I'll keep this short. We bought this printer almost a year ago. I didn't want to buy another Lexmark, but I was attracted to the idea of paying a little more for a printer and saving money on the ink.The printer was great during the first few months. The first major problem we had was that it stopped printing yellow. I ran it through numerous cleaning cycles and replaced the yellow cartridge. Nothing worked. Finally, I contacted Lexmark. The man I spoke to was helpful and determined it was a bad print head. They sent us a new print head and print cartridges for free with pre-paid packaging to return the defective ones.We started having a lot of problem with the printer waking up from sleep mode. I'd say about 90% of the time, we now have to reboot (plug and unplug) the printer before using it. Worried that it was due to the congested WiFi in our building, I switched to a wired network connection. However, I still have the same problem. My wife used the scanner a lot for work. One evening she opened the lid and two pieces of plastic feel off the back and the scanner lid would no longer stay open. I dug out the pieces of plastic and realized they were clips that were necessary for the scanner lid hinges to work properly. They snapped off the body so there was no way to replace them or glue them back on that I saw. The only way to use the feeder tray on top is to now hold down very, very hard on it (back where the hinges are) while it feeds the documents.Mixed in to all of this was numerous times I just couldn't get the printer to print what I was sending without "messing around with it" for five to ten minutes. Rebooting, re installing drivers, checking cartridges, etc. I'm basically just waiting to replace the printer at this point. I'm done with Lexmark based on the three previous Lexmarks that I owned.

Here is the tech online screen from Lexmark. They will block your printer from working once it runs out of ink until you buy new ink form them. They "hid" this in the software agreement -- and you will not be able to print a thing. Be warned.Buy another band. What kind of a company would do such a thing?Mary Bailey ] I bought this product in good faith. It has been nothing but trash.[Mary Bailey ] Your already sent me a new printhead -- and that was when I had not even had it a month![Mary Bailey ] It was out of black. I bought black and put it in.[Adrian] It's in the User's Agreement with the printer that you use Lexmark cartridges only.[Mary Bailey ] I do not want to order from you[Mary Bailey ] Have you heard of stores that sell cartridges?[Adrian] It is stated that if you do not agree to the terms then you can return the printer back to the store where you purchased it from.[Mary Bailey ] I bought it online for Christmas.[Adrian] Our printer was designed to work properly with our cartridges only.[Mary Bailey ] You mean if I do not buy online, I cannot use my own printer. Staples, Office Max, etc. all carry Lexmark[Adrian] Lexmark cartridges can be bought from those stores you mentioned, Mary. As long as they are genuine Lexmark cartridges.[Adrian] The cartridges don't have to be bought online.[Mary Bailey ] Okay, I never signed such an agreement and never was I told I could not go to Staples or a company of my choice and buy print cartridges. [Mary Bailey ] This is an outrage[Adrian] When you install the software in the computer, Mary, the licence agreement is there. You have an Agree button to click on to continue installing the printer software.[Mary Bailey ] Then why does that purachae cartriges signe keep coming up? [Adrian] Also the agreement is on the cartridge box and also on the printer box.[Mary Bailey ] I have to buy from you online or I cannot use my printer. How can you block my own computer form working until I buy from you?

Every time I try to print something, "the duplex is not installed properly", meaning that I have to beat the printer senseless until it finally spits out what I want. On top of this, when the colored ink runs out, it refuses to print in black-and-white until I buy more color ink. Every time I use this printer I end up violently beating something, whether it's the side of the printer or just my head against the desk. The only positive aspect of having this printer is that my antics while fighting with it amuse my roommate and make for good nighttime entertainment. All in all, a terrible piece of machinery.

My HP crapped out in the middle of my taxes, so, I ran to Staples for a printer. I found this printer being sold for $40 as a demo. I figured... what the heck... I'll give it a shot. Boy, did I hit the jackpot! This is a great printer. Quality is good; speed is good; all-around good.My problem is with the software. It's just not as intuitive as HP's and in order to change some settings (like the fax number), you have to physically connect with the printer using a USB. Pain because this printer is heavy... so... I just keep the USB plugged in the back and connect it up to my computer when necessary.I'd have paid $300 for this printer.

