, but that would introduce distortion. Obviously, does not have the ability to have the defocused background or the sharpness/dynamic range that one would expect from a m4/3 or APS-C DSLR, but this a lot more portable. There is minimal chromatic aberration (purple fringing etc) but not objectionable. While compact, this is not as small and light as some other compact cameras, but it will fit in a large pocket. Battery life is quite good, even with flash. The use of Av, Tv, Manual modes makes this quite versatile. You can also overlay a grid over the LCD to line up the horizon and help with composition. The manual is quite extensive, and takes a while to read - it is unlikely that one would use more than a tenth of the available features. In summary, this would make a good compact camera to carry along with your DSLR, or if you are not planning to go on a trip focused on photography but need a camera to stick in your jacket pocket just in case.

This camera was a birthday gift for my wife. She takes literally hundreds of pics with her phone and for quite some time has wanted something better (but with the small factor that her phone gives). Upon getting it, she immediately was able to understand the basic functions (this camera has more than the average person uses) charge it up and start snapping photos. She has taken pictures of the moon, of a yearling hawk in our yard (we live on a small farm) and a million pictures of our twin two year old girls. The zoom is sweet, it really gets you there. The small compact size (about the thickness of 2 cell phones in their cases) fits nicely in her purse (or pocket). Probably a little thick to say it fits easily in your front jeans pocket.....but it could and it has.Over all, we love the camera. I purchased the 32GB card for taking video and it works excellent as well. No complaints.... read the manual and you can do all sorts of fun stuff like the fish eye lens (we had lots of fun close up shots looking funny).Well done Canon.....well done! :)

I am an avid point-and-click photographer, I love love love documenting the human experience but have yet to take a lesson or get serious about photography (meaning I am too broke to afford an SLR and don't want to tote it around anyway). I wanted an inexpensive camera I can fit in my pocket to capture all the fun we have roaming around the great outdoors of Montana. This camera meets all my needs and takes a much faster and slightly better quality image than my previous Canon, the SD790 IS (which I have basically destroyed by throwing it in the bottom of my purse or backpack with no protection. The casing eventually starts to come apart, who knew!?). I LOVE the fun photo options and color, light, and shutter speed variables it allows you to change. I still wish I could take panoramas without having to stitch them together in a program, but I had that complaint with my old Canon too. It is a little awkward getting used to the flash placement but I love that the flash doesn't overpower the pictures and you have the option to set how strong the flash strength is. A week into the purchase and I am still learning all the functions, there are a lot of neat things like smooth skin pictures, low light pictures, vivid color, etc... I found out in my messing around that it can take a few seconds of movie with each picture and make a highlight reel "movie" of your experience with audio... especially hilarious when you didn't know you were recording. Seems like a quality camera and I have no regrets with my purchase. I bought a little cheap case and hopefully manage to be more careful with this one than the last one :)

I can't believe how good the pictures are from this camera. Two features in particular stand out. First, the zoom is amazing, and far more powerful than I would ever have expected, with complete clarity. Secondly, there is a setting called "Discreet", and using this setting I was able to take fantastic photos in places like cathedrals, The Vatican, weddings - any place where a flash or any noise would have been a disruption. And the photos look almost as good as they would have with a flash. I use the automatic setting most often, and get fantastic results, but the camera offers many different options for those who want to play around with the settings. Best camera for my use, without a doubt. Small enough to take anywhere, yet powerful enough to give me professional quality photos. I love it.

Canon owes me - I have 4 friends that have bought this unit over the past 6 months after trying mine. The image stabilization and low light is phenomenal. The color saturation and light balance is very good. And, after a safari to Africa with friends who had 25 lbs of camera and lenses, guess whose shots everyone wants? That's right - the ~$200 camera out performed them all with closer views thanks to the 20 to 1 zoom (I will buy their 30 to 1 when it comes out), clearer images due to image stabilization and lens quality, and better colors due to the big chip and Canon software. Did I mention that it weighs only a half a pound and fits in the pocket of my pants and coats? And of course, I always had it with me cause it is so easy to have along. We have all the unexpected shots as well!! I can have it out of my pocket (not in the backpack and have to choose a lens), zoomed and focused in a few seconds while the big camera guys are still getting their bag down! All my friends feel the same about theirs - a real winner.

