Purchased these speakers the other day, and despite the great reviews, they still surpassed expectations.I had read somewhere that it takes some play time before the satellites really "hit the pocket," and this appears to be true. At first they were treble-heavy, but after letting them run for a few hours and returning, I was pleased to find that the mid-range had filled out pretty well - I doubt the middle will ever sound very "fat," but it sounds nice and balanced to my ears - and the highs weren't shrill at all.The speakers can get quite loud, enough so to become painful at full blast if you're sitting in front of them, and so far I've notice no distortion to speak of.Imho, the real selling point of the creatures is their detail; try out some cd-quality audio on them and you'll be impressed. The sound spacing is very good, and I don't find myself missing surround sound all that much. The handsomeness of the system is just icing on the cake, as are the little conveniences like long chords to the satellites.No real complaints at this point, I think these speakers would be a great purchase at double the price. At $60, they're a steal.

The Creature II system IS a hi-fi speaker system. I have these babies connected to my iPod and my computer. The music coming out sounds fantastic. The dynamic range is superb, the visualization is rich, and the fidelity is a lot better than the cheap price suggests.The trick, of course, is that the base response is reduced to the audible range by a cutoff filter. Consequently, the bass response is supremely sharp and accurate. You will NOT feel it, but you WILL hear it. This is the Harman/Kardon influence on JBL.The volume is adequate. You can turn your room into either a disco or the ultimate gaming dom.Great, crisp, loud sounds from stylish, affordable computer speakers. You can't lose.

Dollar for dollar, you will not find a better set of desktop speakers. Period. Yes, you could pay a lot more money for something that would only be just a little bit better. Buy now with confidence. You won't be dissapointed.

I purchased the JBL Creature to hook up to my new iMac and let me tell you, the sound impresses the hell out of me. This is a perfect set-up for listening to music while you are on the computer. I listened to them at the Apple store when I bought the mac and liked the sound, and ordered them from Amazon as soon as I got home because Amazon's price was 1/2 of what Apple was charging. Great Deal, Great Sound, they don't take up a lot of desk space - you can't go wrong.

I picked up these speakers to use with an iBook, and found I use them just as much for my iPod. The look and feel of the speakers is excellent. The white matches the iBook exactly. The sound can be a little flimsy and thin, though they can get loud. I find the best tone quality by maximizing both bass and treble knobs on the subwoofer. The sub is not just for bass; without its treble turned up mids are missing altogether. Overall - good product for the price.

I had the BOSE speakers for a week and tried everything with them in terms of placement and equalizer adjustments, but they consistently had this annoying boomy, unnatural midrange sound that I noticed right off the bat. Finally I took them back and got these very cool looking JBL's, and I was impressed right away with the clarity and full range sound they had. Playing both Death Cab For Cutie and Bill Frisell, the sound was stellar. I think I'll be keeping these! (However, my BOSE cd player in the living room has been awesome for over three years now, to be fair.)

The quality of sound for the price is beautiful. This is an amazing piece of audio equipment at a great price. The treble is crisp and clear and the base is bold. These work like a dream with iPods, laptops etc.

While I don't consider myself unusually stupid, I returned my first set of these speakers because I thought they were defective, as I couldn't get the LEDs to illuminate on the satellite speakers. The cord felt to be firmly attached, but nothing happened and they made no sound. It was only when I called tech support, after having the same problem on the second set of speakers, that I learned each satellite speaker has a subtle shape on the plastic casing just past the metal plug-a triangle on one and a rectangle on the other. Only when you align these with the subwoofer's matching holes do you get a connection. It would help if that was mentioned in the manual, but it is not. In any case, once the connection was made, I was quite pleased with the sound quality, and even the little green lights were purty.

I bought the JBL Creature II and I doubted whether they were going to be great sound-producing speakers. But I bought them anyway because they looked good. When I got the package, the first thing I saw was the subwoofer. It really grabbed my attention. Each time visitors come over they notice the subwoofer and start talking about it. The next things I saw were the tiny speakers. They looked cute, but small, and they didn't seem like they were going to give me the sound that I wanted. So I tested them out with some music, and it definitely proved me wrong. I maxed the bass and it's powerful enough to shake the floor. I also love the volume controls. They're like touch sensors - you just gently put your finger on it and it either increases or decreses the volume. The bass and treble knobs are conveniently placed so that I could set them according to my music taste. However, one con is that after maxing the volume on my laptop and on the speakers, I don't feel like it's loud enough to have some party music.

