I went for this model as I liked the idea of not having to place it on the floor so it annoys my neighbours below. The unit feels and is very well made and stylish. Setting it up is a doddle for your amp it comes supplied with the phono lead to connect it to your amp (it also comes along with a switching cable meant for yamaha amps to auto turn the amp off).
The Sound it produces is fantastic, things have a weight to them, for instance light sabers in Star Wars sound more menacing and deadly, the distant rumble of the spacecrafts engines make you feel like you are onboard.
There is also little to no vibration coming from the case so things are not going to annoy you by rattling or buzzing.
Highly recommended.

I gave this woofer a 5 star rating just because it is what it is: an inexpensive, no frills but solid performer. My living area is average size and with my 'Visio' 3-D sound bar it works great. Other reviewers have called it boomy, and it can be at higher audio levels, but for watching flicks and action t.v. shows it does great at even under 50%.
I haven't used it yet with my i-pod dock but I can see where it may distort the low end sound some, but for the bucks you can't beat this 'Yamaha'. As for it having to be turned off manually, it's not a big deal for me. I mostly use it for flicks like I said before, so it will be off for the news and game shows etc...Even in this age of remote control everything, I can make it off my butt to push a button.

Overall, I like this subwoofer after owning for a week or two. I am not an audiophile, but was missing the bass in my system as my current room configuration did not allow for my larger subwoofer. The Yamaha YST FSW050 was a great solution. It fit within my entertainment center, easy hookup to my Onkyo receiver, and simple controls. After configuring with my receiver, have the subwoofer set at ~3 for volume. Produces a decent amount of bass and was surprised I did not get any rattling of my entertainment center. You have to manually power on/off, but not that big of an issue. If you are space constrained and can't run wires across the room, this sub is a good solution.

As someone else mentioned this sounds somewhat boomy. The other thing is that it has only a single mono RCA input jack. If your source device does not have a subwoofer connector (as my Vizio TV does not), you may have to select left or right to go to the subwoofer. When I connect the two with a Y connector, it turns all my sound to mono. Bummer.

Matched currently with a new Yamaha 444 center & 555 tower 3.1 system. I've used impressive 8" & 12" passive/active subs by B&W & Velodyne over the past 20 years. I purchased this Yamaha because my wife didn't want an "ugly box" on the floor with a previous "hide the cables & boxes" basement in-wall 5.1 system. This sub actually fits and works well on the TV stand lowest shelf.
My verdict: Simply amazing for the size & price. Very tunable and attenuation controls very effective. It works/balances great with the new all-Yamaha speaker system purchased when we moved. Highly recommend Dependable Resources, too. Honestly, you will be surprised by the range, output & accuracy of this concise unit. I do not agree that it is boomy at all; it is so easy to balance this sub. I can say this because it's been used in a a variety of rooms and systems, and it always adjusts to an appropriate output. It's not chest pounding like a top 10 or 12, but quite ample for most situations.

I bougth this Sub on 2008 on US$176 ands after three years the price don't fall significatly, I supposed that means this device has good quality; the bass are tremendous and its size is ecellent for samll spaces, this works with a Kenwood amplifier and Infinity speakers. 5 stars.
One year more I changed the Receiver to Onkyo 515 and It still works properly.

You cannot beat this unit for the price,its is easy to hookup and use. its size is very un intrusive and it can be installed on either side or the bottom. It is a little boomy , but acceptable unless you consider yourself a home theater guru, then you probably want a REL subwoofer for very large bucks. The only fault is it stays on all the time and you have to switch it off if you are so inclined. all in all a good unit for the price.

I bought this to enhance the sound of my ceiling speakers. I wanted something small that would fit under a table or love seat so my choices were limited. It's just OK. It cranks out a lot of high, boomy bass but doesn't sound very natural. I have it hooked up to the subwoofer output of a Yamaha CRX-330BL CD Receiver. Unfortunately, neither the receiver nor the sub have a crossover setting. I think that would make all the difference in the world. On certain songs that have low bass notes, the sub seems to reproduce those notes pretty well. The problem is it has a peak at around the 100-200Hz range that makes everything sound boomy.
Another complaint is the sub does not seem to turn off when no audio is fed to it. There is a control cord that came with it but no where to plug it into the receiver. Every other sub I own turns on when a signal is applied and turns off after a few minutes if no signal is detected. This is a poor design.
I plan to open the box to see if there is anything I can do to improve the sound. Perhaps some acoustic foam or fiberfill in the cabinet may reduce the boominess, if it doesn't already have some. If that doesn't work, I'll try some modifications to the circuit to see if I can lower the crossover frequency. I'll report back with my results.
If size is not an issue, there are much better subs out there for just a bit more money. They Sony SA-W3000 is far superior to this sub and only costs $30 more. If your budget (and floor space) is bigger, you have many subs to choose from. My favorite is still my 15" Velodyne. I haven't found anything else even comes close. Of course when it comes to subwoofers, size does matter!

