I've got both an Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Wii and wanted to give some insight into the differences.
The Xbox is a professional deal, no doubt. You can do all sorts of things like download movies (HD ones too), games, all sorts of things like that. The graphics are insane and the games hard core. So when I got a Wii recently it felt a lot like going back in time to the days when I owned a Nintendo 64. The sophistication of this thing is that old. They really put out a no frills model with the Wii.
On the other hand, they got it right. When my brother and his two kids visited we found ourselves having a blast playing games. My brother worked up a major sweat doing the boxing. This is a great family console. All I've played is the sports games on the demo disk but that's enough of a novelty that I'm satisfied. The controller is a cool idea, it's not 100% precision but neither are the games.
Recommend getting this. I had to get one on Ebay for 315 because they were sold out everywhere else.

Mii like Wii very much :-) and I have not been a traditional gamer. So to have this product convert me to a partial "gamer" says a lot.
I see some long night of Wii bowling ahead. If you are looking for fun get this product. If you are looking for a gift, find out the preferences of the person you are purchasing it for first, some hard core gamers may not find this to be appealing.

We absolutely LOVE this game console:) It simply can't be beat for $249.99! It is great for all ages, my boys are 5 yrs. old and 8 yrs. old and they are able to run it by themselves. We have people over and play bowling tournaments and golf, tennis, etc. It is so FUN:)

The Wii Remote itself is a revolution in gaming. The nunchuck attachment, which is essential to play many Wii games (Zelda for instance) is something to add on to that revolution.The nunchuck is easy to set up. Simply plug it into the base of the Wii remote and you're ready to go. The remote uses sensors. The nunchuck also uses sensors to perform certain actions in games. In Red Steel, for instance, you'll need to use the nunchuck to knock over tables. In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess you'll need to use it to perform a spinning slash attack.On the other hand, the nunchuck is mostly used in games where you'll find yourself having to move your character around. The nunchuck has a control stick for this reason. It also has a C button and Z button that can be used in many games. These buttons, as well as the motion sensor, are very responsive. The better part? The nunchuck doesn't take batteries. However, it should be noted that the nunchuck attachment will drain the batteries in your wii remote faster.There is really only one problem that I have with the nunchuck: It's sold separately from the wii remote. While not every wii game needs the nunchuck attachment, a great deal of them do. As of this time, Nintendo is not selling the nunchuck and wii remote in a bundle together. Instead you'll have to buy them separately, and if you buy an additional remote, you may want to buy a nunchuck to go with it. This can be costly.Still, the nunchuck is a great attachment, and is actually essential to enjoying all of the interative goodness Nintendo's new gaming system provides to gamers.

Ok, you've seen the advertisements. You've looked at the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Now, you are wondering how the least expensive next gen game console compares to its more expensive competition. Nintendo's Wii not only performs well, it exceeded all of my expectations as far as being a fun game machine.
The Wii is actually a lot smaller than I expected...much smaller than the PS3 or the Xbox 360, and I might add, a lot lighter too. How powerful can such a little game machine be? The answer to this question can be described by what happened on the first day of playing with the Wii...everyone in my household wanted to play with it. This is saying quite a bit as the other members in my family don't play games. I started out with the included game disk called Wii Sports and tried out the bowling game. After a few minutes of play, everyone wanted to try it. Next came the tennis game, the golf game, and boxing game. To put it mildly, the Wii was a hit at my house.
Somehow, Nintendo has decided to not buckle under the pressure of trying to produce a new game machine on steroids that will cost you almost a month's house mortgage payment. What they have elected to do is to provide a game machine that has good graphics, fun game play, and a game console that will not just cater to hard core game people, but will offer everyone else, a game machine that is entertaining, fun to use, and non-threatening. And even if you happen to be a hard core gamer, the Wii should offer you excellent game play too.

The Wii is 250 fifty dollars, comes with a brand new controller dubbed the 'Wiimote', doesn't support HD-DVD/Blu-ray, HD, and has graphics of a lesser quality then it's competiters.
In my opinion though, the only thing that matters is the cheap price and the Wiimote.
We got this system on launch day along with Excite Truck and an extra controller.
All I can say is that it is simply amazing. The controller in Wii Sports is very pricese...it really feels like you're playing tennis/bowling/baseball!
It is very easy to use...within minutes I got both of my parents to play...now they're addicted! They're always challenging me or each other to a match on Wii Sports Tennis!
Excite Truck is quite a fine game too. You use the controller to steer like a while and it is a great experience.
The Wii Channels are superb. The Mii channel lets you create little 'avatars' of yourself to use in Wii Sports, the Photo Channel lets you interact with photos: we even put together a touching slideshow from one of our vacations!
The Wii Shop Channel is quite well, as you can download games from past Nintendo systems. I downloaded two and they both work perfectly.
There are also the Weather and News channels, which are coming in January. I hear they will be quite good.
But to top it off, Wii is truly an amazing system and my whole family loves it. It doesn't matter that it doesn't have the best graphics, the controller is great and just plain fun.
If you see one in a store, be sure to buy it, along with another controller!