If I could give this product ZERO stars I would! It worked well at first (just long enough for me to be unable to return it to the store I purchased it from, which was not Amazon), but it used ink way too fast. I could not afford to use the printer with OEM ink, which is very expensive, so I started purchasing generic ink. That worked well until I updated the driver (during one of MANY necessary re-installs) to get it to work. The updated driver made it so that I could not use generic ink! A company that sells generic ink (eventually) came out with a compatible cartridge, so I started using it again. But, it has been a source of stress and regret almost since the day I bought it. It rarely works wirelessly, so I often have to hook up a cable. Regardless of whether I use wireless or cable, it drops offline after almost every single print job necessitating that I remove the printer from my computer's devices and then re-install it to my computer. A few weeks ago, it started printing poorly even though it had plenty of ink and I had cleaned the printhead. A few days ago, it stopped printing and indicated that the magenta ink was low. It wasn't. I replaced the magenta ink and it still didn't work. Today, I carefully moved it to an easier-to-access location so that I could try to get it to work. When I opened the cover to access the ink, something in the back broke and it opened too far backward. Now it no longer closes properly. PLUS, it says I need a new printhead. I searched online and I cannot find one to purchase, even if I really wanted it. But, I don't. I was lured by this printer's great features and a sale price, but IS NOT WORTH IT!

I've had three different lexmark all-in-one printers over the last 15 years and can say that they have done nothing but improve there products. I've been using this particular model for about 3 years and have not had a problem with it from day one, Easy setup on multiple computers two netbooks, five laptops three desktops a phone and a tablet plus a few friends laptops, even after losing the cd's that came with the printer the lexmark website is easy to use and download software and drivers. In fact I liked it so much I purchased the same one for my mom because of it's simplicity, fairly compact size and multiple functions, on the other hand it is kind of loud when compared to my wife's hp that was three times the price and is only a year old but print quality is very good and not just for the price I mean overall just a really good printer. I've had many brands of printers from Kodak Samsung hp Epson have to say I like lexmark and hp the most lexmark is just my preference. I still have and use my first lexmark all-in-one the only thing wrong with it is the fax modem from a power surge.

The ONLY positive aspect of the Platinum Pro905 is that the ink cartridges do not cost much money. The printer is terrible. There are streaks throughout any document you print. The whole thing is (IMO)badly designed. For example, you can't print a document - even a 10-page one - and go outside the office, because the printer gets clogged after a few pages. (This is true for faxes as well). When you fax a document, it routinely misfeeds so that you have to take the printer apart to untangle the paper. This can happen with a ONE-PAGE fax.Truly, this is one model - and frankly, one brand - I shall not buy again.

I purchased this printer principally because I wanted an all in one with fax capability. Another, at least in my opinion, critical feature is the independent ink color cartridges. I never run out of all three colors simultaneously. It is a waste to have to replace them all because one color ran out. The wireless was a very nice feature. When I received it, I was even more and pleasantly surprised. It arrived in perfect shape, well packaged for shipping. The installation was foolproof. The included CD took you through it step by step, even the wireless setup. Just do what it says and you are good to go.The next great feature, which I didn't see advertised, was the automatic document feeder. I don't believe in saving paper. So I scan all of my receipts, bills, etc. into the computer. Plus I do wood working. I scan all the good project plans from several magazines. That way the plan is there and easily located when I am ready to do the job. It beats filing tons of project plans/articles. And I don't have to worry about messing up the plan. If I want to make another of the same thing, I just print another copy of the plan.Next is the printing feature. Two sided printing is great. Paper is expensive. Plus you can set it up for default color or Black to save ink cost. The Eco feature is another cost saving. While I can't quantify the savings, it does partially power down when not in use. The front panel power switch quickly fires it up when you want to use it. But that is only required when you want to manually copy/scan/fax/photoprint something from the front panel. Computer communications automatically reenables it.Then there is the software. You don't need anything special to print or fax. It comes with some nice features for scanning. The launcher gives you the capability to scan photos to jpg, documents to pdf, direct to email, and even an OCR capability which creates an rtf.For $85 this printer is an unbelievable deal.

