I was thinking this would be about the size and weight of the PowerShot Elph cameras I've been using, but it's much larger and heavier. It will fit in your pocket, but not comfortably. Make sure you have a good belt because the weight of the camera will make your pants sag :) For that reason, I might not travel or hike with it. So if you like the size of the Elph, this camera might not be for you.Having said that, this is a great camera. After seeing what its amazing lens is capable of, I realize that it was unreasonable to think that it would be any smaller or lighter. The range of the lens really is unbelievable, and the depth of field almost puts it in SLR territory. It takes very high quality photos, is easy to use, and the price is right.One thing I wish were different is the pop-up flash. It's located inconveniently and is just annoying in general. I don't know why they didn't just embed it in the face of the camera, like with the Elphs.

I ordered this camera after a long research. I was undecided between Canon PowerShot SX260 and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V. I found this camera on sale on Black Friday, ordered it online and it arrived on my door the next day! The fastest delivery I have ever had - great job Amazon!For the camera itself, I am still exploring all the functions. One feature that was attractive to me based on the reviews I read is its versatility in manual settings, in addition to automatic or pre-set functions. I have not explored that part much yet, but I have tested and have been enjoying a few tricks that this camera has. I like pre-set effects such as the fish-eye, miniature, vivid colours and night-shots. I think its night pictures are particularly good.To be honest, initially I was gravitating towards the Sony camera but bought this because of the good price. But I do think they are more or less the same, so the more difference in the price, the more reasons to go with Canon. For anyone in the same dilemma, I would not go for Sony Cyber-shot if it is more than $30-40 more expensive.Overall, I am very pleased with my choice, I think it is great value for money and very versatile. The 20x zoom is also amazing. I might update my review when I explore details that I might have not discovered yet.

Great camera. I took it on a 16 day trip to Israel and took 100-200 pictures a day. Image quality is great and the lens is outstanding. You can really get close in on things far away. It has two pesky features that would keep me from buying it, just be aware. First, the battery life indicator seems misleading. It seems to go from full, full, full, full and then to empty with little in the middle. This only bit me one day when I had not charged it overnight (because the indicator looked full still after a day of use) and then pretty soon into the day the battery ran out of juice. The other thing is that the on/off button is right next to the shutter button. They are different shapes, but on more than one occasion I went to take a picture and turned off the camera. Not ideal, but I would still buy it anyway.

I did a lot of research to replace my Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ3 (screen died) and this Canon Powershot SX260 HS is simply fantastic.The colour of the pics look natural, look good at high ISO and keeps the natural colour with the flash. There are none of those flash-bleached washed-out colours and best of all it adjusts itself to distance. I took some close up pics with flash and they still came out great. It takes a while to get used to the position of the flash (as you find your hand in the way) but I loved that it pops up automatically. I disliked that on the Nikon I had to put the flash up manually.I have had very few blurry pics and those were, were hand held at max zoom, and as everyone would know, there are few cameras that can manage that without a tripod. However, I got many good pics too at max x20 zoom handheld too; I just had to be careful.It is fast from start up and between pics are taken. I had no problem catching my feisty kitten running around or my gorgeous but hyper-energetic niece.The video quality is also great. There were some negative reviews about a high-pitched noise during playback which made me apprehensive about buying this model. I am pleased to say that it was not warranted. The picture is crystal clear with great sound on the recording. I heard none of the whiny sound there had been some reviewers had noted.Perhaps this camera seems so amazing to me because technology has moved on a lot in a few years, since my last camera purchase. However, I also tried the Sony and latest Panasonic equivalent models in store but they didn't stand up to this model.Overall, this is a great camera and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I'm lucky. I dropped my 3 year old Canon camera in San Miguel de Allende. Luckily, I ordered the Power Shot SX260 HS 12.1. Why? Because my friend had one and she was going to visit me. I used Amazon to order the camera and ship it for $11.00 to SC. My friend brought it into Mexico and together, the 2 of us took a photography class from Robert de Gast - a former National Geographic photographer (he's now in his 70s). Together we learned the settings. Because of Robert's 2 hour class, I am having wonderful success with this camera.

I purchased this camera eight months ago and have taken thousands of pictures on it. I have owned Canons and Nikons in the past, and this is, by far, my favorite. It is easy to use and takes excellent pictures. My son dropped it today on the ground and the lens is now stuck. I am very disappointed that it could not take the "drop" on the ground; however, I am very pleased with its performance. I will probably decide to purchase the same model again.

