I am happy with this subwoofer purchase. I currently have a 6.0 surround sound system but the two fronts are larger infinitiy speakers with 5" woofers in them. They can product some lows but I was looking for a bit more. I didn't want a larger sub cause I just don't have the floor space for it. I had been eyeing this sub for a while and finally took the plunge.
I feel the way you can tell a sub is doing its job is but barely noticing it is there. I notice more deep lows, especially with movies, but it isn't overwhelming. This is exactly what I wanted. Fits great on the bottom shelf of the TV stand. I would recommend.

Through my own fault, I didn't realize my stereo doesn't have the capability to turn on the speaker, automatically. That said, the speaker sounds great !

I did not like this subwoofer.
The sound that it produces is way way worse that a lot of subwoofers in the same price range.
I buyed with the idea that it could replace my old and cheap JBL 8 inch ported subwoofer in a Slim Space but this subwoofer is far worse evem from my old JBL.
I really like the idea of save space and the slim aspect but unfortunately sound have a lot of physics involved. This small box simply can not reproduce similar bass of the bigger boxes, even the cheapest ones.
My advice is to find the space in your home and put a real subwoofer with at least 10 inches drive, the diference is VERY noticiable.
If you can't find the space, you will be better served with a 2.1 Speakers Kit.

I expected to get floor thumping bass out of this but I can hardly tell when it's on. I guess that's why it's called a sub-woofer instead of a woofer.

Very disappointing!1/.Power on light far to dim and small.2/.No track playing information shows on screen of subwoofer.3/.i pod will not fit safely and securely in i pod socket.4/.Cover for i pod socket should be permanently fitted to unit,I have spent a lot of time trying to find this when it has fallen on the floor.5/.Very poor bass response,nowhere near what I expected!!!!!!! I am extremely disappointed with this item!I will think long and hard before I buy another Yamaha audio product. I was going to send the thing back but I couldnt be bothered packing it all up to take to the post office.WAKE UP YAMAHA THIS IS PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A+ great base without being boomy in small form factor. I use it in a 7.1 surround sound system in my bedroom and it's perfect.

I've addedthis to my pair of studio monitors and has added space and depth. Good quality sound. Takes a bit of time to get bass level right. Pleased with them. Good price. Prompt delivery.

My room is approx. 27ft by 12ft and this subwoofer has ample power for me. I now have actual 5.1 surround sound with the existing speakers. I have hearing problems (getting old) and this setup gives me clear speech. It's also very good for all my music. Good value and, as usual, very quick delivery.

I picked this up to add a little more low end to my stereo in addition with my mid 70s Infinity Quantum Juniors. The Jrs are a 3 way ribbon tweeter, mid dome and 12 woofer. Fantastic speakers, audiophile in their day. They have plenty of range just wanted to enhance the sub frequencies just a little. I run the volume about 35 to 45%. It has more than enough woof for my needs, jazz, classical and classic rock.

Like many of the other reviews, I was looking to add bass to my sound system. I recently added a 40" TV in my living room and mounted into a media rack. It has 3 shelves the bottom two only about 7" high. Well this unit fit right in and plugged right into a simple Sony Receiver/AMP. I tuned it to the size of the room and now I get a great theater effect in relatively small room. Best of all, my wife never even noticed it tucked on the shelf of the media rack. Price was fair, but not a great deal. Overall still a very good deal for a perfectly matched component. Remember, this is not designed to thump the floors and get your neighbors to call you to turn it down. But for a solid bass to round out a small audio system it is superb.

Very good bass out of a compact unit. I do wished it powered on and off with the Onkyo reciever I purchased with it. Other than that it is a good value for a low cost sytem.

Received my sub as a Christmas gift yesterday.Plugged it in and haven't really got to enjoy the unit yet but I've heard slight improvements already. So far we've watched NBA games and HD programming. Hopefully this weekend I can crank up the unit over some movies and get a good thorough assessment. May need to work on speaker placement but so far I am VERY happy (as well as my wife).
**UPDATE**
So last night I was able to get my hands on the system and incorporate the sub using Auto setup (denon avr 1910). For what I can hear I get deeper sound and better audio "feel". Now this will not shake the room or walls but it's subtle enough where it blends with the other speakers and makes the experience pleasant. Like few people who wrote reviews, I was highly skeptical settling on this sub. As of now with few days of movies, sports and HD programming I can hear slight improvements and is pleased with the selection. Above all able to hide the sub and be out of sight. We're all definitely happy with the sub. So for those general FAQs,
1. Unless it's a Yamaha receiver there's no auto shutdown
2. Works with auto setup
3. Recommended to have the volume at 50%
4. Comes with additional grips to be placed on its side

looks great and sound great and blends in with my other components. bought this with a Denon RCD-M39DAB Micro Component CD Receiver System and a pair of Bose 161 speakers. The whole system looks good and sounds great.

I have this sub connected to a Yamaha YAS-101 soundbar. And, the combo is just awesome in my bedroom. Plus, both items are on sale right now due to the newer models being recently released.
One negative is it doesn't have an audio-signal-sensing auto-on feature. It requires a trigger wire. This is fine, if the sub is close to the AVR or soundbar (if so equipped). But, would require running a long trigger wires (cable with 2-conductor mini-plugs at each end) to utilize the auto-on/off feature.
Other than that one negative, it's shocking how powerful this tiny sub is.

As we live in Spain we had it delivered to a friends address, and when they drove back to Spain they brought it over for us to find that it was not compatible to our sound bar which you said it was.

this is more of a nitch sub, as a pro AV installer I have used this for low level installs to fit under couches and inside cabinets, my customers I am using this for probably don;t know what a subwoofer is, so this one is small and inexpensive and fills in some Light mid bass, don;t expect earth shaking bass but cool for what it is

We chose this as a replacement for a Yamaha subwoofer that we had for 11+ years. This new one had a loud humming noise when it was turned on. We plugged it in several outlets throughout our house and got the same result. We tried different cords, etc, but nothing worked. We ended up returning it.

The bass is good, deep but unobtrusive, as I like it. You forget it is on until you switch it off and the overall sound seems to lose a lot of depth. The form factor is ideal for me, also.
On the minus side, the "on" switch is manually operated, and it never switches off by itself, so that's a bit of a pain. You need a Yamaha amplifier to switch it off remotely. You'll have to put a remotely controlled power plug to avoid that inconvenience, or just get used to the continuous, although probably minimal, power consumption.