I was a little concerned ordering this camera as some were quite negative about it. My experience has been very good. The GPS works flawlessly and bringing in the photos to Aperture on my iMac, the placement of the photos on the map is perfect. I haven't yet tried the GPS log but will soon. The optical zoom range (20-1 with IS) is nothing short of spectacular and the pictures when blown up remain as sharp as to be expected with a 12 megapixel camera. Some have complained about the placement of the popup flash but while it is not optimal, it is easy to get used to. Others have complained about the battery life but this is quite manageable, especially if you carry a few extra batteries (which are quite inexpensive). I've noticed battery life issues only when having GPS logging on and this is to be expected as you are running the GPS in the camera even when it is otherwise off. If you have a problem with that, just turn off the GPS logging.The controls are very simple, once you understand them. It took me a while (I had to look at the documentation -- imagine that) to figure out that the little ring around the function set has a purpose as a wheel. One feature that I especially love is the dedicated movie button. I have missed too many movie opportunities in the past while twisting a dial on other cameras to get to the movie function, often not quite getting to that function. And also the problems of then forgetting I'm in movie mode when I try to shoot photos again.One thing that is important to know is that this is not the lightest of cameras. It's nowhere near as heavy or bulky as a DLSR but it is a bit larger and noticeably heavier that a typical point and shoot. But, then there is more in there -- the GPS and the very long optical zoom -- a small price for those features.

In general I am happy with this camera. I purchased it for a mostly business trip to Germany. I also purchased a spare battery. During the one week I was in Germany I had to recharge each battery once and I didn't take that many pictures. Just recently (about 3 weeks after I got back from Germany) some of my flowers were in bloom so I grabbed the camera and both batteries were dead. Luckily, my Nikon DSLR that I haven't touched in months still had plenty of battery life. So, if you are thinking you can just grab the camera and go, forget it. This is not the camera for you. You will have to plan ahead and make sure you charge a battery the night before you need the camera.

The SX260 HS is among the best cameras I have had the pleasure to use. I am a pretty good (old) amateur photographer. After many years of 35mm shooting, I plunged into the digital. Like most old timers I fell in love with the ease of use and editing that came along with the digital cameras.The Canon SX260 is simple to use especially in Auto mode. The camera's large view screen streams suggested formats in the auto mode that enable last second mode changes. This is neat in that one can adjust to light changes or subject movement.I've only had the camera now about a month, so I am still experimenting with all the possibilities'

We bought this for our European trip and found it to be a great little camera. It has lots of useful features, yet the programs yield excellent pictures if you don't have the time or willingness to fiddle around. It is nicely compact and fits easily into the pocket. We got a lot of photos from each charge, but I'd always recommend a spare battery or two for particularly heavy days. I've even taken it to airshows for static shots when I don't wish to change lenses on my big DSLR.

I have been looking at numerous cameras to take pictures of my kids and this got favorable reviews, so I gave it a shot.I wanted a camera that would take pictures in the house and also while my kids were moving around, since most kids don't sit very still.Pictures that were taken with movement were often blurry.Low light pictures were okay. Some came out well but many were blurry if there was movement.It did not take rapid fire shots very well, it took a couple seconds between pictures (and I purchased a brand new memory card thinking it would fix the problem and it didn't).Turning on the camera took more than 3 seconds, so if your child was doing something picture worthy, it was done by the time the camera was ready to take the picture.I'm not sure why this camera received rave reviews. My Iphone takes better pictures, but I wanted a camera with a lot of memory and a better zoom.

To date, I have only shot about 125 times with the camera but I am very pleased so far with the quality of the photos and the almost overwhelming flexibility of this small, but mighty point-n-shoot. I plan to learn to use all of the camera's many features on a 3 week trip this summer so might amend this review in a few months.All in all, I feel it's a great small camera at a good price.CONS OR REASONS WHY I DO NOT GIVE IT 5 STARS:As many reviewers have noted, inexplicably, it does not come with a memory card, which I liken to buying a new car but having to pay extra for tires. At least Canon could include a 1 GB SD Card to get a photographer started.Battery Life: As stated in the Getting Started guide, the expected number of shots per fully charged battery is 230 or 70 minutes of continuous shooting time. So far, I have not barely reached half of those expected standards before the battery is discharged. Obviously, using the flash or zoom, both of which I do extensively, greatly decreases the battery's life.Lack of a Printed Manual: Yes, I am old school and one can certainly use this camera without reading the manual but I firmly believe that purchasers deserve to receive a printed manual, not just a CD to either read on-screen, or to print out with expensive ink on a personal printer. Note that I am very eco-conscious also and religiously reduce, reuse, re-purpose and recycle and do not print any more than I have to...Bottom line, I paid $20 for a printed manual which i believe is the manufacturer's responsibility to furnish me. Canon could send a manual to everyone who bothers to send in the warranty card as an incentive.R.R. I had finally had it with my Kodak easyshare that I just purchased last year. It was clumsy to handle and I was forever recharging batteries. It used 4 AA rechargeable batteries and my new Canon Super Shot uses a lithium battery. The AA batteries took 11 1/2 hours to charge! The lithium battery takes a little less than 1 1/2 hour!!!!! That was the main reason that I purchased this camera. The other reason was that the comments for the Canon Super Shot were overwhelmingly positive and just what I was looking for in quality and price. I love it!!

