I just received these speakers today and was pretty excited to connect them to my desktop, and lo and behold what a disappointment. The speakers have nowhere near the power that the Z-2300 have(own the z-2300, but puppy chewed cable going to control pod=no sound).I heard the difference right away, sub sounds weaker, satellites highs almost non existent and distort while listening to music at about 50% volume. The speakers are rated at 200w, don't believe it, the subwoofer is lighter and smaller(7" driver compared to 8" from z-2300) than the sub from the Z-2300(bigger and heavier subwoofer =better bass reproduction)I thought there was something wrong with speakers because of the lack of power and distortion from satellites, binged Z-2300 heir to Z-623 and boy what a revelation. The sites article title(Is Logitech z-623 the true successor of Logitech Z_2300?)was very revealing as to the make of the Z-623, the driver for sub is smaller and the parts are now of lesser quality. The article also mentioned the wattage and that it was not as powerful as the z-2300-which if you own both the z-2300 and z-623, you already figured that out as I have. The speakers have a good build quality, but the innards are no where near of the z-2300.If you're looking to update from z-2300, look elsewhere, you'll be disappointed like I was.If you want a decent pair of speakers for the money then they are okay( not great like z-2300)

I had always thought 'more speakers = better sound' so that if a 5.1 and 2.1 system were the same price I would automatically prefer the 5.1 system. These 2.1 speakers have shown me that for some situations, a 2.1 setup is better. There is something to be said for the simplicity of fewer cables and speakers cluttering up my desk. Also in general, given the choice between 2 good speakers and 5 mediocre speakers for the same price, I prefer the sound from the 2 good ones.I use these speakers for listening to music and podcasts while gaming or photo editing at my computer. What I wanted was a solid sound with strong mid tones while at my home office/nerd cave. I don't use these for watching movies in a large room where surround sound really shines so the lack of surround isn't a problem. The smoothness and strength across the pitch spectrum from speakers in this price range is impressive. You can crank the volume to a very loud level without degradation.Having power, volume, and bass controls on one of the speakers is much preferable to them being on the sub woofer or their own control pedestal as one reason for going 2.1 is simplicity and ease. The speaker with the controls also has an mp3 player in port and a headphone out port which is a nice touch as well. The physical cases of the speakers and woofer are solid although the style seems inconsistent with the industrial looking screws around each speaker contrasting the curved angles of the cases. I'm still giving these 5/5 since for me style is unimportant and subjective to personal preference.I highly recommend these for a desktop user who's into gaming, or listening to background sound while working on other things.

I'd describe myself who someone who likes good music and good quality sound. On a scale of 0 being not caring about sound, 5 being 'normal', and 10 being crazy audiophile, I'm probably around a 7. If you are a 5 or below on the scale, these speakers may be OK for you, but if you are a 5 or higher, read on...Bottom line: These speakers are not well balanced. Highs sound muffled, some frequencies are as if they aren't even there, and the bass sounds more boomy and excessive than tight and controlled. I agree with a lot of what Steve Eagle's review said.I spent about 3 days testing these, playing different songs, changing equalizer settings in itunes, trying to convince myself that these were good... but it was obvious that the sound just wasn't right. It didn't sound horrible... just didn't sound great. And for the money, I expect great, not "OK". I decided to take a $25 loss and return it to amazon. I took another risk and got the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks III and I am so glad I did. The soundsticks sound great, and are definitely well balanced with a tight and controlled bass sound. Now, if you are watching movies, the Z623's may do the job. Or if you like loud bass for hip hop music then it might be OK too. But if you listen to mostly rock and some pop, I'd definitely recommend getting the soundsticks instead!Other pros of the z623: handy features with the power, volume knob, bass control knob, and headphone jack on the speaker. Although it would be good to have had a treble knob too.Comparing it to the soundsticks... the soundsticks don't have the best controls (bass control on the sub, touch-volume controls rather than a knob, power on/off control on the sub). But honestly I don't mess with that stuff much anyway - I'd much rather have awesome sounding speakers with slightly less user friendly knobs.Other cons would be the design is just OK and the sub and speakers are both on the large side.

