If you get an 8-port Gigabit switch, I doubt you will find a better one than the TRENDnet 8-Port GREENnet switch. It is very easy to set up and very fast. The hard disk speeds in your servers and PC & Macs will be the limiting speed factor, not your network with this switch. Also, it uses just a few watts and is barely warm, even under heavy use. This means less operational costs (electricity use) and less cooling. The price is also very low for what you get. I've had this switch for over a year now, and it's performance has been flawless!

This thing is literally plug and play!Make sure that you don't set it up without a router, you could run into some problems. It should look like this: Coax>Modem>Router>Switch. It's alot smaller than I expected, which is a good thing for me! Feels really well built, and connects easily. I have a PS3, Xbox360, WDTV Live Plus and my cable box plugged in. They all work seamlessly,

I needed an ethernet switch to give internet connections to my ps3, Directv DVR and my Pioneer home audio receiver. I don't like the lag and slower speeds associated with a wireless connection so I needed to run a wired connection. The only issue is that my router is on one end of my house and my home theater is on the other side. I had only run a single ethernet cable as I wasn't expecting every piece of electronic equipment to require a wired connection (lol). I ordered this unit and plugged in each individual device and they all immediately were connected to the internet. No configuration necessary! It really doesn't get a lot easier than this folks. My only gripe was the ports on the back of the device are not labeled (#5 is ethernet IN). Other than that it works very well.

Bought this ethernet switch so that I can hook up two computers to the internet. Works perfectly fine, just remember to purchase another ethernet unless you already have one, so that you can hook the switch to the ethernet jack, and then another ethernet cable(s) to hook up your other devices. So far, this switch has been working perfectly for me, it even has a energy saving option that might be useful for people looking to cut down on some energy bills, it does however require that you plug a jack into the wall to power the switch. The switch is pretty well built, and solid, I am surprised at how small it is, you can fit it into the palm of your hand, and it's very easy to conceal. Plus there are lights that blink to show that you have a internet connection on the devices that are connected to the switch.Overall I recommend this switch if you need to connect a few devices to the internet by ethernet, however if you need more than 5 ports, buy one that has more.

I bought this to replace a more expensive Netgear switch that worked fine, only the power cord was temperamental on the Netgear and came disconnected with the slightest jiggle. So far, the TRENDnet works great, and it stays plugged in.

This switch is solidly built in a sturdy steel case. I attached the rack-mount hardware with the slots down so I could fasten it to a floor joist in my basement. It's working like a champ. Now everything is on a single switch (instead of four smaller switches) and the huge mess of spaghetti wiring I had has been discarded. This was money well spent.

I needed more ethernet connections because my modem only has one slot. The TRENDnet gave me an additional 3 slots. It has 4 ethernet connections and another for your router or modem to plug into. Great product ran immediately. No software needed. Buy it!

I am using this inbetween another switch and a router to run 75' worth of cable. Simply hooked the wires up and it worked. No fuss.I went with 100mbit in this case because at the far end I'm routing IP Cameras which won't saturate the available bandwidth. They worked immediately with this setup and have never given a problem.

This switch is great. I've been working with computers and networking since the early 90's (anyone else remember Mosaic?), and I've had to deal with a lot of switches that required manually setting every little thing in order to get it to work - and of course every type of router you were connecting the switch to required different settings. This switch is absolutely plug-n-play. If your broadband (cable, DSL) router is filled up and you need to add another network device, you cannot go wrong with this switch. The documentation is horrible, perhaps even a bit misleading. In the troubleshooting section, it says something about the switch not being designed to allow more than one computer to access the internet. Well, that's technically true...you can't just have a switch and really do anything with it...but if you have broadband access, you have a router (technically, that box on your desk is a router plus a 4-port switch) so that is already taken care of.So...here's the details on how to get all your computers, network printers, network storage, game consoles, blu-ray players, etc. to talk to each other and the internet. Be sure to follow these instructions exactly...1. Turn off all your computers, printers, etc., and the broadband router.2. Unplug something (anything, it doesn't matter what, but I usually use port 1) from the broadband router.3. Run a short ethernet cable between the port on the router you just freed up and ANY port on the switch.4. Plug the thing you just unplugged and everything new into the switch.5. Plug the switch AC adapter into the wall and the back of the switch.6. Turn everything back on.THAT'S IT! How could it get any easier than that?I think TRENDnet is really missing a selling point here by not stressing how easy this switch is to add to your existing network!I don't know, and honestly I'm not going to try and measure, how much energy is actually saved by the graduated power sent to the ports based on cable length, but I think it's a nice feature to shut down power to a port if the device is idle for long periods of time.So far, I can't think of a single bad thing to say about this switch. When I first pulled it out of the box, I thought it was a bit light (even though it is made out of metal and not cheap-o plastic) to stay on the desk when 8 cables are plugged into it...but then I noticed that they even included a square of velcro to attach to the desk and switch so it wouldn't move around.Summary: if you need to expand the number of ports in your network, buy this switch.