The quality of sound is great and a good balance of bass and treble. I like the product very much and highly recommend to anyone. The design is elegant and beautiful. Although i feel great about everything with these speakers but connecting to speakers slot is tedious and I have to tried many times to succeed. The quality of sound doesn't deteriorate even for highest volume. My 2 friends have already purchased after seeing my speakers. Thanks to amazon and JBL Pro.

These are fantastic speakers. I use them with my iBook and iPod to play music in my dorm room. One of my main interests was size and style-- I wanted speakers that wouldn't take up my whole desk and that would look good with my beautiful white Apple products. These fit the bill. The subwoofer sits on the floor beside my desk, and the two satellites are on either side of my laptop on my desk. The system sounds great!I was trying to decide between these and the Harman Kardon Soundsticks, but chose these because they're so much smaller, and cost less. My next door neighbor has the Soundsticks, and I honestly don't notice that much of a difference in the sound between the two.Once you get your equalizer levels right, you'd never know that all that sound is coming from such small speakers. The subwoofer sounds tight, there's plenty of midrange, and the highs are crisp and clear. Plus, they look SO COOL!I really can't believe that I got speakers this great for such a low price!!

I just can't deal with the sound quality. Plenty of bass, plenty of treble, but there's just not enough midrange. Turning the bass up doesn't help. It doesn't sound full, and it gives me a headache.On the bright side, this is a very cool looking speaker system. The volume buttons are cool, but I would prefer a knob that I can turn up and down quickly rather than pressing buttons repeatedly. The speakers are nice and small, which is why I bought it, since I have weird constraints on the size of the speakers that can fit on my desk, and all the other systems I looked at have speakers that are too tall. But I'll have to keep looking, since there's no point in buying speakers that don't sound acceptable.

This setup is for my Imac and they sound as good as they look.I have not been disappointed in them and would recommend them in a heart beat! They are great shelf speakers, or desk speakers, but they aren't going to replace your home theater system.good bass response for the size and they are crystal clear!!

I just bought these speakers for my iMac. First off, they match perfectly to apple products. They look phenomenal with my computer and my iPod, and everyone that sees them thinks they are cool looking.Now for the important part: sound. Right out of the box, I was disappointed with the sound. Wayyy too much treble, solid bass, but like many other reviewers have said, not a lot of middle range. However, after playing with the equalizer in iTunes, I got these to sound exactly how I like. Everyone has a different taste for sound, and personally by turning down the treble knob on the sub and instead playing with the treble on the equalizer, it created a more full sound. When they are plugged into my iPod, they are a little bass heavy, but when I'm listening to my iPod with these it's usually in a large group setting, where it doesnt really matter if they sound perfect.Overall, if you are looking for a set of speakers for your computer for a good price, and know a little bit about how to fool with an equalizer in your main audio program, then definatley go for these. However, if you are focusing mainly on listening to an iPod with these, I'd recommend looking into different speakrs (JBL makes a cool speaker system with a dock that suits the iPod much better)

I purchased these speakers to replace my old cambridge soundworks 5.1 system that was giving me trouble. I read serveral reviews and found great recommendations at iLounge, so I took the plunge and have been very happy. The sound from these speakers is clear and not muddy like other speakers I have heard. I use them for gaming and music. I highly recommend these for the xbox 360 as well.

Well, you know that saying that you get what you pay for? Don't expect miracles with these speakers - they're under $100, which means that they will not sound as full as many other brands. As an audiophile, I admit that this bothers me somewhat, especially since the middle ranges are lacking, and the bass can easily be overwhelming.But on that note, it is under $100, and for that price, these are a great deal. They sound quite decent, are easy to set up (you just plug it into your laptop/iPod. No drivers needed. Nothing fancy) and are aesthetically pleasing with my iBook and iPod.I keep my iPod 40GB on its dock, and then I plug in the green speaker cord to the little jack on the back of the dock. When I want to listen from my laptop, I easily take that same green cord out of the dock jack, and stick it into my iBook headphone jack. Easy as pie, and since the cord is long, there is a lot of flexibility.Looks wise, it matches very well with my Apple gear, plus the two small speakers have an other-wordly green light that emanates from the bottom. I hate to sound shallow and stupid, but stuff like that amuses me to no end!FInal verdict: if you live in a small apartment or have a small room or a small bank account, these are the speakers for you.

