There is nothing specifically wrong with this device, but for some reason Lexmark stupidly locks away functionality from the user behind a crazy and difficult barrier.Our office has owned several of these types of devices, and we have always set them up to make scans onto a network share. For every other one, this capability has been available right out of the box. This Lexmark is sold in a crippled state without that function. To enable the function, you must go to their website, download software, and then upload it to the device to turn on the scan to share function. Worse, the method to do this is not made obvious and is poorly documented. We only discovered it with lots of reading and research. Many would probably just give up and not know how to make it happen.Finally, even if you downland and enable this function from the website, it is crippled. The fully functio9naly "premium" version is only available by having to go to one of their distribution reps, and get them to download and forward you the proper code and license.Funny, this is the first product I ever bought that once I purchased it, I needed to get additional licenses for simple functions.If we had known about all the hassle it takes to get scan to network share on this device, we would have never bought it. There are plenty of other similar devices that just give you the functions without having to jump through the hoops. My advice is to buy similar device that is not a Lexmark.

The printer is excellent, but can't get it hooked up to wireless. Spent 3 1/2 hours on the phone and was told at the end of the phone call I had to get a new router, even though mine was only a few months old. I have been wanting to switch to Comcast anyway, so I had them come to the house and install the Internet and router. Still no luck. I don't think anyone can hook up to the wireless ( I Googled it) which is a bummer because that is one of the reasons I bought the thing.

When the printer prints, it provides good quality. However, the ink cartridges are very difficult to load and seem to not last for any reasonable duration. The printer has been used lightly and only by me for printing coupons, letters, a spreadsheet or two, no pictures. It just died. Needless to say for the price it didn't last long. Won't be buying another Lexmark and recommend you avoid as well. Too bad tech reviews don't address life expectancy-all of us would be better informed.

The caution note sent by the seller did not include anything for non-techies (like me) who needed a statement like that above to understand that it wouldn't work with our computer. I bought it mainly because we use this printer very infrequently (we have a very good small photo printer) so we don't need all the extras common to most printers today.

The biggest problem with this printer is that NOWHERE does it tell you, until you do some online investigating, that printing in BLACK ONLY also uses COLOR INK ~!!! And watch out, Not using the printer can also somehow magically use ink. I religiously set the printer to conserve the color ink and then press the button to print only black, not color. And yet this last 50 Plus pages used, the rest of my color ink, which was down to a quarter full each. Now the printer is useless even though I have half of a black cartridge I cannot print at all. Really, NOT AT ALL!! Oh by the way, while it is telling me I cant print in black only, I ran a test page that printed?!?! The ink heads have issues also and randomly stop printing properly and need to be reseated/cleaned. The printing Black and white, but using color ink while doing it, is basically false advertising. They say they need the colors to print tru black. aahhahahhehehhehehe what? make a black ink! Then that ink will print black.

I ORDERED THIS TO USE AS AN ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER AND HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE THE WEEK I HAD IT. IT WOULDN'T RECEIVE FAXES, IT JAMMED HALF THE TIME WHEN WE TRIED MAKING COPIES, AND IT TOOK 2 DAYS OF REINSTALLING DRIVERS FOR IT TO WORK AS A PRINTER. AFTER MUCH ANGUISH, AND OUR OFFICE TECH CONFIRMING CORRECT SET UP, I SENT THIS BACK TO AMAZON AND ORDERED A BROTHER ALL-IN-ONE THAT IS WORKING BEAUTIFULLY. AMAZON WAS GREAT WITH THE RETURN. THAT'S WHY I LOVE AMAZON, SO EASY TO DEAL WITH.

I've had this printer for about a year and as soon as I have the money, I will be getting something else, probably an Epson. Like another reviewer, I wish I could give it negative stars.The ink is very expensive and the printer requires way too much TLC to keep it going. I've had to replace the print heads once already after only 6 months of use. It wants to align itself every time I turn around, which takes up a lot of time not to mention ink. If you don't get the paper in just right, it'll jam and it skips paper while it's printing so you think you have the right number of copies only to find out the hard way that you don't. The so called automatic document feeder doesn't recognize that there's even anything there half the time and the scanner is pretty much useless.I had a Lexmark once in the past, which I never even got to use much because it was incompatible with the Windows operating system I had at the time. I don't remember if it was 98 or ME. Lexmark blamed Microsoft, Microsoft blamed Lexmark. I ended up junking the thing and getting an Epson, which I still have but wanted something new when I got my new desktop computer last year. None of them are built for a lifetime of use so I was looking at the Epson's again but the guy at the store convinced me to buy this one instead. It was on sale that weekend and they probably had quota to meet. It did set up pretty easily and it's really nice to have the Wi-Fi feature but after a year, I'm once again printer shopping. I print off about 30 copies each week of our church bulletin and this thing does not appear to be built to handle even that much let alone any office work I might want to do from home.I wish now I had stuck to my guns and got the Epson I was looking at for just a bit more money. I knew from experience this thing might be a piece of junk and it's proved me right.

