    I owned this printer for about two and a half years, and it is now going out with tomorrow's trash. I fell in love with the eye-catching look and fancy touch screen features of this printer. But the problems began not long after my purchase. I called customer service, which was a great experience, and I was promptly sent a new printhead and ink cartridges. That worked for a while but eventually I started to drain ink with frequent printhead cleanings. The black ink would get streaky or not come out at all. The low cost of black ink is nice, but not when you lose it to printhead cleanings. Wireless communication is spotty, so it was not uncommon for me to send a print job, close my document, and have nothing come out. So, I would have to unplug the printer, wait for a long boot-up process, reopen the document, and resend the print job to get it to work. Communication errors with my computer on scans were highly common. Evenutally it became more dependable. The document feeder worked infrequently for me and sometimes jammed my papers. Oh, the frustrations! I cannot recommend this printer. I just purchased an Epson Workforce, and I am hoping for a different experience.

      I had high hopes for this printer, never did I think I would be visualizing an Office Space-esque demise for this machine. But it's asking for it. First, don't think you can refill the ink cartridges. Oh, no. Not gonna happen. See, Lexmark puts a chip on the ink so the printer will know if you try. The software will then reject the cartridge, causing much frustration. And the ink isn't cheap. $30-45 each. And, folks, there is 4 of those sneaky little devils in there. Oh, and forget about generic ink, too. Second, the print head itself is faulty. It will work for awhile, then BAM! won't work at all. After a call to support, they know there is a problem, and they sent one out to me right away. I have to give it to the reps, they were really pleasant. Didn't help the project I needed to print out that night, unfortunately. Third, for some reason, all of a sudden, the paper stopped loading properly, then not at all. Then the paper jams started. Then after clearing the jam (which is difficult due to the design)the machine will think there is a jam, and refuses to print anything out. Fourth, is the period in which you think you got everything fixed, but it's not gonna last. Nope. Suddenly, there's an error message about "Can't communicate with Computer" or the ports stop functioning, and you have to set it up all over again. Kids, it's almost midnight, and I have to be in class in the morning, with another project due. So, you know when I am taking the time to warn you against this device, I really mean it. Run, run away from this printer. It will cause you nothing but torment.

        I have had problems with the printer head with this printer from day one. Finally after one year of hassles they replaced the printer but I still have problems with the ink cartridges when I buy them not being "recognized" by the printer. I'm told its a faulty ink cartridge. How can they sell a printer and printer cartridges that are always faulty, well 50% of them are faulty. They will replace them but it takes hours on the phone and wastes so much of my day and turns what should have been a productive day into a zero day of productivity.Do yourself a favor and buy a different model. This one is unreliable.It never would talk properly to my daughter's Mac either, so forget it if you're a Mac user.Plus they still haven't updated the printer driver for Windows 8 so I can only send to print if I'm connected using the USB cord so what used to be wireless once with my previous Windows is now unavailable. When I just checked again to see if they've updated the driver it says to buy a printer that is compatible with Win 8. So I'm guessing this one won't ever be updated.Don't buy it!

          It seems like it's impossible to get any ink jet printer without some kind of annoying issue these days, but the Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901, while not perfect, seems to have the best to offer. I bought this printer after giving up on a less than one year old HP Photosmart Premium. The HP had all the bells and whistles I was looking for, but had a host of annoying issues, the worst of which was how much ink it used and the cost of replacement cartridges. Therefore, Lexmark's offering that touts $4.99 replacement black ink cartridges had me intrigued.I use my Pro901 for home use and only use it a couple of times a week on average. I have mine configured by default to use the "Quick Print" and "Black ink only" options because that suits my printing quality needs a majority of the time. The quick print (draft) mode is excellent -- the black ink isn't overly faded and the text resolution is crisp and sharp. I also have 2-sided printing set to "On" by default to save paper.The only real problem I've experienced with this printer so far is that if I've left my PC on for a good while and go to print something, the printer preferences don't come up right away and when they do, the printing is never successful (at least I don't have the patience to wait long enough to find out). I would have to reboot the PC to get a response from the printer again. This issue has been on my Windows 7 64bit PC. I use the wireless feature of the printer, and this problem may only have been with that configuration, however, the latest updates from both Microsoft AND Lexmark seems to have resolved this issue and so far (fingers crossed) I can access the Lexmark printer preferences right away as I should.We have also printed out some color photos on ink jet photo paper. While I wouldn't rely on these ink jet photos for long term reliability or the highest quality, the quality of what I've printed so far has been more than satisfactory.There is a Cost-per-Page comparison chart available from HP that tries to convince you that owning the HP Officejet costs less over time, especially if you print a lot of color documents, but this chart is ridiculous. For one, if you're a company that prints a lot of color documents, you're probably not going to consider either the Lexmark Pro or HP Officejet series in the first place. For the rest of us who mostly print black ink documents, Lexmark is a clear winner in terms of overall cost of ownership, as long as they make these $4.99 black ink cartridges available. Their chart also doesn't consider the frustration so many people, even highly technical people, have to deal with when trying to print a simple document without some kind of 200MB driver issue or just plain poor performance when dealing with HP. We all know that the scam these days is to sell the printer at a low cost and reap in profits with overpriced ink cartridges (much like the razor blade industry scam). I, for one, would rather pay more up front for a high quality printer that JUST WORKS, and not have my bank account penalized with overpriced ink cartridges that also run dry too quickly.***2 Year Update 2012***-This printer has definitely not been perfect. It's had its moments where it went through the dreaded inkjet printer tantrum, i.e., stops responding to a new print request for no apparent reason, requiring a reboot of the PC or printer. That being said, they have improved the drivers and firmware a bit since I first purchased it, so these failure to connect/print issues are less frequent and the printer still performs its functions well.-You can still get inexpensive black ink cartridges.-I've never had to replace the printer or any parts yet.-I've thought about replacing it, but at this point I don't think any consumer-grade mutli-function printer is going to work much better. None of the printer manufacturers seem to be able to make a printer anymore that just works without a bunch of fuss or some kind of catch (outrageous ink costs being #1)