If you are looking for a point and shoot camera, then this is a camera to consider. The thing I love about this is the amazing wide angle lens. You can take some beautiful images. Granted the image quality at night time is not great, I guess thats what you get for a point and shoot. The overall image quality is great. Good color and saturation. I would say its bit on the softer side when you see for sharpness and also the noise is a bit more compared to nikon point and shoot. 20x zoom comes in handy. The thing that I love the most about this camera is the super awesome wide angle of view. Great for travel, landscape photography during day time. May not be good for portraits and night photography.

We bought this camera for a 2 week trip in Italy. It was great for that. Lightweight and compact, turned on really quickly so I didn't miss any shots. The battery lasted a long time too. The zoom was great. Controls and display are easy and clear.

I bought this camera as a replacement for my Canon Power Short 500. I love this camera as it has 1080P mode video capture which is really good. The pictures are sharp and excellent color rendition. The only complaint I have with the camera is it has too many options. It will take a while to understand all the options and use them.

I bought this camera for a trip to Europe, and was utterly delighted with it... until I was in London and suddenly discovered the lens wouldn't open and shut properly, because the little metal plate over the iris had gotten bent in so it touched the shutter iris blades. This happened while the camera was in its case in my pocket!!! A lovely man at the local camera store used a pair of pliers to do a quick fix, and the camera (although a bit the worse for wear, cosmetically) worked fine for the rest of the trip.Last week I sent the camera to Canon for repair, with an initial estimate of no charge to me... but yesterday they told me they were going to charge me $250 to fix it or replace it with a refurbished model. Needless to say I was shocked -- especially because the damage was the direct result of the inherently fragile design of the shutter assembly. I told them just to send it back to me, and I'm just hoping it still works when I get it back. I've never had anything like this happen before, and certainly not with a camera that was brand new!In the future I will certainly think twice before buying any Canon product, and I will examine the sturdiness of any camera's design much more closely. And yes, I will probably pony up the bucks for that "super-warranty," because the Canon warranty is not worth the cost of the paper it's printed on.

This camera does an excellent job with both indoor and outdoor photos. I don't like the size of the larger professional or prosumer type cameras to bring while travelling, so I prefer a point and shoot. Cellphone cameras are convenient but the picture quality is extremely poor compared to the ones a dedicated camera can take. This camera even does 1080p video. Almost every shot is perfect. Color is vivid, yet realistic, no blurring or noise. White balance is pretty good except in extremely bright and very dark extremes. For a simple to use point and shoot camera, this one is very, very good.

I had another Canon Power Shot before and was happy with it. Unfortunately I lost it. So I did my research and came to the conclusion of buying another more up to date Canon Power Shot. I was not disappointed! The colors and clarity of the pictures are great. The camera does reduce movements which will make your pictures sharper. The only flaw the camera has is that the pop up flash is located at the very top where we are all used to holding it. You must remember not to put your finger on the pop flash preventing the flash from popping up. Honestly you will get used to not putting your finger on pop flash.

I have always bought Nikon, but switched to Cannon. I really miss the touch screen and the ability to charge the battery from a USB port. I am afraid that I will loose/leave behind the wall plug battery charger for the Cannon. This is a good little camera and we have made some great movies with excellent sound recording. I got a 64MB memory card and used only a fraction of the space. I don't worry about the little guy going crazy with pictures and movies of bugs and other creepy crawlers anymore.

My daughter found this camera for me when I told her I wanted a digital.I am in my seventies and didn't want to go TOO crazy. Did not want three hundred feet of lens, but I need a large screen.Needed something not too technical but yet, something not too wimpy. I have a printer that also prints photos and thought I should get into this century, camera wise.Am delighted. Not too sophisticated and not so easy it could be a Brownie ( some are too young to understand that statement).I have a granddaughter graduating from high school tomorrow and will relish using the movie feature..(Can't wait) Inmy day uyou would carry two large, heavy cameras for two functions. All this and more !

I am far from being a professional photographer, but read the reviews by those that are both amateur and professional, resulting in my purchase. This is a fantastic camera as it allows me to point and shoot or to adjust the settings as needed. I am super impressed by the zoom features as many of the shots I take are of rescue animals and can't get toooo close to them. I have only had this a few days, but am finding it hard to put down. The ease of use and clarity of the photos are absolutely key. Price is much better on Amazon than on Canon direct. :-)

Great for Still Photos. But it is a Very Long wait in-between snapping a pic.Battery dies quick and it's a rechargable battery that takes hours to recharge.So, unless you plan on buying a bunch of rechargable batteries to keep on hand.This is Not a good camera to take outdoors on vacation with you.

I'm not a photographer... just a wannabe, But this camera exceeds everything that a begginer wants. I think its pretty OK for intermediate users. Even if you want to have all the control this beautiful machine lets you make all manual adjustments you like. Great resolution, awesome optical zoom, night pictures so good. I admit, I'm in love ha ha ha ha!!!