I bought these speakers for my 15-year-old son because he wanted some external speakers for his eMac. I have always loved JBL speakers, and these were too neat to pass up...especially at the bargain price. The design of the speakers is very futuristic and cool (or, as my son would say...SWEET!). The color and design compliment the eMac perfectly. Each of the satellite speakers has a green LED on the bottom of it that lights up when they're on...very cool in a darkened room. Best of all, the sound of these speakers is fabulous. They may not be the world's loudest speakers. But the sound is beautiful, whether you're listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Thelonious Monk (which my kid actually does). The subwoofer has easy access bass and treble controls right on the front of it, and the footprint isn't very big (which is great, because this is one subwoofer you won't want to hide on the floor...you'll want it right on your desktop). The right satellite has cool touch sensitive volume controls. And the construction is top-notch. I recently saw these speakers "on sale" in the Marshall Field's weekly flier for $99.99. I took great pleasure in knowing that I only paid $66.49 at Amazon and got them shipped to me for free. You can't beat that deal with a stick! Oh...one more cool thing. My son also has an iPod and these speakers can be hooked up to an iPod (or any external music playing device with a headphone jack) simply by plugging them into the headphone jack. So, not only are these cool computer speakers...but if you have an iPod or portable CD player and don't want to splurge on a stereo for a bedroom, you can just buy these, plug in your music source, and...Voila! Instant stereo system!! I highly recommend these speakers. I'm pretty fussy when it comes to sound equipment, and these pass my test with flying colors.

I would recommend this product to anyone that enjoys good sound. If you are looking to rock a party is isn't loud enough. But for the money it can't be beat. The bose has nothing over this.

Great looks, great sound, the only bummer is that they put the on/off button on the bottom in the back of the unit in the most inacessable spot possible. You have to lift the main unit each time you want to shut it off. I can't believe something so beutifully designed has this major flaw. I guess they feel the unit can be left on 24/7...the instructions say to shut it of when not being used for extended periods. What's that mean...overnight? Other than the weird on/ off the sound and design of the unit is great.I guess that's what counts. Too bad it wasn't perfect...it could have been with the re-location of a simple button.

These are really cool and sounds pretty good for PC speakers. Just dont expect them to replace your sound system. The price is right.I also looked at Harman Kardon Soundsticks 2, they seemed like better sounding but for me, they are too big in size.

The previous reviewer must have received a defective set of these Creature Speakers. My entire family was overwhelmed by the full, rich sound and quality for such a little price. Plug these into your IPod and you will pass up those "made for IPod" systems. No distortion, great bass, adjustable sub-woofer and overall amazing sound. A very good buy.

First off, I guess I should say where I'm coming from. I mix music albums so I spend many hours a day doing critical listening on expensive speaker systems. My ear seeks out errors in sound...it's just what I do. I did not expect sound that rivals may main system out of these speakers. That would not be realistic at this price. All I wanted was something listenable that I could play in my bedroom as I go to sleep. Unfortunaly, these speakers don't fit the bill.I can imagine that even an untrained ear may be let down by the sound these speakers make. The problem is that the satalites don't go low enough. The result is a somewhat-full low sound with a tinfoil thin high buzzy sound on top. Yes, the low end might be described as "smooth", but the giant hole in the mid range can't be ignored.The nail in the coffin for these speakers is that the freebie speakers that came with my PC outperformed the Creature IIs. Yes, the Creature IIs went lower than my freebie speakers, but what good is a fat low end when the middle is totally gone? That's like having icing without the cake.On the plus side these speakers certainly look nice. Really, really nice. They are also dead-simple to set up and get running. That's all I can say for the plusses.Oh well.

I am not that type that is particularly sensitive to the very fine detail of the sound quality. I am looking for an overall package. This speaker is good value with trendy look and good sound quality. The only draw back is that it has only two satelltie speakers. But depends who you ask, some say less wiring rat nest is a good thing.

At first, I had trouble getting the speakers to work. The tweeters have an unusual way of fitting into the subwoofer. But when I figured it out, the sound was amazing. These speakers are a lot of bang for the buck. Simply put, they sound great.

These speakers are a perfect accessory for my laptop and my Ipod, they are compact, fun-looking, and loud enough for my dorm's RA to stop by to tell us to turn the music down because he could hear it all the way down the hall. They are easy to move from room to room and are extremely simple to set up. Also, the volume control is a pretty aesthetically pleasing feature. The bass really reverberates and is very impressive for such a small speaker set. I highly reccomend them.