Here's the good news: the camera is super easy to use, fits easily in a pocket and takes sharp, clear pictures. Bad news: my software disc that comes with the camera was completely blank! This is a fun little camera for taking snapshots and the zoom is very handy at places like the zoo or while travelling. But I was annoyed by the inclusion of a blank DVD, that should have included software and an instruction PDF. So, only three stars.

love this camera!! i've had the digital Elph series camera before, and this was a great upgrade from my older model. the optical zoom works so well that i was able to get printable face shots of my sister at her graduation. she was sitting on the stadium field, and i was at almost the top row of the bleachers in a standard sized football stadium. very impressive clarity. has enough features for an intermediate photographer to be useful, and menus are easy to figure out. i feel like i still have some features i have yet to intellectually understand or utilize, but works great for what i typically use it for (family photos, and close ups of still life - at a distance of 2 feet). and im glad i still have some room for my photography skill growth with the options the camera offers. the owners manual comes in digital form - so if you like to read on paper you'll have to print it out, but thats a small minus to an overall excellent product. i would buy this camera again.

I have had two previous Canon PowerShot Elph cameras, and ordered this one because I finally dropped my 100HS too many times after 7 years and broke the screen on the back. (NOTE: It's still working in terms of taking pics, but I can't see what I'm shooting!) After reading about a lot of the new ones with touch screens - something I did not want - I decided to try the SX 260 HS 12.1 MP, and it is terrific. It's still small enough and light enough, but has a 20x optical zoom which is nothing short of fantastic. I've seen others complain that it is blurry, but that is if you go past the 20x optical into the digital zoom, which is of course going to blur. You can clearly see the limits of the 20x optical zoom if you look at the bar indicating the zoom strength being used. One thing I would say is the picture shows the lens with no cover, and mine has the same type of protective onion-layered type of cover that has been on my other PowerShot Elphs by Canon. No worries. It is definitely a great buy and another great camera by Canon. p.s. I still love my little 100HS so much I ordered another one just because. For the money these can't be beat. I get compliments all the time on my photos by people using much more expensive and sophisticated cameras. Oh yeah, and this one - as well as my other PowerShot Elphs - shoots great video with great sound! I'm a believer and a loyal customer.

I have owned serveral Canon cameras and I must say, this is not my favorite! The battery life is short and turning it on is not just a push of the button. It is very annoying to have to press the "on" button two or three times. Also, when on auto focus, some photos still come out fuzzy. I dont reccommend this model of Canon.

I have an older Nikon Coolpix, the quality is ok but I wanted a newer digital camera that would do nice video.Something that was user freindly that gave me a choice of getting decent video of the grandkids without having to buy a camcorder.I get great pictures without to much hassle and picture quality is very good.Sure this camera has its blurry pix or shakey video but what camera doesnt, allot of this is sometimes user error and this camera has plenty of techy settings to address all sorts of scernario's. This is'nt your highend camera but it's affordable and still gives quality pictures and video.This camera makes it simple to view and retrieve video and pictures. Right after I video my granddaughter I can hook it to the TV using a mini HDMI to HDMI and wala we can watch them seconds after shooting. Being at a family function and plugging this in looking at pictures and video with everyone is a snap!If I need to extract pix or video I just pop out the (not included) SD card and slide it into the laptop, open the folder without any software and organize them. There is also software that comes with the camera but I really havnt used it yet.I'm no camera expert, but all the controls are user freindly, the interface on-screen is easy to go through and the modes for shooting are worthey of some nice pictures.I have no problem with the flash location on top and the zoom is very nice and clear.Note: There is no sound during video playback from the camera unless I'm missing something in a menu setting.This digital camera is a good choice with all the bells and whistles for the camera techy also.If your looking for a camera case thats compact and protects your purchase you might consider Case Logic DCB-302 Compact Case for Camera - Black

I basically chose this camera because am partial towards canon products. Now I like them small, light and point and shoot which is practical for travelling. If I am not running out of time to study its other features, I will study its manual mode. I also chose to buy this because of its 25mm wide angle lens and its its high telephoto capacity. On top of that it is capable of making 30 minute movies. I noted that I can also put together different still pictures to make a video. It is easy to operate, at least the auto smart mode because I have had a canon powershot before. I may have to review my photography lessons though on exposure, etc to be able to do better on how to operate the manual mode. The color gray is perfect too to my taste. I noted too the microphone in making a movie to catch the sounds. I love my new camera and it takes sharp pictures. Can't wait to use it at the cruise although tonight we will have picture-taking at my bf's house. I only got to spend a few hours to tinker with the camera and get myself familiarized with it relatively.