I bought this camera to replace my sx230hs this camera is what the 230 should of been, no wireframe firmware problem with the flash popping up on start up no slow zoom it just works. Also never buy from best buy bh photo you get quality I can beat my chest about how long I've been a photographer but I've found buying from bh I never had a problem also this camera is not for the amateur photographer you will find this camera complex and hard to you use, buy a lower series camera. I bought this camera for the features and you can't beat 20x optical zoom. The only thing I wish was different was the feel of the buttons my sx230 had raised buttons where the sx260 the buttons seem more into the body of the camera. But this does help with keeping the camera smoother and easier to slide in and out of pockets as a good travel should be able to do. One last thing make sure the GPS logger is off and buy a second battery due to the large zoom it does eat battery's quicker than a typical point and shoot should. Also get yourself a class 10 name brand sd card to truly see the speed of the camera when I'm in program mode I endup taking 3 pictures by time everyone else has taken just one which is nice.

Owned a previous model of the Canon PowerShot and was going to upgrade to the newer model (SX280) until I read that the newer model (SX280) did not have a good battery life. Very happy with this model instead. The zoom is sufficient and the clarity of the pictures is wonderful. The only minor problem I have found is that there is a slight delay in the time to actually take the picture.

I've used this camera for three or four months now, and it takes great photos. Two cautions: First, it is heavier than some cameras in its class, though not terrible; and the weight is a good trade-off to get the amazing zoom capability. Second, I usually carry the camera in my pocket and have learned to check the dial to make sure the camera is on the right setting before I start shooting, as the dial moves easily. The good news is, as you turn the setting dial, the screen tells you what setting you are on (ex: automatic, manual, live, video, etc.) and what it does, so you can make adjustments quickly and easily, without squinting in the dark to confirm the setting. I would definitely recommend this little camera.

This is the most infuriating camera I have ever owned. It does take pretty good photos in good light and has a great zoom range, but the controls are terrible. The multifunction wheel is dreadful. Trying to use the rotary function while adjusting one parameter is impossible without accidentally activating one of the several other menus that it also controls. For example, when Manual Focus is selected, rotating the dial will inevitably activate another unwanted menu such as the self timer or compensation function. It is essentially impossible to use the manual focus without changing other settings unintentionally. Or likewise, adjusting the compensation by rotating the dial will ususally result in another menu being opened and that parameter changed unintentionally. In addition, the autofocus is worthless for close-ups and macro work. I have spent many infuriating moments trying to take photos of flowers and the camera is completely unable to focus. And, as noted before, the manual focus is impossible. So basically this is a good camera for portraits and scenery, but forget about macro work and still life photos. Simply infuriating.

Maybe I am having issues, but I have tried adjusting the settings and without using the flash cannot get this to go away. Basically, when I take a photo all these light dots appear all over the picture. Anyone else have these issues?

I am not a photo expert. I wanted good value, something to reach out and pick a good shot from some distance. Something well regarded in the reviews, not just amazon.com's. Something that can travel easy with size and durability. I did not want lots of options needing perfect selection or other accessories like lens and filters.A knowledgeable friend researched what I wanted and recommended this camera and it was perfect.Took this camera to China and Taiwan and shot over 2000 pictures with almost all just adjust for framing and shoot.I have a wonderful picture of my wife looking out a window in an ancient Chinese garden from over 100 feet away that makes this camera worth buying. Some additions I liked were:1 "3x Canon PowerShot SX260 HS Premium Invisible Clear LCD Screen Protector Cover Guard Shield Protective Film Kit (3 Pieces) from Gadgetarmor & Accessory (This shield is as good after long trip as when I installed on camera)2. Case Logic DCB-302 Compact Camera Case (This case is large enough for camera (2 ea) extra battery and flash memory and it protects camera well.)3. Transcend 32 GB Class 10 SDHC Flash Memory Card (TS32GSDHC10)I was not pleased with the spare battery I bought as it did not hold up as well as the OEM battery that came with this camera.

There wasn't a memory card with the camera, and it doesn't seem to take pictures without one. Foolish me, I bought an extra battery but didn't understand that the memory card was required. I figured I could take at least a few pictures without one. So off I go to Best Buy. If I wanted to drive 15 miles to the Best Buy I would have bought it there and known.I like the compact size and it feels sturdy. Will update once I can take a picture.

I've had Canon cameras for more than 8 years and they still work. This camera I had for few days, dropped it two feet with the lens open (got bumped while taking a picture) and the lens malfunctioned, refused to close and the camera is unusuable. Didn't get service plan since reviews said they didn't come through. The repair for camera is about $200. So - it is trash. Do not recommend this purchase - Not the old Canon quality. See July Consumer reports for better recommendations. Very unhappy with this purchase and the total loss.

