I ordered this camera (which was originally across the country), and it arrived in the amazing time-span of 2 days. The camera is spectacular, and so was the deal that it came with. A $700 value; the Nikon D5100 came with a cleansing kit, two sufficient memory cards, an 18-55mm VR lens, and a strap etc. For an outstanding price of $250, this was a "deal steal". Very pleased overall.

I wanted to replace my D40, and after looking at the 5200,7000 & the 7100 as well, decided on going the economical route. I'm thrilled with the performance of the camera to date (500+ photos). A nice upgrade from the 40 which I loved. I don't see for my use what more I'd have gotten for a lot more cost with the upgraded models.

I bought this also for a professional purpose but have been using it for personal pictures. They are all very nice and great to take pictures of very active baby!

Awesome!! Camera and its features are superb. Make sure you are aware of all the features to make most use of it. had a wonderfull time using different effects.

I had a traditional (film) SLR thru college right up until last year. I'm not a brilliant photographer, but I took some amazing photos with it. This Nikon is sure to up my game. It's amazingly easy to use, lightweight and it looks cool. I added a 35 mm lens and a 300 mm zoom to my kit shortly after purchasing this bad boy and, although I haven't had much to shoot yet (it's a drab, dreary winter here), I'm looking forward to really testing its chop. But, so far, I have no complaints. The controls are intuitive and easy to use. Delivery was bang on schedule and no defects I've detected. Highly recommended for those just starting out in DSLR photography but don't want "beginner" gear. I imagine I'll eventually upgrade, but I don't envision outgrowing this camera any time soon.

I had the pleasure of trying the Nikkor 105 mm f2 lens out for one day before returning it.It is a beautiful metal made in Japan product. The pictures had beautiful color and luminous quality.Warning: it is not for use in D5100 camera. This is not an AF-S lens! The D5100 only takes AF-S lenses!I was misled by the manufacturer spec which says the lens can be used in DX format cameras. Also, the B&H website said the lens is not to be used in D40 and D60 cameras but there was no mention of the D5100 camera.However I was sad to learn that this lens's autofocus feature does not work in the D5100 camera. The whole point for me was the autofocus feature. I was devastated to learn that I could only use AF-S lenses (motor inside the lens) with the D5100. When I was shopping for a camera, it did not occur to me how I would be limited in lens selection.I got the 105 mm f 2.8 AF-S lens instead. It is OK but it sure feels plasticky after the f 2. This one is made in China.I feel like I lost my first love.Otherwise, this is a great, easy to use camera.

This camera consistently puts out great pictures as long as your using the right settings, and the right glass, but that goes without saying. The buffer is amazing for continuous shooting if your using a fast SD card. Yes, you'll have to "menu-dig" for items that are otherwise one button away on other brands/models. But I'll take a few extra button pushes for a quality camera. If you outgrow this one in a hurry, then next camera in Nikon's lineup will fix that issue. I chose this over the Canon T3i based on ergonomics and what I consider to be superior low light performance and battery life. If your a hardcore video enthusiast, the Canon wins in the video department - but the Nikon wins in the stills department, in my honest opinion. A talented photographer will do fine with either camera since they are so evenly matched. I'm running this camera with the 35mm prime for indoor/low light, 50mm prime for outdoor/low light, 18-55mm kit for all around day shooting, and the 55-200mm for a budget zoom. Next on my list is a macro lens. There seems to be some lemons out there based on the reviews on here and at Costco for the camera body, but mine is working fine as of this writing. Oh, and the Nikon's SWM focus motor is amazingly quieter than the Canon's kit setup. This was also why I jumped to the Nikon camp from my old Pentax setup. Get this camera and go out and shoot some pictures. You won't be disappointed.

I purchased the D5100 body to upgrade from my older D60. Any how the purpose otherwise was to get rid of bad pixels, but the first D5100 had one really obvious one, sent it back, and the replacement was so bad it reminded be of looking at my old D60, so sent it back for refund this time. Well my conclusion is to never order a a camera again, just maybe accessories no camera body, harder to go wrong.

every excited to get my new camera! I did a lot of research and decided to by D5100. I believe it is pretty good for beginners.

A vast improvement over the 3200 fast lite and a great autofocus feature. I especially like the live view function and the price.