I can't quite manage 5 stars as it is not that good on it's own. Add the woofer and it's a different kettle of fish.
I have it as the speaker system for a Sony Bravia and I really don't think that our room is the ideal situation as it's about 15' x 32' and the speakers and the TV are across the narrow section. This means that beaming to the sides passes through an archway int to dining area and a similar distance through the lounge. Having said that I must admit that the final result is very good, and I would recommend these speakers.

Pairs perfectly with my ysp-1100 sound bar; the result is super crisp. At full volume it's a little much, but at 50-75% it fills out the sound perfectly.

Sub sound great and allows you to position it vertical or horizontal. I use it with a Yamaha v667 receiver and the bass is excellent.

If I had an extra $200, I would get something else, but I didn't. For theprice, I am satisfied with the slightly boomy sound and the plastic finish.

I bought this for use with my YSP-4100 sound projector. I was very happy with my sound projector before, but now with the sub I'm ecstatic. I only began thinking about a sub after reading reviews of what a difference it makes to the sound experience. I chose this sub because of the good reviews and for the form/fit in my rear shelves. This unit exceeds my expectations and I would recommend it highly. I was going to give it 4 stars since there is no auto on/off and because there's no remote to adjust the volume, but I decided not to penalize the product just because I have to get off my lazy boy a time or two.

I have just purchased this subwoofer and am very impressed with it. Although it is only the base model with an output of 50 watts the bass it produces is mind blowing. To top it all off the unit is extremely stylish and fits into my TV cabinet perfectly. To sum up I thoroughly recommend it to anyone in need of a sub.

Excellent product-haven't annoyed the neighbours too much with the extra noise!It was slightly bigger than i expected but it squeezed in amongst all my other components-but i've been told i can't buy any more systems but who knows,if i spot something else i,ll talk them round! Everything was as the advert described so i'm very pleased!

I recently received a Vizio Sound Bar for Fathers Day to replace my very old surround system (which by the way I also highly recommend). I wanted to get a new sub that I could place in my media component tower so I viewed and researched many of the low profile subs available. After careful consideration, I decided on a Yamaha. I have used their components in the past and have always had great results with them.
I checked many different electronics websites and as usual, Amazon had the best price. I ordered this sub along with a UltraLink Matrix 2 interlink cable (see my review on that product page) at 3:30pm est on Friday, chose the one day shipping and had both products in my house by noon on Saturday!
I immediately hooked up the sub and the sound was AWESOME! I threw on my BluRay copy of Pirates of the Caribbean At Worlds End and sat back. The bass tones blew me away! For the price of this sub, compared to many others of this style, you can't go wrong! If you're in need of a sub and don't feel like spending a weeks pay on it - Get This Sub!

Overall, the sound quality is good, but the more better subwoofers will automatically turn off the power when no signal from the tuner is being transmitted to the subwoofers. This subwoofer requires the power to be turned on and off or left on continuously. This is my biggest complaint.

Purchased for use in my private Mac based home studio, so I could hear the deep end of my recordings. I am using it along with my M Audio studio monitors. Technically speaking they may not be considered a proper match (the Yamaha is a bit over kill), but I am hoping to add more powerful monitors in the future.
The Yamaha has a very good looking design (looks great with my M Audio monitors), the controls are on the front (something that I wanted) and performs just as expected. Blown Away ! 5 Stars

This product didn't exactly blow my socks off, but it adds a nice deep sound to my music and movies. I picked this unit because of its relaively thin size. I have a small space between my entertainment cabinet and the wall that it just slips into perfectly, so I don't have to put it on top of the cabinet. If you are looking for theatre quality booming sound, this might not be for you. But if you need a slim, low priced unit to complement your lower end system, this should work out well for you.

I bought this subwoofer for a 2nd home and it delivers quite well, enhancing the sound from my small Polk speakers. The room is small,so the size was perfect for placement behind a chair. I am happy with this purchase.

PURCHASED THIS YAMAHA SUB-WOOFER FOR EXTRA BASS,BUT I MUST BE DEAF OR THE ITEM IS FAULTY OR I HAVEN'T SET IT UP CORRECTLY....THIS IS WHY I HAVE GIVEN IT JUST ONE STAR....I AM GOING TO RETURN THIS IF I CANNOT GET SATISFACTORY RESULTS.....