This printer looks great on paper and prints nicely when you can get it to print or scan. I've got it hooked up via USB cable to a desktop computer and also use a laptop connected to our network via wifi. I can print all the time from my desktop computer. I can only scan about 50% of the time from my desktop computer. It doesn't matter whether I initiate the scan from the computer or the printer. Operations from the laptop are even more challenging. Forget about scanning, we've given up and just scan to a thumb drive and then transfer the thumb drive to the laptop. You can print from the laptop about 25% of the time and even then it takes multiple tries.

I purchased a Lexmark printer in this series a few months ago. it has had its share of problems operating wirelessly on a shared network between a (HP) PC and a new iMAC 27" desktop computer that I am learning to use. After the last technical assist yesterday, I am hoping that problem is behind me.However, at the end of this technical support session, we attempted to print a test page. I was stunned to find out that after the new software (for the PC) and FIRMWARE (for the printer) upgrades were installed, and the test page was being initialized to print, the printer didn't print. Instead, a message appeared on the printer's screen stating that the Black ink cartridge could not be authenticated. The same cartridge had just been replaced (with the proper cartridge purchased from Amazon) and had printed fine prior to my wireless connectivity problem. Fortunately, I did have an extra black Lexmark cartridge and the printer then printed the test page after the cartridge was installed.The technical support specialist finally stated that the printer no longer would work with any cartridge other than a genuine Lexmark one. I told her (the specialist) that the company policy was putting its own short term interests ahead of the customers welfare and she flatly replied "that was my opinion". At the time of my purchase, Lexmark neither stated nor implied that the printer would work with only Lexmark cartridges, although of course they recommended that they be used.This customer's opinion is now that I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER LEXMARK PRINTER AGAIN!!! :B003E1S2K2 Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 All-in-One Printer]

I own an Imac and subscribe to Consumer Reports. I narrowed down my list to a few then looked on Amazon and read the reviews. After digesting everything, I chose this printer. Set-up was easy. The only time I had a problem with the installation was when I misread the instructions about the fax setup but as soon as I called the help line it was straightened out. So far it works wonderfully. It is a big printer because it handles both legal and letter size for printing, copying, scanning, and faxing. So you need a good space.

This printer has given me trouble with the wireless connection ever since I bought it a little over 2 years ago. I've spent plenty of money on ink through Lexmark so I haven't seen huge ink savings. And recently it broke, jamming every time I try to print something. But since I didn't register the product in the first 90 days after I purchased it, Lexmark refuses to honor the warranty even though the receipt is here in Amazon and they could easily verify that I purchased it new. Instead they hid behind their cynical policy of requiring registration (in tiny print below the huge "5 Year Warranty" font). And to add insult to injury I recently purchased color ink cartridges from Lexmark which now will be totally useless to me. This is the last Lexmark printer I will ever buy. I bought this printer because of the great cost of black ink and all the features (especially the auto feed scanner), and promptly had to get Lexmark on the phone because it didn't print (it wouldn't grab the paper). After an hour, they decided to send me a "new" one when sending back mine. The "new" printer was obviously refurbished because of marring and wear and tear. The printer worked for a while, then the WIFI went kapoot for no known reason. Fine. Plug it in. Now it sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. After printing a document and queueing up another, it stops working, which requires pulling its plug, restarting the computer, etc. VERY TEMPERMENTAL! Now, when I'm off the warrantee of course, the auto feed scanner is misaligned somehow (the papers jam inside instead of being ejected) and requires me to sit there and place each sheet on the flatbed. This is not to mention the seemingly low supply of color and the occassional random blue streaks on the edges (sure, deepcleaning the head helped, but after 5 times--that's ridiculous!). Take my advise--save yourself some aggrevation. I love paying $5 for black carts., but the frustration far outweighs that. Never again, Lexmark.

Even when printing in black and white the printer uses color ink cartridges. They are VERY expensive and if you don't replace them the printer will refuse to print. I called Lexmark and their response was "that's just how the printer was designed." No wonder I got such a good deal on the printer. Wont be buying anything from Lexmark again.

I cannot believe how terrible this printer is. We bought it about 2 years ago. It has presented one problem after another. The print heads are constantly clogged, requiring a deep clean on a regular basis. This uses up quite a bit of ink each time. After a deep clean, the problems are still not resolved as there it prints horizontal lines of different shades of the color.That said, it works fine as a fax machine and scanner, but that's somewhat akin to, "...otherwise, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" If it could print, the copier function would be fine, too.