I've had a set of Bose Companion II on my desk for a long time. I'm a dad who used to be a rocker. I make my own music... and I cannot afford big budget studio monitors or sound systems.I did a whole lot of reading before upgrading to a 2.1 system. I knew that I needed a sub to add to the clarity of my music mixes, and my inclination was toward the Bose Companion 3 system. But after even a bit of reading, I came across these on numerous forums.I was nervous. Most of the time I'd seen Logitech's name it was on a cheapo set that someone had in a back room in a box. But I kept reading, and I was truly grateful that I took the plunge. There's a verbal clarity that the Bose systems lack when you're watching movies with the fam. Sure, they can really fill the room with sound and lush atmosphere, but they seriously lack definition of everyday sounds.I couldn't believe the world of clarity and difference that the Z623 has made in our home theater and my recording setup.Again, I'm not talking the $1,000 audiophile budget... I'm talking about real people who have to feed kids, but still want to rock, watch a good flick, and maybe even dabble in some creative music making. The clarity of the high end is wondrous. You'll catch every detail. It's tremendous without being overwhelming.Low end is very controllable and precise. It's not muddy or distorted. Despite making electronic music, I'm not the biggest fan of bass. It can make me edgy, but I love this system. So there ya go! Dad's on a budget, you won't break the bank with these bad boys... great investment.

It was between the logitech z623 and the klipsch promedia 2.1 for me being in a comfortable range for me. I listen to all kinds of music from classical to death metal and electronica to pop.First ones i decided to try were the Kilpsch...A major issue with me was there is no power button not even on the back of the sub, lame.Another issue was the subs performance in certain frequencies there is absolutley no atempt in the sub trying to create them when i turned them up it would just move air, cool effect but i like to here the tone of the sound as well.Another low point are the cheap adhessive feet that come with it, what a waist of material and expense. The best part of this system is the satelites the sound real good and pair nicely with the sub and the overall style of the design is a mark of profession. If this stuff doesnt bother you get these speakers you wont be dissappointed.I would recomend this system if you listen to classic rock, classical, folk, pop or anything that doesn't use sub sonic frequencies. Now the logitechThey dont look as professional but a more scifi design is acceptable the sub performs better but if you want more, your probably going to have to bust out for a real sub at least a 10".Rubber feet are already on all the speakers and they stick pretty good to my desk i dont have to hold the speaker to turn the volume or turn it off and on.The satelites are loud but dont sound as good but are comparable the the klipsch.I do wish the logitech would let me decide which speaker is the left or right because i perfer the controls to be on the right.I would recomend the logitech z623 over the klipsh. Use the extra money and buy the extended warranty and some alcohol.Ive never owned any klipsh products but i own logitech speakers that ive had for a couple years, and are still in use, they got demoted for bathroom use, lol... although with those i have changed out the 1/8" input jack.

Im honestly disappointed I read previous reviews about how "awesome" these speakers are from both amazon/newegg/google videos HOWEVER these speakers being that they do a fantastic job as bass thats sounds great in games my main gripe is simplyvoices - they sound just like they are comming out of plastic 5$ speaker boxes even the generic windows startup tune sounds this wayand in music it also becomes seriously evidentalso the in cockpit female voice in mech warrior online seriously sounds this way as well through these speakers no matter how many different variables I try with my sound card and the thx options it simply gets no better <=(Im sorry I certianly wish I had purchased a different set of speakers since I thought the big "THX" would sound good throughout the entire spectrumIm unplugging these and going back to my worn out 4yr old buzzing altec lansing speakers (long as I keep them turned down buzzing goes away still sounds way better then these)... Ill just have to give these to a friend who loves thumping bass and wait till payday -130$ to meamazon was fast and awesome as always... I just cant believe ridiculous plastic box/toilet voices-music from these 100$+ speakers(id expect this more from the 10-15$ range)

I just recently wrote a review on the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speaker System (Black) since I have had a lot of experience listening to both. I do not consider myself an audiophile but I'm getting there. I've fallen in love with the quality and sound of music and sound systems in the last 3 years so. While I do love great sound I'm also looking for the biggest bang for my buck, and these hit the criteria on the head. What I love about these speakers is the giant sound and lack of distortion. Currently we have our Logitech Speaker System Z623 in our living room of our apartment. As a college student we have people over from time to time and listen to loud bass heavy music. This sound system is crazy if you position it right. It sounds louder than the 12" Mirage sub woofer at my house.Like I said there is very little distortion, the only distortion I've experienced is when someone tries to play a terrible quality rap song. If you play high quality music then you're good to go with these bad boys. The highs are crisp (not as good as the Pro Media's), the mids are prominent, and the lows just ring your ear drums.Since these are priced lower than the Klipsch Pro Media speakers, I have to recommend them over the Klipsch. They sound very similar and at $50 difference who could argue? These are awesome speakers I would buy 100 times over.