The Creatures are not the best sounding 2.1 speakers on the market, but they are the best looking. The lows are nice and powerful, with the bass sounding just right for most types of music, especially hip-hop, electronica, and the like. The speakers are also very good for films and video games, they sound robust and reproduce sound very accurately. The mid highs and highs are very sensitive and can become overwhelming but that can be overcome by slightly turning the treble down. There is a slight draw back and that is the Bass and Treble knobs on the woofer are not as incremental as they should be.The Creature's real strength though is not in it's sound, there are some 2.1 systems that just sound better, but at their current price I see no real rival that sounds leaps and bounds better. The Creatures real strength is in their looks, these speakers are bar none the coolest looking you can get at any price, even better than the HK Soundsticks IMO. There are many cynics out there that believe that looks should be discounted when purchasing something with a single purpose like speakers, but that is simply not the case for most people. For people who love well designed things these little creatures are a god send. They perfectly complement the G4 and G5 Apple iMac and all Apple iPods.At this price these speakers are a must have for any person who needs simple speakers and has discerning aesthetic tastes.

I own a recording studio and have been a musician for over 30 years. I bought these speakers because I got tired of trying to crank the little clear speakers that came with my Imac and having them distort. All I thought I was doing was getting a little upgrade because at the price I just couldn't imagine them being too great. BOY WAS I WRONG! These little monsters (er...creatures) scream! I could not be happier with the price or performance of these things. Plus it never hurts to have people ask, "What are those things?" OH, Let me show you!!! Then to see the tongues hit the floor is just a little bonus fun.

Two words sum up these speakers for me: instant disappointment. I suppose I shouldn't have expected so much. I guess I'm just too cheap to pony up two bills for computer speakers. So, let me evaluate them based on price and value, rather than sound quality alone (for that is awfully subjective).They still suck. At any price point, these speakers are a disappointment. The treble is too shril and tinny sounding (like an early 80's telecaster); the midrange is non-existent; the bass is underwhelming and flabby. Not only that, the gray plastic really looks cheap. (A little more silvery or metallic like the new Apple LCD monitors would be better.)This is too bad because designwise - they're pretty cool. They don't take up too much deskspace, they're kinda futuristic, and the touch volume works well. It appears these speakers are being sold on JBL's reputation alone. Too bad.As a guitar player I admit I may have particular tastes in sound (eg: I like speakers with alnico magnets better than ceramic) - but there are certain aspects to sound that do speak to quality rather than just taste. There is no way that these speakers can be called worthwhile - at any price. Feel free to disagree, but be forewarned. I'm not trying to slam the product. I wish I didn't have to return them (but I am). I'm just trying to help. I'd like to think after twenty years of guitar playing that I know a thing or two about sound.To sum up, the sound just isn't THERE. Ah well, the tone quest goes on.

I was a bit skeptical when I first bought the JBL Creature II, but after having heard how it handled my iPod, I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality sound system at a good price. While it is a bit awkward looking, the dynamic output range makes it easy to overlook its appearance. Set up was very simple, though I do wish they had longer cables. If you are looking for portability in a system, however, I would recommend you find another set of speakers. All in all, this is a great speaker system, and I am not sure you'll find more output in this price range.

I bought the Creature speakers to use with my iPod in the office at work. I am very pleased.Sound quality is very, very good. I find the bass very balanced, not overwhelming as some PC users have reported here. Perhaps that is because I am driving them with the iPod. A big plus for office use is they can be turned down quite low and still provide good sound. And they have decent steps between volume levels. Many digital volume controls have large jumps between levels, but these are pretty good in that regard.The design is certainly very cool, and the footprint is okay (less than one sqft) if you have room for the sub (sits nicely behind my monitor). The satellites are tiny and fit under my monitor easily.I did have one problem where the volume control stopped working 15 minutes after installation. That was disconcerting, but was quickly solved by disconnecting and reconnecting the right channel lead, and has not recurred. A knob would be more functionally correct, but this is a design thing and it is cool. The system provides slight clicks to let you know the volume is changing, and you can mute by touching both together.I rated four stars, down from five only because of the volume adjustment losing its brain. Since another reviewer reported the same problem, this appears to be a design flaw. Other than that, these are perfect for use in the office with the iPod!

I think a lot of the trouble people have had with these speakers can be traced back to their sound cards. If you have Bass or Treble set on your sound card, turn it off. These speakers will sound like shrill muddy beasts if you leave them on, and you don't need those settings anymore while using these speakers. The sound is incredible for such a small package, and the speakers look great. The high range is crisp, and the bass is just right. Plus these speakers have a presence that most low-end speakers can't compare with. Sure, they're not professional monitors, and they won't replace your main stereo, but they are great computer speakers. So turn down your Bass and Treble adjustments, and give these speakers a whirl. You won't be disappointed.