This is just a big head ache. The printhead error has no solution despite spending lots hours just to trouble shoot the problem, clean the printhead, re-install software, upgrade software...there is no solution. Please don't go thru same agony that I did, DON'T BUY THIS PRINTER.

Great printer, arrived on time and came in just as stated. Awesome price, great value. This printer is Super Awesome! There is an issue when it's left for a couple of days idle, you have to unplug it to have it restart. But if you use it everyday this is not an issue.

This Lexmark printer is one of the worst pieces of technology I've every owned. In the past I could return defective equipment. I was surprised to find that the return window was less than 30 days after I received the printer.After investing over $300 to have my tech set up and reset up the printer - we figured out the software is defective.I've purchased thousands and thousands of dollars in TVs, printers, cameras and other major equipment from Amazon. I will now look for a provider, like Costco, that allows me to return defective equipment.Hinton Dillard

I work at H & R Block and I must say that this printer is perfect for our needs (over tens of thousands of pages per year). This printer has performed perfectly for over five years. The only time this printer ever complains is when it's out of paper. This printer is a true workhorse. No, you will not be able to print photographs perfectly. But, yes, this printer WILL perform admirably for tens of thousands of pages of written text documents like tax returns.

I bought this one after trying a few (seemingly) cheaper substitutes that just didn't work. I have the Lexmark X2670 printer at home, and don't use it much, so my last cartridge of color ink seemed to just evaporate over time. Very frustrating, but not as much as buying other versions that just didn't fit right or wouldn't be recognized by the printer. At least this one fits properly and prints as needed. Will try to update again after I see how long this lasts.

Upon initial setup was disappointed to see there was an error message. Remark customer service was very helpful though and said I needed new printer cartridges and that they would send them right out. Well I received a whole new printer, this time without any error messages. It prints fast if on quick setting, is easy to use, and photo quality is good. Only drawback is that we had to take the old printer, repackaged, and drop it off at UPS. It was free of coarse but still...overall I'm happy with it so far. I've only had it for less than a month.

I too own a Lexmark 901. I have been using it for about 1 yr & the printhead failed approx 2 months ago. It started that there was a blue line that went across every sheet of paper that I printed. It then started leaving big blue spots on every sheet printed. I finally have to only print in black ink & even then the blue spots happen every 5-6 sheets of paper printed. I thought I got a bum machine & was going to order the 905. But since reading other reviews i think I will try another brand. I had an HP but ink is so expensive!!!!

I went with Lexmark for these reasons:1. Low black ink cost2. Great user interface on front panel3. Automatic Wireless Connectivity (works seamlessly)4. Innovative way to get replacement ink cartridges mailed to you as you need them. (For those process proles out there, its a true Kanban Card pull process)None of these great features means squat because the printheads clog up continually. I've purchased three replacement heads to solve this problem (no amount of deep cleaning or manual cleaning fixes the clogs), and now instead of purchasing a fourth print-head I am ditching this printer and going with HP.The bottom line, I have saved nothing and often can't print at all. Incredibly frustrating.LEXMARK, get your act together and upgrade your print head technology.

I've had nothing but trouble with this unit. After operating for a few days, the yellow cartridge went empty. After replacing it, I set up for printing black and white only for awhile. Now I can't print color because the new yellow cartridge isn't delivering ink. Communication with Lexmark is hopeless.

I purchased the Lexmark Pro 805 printer from an Office Supply store on March 18, 2011. After 9 months the printer displays a PRINTHEAD ERROR resulting in complete inoperability. Calling customer service was a complete waste of time because all they want you to do is a firmware upgrade which makes the printer ONLY recognize Lexmark Brand Ink (which I use). When this did not resolve the printhead error the customer service representative (who spoke terrible English) instructed me to clean the printhead and then reinstall it. The cleaning did not work either.I then mentioned the printer has a five year warranty and I would like another printhead. I gave her the serial number from the back of the printer and she informed me that my printer was not one that was having the printhead error issues. She then said I could purchase one for $29.95. I find this to be rediculous and unacceptable.According to the printer software I had only printed 1165 pages since the printer was installed. I had replaced all four of the ink cartriges once. For the price of the printer ($199) and the cost of the Lexmark Brand replacement ink ($50) I had a per page printing cost of just over .21 cents.I will NEVER purchase another Lexmark product and I have no problem telling everyone I know not to purchase anything with the Lexmark name brand.This is clearly a defective product and Lexmark refuses to honor their five year warranty. The marketing says this printer is one of the cheapest to operate ink wise. What they don't tell you is the printer will only work for a short amount of time.I know that every printer manufacturer has issues with printers, but I have never had a manufacturer refuse to correct the problem because "the serial number of your printer is not one that is having an issue."Do yourself a favor and don't purchase ANY Lexmark product.