We bought ours in Jan 2011.Yes, the wireless is questionable...but I'm not concerned about that.Yes, the tray is a bit flimsy and I will tell you....be careful with it...it does break as ours did which rendered the ADF unusable BUT..after running all the troubleshooting steps I contacted Lexmark and after confirming that I can not get my ADF working, they are replacing the printer and it will be here in 3 to 5 days since it has a 5 year warranty. Its been very handy for faxing/scanning/printing and copying so we are happy!

I know that Lexmark printers are very good. I had one for years until I just wore it out. But the one I ordered was a refurb and it onlyu worked for a day and then began to print blotches and then would not print at all due to the printer head having a problem that I could not correct. The seller is not responding and I would like my money back. I am not going to spend $37.00 to ship back a product that should not have been sold in the first place. I would like amazon to ensure that I get my money back. I have tried to contact the seller four times no response.

We purchased the Lexmark Pro905 for our small home based business. Our HP printer went out, and the promise of lower ink cost with the Lexmark prompted us to make this our next printer. .The original Pro905 printer we received had to be replaced. It was not interfacing properly. We have never been able to get the 2nd paper drawer to function. The machine sits idle for days. When I want to use it, I have to unplug and then replug it in to "wake" it up.My real concern tho is the ink replacement. We are replacing the LX cartridges about every 6 weeks. So not only is the quality of the machine sub-standard, but we're going thru the ink like water. And those cartridges are no where near the $4.99 as advertised. I am not printing near as much as I used to, so why am I replacing the ink so often? We will not be purchasing an other Lexmark product! I'm thinking in the long run, spend the money on a real "work horse" all in one machine, not a Lexmark.

I love this printer. Fast printing, downloads items from the scanner to the computer as a PDF document. Great print quality. Nice features. Why a four and not five star? It was difficult to set up. I was able to do the basic setup, then my son, who is very tech savvy, was able to take it to the next level but even he couldn't get the printer to work off of the WiFI. Finally he called tech help and they were able to complete the setup. I love being able to print from my iPad now. I finally changed the black ink today, so easy to do.

Wireless connectivity has been particularly thorny, working, and then not working.Ink cartridges, with 2 expensive options, ARE SINGLE USE, NOT LEGALLY ABLE TO BE REFILLED.I just returned a purchased cartridge to AMAZON because it was not made clear that what I'd purchased was only one use, legally.I have to believe that reputable ink refillers will not refill these types of cartridges.

In our business over the last 20 years we have gone through a number of printers. Some good and some well not so good. We now have owned three of the Lexmark Pro902 series inkjet printers and each one has been a dissapointment. The first printer lasted less than a week,(we were able to return it to Staples) the second and third printers (we owned two at one time) both failed on the same day for the same reason - PRINTHEAD! Yep, both of our printers died after 18 months because of bad printheads and both printers printed less than a ream of paper each (low use). After lots of wasted ink, deep cleaning cycles, printhead alignments and wasted ink cartridges that somehow were empty after not printing an ounce of ink; no luck! Tried to work through the Lexmark website for printer parts and that is a disaster. We have finally moved on to Canon.

