I got one for Christmas. It is now about 10 days later, and no one in my family can put it down. Every day they come over to do their Wii fitness age for the day in Wii Sports. My brother, dad, wife, and son can't get off of Excite Truck and various Wii Sports games. My mom wants to bowl all the time. A good friend is constantly playing tennis and Zelda.
This is the most fun I've ever had with a console. My brother's 360 has sat dormant since Christmas...even the two new games he got for it have hardly been played.
The Wii is for old and young alike. It is not for the hardcore gamer that wants realistic blood & gore. It is a system for families and friends to play and laugh together.
I got Zelda for the Wii. It's fun. But I agree that the Wiimote's capabilities don't add a lot to this game. Maybe in a future version it will. Right now, many of these games were made for the Gamecube and have simply been "adjusted" to work with the Wiimote. The games such as Wii Sports & Excite Truck were specifically made for the Wii and really show off how the controller can enhance gameplay. Soon, more game developers will begin to understand how to best utilize the Wiimote's abilities. A year down the road we'll start to see FPSs and RPGs that will compete with the 360 and PS3 for gameplay.
Until then, hardcore gamers stick with those systems and the rest of us will have a blast playing this totally new type of gaming console. This is not the next generation of the same old console. The Wii is a whole new category of gaming console. Not necessarily better, but altogether different.

The only bad thing to say about it is that the remote doesn't detect movement in REAL 3d space. I figured out that I could pitch a ball by swinging my arm backwards instead of forwards. There's several other games with similiar little glitches like that.
Overall, however, the Wii is great fun. Even if the sensor bar confuses my motions, the fact that the Wii forces me to move makes me love it.

I myself was very skeptical about the Wii. I always loved nintendo but the gamecube was not very impressive and it seemed like this was a radical new approach that could ultimately be the fall of nintendo. Fortunately I think it is the very opposite of what I thought it would be. It's possibly the most fun I've had playing video games since I can remember.
As for the games... the best games right now are all multiplayer type games. (Wario Ware, Rayman, wii sports etc.) None of these games are very long and even though I have a LOT of fun with them I rarely find myself playing for longer than an hour at a time.
For the hardcore gamer Zelda is really the only great game out right now. (I'd say it's on par with Ocarina of Time, arguably one of the best games ever.) Nintendo's line up does look promising though. Games like Mario galaxy and Super Smash Bros are something to look forward too. 3rd party developers also seem very interested so who knows what else we'll see on the wii.
So is the wii worth it? If you are a casual player or you just want some fun you should defiantly try it out. If your a hardcore gamer and you like the zelda series it's probably a good investment but if you are interested in FPS' online play and RPG's you should probably wait and stick with your PC/PS/XBOX until the wii develops some more.

The Wii finally gets you and your family off the couch. In fact many of the games the included Wii Sports and Rayman work you out so hard it is like an aerobic workout. 4 player Tennis is some of the most fun my family has had in a while. Forget the issues with the strap ... it is more likely that someone gets hit when 4 people are swinging and jumping around like crazy trying to win.
PROS:
- natural movements, ie, swing the remote like a tennis racket to play tennis
- detects quite accurately both your location and the speed and motion of the remote
- easy setup, connected to my WiFi for internet in minutes
- amazing slideshow and weather channel (make sure to zoom out to the globe ... you can spin the globe and check out weather all over the world)
- huge potential for expansion via download channels
- small, quiet and elegant unit
CONS:
- poor resolution compared to Xbox360 and PS3 (component cable does improve it)
- small selection of games at present- some are poorly rush ported from other platforms
- wireless remote can disconnect in the middle of a critical game when you move very fast, ie. smashing in tennis, (this seems to happen more often with certain batteries)
- wire between remote and nunchuck - nunchcuck should also be wireless
- if Sony or Microsoft have any brains, they will eventually come out with Wii type controllers, but they are probably 1 - 2 years behind.

The system also povides good excercise. Really helps prevent the normal lazy gaming style (lounging around on the couch all day). I actually work up a sweat every time I play tennis!
Fun system, average games.

The Wii not only gives the typical 14-24 male a chance to have fun, but also Mom, Dad, and Grandma can play and have a blast. With their strategy to 'bring gaming back to the masses,' Nintendo have succeeded significantly. Now, all the family can play on a video game console and really have a good time, which is something not typical of video game machines. But as I have said, Nintendo has a Wiinner!
It is a good thing that Wii Sports come with the Wii because it trully shows what the machine can do, and it's also a great party game. Get four people together and play a match of tennis or bowling and you are in Nirvana!
Of course, there are also other great games for the Wii besides Wii Sports, but that is a trifle irrelevant. I'm here to discourse on the Wii itself and its hardware.
Which brings me to my next point: the graphics. Now, the Wii is not a graphics powerhouse. Some have been audacious enough to call it a Gamecube 1.5. But that is of no matter. For many really don't give a hoot about the quality of the graphics as much as they do about the gameplay. Would you rather look at a georgeous monopoly board or actually play it? I'd go with the latter. How about you?
The Wii is cheap, fun, and can get the family together. What's not to love?

Matt is crazy for Wii and loves to show it.

The only problems I encountered with my wii and that kept it from being a perfect 5 was the wifi. I had to research online for an hour to find out the wii has major issues with many home routers. In order to get the wii to even WORK on my router, I had to disable WPA and force it to use channel 11 which is overused in my apartment complex already. Even then I would get a random error code every now and then. Due to this I had to go out and buy a LAN adapter. I wish the wii included ethernet onboard instead of the ill-functioning wifi.
