Pleasantly surprised. Intriguing design with quality. Clarity, balance, power, enough bass too!Don't expect the frequency hierarchy of a 4-way speaker system :) Sheer enjoyment!

Speaker system works great and is simple to install. I bought this system because my old Creature I system finally burned out, so it was time to upgrade, and I didn't want to change. This Creature III has fit the bill, with an upgrade as a bonus!

I had had one of those but the speakers burnt out. I wanted to replace just the speakers but could not find them for sale. So I ordered this set and when it came I was amazed to find out the wires were not compatible with my I-mac!!! I returned the stupid thing. The alternative would have been to spend a gallon of gas to go to radio-shack to spend $20 or more on sets of wires for a $60 outfit. Not likely.

I love JBL Creature speakers, I have the older set for my Mac. One speaker has gone out on those so I ordered brand new speakers. Unfortunately, these did not work with my iMac. I was very disappointed. I am sure these would work better on other computers.

Sounds is great for both music and watching TV shows, movies. The only issue I have is the volume indicator. There is no indicator for the bass, treble, and volume. You have to set it by your ear, and use the computer to control the volume. I have everything set reasonably high, and it works great. It is a minor flaw. Still for it's price and size. It's a great package for what you get.

Visiting a friend and have had her JBL Creature III System connected to my PC for about a week (listening to "Dance 2 Trance Radio" on Pandora). The Satellites are quite light and have a neat bright white LED shining down from their bottoms. They, along with the Subwoofer, are quite attractive and "futuristic" looking. The sound is a HUGE improvement over my built-in PC speakers but, although they have convinced me it's now time for me to buy speakers for my PC, the JBL's approach sounding somewhat "tinny".Consumersearch.com has a pretty good review article on Computer Speakers [..]. Right now I'm trying to decide between their "Best Value 2.1 PC Speakers" Harman Kardon Soundsticks III (which look great but are $117) and their "Best PC Speakers under $100" Logitech Speaker System Z523 with Subwoofer (which are more mundane looking but go for $81).On Amazon the reviews for these 2 seem to indicate a step-up in sound for both versus the JBL Creature III's.

My wife bought the JBL Creature III for me as a Christmas present (2010). The speakers arrived in good condition. Once set up, which was easy and straight forward, the unit seemed to work well. However, when I attempted to turn my MP3 player on the next day, the Creature III did not work. I checked to make sure the problem was not the MP3 player, which it was not. I disconnected all of the cables from the Creature III and MP3 player, inspected them for possible damage and found none. I then reconnected all of the cables and then the MP3 player and once again the Creature III did not work. I went through this process three more times with the same results.Quite obviously the Chinese company that manufactures the Creature and it components for JBL (Harman Kardon) know little or seem to care little about quality control. Given my personal experiences I can not think of a single item made in China that does not have defects or various issues. I went through several MP3 players before I found one that works properly, and for more than just a few days. This problem seems to be the result of US companies seeking to maximise their profits by cutting as many corners as possible. The result is that this country is flooded with cheap Chinese junk and planned obsolence. This problem could be resolved if US companies forced their Chinese manufactures to improve their quality control measures, however with short-term profits all that these companies seem to care about there is likely to be little change in the near future. If you purchase this product be cognizant of the fact that there seems to be minimal quality controls measures in place. To those of you whose Creature III's actually work, keep your fingers crossed and hope that your Creature III is one with good quality components and workmanship. The Creature III was all that I wanted for Christmas this year and I wound up totally disappointed in the product. So disappointed that I will NEVER again purchase a JBL product. Boycotting a company and it products seem to be the only action that these companies are capable of understanding. The only bright spot in this unpleasant affair is Amazon and it's return policy, for which it should be applauded. Thank you Amazon.JWA

Do not bother unless you don't mind having to adjust the wires every time you listen to music. When they are connected they sound fine--it is the constant loss of connection and troubleshooting that makes this a poorly designed product that I would not recommend.