I received this product late on a Monday, only to discover that it was defective out-of-the-box; gray print with unfused toner on the paper edges and spilling toner inside of the machine. A Tuesday call to Lexmark customer support yielded a diagnosis of a "bad black imaging kit".; with a new kit and replacement toner (over half had been wasted) to be shipped via next-day air. I wasn't happy, but I was satisfied with Lexmark's response. When I didn't get a tracking number for the parts, I called during the late morning on Wednesday only to be told that the toner had shipped but that the imaging kit was on backorder for at least a week. In frustration, I called Amazon.Amazon customer service was GREAT. They immediately overnight-shipped a replacement printer and generated a return authorization for the defective unit. I shipped the "bad" printer (at Amazon expense) on Wednesday afternoon and received the new and properly working printer before noon on Thursday. The printer produces sharp text and accurate (though somewhat oversaturated) colors. It's quiet, has a great paper capacity, and works quickly. On the downside, the menu system is a bit cryptic and clunky. A larger and more informative screen would be appreciated. The printer immediately showed up on my wireless network and prints wirelessly from both a Mac and a PC laptop as well as from the desktop PC via USB connection.Given my frustrating initial experience I'm a bit concerned about reliability in the long-term. I did appreciate Lexmark's attempts, but the delay in shipping parts was too much. Furthermore, failure to automatically provide a tracking number or inform me of the backorder situation is unacceptable. (When repackaging the defective printer, I discovered a nylon gear in the bottom of the plastic bag that surrounded the unit; doubtless the actual source of the problem that would cause further delay as I awaited a service call.)I can recommend the unit for moderate volume printing with the caveat that the recipient check the unit immediately upon arrival and contact Amazon FIRST if it's defective.

I bought this printer because I got tired of replacing HP's over-priced, short-lived cartridges. As a writer, I print text mainly in black-&-white.The idea of a $5 B&W ink cartridge that prints 500 pages was hard to believe, but it's true (though I think some newer versions of the Pinnacle Promay not have this option). I also sell on Ebay & the scanner is terrific--great software, great images. And it's fine for my purposes when printing photos.I've had no problems, including setting it up for wireless use. Maybe I'm just lucky--I know this printer gets very mixed reviews. But it has worked out perfectly for me, for a year & a half. One irritating small-print deception keeps me from giving this 5 stars. The box & literature boast an extended 5-year warranty. But you lose the 5-year warranty if you fail to register the printerwith Lexmark within 30 days! I phoned & checked & it's true. And shamelessly deceptive (since that caveat is literally in the smallestof print.) Take that into consideration if you anticipate heavy office use.

I was disappointed a little in that it has one tray, thought it had two(second area for paper is not a tray but side open panel area. Also that it had built in scanner and would be listed on display panel as an option and found nothing with paper about it until I called Lexmark. U have to have them download software to access scanning. I did it it works great. Looking forward to using the printer and all of its functions..,,Very easy set up and like the fact I paid only about 40% off list.

This is my second Lexmark S405 printer. This first one had to be replaced as soon as I set it up as it was making a horrible "clicking" sound that would not stop. Lexmark was great about sending a replacement. I don't use the printer alot but it would be nice if it would work when I need to use it. If the printer isn't used within a few days, the black ink dries up and like other users I have to do a "clean printhead" which uses a ton of my color ink. Sometimes this doesn't even work and sometimes the only fix is to completely replace the black cartridge which is getting expensive.

Despite the extremely high rating of this printer in the 2012 Consumer Reports Buyers Guide, it is clearly NOT a best-buy. I spent 3 days trying to get this printer working properly as advertised. I could never get the wifi working - via Mac or PC USB (as required). Giving up on wireless, I focused on wired networking which also had major problems; with firewalls completely disabled even though they were configured properly, the scanning software would never work with the included TWAIN drivers, thus limiting me to only JPG scans per page. This printer has gone back in the box and an RMA requested less than a week after having it delivered. I had high hopes for a great product - the hardware looks excellent, but the software execution is so excruciatingly poor that I have to give this one star. I would give it zero stars if Amazon allowed it.Save your money and buy something else. ANYTHING else.