When I got these speakers, the first thing I noticed was the powerful, unforgiving bass. It isn't distorted, but is rather loose and uncontrolled. As I gave a few more hours into them, I began to notice how the satellites were a bit muddy. They were decent for the price, but certainly did not compare in quality to my Denon headphones. My mini-audiophile self to me to trade them for the somewhat more detailed and delicate Soundsticks III (something which it is often compared to). However, there was something about these speakers that kept me going back to them, and wanting to put more music through them.Fast forward a year, and I have finally understood my addiction to these speakers. It all just comes back to the bass. That bass is so deep, smooth, powerful, yet amazingly never overpowering in its delivery. It gives music a great sense of weight and heaviness, something which no other speakers, not even the awesome 5.1 Harman-Kardons in our home theater, can produce. Leave the sweeter, more delicate songs to be played by equipment that can produce more detail. These speakers are meant for pop, rock, hip-hop anything with hard, driving beats and huge emotion. Yes, it will deliver, with great enthusiasm.Oh, and movies and games sound great too. Keep them far apart, make sure there's a wall within a few feet behind you, and you can get some pretty good spatial effects (I recommend this setup for music as well). If you need your music delivered with cold, clinical detailing and precision, get yourself some studio monitor speakers or headphones (please stay away from the Beats, they are definitely not "studio" headphones). If you want your music to hit you physically and move you, these are the ones to get. Put some hard beats on it and turn it up, because you've probably never heard anything like it.

When these speakers came out of the box I knew I was getting a good quality set of speakers from Logitech as I've owned many Logitech speakers in my time. I bought these as a gift for a friend, and set them up for him. He was looking for a set of computer speakers of decent quality, but he has very little idea of good quality sound compared to low quality sound.I have to say I enjoy these speakers more than he probably even realizes. The sound quality in the mids and highs is the most crystal clear I have ever heard from a set of speakers let alone computer speakers. The sound is so smooth when listening to all types of music. I was thoroughly impressed. So, I decided to really see what 200 peak watts could do. With the volue at about half and bass knob 3/4 I played "A Milli" by Lil Wayne. I can honestly say I've heard better bass deliverance in terms of loudness, but for the volume of bass this puts out it is crystal clear. They are not lying when they say this thing is THX certified. I played some test tones ranging from 40Hz - 70Hz and it can pack those with a pretty good punch. To sum it up this speaker system is simply amazing for the price and size. Crystal clear mids and highs. Could use more in the low-end, but by no means is this speaker system lacking with bass.Very easy...actually you have to be nearly dying not to be able to set this speaker system up.Highly recommended.

I got these speakers for one reason, I needed some sound. My 3 year old HP laptop speakers just wasn't getting it. When I ordered these speakers, I expected that they would sound good. I expected that they could get pretty loud.I was wrong. I was so, so wrong. I completely underestimated these speakers. These speakers completely blew me away! Plugged into my 3 year old HP, they sounded great! The highs screamed out of the speakers like a banshee. The mid ranges were sweet, sweet melody. And the lows, the lows will just kick your butt! I could feel the beats in the sub-cockles (see: Dennis Leary) of my heart at as low as 20% volume. Then, I paired the speakers with a 'Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro USB Audio System with THX SB1095'. HOOOOLLLLLYYYYYYYY CCCCOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!! Pure audio ecstasy!!!At about 60% volume (computer vol and video vol at 100%) it was as loud as I could tolerate. The walls were vibrating! My colon was vibrating!! My wife on the other side of the house was screaming at me to, "TURN THAT DOWN!!" which I took as a good sign...So, it was really, really loud. But not just loud, it was a nice full sound. Again, highs, mids, and lows blended together in clean, crisp audio heaven.I would highly, highly recommend these to anybody looking for awesome, inexpensive speakers.