I have owned many brands of point-and-shoot cameras and I think this one is probably my favorite so far as far as picture quality and ease of use. You can't beat the 20x zoom of this camera that fits easily into the back pocket of your jeans. I have a Canon DSLR as well, and the quality of photos from this little point-and-shoot are very comparable to the DSLR.

I thoroughly enjoy using this little camera. I have two larger bridge cameras that I use when I know that I'm going out to photograph specific things. I use this camera when I'm going for casual walks. I do a lot of walking on the Gettysburg battlefield for exercise. I enjoy using this camera when I am walking because of the size of the camera. The zoom is fantastic for such a small camera. I primarly use the manual exposure feature and am able to get some really quality photos using this method, from close up of wildflowers to zoom photos of birds that I see on the battlefield.I have purchased two spare batteries for this camera. I have found that the low battery indicator doesn't accurately show a progression from fully charged to almost discharged. With the spare batteries I am never out of power.The only con that I see is that the rotating ring that is used to change ISO or shutter speed is rather sensative and I find myself constanly accessing other features that I am not intending to change or use. A light touch is required when rotating this ring. I have been using this camera for over a month now and have gotten some really quality photos. The images are crisp and rich in color. I don't use the auto settings because often the resulting images tend to be a little over exposed. This I find is normal though with the auto setting on most cameras. I haven't used the video feature at all since I have a high definition camcorder.I am thoroughly satisfied with this camera and find that it meets my needs as an avid amateur photographer. I am very particular about the quality of the images that I capture. This camera meets all of my expectations.

Yes, this is a decent camera, and yes the flash is in a terrible location (mine broke after a few months because it would always try to raise when my finger was in that spot), but it's important to know that for all its benefits, this camera (like other Canons) does NOT have an exposure button you can use. You can take manual control (in which you set aperture and shutter speed independently--and I do that on an unfortunately regular basis because of the lack of an exposure control), but it would be really, really nice to have.Mine broke today after about a year of owning it, and it looks like this is still by-far the best rated travel zoom camera out there. But I just can't make myself buy another one. I'm happy to see it gone, and thought I'd share in case anyone else out there likes tweaking exposure on their pictures a bit without jumping all the way into "manual" mode.

Purchased this back on Apr 1 for 2 week trip to New Zealand & Australia. I currently own a Minolta Maxxum 5D DSLR 6.1 MP with all the lens to go with it, but as we were traveling light I wanted to cut down on the 20-30 lbs. of camera gear I normally travel with. As my longest lens is a 75-300 mm lens (APS-C equivalent 112-450 MM), I wanted a replacement camera with at least that long of a focal length. I also wanted something that could replace my JVC camcorder as well. As my wife already owned a Canon PowerShot SD850is I was familiar with their build and quality. I found the camera easy to use and enjoyed not having to be changing lens every time I wanted to zoom in or out on a subject. I am not a professional photographer so can not qualitatively report on the quality of my pictures, but I feel they are as good as any I have taken with my Maxxum 5D or previously to that the Minolta 35 mm SLR I still own. The video was extremely good as well. The only complaint I have is the placement of the flash. It is on top of the camera where my left hand index finger would sit, thus would hit my finger and not extract fully every time I needed the flash. It would also be nice if the flash could stay on while video taping in low light.If you are looking for a moderately priced camera with a long focal length and video recording capabilities then this can work for you.

Great little camera! I did a lot of research before purchasing and I had the previous model to this one and it still works! This one has a better zoom and better lens quality. It's still a point and shoot but it's a good all around camera that's light and easy to use. The GPS feature is nice too!

I was initially so excited to get this camera and was impressed with the pictures taken with this camera.On a recent vacation, I noticed the lens covers did not automatically completely open and if I wasn't careful I'd get a curtains appearance to my pictures. This problem did not occur every time. But WORSE, I discovered too late that the automatic lens covers DID NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY (again sporadically) and the lens is NOW SCRATCHED!!! In the 30+ years of camera ownership I have never scratched a lens!!!I fault Canon on this design flaw and the workmanship (or lack thereof) that will either result in an expensive repair or the purchase of a completely different camera (AND NOT A CANON)

I would have given this camera 5 stars, but the audio was really quite bad - especially in a loud environment like a concert or very crowded tourist area. Way WAY worse than my old Sony Cybershot (which I got 4 years ago). It's even worse that my phone's audio recording. BUT the picture quality has been AMAZING and the 1080p video recording looks SO great and crisp.