I have 2 sets of these, 1 at work, 1 at home. I asked for the second set as a gift for work. The one set I got for the office were DOA.The set I had at home for about 6 months used sparingly. I moved my computer set up to another room, plugged them back in and dead, no sound.By comparison, I have had a pair of Yamaha computer speakers purchased in 1998. They moved with me across the country and also to many different apartments over the last 12 years and never EVER caused any issues whatsoever.I swear if you sneezed too close to these JBLs they'll stop working. If you don't believe me, search google for 'jbl creature III stop working' and see how many returns there are.DO NOT BUY. Definitely not worth the money.I have only ever reviewed one other thing on amazon. That's how bad of a build quality these are.

For $62 you can't go wrong. These are some very stylish speakers, in comparison the the typical boring speaker design, and sound as good as you'd expect, given their tiny size. I do wish the sub had a deeper output, but overall, everything sounds great - and yes, you can get these guys pretty loud without getting any distortion - I have not heard any distortion yet.As far as features go...Pros:Excellent sound, considering the size of the speakers - almost seems like they're really a bit biggerYou have easy access to the Bass and Treble on the front of the subwooferVery minimal touch sensitive up/down volume controls on one of the speakers (This speaker goes on the RIGHT)Unique cable inputs - no mixing up inputs, since they are all distinctively differentEasy setup - you shouldn't need the manual to get this system set up - takes about a minuteVery lightweight - while the speakers weigh virtually nothing, the sub takes about 90% of the overall weight. For the most part, the finish on black is smudge resistant, but you can see fingerprints in the right light.Cons:Tedious packaging - yes, it's a 1 time thing, but it could have been made much simpler to get it unpackaged.Sub-woofer could perform much better - it's more of a kick and not so much bassSpeaker wiring is on the shorter side, at about 5 or 6 feet. Power cable to the sub is about the same length. The chrome plastic used on the speakers and the sub-woofer looks kinda tacky, as it looks very cheaply made.No clear indicator of which speaker is left, and which is right - no L or R labels on the speakers.Power button is on the back of the sub-woofer. Depending on your setup, this may or may not effect you.Overall - In the line of 2.1 systems, these are a great buy for the current price (at $62.50 + Free Shipping). For the original MSRP of $100 I believe you could probably do better, though I have no other recommendations at this time.

I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I do enjoy good sound from quality speakers. I purchased the JBL Creature III right here off of Amazon strictly based on appearance and having a good experience with JBL speakers in the past. I needed a power boost from the low-level integrated speakers on my iMac. I have to admit, I was really disappointed once I received them. I knew that once I held the box (expecting to be heavy when in reality it was around 3lbs.) wasn't a good sign. They look AWESOME, have cool touch-panel controls and are easy to setup. Alas, I plugged them in and was really disappointed. The grossly underpowered subwoofer sounds terrible at any level above 50%, and the main speakers started distorting really bad once I turned them up past normal listening volumes. Surely not what I expected for my money, especially compared to the AMAZING (and inexpensive) Logitech 2.1 system I owned previously. To say the least, this will be the last pair of speakers made by JBL that I'll purchase. Trust me when I say if you are anything less than a casual listener, buy Logitech... you'll thank me later. Just my opinion, sorry it couldn't be more positive!

I purchased these speakers a year-and-a-half ago and was initially very pleased with them. They sounded great and looked nice and didn't take up too much space. My only initial complaint was that the "innovative touch controls for the volume" were slightly awkward to use.None of that much matters, however, when after this year-and-a-half the left channel quits working due to a faulty connection in the main unit -- the kind that if you wriggle the cable the sound scratches in and out, or if you smack it on its cute little dome. I attempted to contact JBL's "customer service," but was told in barely comprehensible English that they would do nothing, as the unit was out of warranty.Though I considered the speakers very affordable for the sound when I bought them, having to buy a new set every year rather negates any savings. And I really thought that smacking equipment in a desperate attempt to get it to work was a relic of the mechanical age. These speakers may sound fine but they're made with shoddy parts and cheap labor and are not at all designed to last. I do not recommend them at all.

My brother left for college and I got to have these. I used the subwoofer and 2 speakers for a while, but then I found 2 Klipsch iGroove SXTs, so I plugged those into my sub and used that. It was great. The sound was amazing. The subwoofer was fantastic. My parents would often text me from in their room and tell me to turn it down because the walls were shaking. But later, I ran into a major problem with the subwoofer. One day it started making this really ugly and unbearable noise. It sounded like something was rattling inside the sub every time the bass hit. It was terrible. So I have totally stopped using the sound system all together, and I just use my iGroove's. But until this problem, this was a great sound system. What an amazing subwoofer considering it's tiny size. (note: I listen to loud and hard dubstep and bass boosted songs. I listen to skrillex and flux pavilion mainly.) I would recommend this product, but get a warranty.