i've had the z2300 since 2006. recently I noticed distortion in one satellite and soon after the cone popped off. but they lasted a long time through some pretty heavy usage. that's why I was set on getting Logitech speakers to replace those. so here I arrived, with similar specs I thought this would have been an easy transition. to be honest there was nothing physically wrong with the 623 that I received. my problem is that they are just horrible in comparison. sound quality is great at (LOW) volume. but if I'm in the mood to rock and expect to use more than half of my volume knob I might as well forget it. the 2300 could rattle everything in my house. the only thing that this set can rattle is the Sub's cone as it bottoms out at 3/4 throttle. come on Logitech how could you take such a giant step in the wrong direction?. im going to sell these 623s now for less than I paid for them and search for a suitable satellite replacement for my 2300 as everything else works just fine on it.The only reason it gets two stars is because its probably fine for someone who doesn't care about maximum loudness.

Well, I will start by saying that when looking for speakers , some homework has to be done . Do not go by just reading reviews. I bought the Creative A220 , rave reviews but neither the maximum wattage nor RMS was advertise on the website(amazon). Turned out it was a 9 watts RMS system. If you are not sure about how much power they use, take a minute to find out. These Logitech speakers are powerful, the sound is clear, dialogues are easy to understand . Bass is outstanding. It sounds like a premium sound system without any distortion. You have two 3.5 MM(headphones) input and one set of RCA audio input. One of these 3.5 mm input is on the right speaker (so is the headphone output for private listening)I bought a two males one female 3.5 mm extension cable which was good[...],allowed me to use the same input for my Tv and computer . The advantage of doing that is I can control the tv volume through the tv remote , no matter where the source is (ps3, dvd player ). All you have to do is send the sound to the tv through HDMI or RCA, then use that 3.5 mm(if your tv has one, believe me many expensive new tv simply don't and require that converter)These speakers also have a bass control on the right speaker, which is very convenient. You can totally turn the sub off by leaving the bass off. Not all 2.1 system have that. It also come with the power button on the right speaker , not behind the sub like in some other systems. They are THX certified speakers and it is not just a gimmick , I was watching Black Hawk down the other night and the sound is phenomenal . I was one of the lucky people to get it when it was $109 for like two days and they also come with a two years manufacturer warranty which in my opinion is a peace of mind.

I have two computers in my home office, computer #1 is my work horse and had a set of Harmon Kardon speakers with a sub woofer. The speakers suddenly started to hum and needed to be replaced. At the same time computer #2 is my TV/DVR and had a really old set of Radio Shack speakers with a sub woofer too.I purchased the Z623 by Logitech to replace the broken Harmon Kardon speakers and since they have 3 inputs I was able to replace the Radio Shack speakers too. This is GREAT since I have gained some floor space back! One thing that is not noted in the online documentation for these speakers is there is NO input selector. All inputs are live all the time for me that means if computer #1 gets and email while watching TV on computer #2 the email notification will play simultaneously. The bass response on these is amazing for the price.I looked at sound bars, and other speakers but for the price and sound quality these win hands down.

OK...I bought these speakers because the old ones I was using to watch movies with my projector were rather weak. I read the reviews here and people said these were loud. I hooked them up with the cords provided to my projector and was in shock how weak the sound was. What?? Had people lied???These were worse than my $29 book shelf ones. So I thought they must be a bad pair but then started to fool around with the wiring. I actually hooked up my own RCA cables from the woofer into my blueray player and instantly the walls began to shake. I turned on the movie Act of Valor during a shooting scene and the walls in my basement shook at 60% volume. Wow!!! My 9 yr old son covered his ears but had a big grin on his face. I payed $99 and also received free shipping, this is a total steal for these speakers. If these things are hooked up properly the bass will shake the fillings out of your teeth. Also, I was looking into buying an amplifier for my stereo speakers to do the same thing. Don't waste your money. For about the same price as a cheap amplifier you can get the Z623s and they will blow the doors off your room. For those of you old enough to remember Wayne's World...I say "Rock On!"