I bought this toner for my Lexmark E120 but did not work. The printer would not recognize it so I return it an exchanged it for another one. The second one did not work either. When I put the toner in, the red light flashes and would not work but when I put my old toner back, it would turn green and work. Somehow, it does not recognize the new toner. My old toner has 1208SL on it, the new one says 12015 SA. I don't know it that has to do with it.I'm very disappointed that twice did not work and now my return period expired already. So I'm stock with something that does not work for me. :-(

Within about six months of buying this all-in-one and after installing the first set of genuine Lexmark color ink replacement cartridges, I began having problems printing acceptable color photos. After repeated cleanings, including deep cleaning, the printer still produced streaky test pages, especially from the cyan and yellow cartridges. In the process, I exhausted the entire ink supply. I then started buying cheaper, compatible ink. Suddenly, the problem resolved itself, only soon to reappear with the same symptoms and results. By the time I finally contacted Lexmark support last November, I had gone through several sets of color ink cartridges without being able to solve the problem once and for all. Lexmark support advised me to remove, clean and replace the print head, not exactly an easy self-help task. But, that too, failed. You may wonder why I kept this machine this long; well, only because I could continue to print text without problems, and that generally constitutes the bulk of my printing needs. I also continued to use it as a black-and-white copier and scanner. But now I have finally given up on this machine and replaced it with a Canon PIXMA MX892. I have contacted Lexmark and invoked my extended (5-year) warranty to try to get this thing repaired at not cost to me, so I can at least keep it as a back-up printer. We'll see what they say to that. This machine has probably cost me more in ink by now than its original purchase price, so my total current cost might be about $500.00 to date! NOT RECOMMENDED!

The scanning feeder takes ages to operate and scans items unevenly so that pages appear skewed. When attempting to email pages from the scanner, it does one page at a time, saying that it is emailing each page separately (it's not, it just acts like it). The ink dries up very quickly and well before it is actually used up. It is nearly impossible to get it to scan custom sizes properly. The touchscreen is very slow and unresponsive. It has two trays, but usually acts like the second one doesn't exist.

I don't understand the outstanding ratings of this printer on Lexmark's site unless they filter the poor ones out. I finally decided to spend a little extra on a printer to solve all the problems I have had with the cheap/free ones. I really liked the features and design of the Pro901 and what finally sold me was the inexpensive ink. Well, it didn't turn out so well. One of the main features that I was interested in was being able to scan to e-mail. THIS FEATURE DOES NOT WORK WITH WEB-BASED E-MAIL. I spent hours with technical support and despite assurances that their printer worked fine with Yahoo mail, they could never get mine to work. Finally they sent me the Pro905 as a replacement. I haven't bothered trying to set up that feature as now I have bigger problems. The consistency of the print is terrible. I have had this printer for almost a year now and have probably printed less than 200 pages with it. Some may point out that you need to use an inkjet more often to get consistent results but this problem started right off the bat. The issues varied from colors that would not print at all to striated print to alignment issues. I've had to replace cartridges even when they are still full to get that color working. So much for the cheap ink. I've run through all of the printer troubleshooting steps. I've also had various wireless connectivity issues. The only reason they got one star was the customer support which was good and they really worked with me to try to get my problems resolved but they can only do so much when the product has so many problems. Definitely won't be buying another Lexmark.

I purchased this printer to use with my small (2 people) architecture firm and it has been nothing but a problem. The first one constantly had print quality problems and they replaced the printerhead a couple of times, then sent me a "new" refurbished replacement printer. This replacement was so old the plastic was brittle and I had it a short time when I opened the top (normally, not hard) and the hinges just fell apart. They sent me another refurbished replacement and this time I had it less than a month and the printhead just started banging itself against the side and couldn't print anything. They then promised to send me brand new everything, printer, print head, power cord, but after a delay in the shipping I finally received another refurbished unit that had obvious wear and tear and no new power cord or print head. We are in process now of completing a refund for me. The company has been pretty good to deal with, no fighting to replace or refund, but there are long hold times whenever I call and sometimes its very difficult to understand their accented operators. I've lost so many hours dealing with this defective printer model that it is ridiculous. I have no intention of ever purchasing another Lexmark printer for my business.