            This is my third Lexmark printer and my second All-In-One. The first such printer - Prestige 805 printed well and quietly, both text and photos. While opening it to change an ink cartridge, the scanner deck which sat on top of the cartridge and print head access deck flipped open and broke the plastic hinges supporting those decks. The printer still worked fine but scanning and copying functionality was lost so I replaced that printer with this one. This model is quite competent, noisier than the "805," doesn't deliver quite the same quality photos but the printed text is every bit as good as my Lexmark laser printer and the 805. The ink cartridges are larger and perhaps more economical than the 805. We'll see about that. It is a large form factor, taller, wider and longer than the 805 and quite a bit heavier. I requested technical assistance from Lexmark to enable remote printer monitoring functionality as I'd enjoyed with the 805 but while they were very courteous, they were unable to accomplish that fix. This failure stand in stark contrast to my prior interactions with their help desk when they were successful in assisting me in replacing a malfunctioning print head as well as linking my laser printer to my wifi network using a print server. As is perhaps evident from my past behavior, I would still recommend this printer and other Lexmark printers to others seeking either all-in-one printers or color laser printers.

              I purchased this printer in July of 2010, which means I have owned it for over two years now, and in those two years I have gone through 5 print heads. Each time the print head failed the ink cartridges were between half to full. I called Lexmark tech support five times and they verified what I had already knew, the print head failed. Lexmark Tech support was very kind and helpful, and every time I called with a problem they sent a new print head and new print cartridges, but it always seems that the print head failed when I required the printer the most. As of the writing of this product review another print head failed, so I am looking for another printer. The said fact is that I worked at Lexmark and I know they can make a better product than this over sized "plastic paper weight."So, to sum this review up, I give the printer one star and Lexmark tech support 5 stars, but I am not going to reflect the tech support rating in the overall rating of this product because the review is on the printer.My advice to all of you out there, avoid this printer, it is a waste of money. Unfortunately, after reading many of the customer reviews on the various printers (from the most notable printer manufacturers) there isn't too much out there to choose from in the reliable low cost printers arena. It seems the manufacturers of these printers are more concerned about the bottom line than producing good printer. Personally, I am fed up with all of the Chinese made junk, I think it's time to start bringing the engineering and production of goods back to the U.S. where quality control can be monitored much better.

                This product was put on the market before tested properly. Lexmark knew they had trouble and were quick to send me a new print-head when this unit would not work straight out of the box. After a few weeks of having to find ways to print by tricking the alarms about ink cartridges not being installed the Lexmark support tech asked me where the ID number was on the new print head they had sent me, I was informed the new print head they had sent me was from the wrong plant and again was defective. After owning this unit for about 3 months it was finally printing. Once I started using the printer I discovered that if I did not use it for more than a few days I would have to clean the print heads or the black in particular would be too light or just not there. Cleaning the heads every other time I used it meant having to change the ink cartridges way too often. Also it will not print in the Black only setting if the color ink is low. I used it for about 6 months then replaced. This printer was used at home and I only printed once a week or so which could have been the cause of needing to clean nearly every time I used, but that was not a problem with my old Cannon. Replaced with a basic laser