If you need built in GPS like I do, than this camera is for you. I've been using it for UAV mapping, its built-in gps along with the fact that it is a Canon camera which can be "customized" with CDHK makes it a powerful camera. Note that newer Canon's that offer GPS are no longer offering it built into the camera, instead they require you to use your smart-phone which wastes battery and is useless for someone like me that is placing the camera in an aircraft.For the price this camera is one of the best in its class hands down.

I own a Canon DSLR that I love, but sometimes I don't want to or can't bring it along because of its size, like on a recent trip to a professional baseball game. I bought this camera based on reviews, and I am not disappointed. The zoom is amazing. I got great pictures of baseball players in the dugout on the opposite side of the field and on the field that are clear and close-up.The camera is small enough to fit in my jeans pocket or my purse, but has many of the same features as my DSLR. I love, love, love it.As anyone who uses a DSLR knows, the only drawback to this camera is that unlike my DSLR, the camera doesn't take the photo the instant I hit the button, like with my DSLR. But I can adjust for that, and for the convenience of this camera, it's not a huge drawback.

I bought this camera because of the good reviews. And it is a very nice camera with an excellent zoom for a pocket camera. However, there are two things I don't care for. One, the camera gives you very few shoot modes to choose between. Instead, the camera automatically chooses a mode, and if it isn't the mode you want, there is no way to change it. Two, the camera doesn't have a good macro mode. If you are looking to take close shots of anything, choose a different camera. If you are looking for a small, pocket-able camera with an excellent zoom that is easy to use with little fiddling, then this is the camera for you.

I love the camera, but when I got it I noticed it was a gray market camera. I contacted Amazon on their chat line and Anthony was very helpful. I was able to return the camera and get a new one sent out to me with free 1 day shipping. So now I will still be able to take this camera with me on our trip to Norway. He was very helpful in this matter. I hope the new camera has a USA warranty.!

After my dog passed away a couple years ago I regretted not having any pics of her from when she was a little puppy. Then a few months ago I found a tiny baby kitten in the backyard. I was determined not to make the same mistake with our new companion. At the time I had an older point & shot and tried to take some pics of kitten. Most of the shots didn't turn out that great. I pretty much had to turn on every lamp in the room to get a reasonably good shot. So I upgraded and bought this camera. This camera is amazing. I can take terrific pictures late in the evening with only one distant lamp on, and with the burst mode I can capture my new critters antics and she runs about chasing her mice and other toys.It also has a really nice zoom which I'm looking forward to exploring this spring/summer when it's warm enough for me to go hiking. I'll also get some exposure (no pun intended) to the manual/aperture-priority/shutter-priority modes which will shorten my learning curve when I make the leap to a DSLR.

This camera is so awesome. It even does some things that my husband's big Minolta digital SLR does. I took and pic of my son's cannon ball into pool and caught him in mid air......with no motion blur!! Still learning about all the cool stuff it does, but I really love that it's easy to use, and you can do custom settings for the advanced user. I got it as a gift and would absolutely recommend this camera!

The zoom is impressive, the clarity is great, and the HD video is fantastic – yet all this comes in a delightfully small package. I also like the color options. There's really nothing about it I don't like, and it was worth every penny.

I did a lot of research on consumer reports and talking to individuals that had purchased different brands. Normaly I am a Nikon customer, but I wasn't happy with the quality of picture I was getting with my coolpix.The zoom on this camera is awesome! The pictures are crisp and bright...Even when taking pictures from a distance in a gym. The only thing that took me awhile to get used to is where the flash pops up on the top of the camera... It's where I would usually put my finger to hold the camera when taking a picture, but after a few times its easy to remember. The size is a little bulkier and heavier than I'm used to, but it's worth it for the zoom and picture quality. I've always bought other top brands so this is my first Canon and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another.

This has been a relatively easy camera to learn to use which considering the amazing amount of functions is quite something. It has taken some amazing photos and i have to say the ones that haven't come out well have been due to user error during the learning phase. The size is good for taking with you anywhere, it is heavier than my last one of equal size but not a real problem. The battery life is very good even with heavy usage of flash, the video does drain it a lot faster but I don't use that function too often although with the quality of the video I might start using it more! Talking of the flash this is something I saw in other reviews before i bought the camera and they were right, it is in a bad spot, it tends to be where you have your hand so when it goes to pop up your hand is in the way. I will get used to it and hold it differently but can be annoying. All in all great value for the money and a great option for me when I don't want to take my full blown SLR and lenses with me as this takes fantastic shots.