I like this camera so much, is amazing the photos I can take with it and the diferents effects. For the moment I'm so happy with it.

A definite step up from my D40. I'm glad I decided to go with the D5100. I took it on a trip to Rome and was very pleased.

This camera is mechanically great. I mean, it takes great shots, feels solid, and stands up to the scrutiny Nikon owners have for their gear.HOWEVER...It is very menu intensive and doesn't have the ability to store settings profiles.Every time you need to change settings you have to take you eyes off your subject/environment and sift through menus on the LCD. There is almost nothing that can be switched or changed by feel.Bottom line: Great camera, but it is much more on the "consumer" side of a "pro-sumer" DSLR...

For being my first dslr it is pretty neat I just didnt like how sometimes it was hard to focus but overall it was great!

Best camera for the money. The best entry level camera. Everything you need on a cameraI gave it a 4 star because there are times the focusing just wander and won't do it. But anyway, it gives me everything I need for a camera

If you wanted to always be a great photographer or you already are, then you need this camera! This camera is an amazing camera and the pictures turn out amazing in a full high definition shot! The only bad thing about this camera is that it is very expensive. Most cameras made by a different brand are not nearly as much money. I recommend this camera to anybody who loves taking pictures!

The camera was in perfect state. Everything was perfectly boxed. Refurbished by Nikon. And it is an amazing camera as well. Too bad it dosent include a case, but thats ok

The Nikon D5100 does everything I wanted it to do and more. It is easy to learn, easy to use, and I couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Buy this camera if you have a D200 or older. It blows both my D70 and D200 away in almost all areas except weather-sealing. That said, I don't generally photograph out in the rain or extreme cold, so that doesn't matter so much to me. It offers compatibility with up to 64GB SD-cards, for cheap and reliable storage. It is better than the D200 in......focusing speed (better results under more challenging situations....battery life (at least 4X, probably more). I photographed an entire wedding including over 1000 pictures and the battery never moved off 4 bars. My D200, which I was using as a secondary with a fast portrait lens went dead twice, with fewer pictures taken in the same time period....low-light sensitivity. Read the specs. Very useable results up to 6400, but goes higher with better results than the D200 at 3200....tons of shooting features, including 1080p video...."beginner" dial makes it extremely easy to switch modes....huge 3-inch display with live view.Cons......must manually focus older lenses requiring focus motor.You can "surf" this price range ($500-$600), buying new cameras every year and get more capabilities faster as compared to opting for a more expensive model such as the D7000 and upgrading every three to four years instead for the same money, except less up front cost each year.

This camera was my step up from my D3000, and I simply love it. For the money, I can't recommend it highly enough. If you have the funds and plan to stick with DX format, go for the D7100 for the additional features, but otherwise, this camera along with some good glass is really outstanding.

Its much better than d3100, the one I had before. Its a very good camera to begin learning. HD Video rocks!

I am just beginning my journey into photography and I have found the Nikon D5100 easy to use and more than capable of performing for my needs. I needed a good camera to create product shots for an online catalog. I attempted to use a Point and Shoot but I could not get those close-up detailed shots that are necessary in some cases. The D5100 along with a Macro lens, have satisfied that need.It takes some time learning how to use it, but the effort is worth it. A great beginner camera for those stepping into the Digital SLR world.

The Nikon 5100 is the best camera under $1,000 with excellent clarity, features and ability to take low light pictures. The Nikon 5100 has about the same quality pictures as the D7000 but without all the extras. If you buy the Nikon 5100 body also get the Nikon 35mm 1.8 Af-S Prime len for $200. The Len does not zoom which at first may seem like a deal breaker but it teaches you to work for the picture and understand what you're doing. Also the Len is insanely fast, crystal clear, excels in low light and ability to create great bokeh (focused subject w/ blurred background). Once you understand how to take pictures the next logical progression is to buy either the 55-300 or 70-300 len. I currently own the 1.8 prime and the 55-300 and there isn't a picture that I can't take. I use the prime len for 95% of my shots and use the zoom lens when I need pictures at a distance.Don't be FOOLED by mega pixels, they are a marketing ploy, anything over 10mp is a waste unless you plan to print images over 2x2 feet.