                  Although Lexmark makes great printers. There is one fundamental reason to stay completely away from their printers altogether;They have updated all their printer's firmwares to not allow users to install and use third party print cartridges. In other words, you must use the LEXMARK brand or else the printer will not work.In addition, there are two other problems regarding the cartridges;First, all cartridges must be seated and installed or else the printer will not work. Even if you only want to print in black you must have ALL (including all color) cartridges installed.Second, even if you do not use up all the ink in a cartridge the printer will set the chip on the cartridge as empty after so many prints. The printer does not actually detect the ink level. It simply counts the number of prints and after a certain number of prints it marks the cartridge as empty even though it is not... thus you will be forced to install a new one.So, you must use the VERY expensive LEXMARK brand and the printer will waste a portion of the cartridge driving up your ink costs astronomically.If you attempt to install a 3rd party cartridge the printer will not recognize it and will refuse to work.DO NOT waste your money on LEXMARK printers. LEXMARK thinks they have a right to monopolize your ink purchases and control your printer. Basically you are leasing the printer and the rent comes due every time they think you should install a new and very expensive LEXMARK brand ink cartridge.In addition, Lexmark will not provide you with any reasonable customer service on this or any related issue.Also, if you happen to obtain an older Lexmark printer that will accept 3rd party cartridges, the period firmware upgrades will deteriorate that feature so that your printer will only recognize Lexmark brand cartridges. Yes, they actually send out firmware updates to remove features from your printer to force you to spend more money.STAY AWAY FROM LEXMARK! You have been warned.--------=----------updated on 25JUN2011;Apparently Lexmark does not want to address the issue of their firmware updates disabling peoples printers and their attempts at forcing people to buy only Lexmark ink cartridges. I received this email from their corporation which does not address the issue at all. And I never had a problem with 3rd party cartridges until LEXMARK themselves decided to prevent the printer from using them via their spyware firmware update. Hey Lexmark! Let me know when you want to deal with your customer complaints instead of talking about other issues and playing 'pass the blame/pass the buck';Hi,Lexmark cannot take responsibility for the performance of any cartridge other than one manufactured by Lexmark. We have no way of knowing what a third party firm has done to the original cartridge or of their processes to produce their version of the 100 series cartridges. Some may work and some may not - even though they come from the same source.                     Interestingly, the package came with an invoice from Wal-Mart to the seller; the seller paid about $50 less than what he charged me on Amazon! The machine that arrived was defective and required replacement due to a bad document feeder. Ironically, I bought the Pro905 to replace a Prevail Pro705 with a bad feeder. The Pro705, which also required replacement when I first bought it, lasted less than 3 of its 5 years of warranty and caused me nothing but trouble in the interim. Bottom line: Lexmark just makes shoddy machines and doesn't care about what it puts in the stream of commerce. FYI: Lexmark machines are now programmed so that you cannot use non-Lexmark ink, so forget trying to save money. Also, the Pro905, although new to me, I now know, has been discontinued.UPDATE: The replacement also had a bad feeder and needed replacement. Understandably, Lexmark wants its defective machines back, but inexplicably, they won't (without an extended discussion with a supervisor) arrange for UPS to come to my house to pick them up. Changing my original rating from 2 stars to 1 star due to the total package of annoyance involved in this transaction.

                      It is 11:30 at night and I have already put in a 60 hour week. I came home with final work to do, and figured I would print out my presentation copies on my Pro901 tonight for my presentation in the morning. I have a full black ink cartridge, practically brand new, and get 12 pages printed and the printer stops and says "The printer will not print until the magenta cartridge is replaced" I sigh in frustration - I don't have a magenta cartridge, and I know there's nowhere around here that would be open selling one. Work is 40 minutes away, and I feel on the verge of screaming. I change my settings to "print on black ink only", but it STILL refuses to print. I unplug, reset, do everything but jerk it off its stand and drop kick it like a freakin' football, but nothing. I contact Lexmark tech support- online chat. Had a very nice chat with a very nice technical support person who was very apologetic and empathetic, but could only tell me that the printer will only print if you have ink in all the cartridges.I'm sitting here - screwed. I have two options, 1. drag my exhausted ass back to work to do the printouts, or 2. find a friend nearby who is still awake that may have an old HP large capacity printer that would do the job so much better.Thanks, Lexmark, I could live with the lousy wifi connectivity, and the $37 dollar color cartridges that yield approximately 15 8 1/2 X 11 color copies, but this is the last and final frustration. I am sad to say that I can't recommend Lexmark to anyone - either this is a design flaw, or a terribly nasty way of forcing you to buy more ink than you need.

                        I did extensive research and bought this printer to save on ink. It worked okay but then started to print only portions of each document. It turned out the printhead needed to be replaced (very shortly after purchase). I managed to get it taken care of through Lexmark, but it was a slow process and happened much too soon after purchase. I use this printer for work so the delay was difficult to deal with. I also print ONLY with black ink, but the color ink slowly disappeared and now I have constant error messages to order additional ink - even though I have never used it...? Most recently a small piece of the attachment between the cover you lift to scan/copy broke off and no one will repair or replace it. I was told, simply, to buy a new printer! So I have replaced this POS with a Canon ImageClass and I hope I am not on here in 6 months blasting that printer as well. Bottom line the printhead was a constant problem - you need to deep clean often (which wastes ink in my opinion) and I use this printer daily for a very small home office. If something breaks you are simply on your own. I would not recommend this printer.