I owned a pair of the JBL speakers, don' remember the model, but they were white and had a giant subwoofer. I purchased these speakers since my last pair was simply awesome for a bedroom. My wife and I got a steal on a Toshiba laptop and needed speakers so I saw the Creature 3's for under $70 and splurged. When I received them I was a bit disappointed due the the weight and size. In fact I couldn't get the quality of sound I am accustomed to from either other JBL PC speakers. Long story short my wife "accidently" turned the controls and got the system all out of whack. I decided to use the SPL meter to adjust the subwoofer and the tweeters. What I ended up with was some of the cleanest sound I've heard from any pc speaker at any store. Bass is tight (i.e. you can tell the differnce between the kick bass and the bass guitar). Midrange is not overwhelming like some speakers and the trelble is very smooth. To say we are pleased with this purchase may be a bit of an understatement. Give them a listen for yourself. We listen to contempary christian music. Everything from dcTalk to petra to Mylon Lefevre & Broken Heart to acoustic masters like Steven Curtis Chapman and it all sounds great for our home office.

These smooth, rounded, black speakers with simple controls and set-up are a big improvement over the JBL Duets that I've used for at least five years. It has taken that long for me to replace the Duets because I've had serious doubts about the ability of a computer and desk speaker system to reproduce high fidelity stereo sound. I'm no stereo snob, presently I listen to music through Denon equipment and Bose dual cube speakers/non-powered sub augmented with a Klipsch powered Sub; and have owned variously over the years, Yamaha studio monitors (great sound reproduction), high end Klipsch speakers (horns and all, hated them) and one of the first Sub woofer/satellite systems from M&K (don't live up to the hype) through Nakamichi, Technics and Denon equipment. In other words, I like quality, middle of the road stuff. This is why I was so fond of the Duets from JBL which gave far better value than their cost. Over the years I would visit the various retail outlets to listen to look at and sometimes listen to the various computer speaker systems offered hoping that someday I'd be able to purchase a set that accurately reproduce the sound being streamed from my computer (usually NME radio, sometimes Pandora, rarely Limbik Frequencies).I can't listen to music CDs on computer because, well, because it is a computer and not a stereo, and thought it would be nice to be able to do so.Time and again I left the store feeling that the technology is just not there.I also searched the internet for sound reviews of the various systems and found that the mostly glowing reviews were wildly at odds with my actual experience of listening to them live. A couple of times I came close to pulling the trigger on the Audioengine A2's but listening to them live always made me think that I was listening to music on the computer and if I wanted a sound like that I'd buy some Altec Lansing speakers that sound far more appealing at about a third of their price.Still, when I saw these speakers offered for about 25% less than the MSRP I figured that, for a century note, I couldn't go far wrong and decided to acquire them for the following reasons:1) I have been well pleased by my JBL Duets; 2) The Creature III, should by its third generation be close to perfection; 3) At about half the price of A2s they have about twice the aesthetic appeal of the former; 4) I was ready for a change.Plus, I held out hope I'd be buying speakers every bit as great sounding as the earlier review makes them sound.Well, the speakers arrived last week and I'm sorry to say that when I play them I still feel as though I am listening to music through a computer, which I am, after all.Are these a vast improvement over my JBL Duets? Yes/No. Large but not vast. Would I have been more satisfied with the audioengines at about twice the cost? Definitely not! Am I pleased with the purchase in the aggregate? Yes, but I'm still waiting for the product that makes my computer sound like a stereo (Is this possible through a single headphone jack outlet?).These easy to set up, smoothly shaped, black colored speakers will do until then, I think.