Took pics over the holidays and have some questions/ concerns - *1) bad flash location/ poor camera design feature: because of the camera's narrow profile, it is hard to hold the camera with the left hand when the flash pops up in the upper left hand corner of this camera, contributes to undesireable camera shaking 2) frequently the message "busy" came up the view finder window- what is this about? 3) disappointed with short lithium battery life, took inside pics for maybe 2 hrs tops before I had to replace with backup battery *4) lack of clear directions on how to delete pics, or too many steps to take, not a user friendly feature > have any suggestions? plan to watch CD for additional tipsThanks. Would appreciate constructive feedback to enhance my overall satisfaction with my recent purchase of this camera.

I was debating between this model and the SX280 and this one had better reviews, so I opted for the SX260. I really hated it, so after a couple of days I sent it back. First of all, the flash IS totally in the wrong place. It kept popping up under my finger. Secondly, the battery power was AWFUL. And thirdly, there are barely any preset settings, like the sports setting that enables you to capture movement. When something is moving, I don't have time to mess around with manual controls and on the regular automatic setting I kept getting blurry shots. I am fan of Canon cameras (loved the G series and I use the T2i Rebel for regular shooting), but this was a big disappointment.

I'm very happy with my XS 260, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be better.PROS:1. I like the 20x optical zoom. When you're travelling, it's surprising how much being able to zoom in can help.2. The camera turns on quite quickly. Much faster than my previous Sony. The 1.5 second delay is about how long it takes you to raise it up to frame the shot. Very good.3. I haven't used it yet, but single-button video recording is going to come in VERY handy. Nothing worse than fumbling instead of recording.4. There seem to be a LOT of manual modes. They are of somewhat limited use when the total F-stop range is quite small.CONS:1. The pop-up flash pops up right under your left hand, with no real warning. And it doesn't pop down when you no longer need it. It just stays in the way.2. The GPS, when set to "always on" doesn't always seem to pick up a location. Mine never found a GPS signal after 2 hours wandering around Detroit airport. And after about 2 days of GPS tracking, the newly charged new battery was dead.3. Scene selection is still a royal pain. It's hard to find the selections, hard to choose one, and hard to know what will happen when you do. The descriptions are only vaguely related to what you really want. More work required here.4. The "spinner" wheel around the OK button is a little too small and flat for my thick fingers. It's VERY hard to rotate the wheel without pressing one of the five buttons around and inside of it. At least for me. I'm starting to think a touch-screen would be better.

The quality of the pictures taken with this camera is very good, my only complaint is about the flash: first, it is located right where you place your finger when holding the camera, so as many other users have complained, it often prevents the flash from coming out, and when this happens you have turn off the camera and then back on to "reset" it, also, the flash comes often when is not needed, even with the flash set to be "off". Also, for a camera like this, it lacks of an easy way to do panoramic photos (even an iPhone camera can easily do that), which is quite disappointing. However, altogether, is a solid camera and it takes good pictures, even when zooming in. I will continue to purchase Canon cameras.

For a pocket camera these are spectacular. I have owned many camera systems. But who wants to carry around pro camera day to day!!!?? Not me, so I was missing a million shots. When I went to Europe, I brought 2!!! Had them mounted on both hips. I took 4700 shots. 99% were good to go ( no focus or exposure issues ). I did huge panoramas and stitched them together later. FAN TASTIC!! Oh... If I had dropped one in the water, I wouldn't have committed suicide. Glad I left my pro camera home. It is a point and shoot, but a great one. Point and shoots have their limitations, I just worked around them. If you are really into photography, upload the CHDK to push this thing far beyond the limits.I AM PLEASED

My very old Canon still takes great pictures but it is so slow and inconvenient. I read the reviews and recommendations here and ordered four different models before I decided to choose the PowerShot SX260. The 280 was great but has battery problems and I'm not technical enough to deal with downloaded fixes. I had a little trouble downloading the software when my camera was connected to the download but when I detached it the download went forward and the computer reads my camera so it's great. The pictures are beautiful. I use auto most of the time, but the capabilities of the 260 are varied so I'm sure I'll be using it for experimenting and learning. This is a 5-star camera.

As a non techie I love the ease of use as well as the versitility provided. Only complaint is the need to always carrry a second fully charge battery as it uses them up quickly.