                          Buyer beware! If you end up purchasing this printer you will be spending a TON of money on overpriced official ink by Lexmark. This printer has tracking software which can detect whether your ink cartridge is refilled or unofficial. This will make them unusable (this is done via the microchips found on the ink cartridges). The only other solution is to purchase the official ink from Lexmark, which is outrageously overpriced.Lexmark's response is that this is because generic inks are of lower quality than official inks. However, whenever I have used generic inks not only is the print quality identical, but they are MUCH cheaper and often filled with more ink than Lexmark offers! Lexmark also suggests joining their reward club or purchasing their larger ink cartridges, but despite these suggestions the ink still comes out way overpriced in comparison to the generic inks. Plus, the fact that you can't refill your own cartridges is very environmentally irresponsible. They may offer a refill program of their own, but most people would not be willing to go through the hassle of going directly through Lexmark and would prefer the options of having competition in this field.Also in regards to the tracking software, it is hardly ever completely accurate. This means that even if you have ink left in your cartridge (this includes official cartridges supplied by the company) if the tracking software incorrectly detects it as low or completely depleted, it will simply not allow you to print using that cartridge. This is even if the cartridge still has ink left in it!This printer also contains firmware which auto updates when connected to the internet, so who knows how restrictive Lexmark can make this printer in the future?Another feature that is irritating is that you need to have all of the separate ink cartridges full at once in order for the printer to work. I only have one color (magenta) empty yet the printer won't let me print AT ALL due to this. This is despite the fact that I merely want to print in black and white! Lexmark states that this is done so the printer heads don't become damaged; however, since the printer head is not directly using the magenta ink at this time this is a very questionable claim and makes me question their integrity.Overall, this is a very restrictive printer and Lexmark's questionable practices have soured my view on their products. I am very disappointed and unless you want Lexmark deciding what ink you can and can't use and when you can use the printer, I would recommend looking into another product.

                            Bought this Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 from Amazon for a really good price. Had gone through two Epson all-in-ones (no fax) over the past several years; they only lasted a year or so before the ink jets clogged. The Epsons sucked up ink and the OEM ink was outragiously expensive. Had gone through two Canon all-in-ones (also no fax) prior to the Epsons; one had clogged ink jets, the other had a failure in the copy/scanner, also not a bargain on ink usage and cost.Since the scanner function of the last Epson was still working, I existed for the last year with a cheap Canon printer for printing and my Epson scanner for copying/scanning. The multi-step process to copy and the lack of a fax ... plus the clutter of two machines on my little desktop lead me to put all those past short lived machines aside and buy the Lexmark. GOOD choice! so far. Being able to print wirelessly is the biggest benefit since my wife and I do all our email and document production on notebooks/netbooks sitting a multiple places around the house. The other big leap forward is the ability to fax rather than scan and attach to an email (but I will give praise to the Epson scanner for rendering beautiful scans for me to attach to emails).The Lexmark touch-screen control for print/copy/scan/fax is very easy and full of features ... it even reduces/enlarges right from the touch screen. The copier has a document feed which is real nice for mutiple page documents (didn't have that on the Canons or Epsons). All is working very well so far BUT...I finally ran out of ink. The good news is the OEM Black ink for the Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 is a fabulous $5. I was spending 4 to 5 times that for Epson and Canon Black cartridges ... even at CartridgeWorld. But the OEM color cartridges cannot be refilled and cost anywhere from $19 to $29 apiece depending where you buy them. I just bought my first set from Amazon in a combo pack and it works out to cost $15.50 per cartridge. ... that's not bad, but not as good as the CartridgeWorld price I was paying for color cartridges for the Epson or the Canon.2nd BUT, the Lexmark's print quality is not as good as either the Epson (that was good) or the Canons (even the cheap one). The black and white print quality is pretty good but the color quality and photo quality is average at best... and sending print wirelessly results in a big degradation in quality. The work around is to put your print and photos on a thumb drive and plug it directly into the printer ... or have the setup I have of a laptop that is usb wired to the Lexmark. I put my files on the laptop and print direct (not wirelessly).BOTTOM LINE: The Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 solved a lot of my problems of yor and has some really helpful features but at a price: less print quality, slightly higher color ink cost. Nevertheless, I am glad I bought it and would do it again based on the cost benefit ratio.