One word can sum up this game console: AWESOME! My husband spent a few days of standing in the cold to get one of these. I have to say that before we had it I thought it was going to be another of those so-so game consoles like all those that came before it. But I was wrong. I'm not a big game console player but I LOVE the Wii. It's easy to use, it's compact size doesn't take up a ton of space. The games it comes bundled with are AWESOME! Everything about it is just easy to use, even for someone who doesn't game much. Plus, it's awesome that it connects to the internet and you can communicate with your friends, can access the weather and all sorts of other wonderful features. It by far exceeds any other console that I've seen. We own just about every other console that has been put on the market and I would trade them all for this one. Highly, highly recommended. Well worth the conservative price!

I was originally planning to get a ps3, and my second choice was a 360, but I didn't want a wii at all. After playing all 3 systems (for at least 4 hours each) at my friends house I LOVED the wii. I loved the wii enough that the following Saturday I waited online from 2:45AM at Nintendo world store to get one. Unlike the sixaxis on the ps3 the wiimote is NOT a gimmick, it really does make games a lot more fun. The ps3 and 360 are great, but they're expensive and offer barely anything new (besides graphics). The graphics on them are great but not amazing, and they're pretty much the same as last gen.
Pros...
-The controller really is great
-Wii sports (which comes free with the system) is an amazing game
-Zelda
-Sleek and very well designed
-Virtual console is cool (but expensive)
-Wifi internet
-Pretty cheap (games are cheaper than 360 and ps3 too)
-They're not kidding when they say anyone can play it
-Mii channel is fun
-widescreen and 480p support
Cons...
-Sometimes I wish that the graphics were better. They're better than the original xbox, but I wouldn't have minded paying an extra 50 dollars for at least slighty better graphics.
-In some GAMES the controller's pointer can get inaccurate (like in madden)
-no online gaming yet

-the first party game lineup is great but I'm really hoping for a good third party RPG (like kingdom hearts)

For the past several years, Nintendo has really been taking a back seat to the video game industry. Boy, how things have changed! With this Wii (and the DS Lite) they really are on top of things now. I dont necessarilly mean the utmost power, but (I think) the utmost fun. I just got a Wii yesterday and I have to tell you that the ENTIRE family had a blast all night! We just played the Wii Sports disc that came with it.. Bowling is a blast, Tennis is great, Golf seemed a little hard (need practice I guess), Baseball isnt bad (its kinda basic) Boxing will make you break into a sweat, LOL There are also a couple more things to do on that same disc. The controller works great, it doesnt take long to get used to. The WiFi was easy to set up with my Linksys wireless router. The Weather Channel is SO handy, as is the ability to leave a message for another family member. A calendar is also included in the menu. Each person can set up and personalize his own "avatar" , which is kinda neat. There are so many different things to do with this (including surf the internet if you wish), I really cant say enough good about it. Nintendo has a winner here! I also have an Xbox 360 which is great in its own right, but I have to say that this Wii is more FUN to play, so far... However, initial set-up took a little while because of a couple of system updates and the Internet Channel download (free) This only applies if you hook it up online though. It was all very easy, just a little time consuming:)

Unless you don't expect much from a system, then the wii is perfect. It has a few novelties that grow dull real quick (Mii's, motion sensor thats wacky as hell, virtual console,...). The sad thing is the best part about the system is the old games on virtual console, which you have to pay $5-$10 for, are you kidding? We've had one for 8 months, has been turned on for maybe 15-20 hrs total. The best game they have is the sports, unless your a fanboy of Zelda or Mario (which are childish and mediocre) and that's all that needs to be said. If you even think about spending more then the base $250 for this system your out of your gourd, if you have a wide screen your going to feel cheated by the standard 4:3 ratio of the system (looks horrible on 16:9). PS3 or Xbox360 is a better investment then this thing, game selection and shelf life will exceed the wii by yrs. That's my 2cents.