I just bought a LG Blu-ray player (to give my PS3 a needed break) on amazon which had Internet capabilities like Netflix and YouTube. But it's not Wi-Fi and you need to connect an ethernet cable to it. I already had a hard wired ethernet connection for my Xbox 360 coming from my router and needed a way to add more connections. This TRENDnet 5 port switch was the answer!Setting it up was so easy and everything works like a charm! I even hooked up my PS3 with a hard wired ethernet connection and the DL speed is better than the Wi-Fi speed. Now I have a Blu-ray, PS3 and Xbox 360 coming out of this switch and all work great and all are auto detected when in use. For under $25 bucks I was able to get this switch and three 3 foot ethernet cables on amazon to do this setup and the only word for all of it is... AWESOME! If you're looking to do something similar this is your device!

Works great. Super easy to set up.I only had one Ethernet cable running down into my office from the router in the house. I needed to supply the internet to 3 PCs, but didn't want to run more cable. I plugged in that Ethernet to the first channel of the switch, and then each of the PC's Ethernet cables into the additional slots. Worked immediately.Only negative is that it requires power, so it's wall wart is taking up a chunk of real estate on my power strip. But for the price, it was a no brainer buy.

I've installed these in three locations, and am pleased with them.Note that there are 100 mB/s versions and 1 gB/s versions; pick the one you need for your network. The unit is quite solidly built; heavier than one might think, with a nice metal enclosure. They work well with multiple ping-time-sensitive devices such as VOIP telephone bases.I don't know the veracity of the power saving claims, but they do seem to run a touch cooler than other switches.I will likely get another next time I need a switch.

I have two TRENDnet 500 Mbps Powerline AV Ethernet Adapters, but they only have one ethernet port each. Using this TRENDnet ethernet switch, my Western Digital WD TV Live Hub 1 TB Media Center and my router (which also has only one ethernet port) and computers can get internet access anywhere in the house. It's very easy to use. All it takes is the ability to plug in ethernet cables. Nothing else is required. For those who wonder, yes I now have two WiFi hotspots set up through my powerline with the help of this handy ethernet switch. No more need to wander the rooms looking for a signal.

Honestly nothing to say for this one...dead simple, just plug it in, plug your RJ45's in and GO. Not even an uplink switch needed, it figures it all out connected to our D-Link router. Put in to replace a 12+ year old switch with a loud, grinding and probably dying fan. Cheap enough to warrant the swap-out, made it an easy decision. Dead silent and "eco friendly" (or so they say). Fine by us!

bought this cause i have a xbox360 and a ps3 and was aggravated by swiching the cat5 cable from one to the other. this truly is plug and play. no disks in the box. just the swich and power cable. very easy. only down side is it is really small. keep in mind if you are going to do a set up like mine that it has 5 ports. one has to have the cat 5 connected to the internet then that gives you 4 other ports for web surfing fun.

I like these switches (own 3 for separate gigabit networks at home) because they're well built, easy to wall mount, and are reliable. There's not much more to say, except that I cannot really articulate how well built these are. Metal enclosures, handle drops well, and have a well thought out simple design. You could get some overly large plastic crap which may work or may let you down, or you can get one of these.

I needed a small, inexpensive switch that I could hook my Xbox, Wii, and Slingbox to that would then link up to my main house switch. The main problem I have encountered in the past with cheap switches is the inability for the switch to auto detect the connection speed and duplex properly with some other switches and network cards. This switch had no problem auto detecting the correct speed and duplex on every connection. It also had no problem with the auto MDIX, which means it can correctly link up with another switch or router. The auto MDIX is on all the ports so you don't have to worry about having to use a dedicated uplink port on the switch. They advertise the Switch fabric as 1.2Gbps and I believe that is accurate as I had no problems with slowness even when I loaded the switch down. Great product. You will not be dissapointed with this switch!

I needed to replace my 17-month old D-Link 24-port switch and opted for this TrendNet model based on price and customer ratings. I must say that this is a great switch for the money. I cannot comment on it's "green" viability but it's nice to know that it will use less energy as I leave it running 24/7 (like any network switch). The lights are easy to read and the switch is very responsive. I run my AT&T Uverse TV, several computers, and a wifi access point through it so it gets plenty of traffic with no perceived bottlenecks. The only thing better would be a gigabit switch but not every device on my network needs that kind of bandwidth. The only downside to this switch is it's side, it's considerably wider than the 24-port D-link that it replaced. However, I'm hoping that it will be more reliable than the one it replaced. If not for it's wide width, I'd have given it 5 stars.