                              Let me first preface my review. I am looking specifically at what it can do and how well it does it in relation to it's competitors. My experience with printers is extensive. I research printer's capabilities before homing in on the one that I want and need. I own 5, purchase a new one for improved capabilities and quality for different custom marketing pieces. This one produces an awesome, "digital print quality" with automatic duplexing with print speed of 21 to 25 ppm. I just wish it would print tabloid. I have always been an Epson, HP and Minolta person. This is my first Lexmark. I use printers wirelessly and this one does that too. It has adequate RAM for large file printing but you can upgrade from the 128 to 512. I'm an intensive graphics user and so far I see no need to upgrade. This is IT!!!! This is the printer I've been looking for with the quality, speed and price point. You can find replacement cartridges online fairly reasonable but I've also found bottles of toner for this unit for $20 too if you want to refill yourself.Now on the installation side... If you are using a PC then, you're good. No problems setting up the network or setting up the printer with Wifi. However, I'm more of a MAC user with an Airport Extreme wireless router. I had to call tech support to get it setup because I am using LION which they don't have instructions for yet. What ultimately had to happen was I had to set it up on the network with my PC and then add it on my MAC. It was a pain. Lexmark's tech support was good on the first call and solved my wifi issue. On my second call, trying to update the firmware and get the printer to print envelopes as quick as it should, they failed miserably. I spent 2 hours on the phone with no solution!! I was even promised that I'd get a call back with a solution and they never did. I ended up figuring it out myself. Oh, and one last thing, there's a slight squeak in the printer when it prints. They couldn't resolve that but offered an exchange without cartridges. Not much of an option. They ultimately told me to take it back to where I bought it and let them know that tech support said there was an issue and to exchange it for another one. For me, I really don't believe that it is such a big issue to return it. I just wanted to check how they would handle it. A lot of laser's do this from time to time.With the tech support issue I still love this printer. For the money you can't go wrong. LEXMARK has a game changer against it's competition. They just need to get their tech issues for MAC wifi and drivers for LION figured out and they'll make everyone happy.I bought mine at Staples for about $219. It was on sale for $269 and then you can get $50 more off if you trade in an old printer. Now, I see some even lower on Amazon but make sure you don't get hosed on shipping. It is not light.

                                The big selling point for me with this printer was that it had $5 black ink cartridges, so that even when color inks ran out, no matter how broke I was, I could afford to do basic printing. It turns out you are required to have color ink in the color cartridges to print in only black ink. This totally ruins the primary advantage of buying the top-end Lexmark printer.Minus:- The scans this device produces are not bad too bad, except that only transfers them to you in JPEG format. That's a big minus.- The lid for the scanner is flimsy.- Boot time for the printer is frustratingly slow. Wake-up time from sleep mode isn't too bad though.- This printer does not make beautiful photo prints. They are not bad, but they are nothing special.Plus:- The copier functionality works well and has never given me any problems.- I had to trade in the print head with Lexmark less than a year into ownership. Lexmark made this process simple and painless. They overnighted the replacement parts, including new cartridges, and paid for postage to return the old print head and old cartridges. Way classy.- XL-sized cartridges seem to last a decent amount of time. I've had printers in the past that ate ink at ridiculous speed. This printer doesn't seem to do that; also, $40-50 for all 3 XL color cartridges isn't a terrible price either.- The duplexing feature is delightful when it works. It doesn't always work.

                                  I had just "junked" two HP printers and decided it was time to look around for another brand. A friend just bought a Lexmark Pro205 from Amazon; liked it, so decided to look for myself. I saw this printer for $20 more and decided to try it. As usual, Amazon had the best prices on the Net!Lexmark Prevail Pro705 Small Office Wireless 4-in-1I received the printer within 3 days. I opened the box, read the instructions and started to install according to their steps. I got to the part where you install the ink cartridges, opened the sealed packages and the top of the cyan cartridge looked like it had either been exposed to high heat or chemically melted. There was no way to remove the protective seal. So had to stop the installation for that evening and call Lexmarks' "hot-line".I called and the automated voice said there was a 25 minute wait, sure enough it was about that amount of time. When the rep answered he had a very thick accent and I could barely hear him. After a lengthy discussion and me having to repeat and phonetically spell out all my information, he informed me that someone would call the next day for a resolution to my problem.The next day I decided I couldn't wait, so went to a "big box" office supply store and bought a replacement cartridge, so I could finish the install and get the printer going. I had lots of backed up printing jobs I needed to get out to my customers. Later in the afternoon (second day), I received a call from Lexmark that I would be receiving a replacement cartridge within 1 to 2 days, so I guess I will have a spare.After I put in the new cartridge, I had to resume the install. The software had a selection to resume or correct the previous installation. I selected that option and it finished the install.I must say that Lexmarks' software is way more "user friendly" than HP and that isn't saying much. For anyone who has used HP, I think their software is about as "UN-user friendly" as you can get. I had a problem getting the software to recognize the memory stick from my Sony digital camera. They have this great troubleshooting software that "walks you" through each step to troubleshoot the problem. I followed the steps and voila...problem solved! I know HP supposedly has it to; but they use the Windows format (which is a joke) and most of their solutions are "way out in left field" and/or totally useless.I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a good Wi-Fi all-in-one printer. It's relatively quiet, has individual ink cartridges and is very user friendly. Their tech support is "so-so" at least in my experience. Too bad they can't keep their support base here, rather than "off-shoring" it.February 12, 2012 Update:I've had this printer for two years now and the hinge on the left side of the scanner cover broke. I contacted Lexmark support and they sent me out a completely new printer to replace my old one. They even prepaid the return of my old unit. When I went on-line to register the new machine; I got a new 5-Year Warranty. I was totally blown away by the prompt and courteous service and the new warranty! This time I contacted them on-line instead of by phone. In my earlier review, I gave their phone support a marginal grade. A friend of mine just had a recent encounter with their phone support and had a similar experience; although they resolved his issue to more than his satisfaction. I've never dealt with another manufacturer that did this and I am 66 years old...!! All I can say is: WOW!!!By The Way; this is the only problem I have had with the old unit. There is one tiny flaw that disappointed me with the new one. For some reason, when you load up the automatic document feeder with more than a couple of papers; when the unit starts to feed the papers, it sometimes picks up more than one at a time. The new (or refurbished; not sure which this is) machine does the same thing. I tried faxing 14 pages and it only picked up 11. Other than that, the unit works flawlessly and their "desktop interface" is very user friendly.February 17, 2012 Update:I had trouble with the printing quality shortly after removing the printhead and cartridges from the old printer and installing into the new/refurbished unit. I tried everything "in the book" before contacting Tech Support (via e-mail) again. They promptly wrote me back with some additional things to try; still no luck. I e-mailed them back and they responded with a request for all the model and serial numbers on my machine and printhead. After I responded back; this morning there was an e-mail back from them, letting me know that they had shipped out a new printhead and 4 new ink cartridges; express delivery, all free of charge. Once again I can't sing their praises high enough and can't stress too much to use their e-mail and not the telephone Tech Support; much quicker and better responses, plus there is a "paper trail" of all correspondences.I also started using the wireless funct