Very unhappy with it. Bought it less than a year ago to replace the previous Cannon I had. I was happy with my previous one and bought this one because I wanted better pictures in lowlight and a better zoom.Poor design: the flash comes up right where everyone tries to hold the camera. So everyone who tries to take a photo with the camera nearly drops it when the flash tries to come up under their fingers. I'm actually surprised the flash hasn't broken yet.A few months after purchasing the battery does not hold power well. My last Cannon camera barely needed charging except at the end of a picture heavy day. This one runs out of battery life even after only used a few times.Also just recently it's stopped downloading pictures to my lap top. The camera says there's a "communication error".I am really annoyed. I should ahve stuck with my last Cannon.

Pros:This is a nice point-and-shoot. It has the potential to take amazing photos. The clarity can be excellent at times, and the color pops. I like that it has manual/aperture/shutter priority options. It allows for more creativity. I'm still working on discovering every nook and cranny in the settings but there seems to be a wide variety. I had fun playing around with the slow motion video setting. I like that the camera came with a cord to hook up to the computer via USB. That is extremely helpful and it works fast. The LCD screen is nice and large and it's very bright (of course you can change how bright you want it). My Cybershot memory stick Pro duo doesn't fit into the Canon. However, if you have a micro-sd card with an adapter, it fits right into the Canon and works perfectly. I'm glad I discovered that because I didn't want to go out and buy another memory card. I spent too much money as it is.Cons:All of these cons are superficial. Everything is in perfect condition, these are just my observations and preferences.The flash is kind of annoying at times. I'm used to having my finger where it pops up. I also find that the autofocus is a bit slow. Again, I'm still figuring things out, but it seems that it doesn't always focus on what you want it to. I've handed the camera over to friends to take a photo and sometimes it will just come out blurry. This camera is also heavy. I compared it to my Sony Cybershot and the Canon is probably about 1.5x heavier. Not a great addition to my already heavy hand-bag. The power button is in a weird spot. It should be on the opposite side of the shutter button. I've had friends try to take a picture and shut the camera off. It's just an odd spot for the power button. The camera beeps and noises are quite annoying, so I just shut them off.Overall, I'd say this is a great camera. With a few tweaks here and there, it would be an amazing camera.

Everything looks great except my camera came with a power cord for the charger that belongs in the UK. I'm in CO and it is doing me no good here. I have contacted the seller @ support@electronicsbasket.com, but haven't heard anything yet. I'll change my review if I hear from them. I will wait a couple more days and then return the thing. Trying to avoid that if I could just have the proper cord sent to me.

Compact and good camera. I haven't used it a whole lot to form an opinion but I like what I see from a point and shoot camera. I still don't know how to activate the GPS which I thought it would be a great tool. I looked at the instruction manual but couldn't find it. again, If someone out there knows how to activate and deactivate the GPS tool, let me know. Also, I couldn't find an option to set the time by am or pm all I got for time was hour 20.00 instead of 8:00 PM etc..; so military time only. I may be not be doing something right!

I broke my Nikon D60 DSLR and then I broke my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX50 16.2 MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom and 2.7-inch LCD (Black) (2012 Model) and so I set out to find the best of both worlds in one camera. After reading all the raving reviews, viewing countless sample photos, and researching the competing cameras, I went to Best Buy and purchased the SX260.I'm disappointed but I want to love this camera really bad because it has everything I was looking for, or so I thought: great optical zoom, great image quality and stunning colors, black and white shooting mode, compact point-and-shoot style.So why am I disappointed? Because of the image quality. Seriously I'm feeling a bit alone in my opinion after reading through the other reviews to see if I'm loosing my mind but to me the image quality is well below standard. Low light, bright light, optimal light, any setting, flash or no-flash, the images seem to be blurry. Not blurry like going without your glasses blurry but not sharp, crisp. For example a shot with my Sony with 5X zoom was so clear I could zoom in and crop and still keep amazing detail. When I took it to New York City I took some amazing shots at night from the Empire State Building without a tripod, just resting it on the concrete wall. With the Canon, night time shots of the city are near impossible and forget zooming in on any shot regardless of the lighting. Once you zoom in you'll see distortion, smoothing, dull images.In summary, this Canon is well built, easy to use and user friendly. Loaded with features and shooting modes. The 80X digital zoom is very impressive and the built in image stabilization works surprisingly well. The image quality is left to the eye of the beholder and to me it significantly lacks, especially for the price of this camera. Video quality is decent to great depending on lighting but expect to get a lot of inner mechanical noise feedback. I think I am going to sacrifice the optical zoom and find another camera.

Not the most user-friendly camera we have owned (and we have owned about 7 or 8 in the past few years), but it does the trick. If you are used to using two hands to hold the camera...which I think most people are, this camera gets a little annoying because if you have your left hand in the upper right corner and you want to use the flash it won't come up. So you have to turn the camera all the way off and then turn it on again to have it re-boot. That gets a little annoying. It's not a bad camera, but for the price I was expecting something a little easier to use.