PROS:-Clear and not distorted-Powerful-Aux port on side of speaker (Great for connecting other devices)-Durable-Rubber pads under speakers make it harder for it to slipCONS:-None to dateI've had these speakers since mid-July and I am very content. Before I had Edifier speakers which were hurting my head, then swapped them out for the Sennheiser HD 558 headphones which are fantastic but I wanted that bass feel for where it was needed for my games (RPG, racing, RTS and some shooters), movies and series. When I tried these, it was night and day. These speakers are loud but clear and crisp, as I was raising the volume the sound never felt distorted but I think my ears felt distorted! The bass level is kept at the mid level and it is enough, raising it doesn't negatively impact music and games, the bass doesn't make them feel unnatural, just gives car engines and effects more hmph. The speakers are hooked to my desktop and I have an aux cable running from the speakers to my monitor for the Xbox 360. Only thing is that I have to disconnect the aux cable when I'm not playing on the xbox or there will be an annoying tiny buzzing sound. Cables don't feel short, just enough for small to medium sized desks.Overall I am very satisfied and I am planning to leave these with my mom and brother and buy a second set for myself once I graduate.

Best upgrade ever! I'm not an audiophile, so to me these sound fantastic. If you can get them on sale like I did (seems that every few months these drop below $100 with free shipping) then the question of picking these speakers over a less expensive set leaves no doubt what so ever.Didn't realize this from the pictures, but the tweeters are the "THX" labels on the speakers. I just thought they were cosmetic only. So you do did great highs from these.Speakers are solidly built and have rubber pads on the bottom so they stay in place. My old 2.1 speakers were always getting knocked over. The volume and bass knobs are smooth and feel solid as well. Needless to say these are not cheaply built.I'm using them with my desktop, but these would also be a great low budget home theater setup. There is no remote, so as long as you don't mind manually adjusting the volume prior to starting you movie, the sound would outshine most of those 2.1 "sound bars".I was looking to get the Logitech Z523, but with the Z623's on sale, I figured the extra $20 would be worth it, and I wasn't wrong.

Not much more to add that hasn't already been said by most here. I have a good stereo system, but of late I've been listening to music mostly on my computer and it wasn't very convenient to hook it up to the stereo without a lot of rearranging or unwieldy wiring. Meanwhile I'd just been cheaping out using a basic $25 desktop computer set. After deciding it was time to upgrade I came across this system and based on the reviews and wattage I went with it. I should have had an idea (or at least looked at the specs) beforehand but I was a bit surprised by the size of the subwoofer--it's a full cubic foot. Others have mentioned the wire lengths, maybe for some figuring out where to put the subwoofer is why that's been a concern. In any case make sure you have a good space for it.Once I figured that part out and fired it up, I was very impressed. I've bought a fair amount of music since I switched to mostly playing it on my computer, and I'm hearing layers and dimensions I'd never heard before on my cheap system. Great depth and clarity of range from low through mid to high. This is obviously not a high end system, but for the price I definitely recommend it.

I purchased this to replace an aging sound system in my office at work. I lucked out and got it around the holidays for a steal at under $100. The sub was damaged in one corner during shipping, which I was upset about - but that doesn't affect the product review I am providing here since it is not a product issue. The system has booming bass most of the time, with the 8" sub under the desk and the two speakers on top. The real test was a few days ago when we had an open house at work. Let me tell you, the limits of this system were definitely tried out.... by the end of the night everybody was in my office blasting the music on the Z623 and having fun. Did it pass the test? Everybody who was there would say yes! There is one gripe t hat I have... and that is, when it gets volume is turned all the way up or almost all the way up, the sound gets "dirty" and bass is definitely too much for the speakers and the sub that it comes with. By turning down the bass a bit, you can take the sound system all the way to max volume and have a mini-party. Not bad for the price!