                                    First printer ever, I could not install printer/scanner software right out of the box with factory software. Finally got printer working but Scanner would not install, kept getting message "Device Not Found". Lexmark removed in and took 1-1/2 hours to get Scanner working. About a month later, scanner just quit working. Lexmark remoted in again.. technician couldn't figure it out and decided it needed a new "board" (Printer is not even two months old at this point). Lexmark came on site, installed board, then I had to get online with Lexmark tech support again to get Printer software reinstalled. Get offline with them and Scanner does not work. I finaly got online with tech support again a week ago -- 2-1/2 HOURS and technician tried same thing Over and Over and Over again and I finally told him I had things to do. This is the first Lexmark printer I have ever owned and the LAST I will ever own.

                                      I tried hard to like this printer!HERE'S A SUMMARY OF WHAT HAPPENED:The first printer gave an error message when installing the print head and was sent back to Amazon for a replacement. The second printer did the exact same thing and was sent back to Lexmark for a replacement after working with Lexmark phone support. The third printer would not print merged images correctly on my checks. After using Lexmark e-mail support, that issue was corrected (more or less). Then the printer stopped printed black after only 50 or so pages total through the printer (This was corrected with a deep printhead cleaning). The final nail in the coffin of the third printer was that it would not duplex print. I spent just under 3 hours with Lexmark chat support on this issue(even letting them remotely take control of my computer). In the end they wanted to send me another (my fourth) printer. I declined and asked that they refund my money (I was now outside of my 30 day Amazon window). I am currently waiting "4-6 weeks" to see if I get the refund from Lexmark.KEEP READING FOR ALL THE DETAILS:The first one I bought gave me error messages when installing the print head and printer cartridges. I could never get past the error messages. I called Lexmark customer support and the recording said it would be a 25 to 30 minute wait! I hung up and shipped the printer back to Amazon and requested a replacement. The new one came in today and I got the exact same errors during setup. I called Lexmark support again and this time waited for a support representative. After 20 or 30 minutes of doing what she said (which mostly included unplugging and replugging the power cord many times) she finally said I would have to wait for someone else to call me back in the next 24 hours to see if there was anything else I could try. At this point I'm going to wait for the call, but if they can't get it going, I'm just going to return the second printer to Amazon just as I did the first and buy something else.Update: Lexmark Customer Serviced called back about 22 hours later. They said they were calling to confirm my address so they could ship me a new printer. There was no mention of trying anything else to fix the printer first. I decided to go ahead and try for a third printer. I'm supposed to receive the new printer in two days.I have yet to connect any of the printers to my computer. This all happened on initial setup, so it has to be an issue with the printer itself...(unless I'm just much dumber than I think I am)Update: Well, third time seems to be the charm. Lexmark customer service sent me my third printer and it appears to have set up fine. The only problem I had setting up the printer was finding the MAC address. If you limit MAC addresses as part of your wi-fi security, you have to print off the setup page under Network Setup on the hard printer buttons to get the printer MAC address.Update: I was paying bills today and was trying to print my checks as usual using Versacheck 2004. The printer was randomly leaving off graphics. I reprinted the checks several times and each time different graphics were left off. The print preview always showed all the graphics in place and printing to an Acrobat file worked fine. Dare I try customer service???Update: I decided to try Lexmark's e-mail support this time and sent off an email explaining the problems I was having printing merged images. Their website says support via e-mail is supposed to happen within 24 hours. I sent my original e-mail on January 28 and received an automated confirmation e-mail that day. At exactly the same time 24 hours later, I received another automated email that said "We are working to assist you and address your e-mail as soon as possible". It is now February 4th (more than a week after I sent my support request) and I have yet to receive any additional e-mails from Lexmark Support.Update: I received a response from Lexmark e-mail support on February 8 (after 12 days). I am implementing their recommendation of changing the spool format setting from LEMF to NTEMF 1.008.Update: I paid bills today for the first time since changing the spool format as stated above. The graphics on all checks printed correctly, however, the black ink appeared to run out while printing the last page. This was odd as I have printed less than 50 pages on this machine. I ran a deep clean on the printhead and the printer started working correctly again. I am very surprised that a virtually new machine needed the heads cleaned. I hope this isn't a regular occurrence.Also, the printer is occasionally spitting out a blank page after a page has printed. It seems to happen when there is text near the bottom of the printed page. In some instances the printer doesn't print the very bottom portion of the bottom line.Update: I tried to print a three page document on the printer and it was printing page 1 then page 3 then page 2 and then a blank page, each on a separate sheet.                                         I've had this printer for a little over a year. I print, scan, fax and copy with it from both Windows and Mac OS X over a wireless network.I really like being able to get black inkjet cartridges fairly cheap since my wife prints a lot of documents and it has worked without too many troubles over my wireless network.Unfortunately the crappy construction of the hinges on the scanner lid make this printer problematic and I would recommend looking elsewhere. The left hinge broke and I had to remove what was left of the bottom half of the hinge to get the lid to close all the way to use the document feeder without it jamming. Apparently this is a common problem with the Pro901. There is a video on you tube that shows you how to remove the busted hinge bottom so you can use the sheet feeder again. Lexmark does not sell hinge repair parts so you can't fix the cheesy hinge when it breaks.For what it's worth this has been my second Lexmark printer (the first was a X7675) that has had breaking hinge problems. My next printer will definitely be something other than a Lexmark.