We have taken some very nice pics of our kids outdoors, but the indoor pics have disappointed us. I have an old Canon 4MP camera that's about six years old that's better indoors. The flash photos are slow, in my opinion, and the photos did not look like they came from the same camera as the pics we took of our kids playing in the backyard. I'm no camera buff and have not owned an SLR since the film days, so I don't pretend to be an expert. Just want to share my experiences as someone who bought this for an all-around-use camera. It's too heavy to put in a pocket or even for long hikes, so really I wish I had just spent some more money and bought one of the higher-end cameras. If I am not using it as a compact camera anyway, something a bit larger and more ergonomic would have been better. Plus - and this is my fault - I should have gone by Target or somewhere and felt the camera - a mistake I won't make again. I bought this because it was rated highly on Amazon and by a consumer magazine, but overall think I should have spent the extra $100 and moved up. I would suggest putting any camera in your hands before you buy it - lesson learned.If you want a camera with a nice zoom to take outdoor pics of your kids, this is a good one, but for birthday parties and other indoor uses, based on my personal experience here my suggestion is look elsewhere, as the speed and quality of the flash photos left us disappointed. We are keeping this, though, because for $200 it is still a good deal based on the zoom/outdoor capabilities - just not the all-around camera we were looking for.

I was looking for a pocketable, carryable camera with a decent zoom for the purpose of documenting bird sightings while hiking. I cannot carry a large, heavy SLR with multiple lenses on long hikes into hilly terrain (been there and done that). I wasn't expecting much from a 20X hand-held point-and-shoot, and was very pleasantly surprised to discover that even in rather difficult conditions (high wind, lousy lighting) I've gotten some surprisingly good pictures from substantial distances. They have all been adequate to identify the bird and document that we saw it. Of course I occasionally get blurred shots, but I take enough so I can just dump those.The video has also been more than adequate to record the antics of my grandchildren! I'm still experimenting with it, and will probably submit an addendum to this review somewhere down the road as I have a chance to play around with the settings.The flash sometimes "washes out" the picture, but I suspect there are ways I can compensate for that. I haven't had a chance to read the entire manual, but I was able to use the camera adequately right out of the box. The new 16 GB SanDisk Extreme card has been a great comfort! I love the camera. I believe my old Elph 1200 did a somewhat better job of balancing the exposure, but the zoom is more important to me. I can edit later. I'm now carrying it everywhere, since I have found it to be very versatile.

I used this camera for a long weekend, and so far, so good. After an extensive search, I bought it based on previous, detailed reviews, which were very helpful. I previously owned a less expensive Canon which served me well for years, so I had no trouble figuring out the new camera's settings. I didn't particularly want a camera this powerful and with so many features, but it was highly rated for great photo images, and that was #1 with me.I'm enjoying the 20x zoom more than I anticipated -- very nice. I tested the video, and it worked fine for my occasional use. I was a little concerned about the placement of the pop-up flash, but I found that this camera takes great pictures in low light, so I don't expect to use the flash that often. (I turned the auto-flash off until needed. I can train myself to hold the camera as shown in the owner's guide to avoid blocking the pop-up. No big deal for me.)The camera size is a bit longer but thinner than my previous one. It still fits in my pocket, which was a must-have feature for me. I miss the viewfinder. I was taking one picture in bright sunshine, and I could not see if I had the shot I wanted or not. Oh well . . . it appears none of the cameras in this class has the viewfinder.I bought two SanDisk Extreme 32 GB SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Flash Memory Card 45MB/s SDSDX-032G-AFFP, as recommended. They worked great! I'm not sure if this camera would work as well with a lesser card. Be sure to order the card in the RETAIL (original) packaging, rather than in the 'Frustration Free' packaging. Per other reviews, there appears to be a problem with counterfeit cards if you don't get it in the original, hard plastic wrapping. I ordered two of the RETAIL cards, and my order came with only one card. That's the first time an Amazon order hasn't included everything I ordered (which seemed a little suspicious), but Amazon quickly sent me another one.