If I were to rate these speakers on my listening needs, I would give a 2.5 stars, but I'm giving 4 because I think they do the job that most people want them for. What I don't like is that at lower volume music listening, tonal qualities are very poor. I have to make equalizer adjustments for every different song to make it sound right. There are limitations to what you can do with frequency adjustments because of the built-in speaker crossovers. You cannot get decent mid-range or bass at lower levels without inaccurate booming from the sub woofer no matter how you tweak the levels. However, once you crank the volume a little to a level a bit too distracting for the work I like to get done with some background music, viola, the audio is great (well, this is relative - great for a computer speaker).Pros:-Great sound for a $100 speaker at mid to higher levels. Definitely more capable of filling the room with sound than any other computer speakers I've owned.-Input and headphone on right jack is super handy.-Construction: all components are pretty rugged and seem built to last.-Power, volume, and bass controls on the right speaker are fairly handy.-If you want loud, boomy bass, this does the job very well for a computer speaker (no, these aren't going to hit as hard as larger power-guzzling woofers, but they perform as nice as or better than many home theater woofers I've heard).Cons:-I think the satellites look ugly. The metal grills remind me of '80s boom boxes. Also, certifications don't impress me, so I'd really rather not be reminded every time that I look at the speaker that I probably paid an extra %15 just for Logitech to have these THX certified.-Ported sub woofer not appropriate for this set up. This is a preference, but since these speakers are more than capable of loud levels, I'd be willing to sacrifice some efficiency to have an enclosed woofer that is much more accurate and less.... redolent of a teenager's car system.-Games and video can sound very tinny if you don't do some adjustments on the software end when you switch from music. While these speakers are capable of sounding good, I have to do more adjustments every time I change media type to keep it from sounding bad.-Fixed speaker cable -- why do this? To increase the likelihood that we have to buy new speakers in a few years?-Sub woofer is large. For those who want the thump that this is capable of producing (very good for a computer speaker), this is probably necessary. I just don't want this. Conclusion: I was ready to pay the shipping to return the speakers the day I got them. I decided to give them a chance and I've gotten a little more used to them. I'm still very frustrated with some of the properties, but now that I have saved equalizer settings and know I have to open up my sound card's control panel every time I switch between music and videos or games, the sound is much more acceptable. I really just want quality sound for listening to my music at moderate levels while I'm doing work on my computer and these speakers really don't shine until you start to crank them. I tried to adjust my rating a bit higher assuming that many people probably want exactly what these do (and I'm happy I don't live in an apartment next to you).

As a warning..this will seem really common sense..but since I made the mistake I'm sure there is someone else as naive as I am.So as some background...Its been awhile...maybe 3-4 years since I listened to music outloud on proper speakers and not through headphones or something I knew was crummy like my laptop speakers. In between then and now I purchased a great car with a FABULOUS Bose surround sound system...7 speakers or something obscene for the size of my car. Listening to music in my car is pretty amazing...like being in an intimate concert venue. Without any exaggeration at all...I'd swear you can actually feel the music as if its something tangible. With that being said, somewhere along the way...I got a new standard for how speakers should sound and the bar is set pretty high. Folks were saying that this system is super great fills a big room, clean sound, good bass etc. I have a small studio so I really only need this thing to fill maybe 250 square feet of living space (excluding kitchen and all that where I really don't need it). I thought this would be a great product to listen to music in my studio with guests and had really expected it to sound similar to what I hear in my car or headphones. So far...hmmmm.....I think my expectations were just too high. Afterall, you get what you pay for. This is not surround sound...and its less than $150. I'm thinking that for the price its a really good product, but since I haven't listened to any other comparably priced speakers in years I'm not really sure. This is also going to seem common sense but I should also mention it makes a HUGE difference the quality of the audio source being played...I have Sirius in my car and also can stream it through my iphone. On my headphones I can't tell the difference in quality but through these speakers I can tell the internet stream is terrible in comparison with the stream that comes into my car (this also goes for some not so legally obtained audio files). Alternatively, if you play from a CD (or music otherwise legally purchased) it sounds a whole lot better. Some great pros...easy to set up and the inputs are great. Its as if it was made for my uses. It has an audio input for something like an iphone, mp3, computer and also a R/L input for something like your TV/DVD player so you can have it hooked up for both uses (can't comment yet on hooking up TV/DVD but my bet is that it will be better than my TV speakers...or at least I hope so!)I hope this helps people set some reasonable expectations for what these speakers can do.