                                          I would have rated ZERO stars if it were possible.I bought this printer about 2 years ago and it has been nothing but a headache. I had to have Lexmark send me a new printhead the first week of use, as it kept drawing huge swaths of cyan across printer jobs. It's true the printer cartridges are the cheapest around, but they also run out the quickest, and I have had several fail. The print quality is only fair. The printer cover never quite aligned correctly with the base, and a few months ago, as I was trying to get it to align during a scan, the left hinge broke. I would be willing to say I was responsible if not for all the other users complaining of very same issue. Finally, I replace a black cartridge tonight, and now the printhead is not communicating with the printer. It will cost me $60 for an new printhead. Not going to happen.I will never purchase another Lexmark device again. The only way I could recommend this product to someone else is for use as a boat anchor, and only if they didn't have to pay for it.

                                            I'm in Costa Rica so my printer model is Pro709 but it looks to be the same as this one. In the past I've always had to make compromises when choosing a printer -- paper feed vs. flatbed scanner; high ink costs vs. medium ink costs but a featureless printer; two-sided printing vs. a lot more money in my pocket. I'm in love with this thing because I don't feel I had to make any compromises. That said, here's my list of Pros and Cons:Pros: inexpensive blank ink cartridges - the 105XL cartridges cost about $7 a piece (in Costa Rica) compared to the $36 I was paying with my previous Lexmark which was cheap compared to my previous Dell. I'm a Math teacher. Math pages tend to have a lot of white space. I've been able to print around 600 double-sided pages with one XL cartridge. The cost of photocopying would be much higher. jam free easy two-sided printing - I haven't had a jam yet and I've printed at least 5 reams of paper you can even easily copy one-sided documents to two-sided. You put it in two-sided mode and then it asks you if you want to copy another page printed pages whether printed single or double-sided come out flat, not bent like in many laser printers 50-page paper feed, finally copying documents is easy in an affordable printer that includes a flatbed scanner flatbed scanner that copies to the edge - no 1/4 inch border left unprinted like some I've had when ink is low you can continue to print a lot more pagesCons: color cartridges aren't cheap and even the XL's don't last all that long it's too easy to use the color ink accidentally - printing what look like gray scale pages uses the color ink cartridges unless specifically told not to because of the above statement, every time I print I have to remember to go into the properties and tell it to use blank ink only. the printer is kind of noisy, especially when double-sided printing, it actually sounds like it could break at any minute - but so far it hasn't using a highlighter on the printed text even days after printing smears the text - not sure if this is a printer problem or a highlighter problem. I'm having trouble setting up the Wifi printing on Windows 7 but I suspect it is more of a Windows 7 problem than a printer problem