I have been using Canon point and shoot cameras for about 10 years and I have always been very satisfied. This is a great camera with a lot of features in a small package. I flip around the settings all the time and since the software is relatively the same from camera to camera and generation to generation, the learning curve is small.A few things to the Canon folks if they read these reviews. The program settings have changed drastically over the past 3 generations of the SX lines. They have implemented dedicated modes for things that I don't believe most folks would ever use. I believe that many of these modes should be buried somewhere else. Things like Movie Digest, Super Vivid, and Movie Mode should be available in the SCN mode. And they removed things like Portrait, Landscape, Kids & Pets which I used frequently.I would love to see Canon put a dedicated Low Light mode on the dial instead of Movie Digest or Super Vivid. I find myself requiring the SCN/Low Light option very often at my kids' school functions where I am too far for the flash to be effective, but not enough ambient light to use Auto or other setting. For my wife, I need to talk her through getting the SCN/Low Light option set.Overall the camera is a great option for both pictures and video. The HD video that I get is fantastic and I couldn't be happier. It's a little bigger than the other point & shoots, but that's expected with a 20x zoom (compared to a smaller 5x zoom). It's great for recording my kids' events from a distance.

Bought this camera after my Kodak z612 started acting up; it was more than 5 yrs old. Was really disappointed that Kodak was done with cameras as I loved it. As a replacement I first bought a Nikon L810 because it was similar style to my Kodak but had an even bigger zoom and had pretty good reviews. It was either defective or just a terrible camera because nothing would focus and there was blur in almost every picture.Amazon was great about returning it but I still had to find a new camera. I went to Best Buy so I could actually try some out and see them first hand. This one was on sale for $199 and everyone was checking it out. I was a little hesitant because of the smaller size than my Kodak but as soon as I picked it up I was impressed. The zoom is much larger than my Kodak even with the smaller size. The options are great and so many to choose from. The video just requires a quick click of a button, no switching settings like my Kodak. No blur and good, easy focus. I am now loving the smaller size since it is much easier to tote around but still has an amazing 20x zoom! Most smaller cameras only have a 5x zoom. The image stabilization works great. That was another concern about getting a smaller camera, with less to hold onto I was worried that there would be too much shaking especially with the full zoom. Amazingly, this has not been a problem. I took pics of my kids at the bottom of the sledding hill, zoomed further than the optical zoom and they turned out crisp and clear. So did the video. Speaking of the video, other reviewers mentioned a high pitch noise. I only noticed any kind of background noise while zooming in and out and it wasn't that loud. That seems to be the biggest and almost only complaint about this camera and I am soooo happy I didn't let it get in the way of deciding on this camera! Love it!

I bought this for my girlfriend for christmas. And ever since she got it, shes loved it. Im more of a Nikon fan, but she had a Canon before this one so I stuck with what she liked. Her last one was a very small pocket sized one (I dont know the model, i believe a powershot as well), so she first didnt like the slightly bigger size. I always noticed she was never satisfied with photos are longer distances, so I justified the bigger size with getting a longer zoom. Her last camera only did 5x optical zoom, and she hasnt complained about this ones 20x optical zoom. But I still think its extremely pocketable.Image quality is superb. We went to Disneyland one day and took hundreds of photos, during day and night. Super clean, clear, and vivid photos during the day. Some of the effects are neat too. Naturally night photos werent as good, but still were pretty damn great photos. The image stabilization and high sensitivity sensor really makes a difference! The presets for night, day, macro etc. all worked wonderfully as well. She is always very happy when she uses it.Photography is a small hobby of mine, so I can be a bit critical, but this camera has really impressed me. For a point-and-shoot, you cant go wrong. For my girlfriend, who just wants it to be easy and simple but knows the difference between a good and a bad photo, shes extremely happy.Pros :Easy to useGreat photo quality, day and nightI think its very pocketableGreat zoomCons:Maybe just ours didnt get it, but the strap you attach to the camera and then to your wrist, didnt come with the little slider thing that you use to tighten it. It can easily slip off your wrist without it. But i wont knock off any ratings for that.Overall, great buy. You wont regret it.

Amazing.Here are the things I like most about it:*Canon QUALITY is always amazing*Fits in your POCKET*The 20x Optical Zoom gets you REALLY REALLY close to the action.*Fully zoomed out has a better 'landscape' lens than other cameras.*Full HD allows you to record top quality videos (make sure you have a big SD card though)*Fully Manual or Fully Automatic allows you to either let the camera do the work, or have fine control over all camera settings (aperture, shutter speed, focus, exposure, etc)*One of the best VALUED cameras (best features for lowest cost)If you want amazing quality pictures with a huge zoom lens that offers the best value, this is the one to get.One final note: Don't compare this camera, or any non-DLSR camera to a DSLR. If you want the best pictures possible, a DSLR will always be superior. However, in my case I find that the camera that you carry with you all the time, is the one that you get the best pictures with. I am the type that wouldn't want to lug around a heavy camera with multiple lens etc. When I travel, I throw this camera in my cargo shorts pockets and I ALWAYS have it with me.PURCHASE NOTES: I purchased this for Xmas 2012 for $200.