First off, let me just comment on how obnoxiously LOUD these speakers are. I only turned up the volume knob only 15 degrees from its absolute lowest settings and couldn't stand the loudness. Most people won't mind, but for those who haven't destroyed their hearing in today's age the loudness will be off putting.Sound Quality: This is where a speaker system succeeds or fails as this is what it's all about. FAIL. PERIOD. The high's (treble; think not of screeching but of a guitar wailing on a high note) are not there at all !!! To add insult to injury, the high's apart from being nearly absent, are overshadowed by a bass that is SO MUDDY that listening to the opening bass line on Asian Kung Fu Generation's song "Mustang" on youtube was emotionally painful.YES, THE BASS IS THAT BAD. Think, cheap booming bass of that guy obnoxiously blasting his speakers in his fruity looking car he thinks looks hot.The mid range is also lacking and sounds so flat that the vocals of all songs I listened to sounded like they were being sung from the bottom of a giant bucket or in the bath tub.NOW I UNDERSTAND THESE AREN'T MEANT FOR MUSIC BUT FOR MOVIES AND GAMES, but when I popped in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and started charging my Ultimate Technique; the thundering sound that is heard when the move is fully charged sounded like Ryu (the character you play as) was charging it underwater and the sound produced was then passed through mud. Other sound effects sounded just as bad if not worse when played with games like Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4. Voices don't sound realistic and believable in movies coming from these speakers and ambient effects just don't sound good at all; guess that stems from the lackluster middle range and non-existent upper ranges.I have a pair of GE Ultrasonix 98903 2.1 Speaker System blow these out of the water with a bass that sounds relatively tighter and satellites that ACTUALLY HAVE THE MIDDLE AND UPPER RANGES and play the well for the low price they cost. Hell, even my CRT TV SPEAKERS BLOW THESE OUT OF THE WATER. Sad isn't it.The option to use "full range" drivers(the number of circly things ^_^) should have been scratched in favor of having a mid range driver/woofer and a tweeter driver the way the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Speakers have so as to at least have some chance of sounds faithfully to their creators vision (although in some cases, more drivers does NOT always mean better sound quality).Bottom Line: This speaker system only boasts the ability to punch you in the gut, shake your skull and break your windows with a horribly muddy, boomy and overpowering bass while sporting a RIDICULOUSLY flat sounding and overshadowed mid range and practically non-existent upper range.THX Certified. HAHA! Clearly, the standard for what can be considered high quality has fallen in recent times.

These are definitely not "high-end" speakers, however these are quite good for just 100 dollars. For the actual speakers themselves, they are OKAY. By okay I mean completely satisfactory (nothing amazing, nothing below average). They can also get pretty loud if that's how you like your music. The sub-woofer is where this set-up really shines. The sub-woofer is POWERFUL. In any moderate sized room, the walls will be rumbling, and the door will rattle at about 50 percent the overall volume with the bass turned up at 75 percent. Remember if you are going to turn the bass super high, start off with less volume to avoid damaging your speakers. I have had these for half a year now and they work just as well as when they got them. I am extremely happy with these. In my opinion, these are fantastic for the price they are sold at.

I bought this from Staples for only $99.99 with free shipping. It was a special buy for this week only and I'm happy I ordered when I did because they went out of stock the next day. The bass is wonderful and each satellite sounds great too. I purchased the Logitech z506 before this and returned it because most things ( Tv shows, songs of course, and a few of my DVD movies.) did not use 5.1 so it was only using 2 speakers and the sub-woofer out of the other 5. I then ordered this, the z623 and was very impressed. The z506's sub-woofer was a bit smaller (it's a 5 inch driver even though it says 10 up there) and couldn't handle many songs without sounding distorted while each of the 5 satellite's weren't very high quality and made everything sound dull. The z506 was just like having 5 of the same speaker and a mediocre sub-woofer while the z623 seems high quality with greatly sized satellite's and a huge sub woofer that makes everything sound amazing and even theater like!

I bought these speakers a week ago to replace my 10 year old Harmon Kardon Soundsticks, I was a HUGE lover of the soundsticks as they did me well, and they had been put through hell, I thought they were loud for the size, Bumped good etc. Finally the speakers started to buzz and pop so I did some research, Wanted more bass, considered soundstick III's but did more research, Almost purchased some M-audio speakers but these had the best reviews by far, LONGGG story short, The quality and amount of sound that comes from these is by FAR 10 times better than the harmon/kardons and I WILL be purchasing another set for my tv setup!!!! AMAZING. I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone who enjoys good quality sound at a great price without spending 1000's on a setup.