We've been playing the Wii quite a bit as a family this last week. My wife (who is not a video game person) has greatly enjoyed it, and we have been playing Wii Sports and Mario Party 8 with our children ages 7 and 9 (and a little with our 3 year old). Lots of fun, intuitive, and at least a little bit active.

If you are a new Wii user, you need to buy at least one more Nunchuk. This control is needed for almost every game. I have already bought three of then to complete the four set, and invite family and friend to play.

Great product, innovative - shows that all the latest bells and whistles are not neccesary for a great gift. Opened it on Christmas day and had 3 generations of our family playing within the hour. It was hard to find, but well worth the effort. Thanks Amazon!

Yeah I know this may not be the popular opinion, but it's the truth. The Wii, while fun, isn't anything more than a repackaged Gamecube with a funky controller. There's nothing 'next gen' about it at all. Output tops out at 480p, so if you have an HDTV it really looks like crap next to the PS3 or the Xbox360. What does it have? Hype! And lots of it! Everyone wants one because everyone else wants one. Sure it plays all the Gamecube games, it should, it has Gamecube guts after all. So that's a good selling point. It's also going to be the only place to find Nintendo exclusive games like Zelda and Mario and Metroid. But is that enough?? It's also cheaper than the other big two, but at $250 it's still about $50 too much for what you're getting. Also you can't just charge the controller via USB cable when the battery runs low like you can with the PS3 or Xbox360 controllers, so expect to be buying LOTS of AA batteries for your Wiimote.
Don't get me wrong, the Wii is fun....in short bursts. It's fun at parties and when you have people over. It's always fun to laugh at people waving the Wiimote around like a crazy person. It's the non-gamers game system. But if you're a real gamer and really want to step up to the next gen of gaming, next gen graphics/ online play, go with the PS3 or Xbox360. You can always pick up a Wii down the line as a second console to go along with your PS3 or Xbox360 when the price drops, and catch up on the Zeldas and Marios. Just don't fall for the hype!

Got this as amazon voter choice winner. WE LOVE IT! Could not hope for more fun. Was given as household Christmas present and it is on everyday. The Wii is used by my 4 year son as well as his 40+ year old parents. And we occasionally catch the 18 year old daughter having some fun as well. THANKS AGAIN AMAZON!!!!

Everything we expected. Completely as advertised. A family item that is getting used heavily. The game included, Wii Sports, is easy enough for our six year old, and challenging enough for my gamer husband. He can't beat her at bowling, and it is driving him nuts! :) Highly recommend for families.

The Wii Nunchuks are a must have if you have a Wii and multiple controllers so you don't have to do "nunchuk sharing" with games such as Wii Sports or Mario & Sonic at the Olympics.

My family and I have had our Wii for about 3 months, and we are still amazed with it. It is absolutely the coolest thing we own. We have several other game consoles but the Wii is hands-down our favorite. It gives new meaning to family game night.
My only suggestion is get a couple memory cards so you don't slow your Wii down.

What more can I say, I bought it for me! I'm 41, my son has his own Xbox 360, this if for me!!! Fun for everyone. The family get's together and has bowling tournaments......It's a blast. Hopeing to use it everyday for a workout!

I never had so much fun in playing a video game console until I played the Wii. It is such a blast to play. My mother was even playing the Wii, and she doesn't play video games at all. I highly suggest getting yourself one of these, you won't be upset nor will anyone else around you for that matter.

First of all, I really like the Wii. I've had it for about months now (since january) and I am almost completely satisfied. The motion sensitivity is great fun and party games like Rayman Raving Rabbids and Wii Sports are a lot of fun. However...
I realize that the Wii is a good party system and great for multiple people, but it lacks a lot of strong single player experience games. Zelda is still the only one that I thought was a lot of fun (to be fair, i haven't tried paper mario or ssx blur, and I've heard good things about both). And i have yet to see the motion control be used in a truly innovative way. THere have been many "tech demos" that prove that the potential is there, but it has yet to be utilized. Also, the lack of online is annoying, but I heard it is coming in June, and hopefully the fact they are delaying it means the service will be that much better when it comes.
I realize I am rating the console on it's current status. I also realize that within a year or two, online, true innovation, and full games that are entertaining when alone will be there. Then the Wii will be worth all 5 stars. So I give it four for now, but I have high hopes for the future.

Got so excited got the wii ordered in time for xmas for the kids, get the thing hook it up and it doesn't work, instead of an exchange on there next shipment as they would usually do I get a refund and have to hunt for another one..