A friend and myself bought these speakers 5 years ago when we started college and they have survived and gotten through all of it in great condition. As far as I know he still has and loves his as well. The speakers look small but they pack a good punch. They have a very good clear sound, and the sub-woofer helps the bass out.The right speaker has convenient touch sensitive volume buttons that make a small noise when you touch them to let you know you adjusted them. The underside of the two speakers has a small green light can be annoying at night, but the sub (also where everything wires into) has a nice on/off button. The sub also has a treble and bass adjustment knobs. My only complaint is that my bass knob does not move as smoothly as the treble knob. The knob still functions, but does not move as smoothly making adjustments take a little longer, as it is hard to tell how far you have gone form where you started. Also, the sub-woofer faces straight into the ground. This is a double edged sword, the sound reverberates through the room great, but can much easily annoying the people below you (if you have people below you).Over all, a great product that was durable and did not seem to get worse with time. I highly recommend these for computer or music use, a fantastic product at a great price.

I loved them at first, for the price, they fit my needs and the sound was really good. But then, around 6 months after buying them, the left speaker all of a sudden started to short out, and the volume buttons wouldn't work on that speaker as well. Now, the left speaker doesn't play any sound at all!I am just disappointed that they didn't even last me close to a year! The speakers were setup in a room and haven't been moved or bothered or anything. I could understand if they were moved around a lot because wires sometimes short out when they are moved around but seriously, I wouldn't spend my money on these. I'm going to find a better set and hope that you do too!

I used to be a believer in more and bigger is better when it came to speakers. So I'd be the guy with the massive 3000W PMPO Sony speakers, 5 of them, so I could convince myself I had the groove. All that's changed. I just got these Creature III's today and I can tell you one thing - whatever expectations you come to the table with these babies are gonna Blow. You. Away!! Completely. The sound reproduction is so accurate and on point there is no vibration no matter how loud you go, and the bass is a constant undertone to the mids and trebles the way it was designed to be (by whoever created music?)Couple of things - these guys here call the "self-powered", I don't know what that means but I'd taken it to mean they don't require auxilliary power. If you're like me, get an extra socket, coz they do. But they'll come with their own power adapter in the box. Also, the volume buttons on one of the satellite speakers aren't really buttons, they're some sort of touch control. So if you're those paranoid people who don't unwrap electronics from the polythene they come in "to keep away the dust..." you're gonna wanna do that at least for the satellite speaker with the volume.I also have an 800W RMS Samsung home theater system that I've had for a while so it's not necessarily the latest technology, and while I notice no one quotes RMS watts for these speakers I can confidently say that without counting the surround aspect of five speakers all over the room, these Creatures easily give the home theater a run for its money. In a nutshell, if you're not a cheapskate go buy them. I didn't get mine from Amazon - got the from a shop in SA so I paid a bit of a premium, but DUDE! Worth every cent.Oh, and one other thing, Harman Kardon Soundsticks III got nothing on the Creatures. They look cool. But when it comes to what speakers were made to do - reproduce music - Creatures are the hands down winner. There's even no discussion. And the Harman Kardon's are like double the price. Imagine that. And don't even get me started on that nonsense that comes out of Creative. These speakers are a good deal. A really good deal.

My father had these speakers for probably 5 years until he passed them on to me about 3 or 4 years ago. The sound quality is still excellent even for today's standards. They can get so loud that they shake windows. The subwoofer is my favorite part of the speakers though. I have it sitting under my desk on the right hand corner so I can easily reach my foot out and change the bass settings when I go between music and movies. Great, long lasting speakers. I only had one issue with them, the subwoofer is beginning to buzz after I turn my computer off, and since they are in the same room where I sleep, I just have to turn the power off. But do remember these speakers are probably 8 or 9 years old.

They have a loud, rich sound that can be adjusted by touching your finger to a "plus" sign on the subwoofer (pretty cool)- no buttons. It can be plugged into a computer, ipod, or tv easily. We use it for all of the above uses- the cord that comes with is long enough (about 10') so you don't have to move the speakers too much. They are stylish and don't take up too much room. We are really enjoying them so far.Only possible downsides are that there are no remote and a fair amount of wires, if that bothers you. We are fine with it though.

I bought these in 2006. They looked very cool. However, they only lasted a few years. The volume they were able to produce became less and less until they were unusable, and I had to add them to my 'electronic junk- to recycle' pile. Also, even when they did work, they drew like 20W of standby power even when they were off, which is incredibly wasteful. Long on style, short on substance. I would have expected better from JBL.