In general, these speakers seem to be a good buy. They are beautiful: I realize this is important to some and not to others, but as a design geek myself, I appreciate the way they look on my desk. The bass is great and very clean for this level of speaker, and the treble tones come through crystal clear.I echo others' frustrations with not hearing enough midrange and the treble tones sounding a bit tinny at the outset, but as one other reviewer noted, if you play with the volume settings and the equalizer in your iTunes or other music player, you *can* hit the "sweet spot" and then they sound great. I also had the touch volume control on the satellite go out within the first 15 minutes of use, which was disappointing.I'm not 100% sure I'm going to keep these (just hooked them up today). For $40 more I can get the Logitech Z-2300's which are unequivocally well-reviewed both on Amazon and on cnet, but in my budget-conscious world a $40 savings may be worth it to keep the Creatures. The sound is good, the design is stunning, and I can live without the volume control on the satellite as I prefer to adjust the volume on my computer anyway.

These speakers are a great value. Like other buyers, I thought these speakers lacked some mid-range, but a few tweaks of my itunes equalizer fixed that. They sound great now. And when I plug them into my ipod shuffle, they sound even better (for some reason). I didn't care for the futuristic shape at first, but they've really grown on me. I think they really make my office look that much more interesting. $65 bucks - can't beat it.....

The speakers sound very good especially for the price paid, well worth the money. You can plug in any kind of media (cd players and MP3 players) and it sounds good. Two things to complain about: one, the wires don't hide as well in the subwoofer, it doesn't have a very "clean" appearance. Second, the power switch is in a very awkward position, on the side of the subwoofer, it makes very difficult to power on and off. Other than that I like them very much and would buy again if I could.

I liked these speakers. You have to have a little bit of room, well just more than a "little bit". They're pretty small, but put out a lot of power. You can really "fill" a room with the sound that it puts out. One thing I really liked was the long cords, they aren't hard to stach somewhere, but you can make your own little sound surround station.

We use these speakers with our iPod, and did a lot of comparison shopping actually listening to various setups before choosing these - virtually all others were more expensive - including the Bose iPod speakers - and frankly none produced a better sound. In fact, these speakers give a full, rich sound way above their price. Obviously, as a desktop system they are not intended to blow your sox off, but they have caused more than one friend to scratch their head and ask, "Where is all that sound coming from." We love them. And they look cool, too.

I have a more expensive set of speakers (Harmon Kardon Soundstick II) that I now use as a main stereo system with my ipod. As such, I bought the JBL Creature II speakers to sit permanently with my PC to maintain some decent sound quality but with a lower budget. The look may not be to everyone's taste but they look better than the usual basic speaker set up and for many, the ipod friendly colour and styling is the main selling point. For the price, the sound is great and set up a cinch. No negatives - go buy a set.

I bought these to plug into my iPod basestation. I was replacing some old Altec Lansing ACS33 Power Cube computer speakers, which I paid $20 for. For the price I paid, I was expecting to be blown away by the sound of these speakers as compared to the old ones. I was less than impressed. There is no mid range!!! The problem is that the high end comes out of the two satellite speakers, and the mid(what little there is) and low comes from the subwoofer. So what happens is the subwoofer gets overpowered by the two satellite speakers, it gives the sound a nice AM radio quality. This problem gets even worse if you put the subwoofer on the floor and use the two satellite speakers on your desk. I expected to be able to fix the problem by adjusting the knobs, that was of no help at all. Even with the treble turned all the way down and bass turned all the way up, the high end overpowers everything else.Sure these speakers look cool, but that's not why most people buy speakers. I'm not sure what to recommend for you to use, but I would say avoid this.

I couldn't be happier with these little speakers. The range and seperation in the sound is very good for such small speakers. I have played music of virtually every genre and they all sound great. Even spoken word has nice tone. I would recommend these to anyone that wants a small and simple set of speakers for their office or home office computer.

I got the speakers in a timely manner, and so far, I am happywith the quality of the speakers. The sound is very good, thecontrols are easy to use, and They look really cool.

I got these speakers for use in my dorm room. Although the size of my room is quite small, these 3 speakers work great. I have received my compliments on the quality of the sound. They have been just what I needed.