                                              11-26-2012 Update: Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 All-in-One Printer is NOT compatible with Windows 8. Only some function accessible using hardwired USB connection. There are no drivers for this machine and Windows 8 insists that it is INCOMPATIBLE. This machine has NEVER been a suitable printer and I hate to trash it, but I will soon when I finish using all my ink supply. GAD...don't even think of not using LEXMARK ink. It hardly works with LEXMARK ink, let alone try any other brand. I would give it a MINUS 5 STARS, if there was such.Interestingly my Lexmark Optra E312L laser printer is still working like a champ; even with Windows 8 using USB. No problems for 13 years now, but then I don't use it heavily.6-1-2012. I purchased the Lexmark Pro901 because I've had good success with a prior Lexmark printer. I have a Lexmark Optra E312L laser printer that's 12 years old and still works great with never a failure. The Pro901, however, has been troublesome for the six months I have had it. The machine and printhead have both been replaced by Lexmark, although I believe only the printhead was failing, but they could not diagnose that. Installation of the software has been a total nuisance and I have had to do it 15 times over the six months, as some features just quit working and reinstall is the only way to get them back operational. I still can't get downloads from Lexmark site and multiple calls to the Technical support have not helped. I'll keep tring to resolve the matter, as I've got 30 years of computer experience and can usually figure it out. When the machine works right, the results are great, but the "when" is problematic. I've spent many hours "fixing" this machine so it works. The replacement is still only partially operational. The Lexmark Tech support has been very willing to help but since they seem to be in the Phillipines, communications are very limited, even with their "remote" login to try and diagnose the machine. Also, the ink cartridges seem to fail frequently. I have yet to finish a set of ink cartridges without them failing. This is getting expensive. Sorry, Lexmark, but your new technology "sucks". Great concept - poor performance.

                                                I purchased this printer from Newegg in June 2010. Since then I purchased the additional 550 page drawer. We currently use the 250 page drawer for legal size paper and the 550 page for letter size paper. It automatically chooses which tray to use for printing which makes our lives easier. The panel interface can be cumbersome at time and I find it easier to just log into the web interface for a quick settings change. The printer is relatively quiet. I usually only notice it printing if im standing in the general vicinity of it. I have recommended it to several people.The network scanning worked fine on my desktop till we started adding more PCs to the network. We now just use Scan to Email. We have not tried any of the other scanning options. The only problem with the Scan to Email is our email server requires SSL which this printer does not support. So we have to use another email provider to send emails.Printing is pretty fast in general. Occasionally we have to shut the printer off and back on for it "flush" itself. But that may be every 3 months or so. Duplex printing speed leaves a lot to be desired. it will go from ~30 pages a minute single sided to maybe 8. The laser cartridges we only buy the 9k cartridges and usually get anywhere from 7k pages to 10k pages depending on what we print. We currently have about 40,000 pages through this machine. It shows no sign on backing down.I've only been able to use the fax a couple of times, but been unsuccessful at that. I can't blame the printer though as I only have VOIP for land line service which is notoriously bad for faxing.

                                                  Hi,I brought this printer about a week and half ago. I brought it because my client had one and it was simple and I loved the print quality when I was over there. Overall this is a fine printer. For me it's fast enough (it's a lot faster than my old brother 655cw), The quality of the prints are great if it's comming from a memory card or from a computer. Besides the ink (the black at least) being the least expensive the interface is so easy to use and it seems very responsive which was the thing that sold me.Now the bad. I'm a critic when I buy somthing it better be perfect. If it's not perfect I will find out and you will here about it. One thing that turned me off very much was the fact if you decide you want to print a photo from a memory card or from the computer it will print in 8X10 mode and the on 8.5 X 11 paper and so the print will not be centered with a even border. However it will print borderless and the print quality is execllent. Another turn off is when you copy a photo you can see some grain and the colors are not separated that well but at the same time it's not horrable. (it's a photocopy) For example if you have a yellow ad that surounds a black keyboard a little of the yellow get's into the keyboard. In the store when I tested the printer the blacks were not processing well at all however when I got home to mine it was good. I think there was a firmware update that might of helped with that.In the store I tested it against a Canon mx870 The print quality of canon printer was better. The blacks were darker and the color sepration was better, but if you put both pictures side by side you would have to really look for the differrnece. I brought that printer home but decided to return the canon (even though the canon was clearly a better print quality printer, but it was slow, and for each thing to be done for example copy or memory card there were a few more steps were needed to do and if they were not done right you were stuck it would stop me from proceeding by a doublle beep until I figured out what I had to push. there was also a small screen. The screen on the lexmark was a lot bigger and the user interface was so much easier.I also have a samsung ML-2010 which is a laser. The text the lexmark pro 901 has an awsum text print. I can't tell the difference between that printer in text compaired to my laser. I tooked at the text very closely I didn't see any jaggerd lines or anything it was great.Overall I really like the printer. As a profectionist I would like to see this printer print an even border on an 8.5 X 11 picture. And yes I would love it to have as sharp print quality when photo copying as the canon. But this is a business printer. It's cheap on Black ink thats somthing like $5.00. I just brought color ink for $43.99 on amazon. but it prints 600 pages. I really love the user interface, I like the build quality, ( that beat the canon) the faxing and coping regular text is surpurb. The print quality comming from a memory card or the computer is excellent. Lexmark has a 5 year warrenty. (But let me ask you who keeps things around for 5 years? LOL) To be perfectly honest if you photo copy a color picture against the canon it still looks good, and unless you are looking at every pixel like I am I think you will be satisifed it's still a good picture. The thing that really bothers me is the border thing I mentioned above.Are there better quality printers out there sure thing. But nothing beats the easy and efficienty and the ink price of this one. To be perfectly honest the print quality of this printer is awsum too all I'm being a little critical about is a photocopy of a photograph which most people don't do.So yes I recomend this printer.
