It took very minimal time to set up. The only difficult part was getting the Wii to connect to my wireless network which is secured with WPA2 security. After a quick adjustment in my router's settings it was able to connect.
The unit is amazing. It is friendly (as the girlfriend often describes it, 'cute'), the controls take a little getting used to but it has been more fun than I could have ever imagined. Wii Sports is a blast and tennis is my personal favorite. My girlfriend loves boxing because frankly, she's gotten the hang of it and I haven't, yet. You can really have a workout just playing Wii Sports!
Now we've started to expand into the Virtual Console titles, Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart 64, Donkey Kong Country, which cost about $5-10 USD each. Of course you have to buy either the classic controllers or Gamecube controllers to play most of these games, but we're definitely getting our money's worth.
The Wii has been one of the best and most rewarding investments we've made in a while. It's a console to above all, have fun. And we do!

The setup of the system itself was fairly simple and straightforward. We discovered quickly that even just setting up the Mii's (your individual "character" for such games as WiiSports) was already entertaining as you selected hair color, height etc, reminded me of the Sims but on a simpler level.
We first began with WiiSports since it came with the system and within 10-15 minutes could easily use the controllers especially on tennis and bowling. I was surprised at how involved your whole body was in playing these games. For example, when bowling you really have to do the motion (leg involvement and all) of bowling to get a good hit.
For launch we also purchased Zelda and Call of Duty 3. They graphics and sound on both are amazing but since we only played them briefly I won't review them further here. The games could have looked 10x better if Nintendo had bothered to release/produce the component cables. We have an impressive TV but without the component cables you could definitely sense you were missing the crispness of the graphics.
The only cons I will say are:
1-the sensor bar that you have to attach so the wireless wii-mote will
work was a bit frustrating. This was largely due to the fact that we
have cats and they kept walking in front of it. I hope we can find a
better area to attach it to.
2-Accessories. As noted, no component cables available, very difficult
to get additional controls, and the additional controllers can start
running up the bucks!!!!
This is a wonderful system that could be for the whole family. We can't wait to take it with us on Thanksgiving to have everyone play. I hope more are made available soon as the game selection is much more versatile then other systems on the market and this system, in general, will be playable by a large market base.
ENJOY!!!!

Another awesome feature is the virtual console. I was a long-time emulator user and loved playing all of the old games on my PC, but it may not be legal to download the ROMS, and I couldn't play on my big plasma. The first download was Super Mario Bros., followed by The Legend of Zelda. Since then I've downloaded almost every title that's been released. Although the new games are the best part of the system the virtual console has allowed me to enjoy some more casual games.
If all that didn't make me happy enough, I can watch youtube videos on my TV now too.

Another plus about the wii is all of the other stuff besides gaming you can do on it. I'm still exploring all the many facets of the console, but there really is a lot available. And I also love the fact that I have access to a whole catalog of classic games on the virtual console. Big plus for nintendo there. And of course, how many other consoles that you have purchased recently come with a free game, and a pretty decent one at that. Overall this is a great system that will meet the needs and desires of the whole family.
Pros:
-Great interatction
-Fun gameplay
-Free game with the system
-access to a bunch of classic games
-Excellent Price point
-Great Remote control combination
Cons:
-Average graphics
-Wii remotes eat batteries

setup:
super easy and very well explained, make sure you set up in a room that allows your full arm width as you will use up a lot of space. There is also a sensor that you will have to place in front of you for the controller to work, the distance of the sensor cord (for those with projection screens) is about half a rooms length. The only thing that took a long time during setup was the updates when we hooked it up to the internet (about 10min), and you have to make an account with Nintendo.
controller:
Awesome and very intuitive, even our non-gamer friends were able to get a hang of it within a minute.
the Mii: allows you to build an avatar (sp?) which you can allow to "travel" and interact with other people's Wii systems. These are a blast to make, all of our friends... even those who refuse to pick up a traditional controller, had a wonderful time building there characters and sending them out in the world. Not to mention any time we get lonely there they are ;)
parents: there is "log" that allows you to see what games have been played and for how long, as well as parental controls so you can control what your child plays when you are not around. I highly suggest you try to play as well, it really is a lot of fun, and easier to learn then a traditional consoles.
The sports game that is included:
great starter game to get you used to the controllers, not to mention alot of fun. It also allows you to track how many calories you have burned while playing tennis, bowling, baseball, golf and boxing. (And I don't even like sport games)
Overall:
it is very, very fun to play and great for parties with people of any age (we're in our late 20's and 30's). The controls are a wonderful innovation and very natural. I would suggest this for anyone, even non gamers. Several of our friends were considering PS3 and skipping the Wii, but after playing once they are determined to get one.

I think we paid for the Wii in the number of bowling games we've had out of it alone.

P.S. All ages love the wii. My little cousin who's four has one and so do my grandparents!

Hi!, I'm from Venezuela and for latin people who brought stuff in amazon.com (and for everyone else), I recomend Nintendo WII...The experience playing it's completely diferent that using another consoles!!
See you!!

Quality titles are on the system. Not many at this moment that will blow you away, but alot of fun to play. With Nintendo coming out with the usual suspects soon aka Mario Kart, Metroid, Smash Bros, etc... you will soon have plenty to play. Gamers that like third party games may be a bit dissappointed with the system because they don't make many titles on the Wii.
The Wiimote is the best part of the system. I have had many problems with the newer games as they have tried to put too many things into so few buttons. You had to at times contort your fingers into positions that it hurt after long playing periods. With the Wiimote its almost solely motioned control. So a sword slash is a mere flick of the wrist. Though watch out for others when playing. Its very easy to backhand somebody else if you get too close to them. Playing in a large room with plenty of space to move around is suggested.
